We get emails every day from listeners who are concerned about a revival of the Fairness Doctrine. Curious to hear how presidents and politicians in history have used the Fairness Doctrine to silence critics? Listen today to Nealz Nuze at 12:35 ET. Maybe you'll learn something.
Yesterday we saw, what could turn out to be, one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in American history. The Feds seized four mosques and a New York skyscraper, all owned by a Muslim nonprofit organization. The organization, the Alabi Foundation, allegedly is controlled by the Iranian government.
Here in Atlanta, residents of one of our bedroom communities are loudly protesting the location of a Mosque in their neighborhood.
In Washington the ACORN Administration is trying to find something to blame the Ft. Hood shootings on other than a radical Muslim hell-bent on killing infidels while shouting praises to his God.
Barack Obama has suddenly decided that the "necessary" war in Afghanistan doesn't really need to be fought ... or so it seems.
Today Muslims in New York and elsewhere will be screaming about profiling and discrimination.
Somewhere in America today a few hundred more people will scrape their Obama bumper stickers off their cars.
Unemployment hit 10.2%. Who knows, maybe it will rise even more. Hopefully for the sake of many Americans, this will be the worst of it. But the Democrats and the Obama administration are starting to get nervous. They worry that the longer you are out of a job, the longer you have to sit there and wonder whether or not your representatives in Washington are really doing what is best for our economy. They know you have a vote. So they want to look like they are doing to something to solve this problem. I know .. we'll have a jobs summit!
That's exactly what Obama plans to do. He is inviting investors, CEOs, small-business owners, academics, nonprofit officials and labor and financial figures to the White House for a jobs summit. The focus of this summit, according to Obama, will be why employers aren't hiring. Duh! Obama notes that businesses are increasing employee hours and adding temporary workers but "have not yet been willing to take the steps necessary to hire again."
Let me give you a little clue as to why this is the case.
First ... taxes. All three of the DC heavy hitters, Obama, Reid and Pelosi, are proposing new taxes on business owners. Oh yeah ... they position these taxes as merely attempts to make the evil, disgusting, filthy, putrid, rancid rich pay "their fair share," but every additional tenth of a percent of income tax you're told is being levied on "high income earners" is, in reality, a tax on business owners --- the very business owners who now employ about 70% of Americans with jobs and who are providing 80% of the new jobs. Now you ObamaBots out there tell me --- since you have all the answers --- why would a business owner who is facing:
- A nearly 5% increase in his income taxes when the Bush tax cuts expire
- Another 5.4% increase in his income taxes with Pelosi's rich bastards surtax
- An increase in his Medicare taxes pursuant to Harry Reid's wishes
- The prospect of paying Social Security taxes on every single penny he earns
- God knows what else
Why oh why would this person stick his neck out right now and try to expand his business and hire new workers? He's in the freaking cross-hairs, for goodness' sake, and you want him to act like everything is hunky dory and get out there and hire people?
Now with taxes out of the way, the government must stop this outrageous spending spree. Spending more money is not going to create jobs. Studying grandparents in Alaska, building puppets in Atlanta and studying tadpoles in Wyoming is not going to grow our economy. We have already seen that with this $787 billion economic stimulus bill. The stimulus package was a private sector jobs killer. Only one state has seen an increase in private sector employment since this idiotic stimulus bill was passed .. and that was North Dakota ... and that's because they hired a new snow plow driver.
Some of you might be okay with the idea that jobs are jobs. You don't care if they are in the government or the private sector .. at least people are working. Well I can assure you that relying on government jobs to turn around our unemployment rate is the wrong way to go. The Cato Institute explains it best:
The reason is private sector jobs tend to be more productive than government jobs, and there is a considerable cost (i.e., dead weight loss) when government extracts monies from the private sector by taxing or borrowing to pay for the government jobs. Therefore, countries with large government sectors, like France and Germany, tend to have much higher unemployment rates than countries with smaller government sectors.
Another problem that is hindering job growth is our weakening dollar. I've explained what is happening with our dollar lately. Our spending and borrowing isn't getting us anywhere in terms of strengthening our currency. Did you know that a drop in the dollar has the same effect as a tax increase on the American consumer? Think about that. The weaker our dollar becomes, the less you can buy for everyone one dollar. This has the same effect as if you were paying more in taxes. The same goes for businesses. The weaker their buying power, the less inclined they are to hire.
So if I, the Talkmaster, were invited to this jobs summit in Washington, here is what I would suggest.
- Do not increase taxes on Americans by letting the Bush tax cuts expire
- Get spending under control. Rather than spend more money trying to create jobs, try and get spending under control and the economy with correct itself
- Pass the FairTax.
- Find something for Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to do that won't be so damaging to our Republic. Give them some old alarm clocks to take apart and re-assemble.
I don't think I have to explain to you why #3 would work wonders for our economy.
It's been a while since we have picked on filthy, smelly, ignorant smokers. Yes, I said it. You know that I have no sympathy for someone who pathetically chooses to this drug day in and day out. Research shows that smokers have lower IQs, which makes me question why any employer would ever higher a smoker. Not only are they not as intelligent but they are sick more often, costing you money and productivity.
Easy, big guy ... easy.
There's a reason I bring this up .. other than to give Cristina and Webguy more hate mail to sort through ... we have some new reports show that for the first time in almost 15 years, the number of smokers is on the rise. A 2008 national survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 21% of Americans smoke cigarettes, which is the first increase in smoking adults since 1994.
Oddly enough, this increase in smoking coincides with the tanking of our economy. So many people out there are without jobs. They are without the luxuries of life they maybe used to enjoy. But by God, smoking is NOT one of those luxuries they cannot live without. I bet that 80% of Americans that smoke support a government takeover of our healthcare system. They clearly are unable to make wise choices on their own, and they would probably prefer the government to do that for them. I bet a majority of these smokers are on food stamps, complaining that they can't properly feed their families. Yet they will still spend hundreds of dollars a week on smokes. This is the American entitlement culture at its best.
You know .. there's probably another reason for the increase in smoking. With a weed fiend president, maybe smoking is cool again.
Well .. on the good side. It does put some interesting people into those smoking-area leper colonies out in back of your office. Go peer at them through a window and thank your lucky stars you're not one of them.
Our friend Mike Huckabee will be a guest today at 10:05 ET. He will be discussing his new book: A Simple Christmas: Twelve Stories That Celebrate the True Holiday Spirit.
Texas Governor Rick Perry has a lot of liberal thongs in a wad. During a recent speech in Midland, Texas he said, "This is an administration hell-bent on taking America towards a socialist country."
You got dat right, Guv'nor.
Now notice .. before you get all bent out of shape .. Rick Perry did not call Barack Obama a socialist. He won't, but I will. However, I would have to agree that Obama's policies lend themselves towards a socialist agenda. The idea of, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" is definitely evident in the Obama agenda. Obama's stimulus plan, healthcare reform, cap-and-trade .. all of these share the notion that government can spend its way to dependency and can count on the achievers to fund it.
Nancy Pelosi says that we will get government healthcare as a Christmas present. Can I just have my lump of coal instead? At least coal will keep me warm.
Just to remind you how we got into this mess ... here's a bit on ACORN and our housing bubble.
Yet another record breaking fiscal month for our government with an October budget deficit of $176 billion.
The Obama administration wants to use TARP funds to cut the deficit.
I've been telling you this for a while but George Will says it better. Our level of spending and our debt level are killing the dollar.
The Obama administration has issued the order to weed out any Bush political appointees.
Ooops. Here's a blast from the past. Obama on the campaign trail deriding Hillary Clinton for her idea of an individual health insurance mandate.
Did you realize that the House healthcare bill includes a 69% increase in capital gains taxes? Here's how.
Could the Democrats manage to implement a Fairness Doctrine 2.0?
Now we are learning that officials ordered that documents be shredded in the case of the firing of Inspector General Gerald Walpin.
Major Nidal Hasan proclaimed himself a "soldier of Allah" on private business cards. What a complete failure on the part of our intelligence community .. all because of political correctness.
There are ten states in this country that are on the verge of economic disaster. If I'm not mistaken, nine out of the ten states were Obama states.
This should scare you ... No education secretary has ever had so much money for government school improvement with so few conditions from Congress.
The winner in the war on terrorism is ... China?
A caller had her thong in a wad over this story yesterday: Chuck Norris says that Obama Wants 'To Create a One World Order' at Copenhagen Climate Talks.
This is rich ... ACORN has filed a lawsuit against the federal government, trying to restore its federal funds.
More and more scientists are coming forward to prove that CO2 is not responsible for global warming.
Churches around the world are being asked to ring their bells 350 times during the Copenhagen climate change summit as a call to action on global warming.
A DRT story from Flint, Michigan. I love it! Keep 'em coming.
