November 9, 2009 Archives Our last Lawrence Welk post was kind of funny. This one is just flat out awesome.

This bit is hard to start ... because there are so many things to say and so many people to thank. I'll keep it mercifully brief.
We all stayed at the Renaissance Hotel, the site of Saturday evening's ceremony ... right there on the Chicago River. What an incredible view. Spent much of Saturday walking up and down Michigan Avenue. My favorite store was the Garmin store .. but then I'm a tech freak. The lobby of the Tribune building is quite impressive. There are quotations there from various people about the need for a free press. Those words mean a lot right now after an election where the "free" press was clearly in the bag for one particular candidate. Then there's the gift store in the Tribune building. You guessed it ... Obama stuff everywhere.
Then there was the Hall of Fame dinner and ceremony Saturday night. I was just too nervous to eat ... which was probably a good thing. First up was Rush Limbaugh to deliver my induction speech.
Check out pictures of Boortz at the Hall of Fame here
Let me say something about Rush: Several years ago Rush told me that if I was ever inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame he would like to deliver my induction speech. When this year's inductees were announced I sent Rush an email asking if the offer was still open, but telling him I would certainly understand if there was a scheduling difficulty and he couldn't make it. Well ... there was a scheduling difficulty. This past weekend was Rush's annual golf outing with friends. They spend about three days playing golf and a few evenings with dinner and cigars. When Rush got my message he told his golf buddies that they were going to have to eat dinner without him Saturday night ... that he was flying to Chicago to deliver my induction speech. Turns out his pals listened to the show, and wanted to come too! So after Saturday's golf Limbaugh, George Brett, Gary McCord, Vince Flynn and a few more fly to Chicago. (I asked Flynn to have Mitch Rap off an Islamic terrorist in my name). Rush told the crowd about the time I helped him earn a 45 minute suspension on Chicago's WLS. At my urging, Rush told his national audience about the number of accidents caused by women farding in their cars. After the induction, Rush and the golf posse headed back to Midway and flew right back down to West Palm for Sunday's round of golf.
A special shout out to Dennis Miller and Willard Scott. Dennis had the crowd gasping for air during his remarks .. and who doesn't love Willard Scott. Turns out that Willard listens to the show on WSVA and spends much of the Winter down in my Naples neck of the woods, so dinner plans are in the works.
Saving the most important for last .. .and that's you. I know that I infuriate you sometimes, and more likely than not you've sent the show one of those "I'm never going to listen to you again" emails. But when the voting for the HOF came along, you were there. People who work with me know that I started dreaming of being in the Radio Hall of Fame about 17 years ago. I'm still pinching myself. I know I could never have made it without the support of my wife, Donna, and the dedication of people like Belinda Skelton, Royal Marshall and Cristina Gonzalez ... and listeners like you.
Special note: Ivan Solomon from Solomon Brothers Jewelers has a special Radio Hall of Fame ring made for me. We're going to take that ring and the Hall of Fame trophy and put it on display at Solomon Brothers for a week or so ... then I want it back.
Thanks to all of you.
Over the weekend, in an unusual Saturday vote, Princess Nancy managed to twist enough arms and her PelosiCare legislation passed. The vote was within five: 220-215. That means 39 Democrats aren't going to be attending Nancy Pelosi's Christmas party, and one Republican will be an honorary guest. Republican Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao of Louisiana voted for the bill. Jamie Dupree has a full list of the Democrats who voted "no" on the bill.
So now we head to the Senate. Looks like we have another one of those "Dead on Arrival" situations. The chances of Pelosicare passing in its current form are nil. Nada. Zip. Maybe this has something to do with it ... Pelosicare will end up costing this nation $3 trillion of ten years. John Boehner's office explains how ...
PelosiCare has now passed the House of Representatives. PelosiCare is now dead. It's going nowhere. Nothing resembling the monstrosity that passed the House on Saturday will be enacted into law by this congress.
There's a 5.4% surtax in the bill on all family incomes of $1,000,000 or more. If you're single the threshold is $500,000. Democrats know you don't understand this; but these taxes will hit the very small businesses that we depend on for new jobs.
Pelosi's bill contains $250 billion dollars in deficit spending ... oh, but wait. They're voting on that separately so that you can't say the deficit spending is part of Pelosi's bill. Are you following this?
You do know that you'll start paying the taxes immediately --- but that you won't start reaping the benefits for another four years or so, don't you? Quite the con there. They say that PelosiCare will only cost $850+ trillion dollars over the first ten years ... but don't tell you will only receive benefits for six out of those ten years. Wait till the next 10 years hits you in the can.
Thus far nobody has explained where in our Constitution it gives the Imperial Federal Government the power to jail someone for a period of five years for failing to purchase a health insurance policy. But what the hell does Nancy Pelosi care about our Constitution, anyway?
California Congresswoman and general dingbat Maxine Waters says that PelosiCare will be as strong as Social Security and Medicare. (Both programs are nearly bankrupt). She also says that she can "assure you" that your children will not have to pay for the cost of PelosiCare in the future. If a member of congress is a reflection of the district that elects him/her, then the 35th Congressional District of California is a District of dumb masses.
Some suggest that PelosiCare will cost the American taxpayers and the economy ONE BILLION dollars per page.
We are uncovering more pieces of the puzzle. Last week I caught hell from my listeners for daring to mention that the man who killed 13 soldiers at Ft. Hood is a Muslim. Did his religion ... his peaceful, serene religion ... have anything to do with his actions? Well a report from London found something very interesting.
Nidal Malik Hasan worshipped at a mosque that was led by radical imam who turned out to be a "spiritual advisor" to three hijackers of 9/11. According to the report, Hasan attended a mosque in Great Falls, Virginia in 2001 at the same time as two of the 9/11 terrorists. The imam is a man named Anwar al-Awlaki. He is known for, among other things, supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organizations.
Here are more of the details:
As investigators look at Hasan's motives and mindset, his attendance at the mosque could be an important piece of the jigsaw. Al-Awlaki moved to Dar al-Hijrah as imam in January, 2001, from the west coast, and three months later the September 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour began attending his services. A third hijacker attended his services in California.
Hasan was praying at Dar al-Hijrah at about the same time, and the FBI will now want to investigate whether he met the two terrorists.
Charles Allen, a former under-secretary for intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security, has described al-Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen, as an "al-Qaeda supporter, and former spiritual leader to three of the September 11 hijackers... who targets US Muslims with radical online lectures encouraging terrorist attacks from his new home in Yemen".
OK ... excuse me, but I have a question. Here we have this Army Major - a Muslim - a Muslim who apparently posted some rather radical and violent messages on the Internet. Now we learn that he very well have attended this radical Mosque in Virginia. All of this ... and he's still in a position to purchase handguns and murder 13 Americans at Ft. Hood? Where in the hell were our intelligence forces while all of this was going on? Do we have another incidence here of various intelligence agencies keeping tabs on parts of this Muslim goon's life, but not communicating with each other?
Investigate Hasan? Fine ... do it. Perform an autopsy on his, as far as I'm concerned, before he dies. Fly Dr. G to Texas with her bolt cutters. But while we're at it let's investigate the investigators to see what they were doing while this Islamic goon was plotting murder. I don't know any of the people killed yet I'm just mad as hell over this. I can't imagine how I would feel if I was a friend or a member of a family involved.
How many news stories have you read lately about home invasions? Here's one from Sunday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Man Shot During Home Invasion." Last night I went to Google news and entered "home invasion." I got 3,101 hits. When I added the word "shot" I got 438 hits. This search went back only to October. If you go to the regular Google search site, rather than the one focusing on news stories, you get 1,440,000 hits; 486,000 when you add "shot."
Why bring this up? That would be because there are politicians out there; generally Democrats; who are working hard to make sure that a law-abiding citizen of this country has as difficult a time as possible buying a gun for protection. Any anti-gun laws they manage to pass will be adhered to by whom? Law-abiding citizens, that's whom. The thugs and goons carrying out all of these home invasion robberies and attacks will look upon these laws as nothing less than the disarmament of their victims.
Just thought you might like to pay a bit more attention to this. Maybe ... just maybe it's time to arm yourself and get some training. The headline I like to see reads like this: Home Intruder shot, killed.
Senator Joe Lieberman has really stepped in it. He dared to suggest that the shooting in Fort Hood was an act of "Islamist extremism." He told Fox News yesterday, "There are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act."
Let's go to the definitions here. A terrorist act is generally defined as the mass murder of civilians for political purposes. This was an attack on soldiers in uniform. Perhaps it was more of an act of war than of terror. What's certain is that this is another real manifestation of the Islamic code and culture of violence.
Last week we got the news that our national unemployment rate hit 10.2%. This is a far cry from the 8% Obama promised when he urged Congress to pass his $787 billion stimulus plan as fast as possible. But here we are. People are outraged because they can't find work. So what does Obama want to do? He wants his team to "study new spending on roads and bridges, business tax cuts, refitting buildings to make them more energy efficient, easing the flow of credit to small businesses and boosting U.S. exports."
Well ... he has some of that right; the business tax cut part at least. But how can The Community Organizer talk about business tax cuts on the one hand while supporting one of the most massive tax increases on small businesses in our history on the other?
ObamaCare and PelosiCare are jobs killers. Plan and simple jobs killers. If I were a small businessman I would be holding all of my available cash and future plans close to my chest until I find out what sort of new taxes I'm going to be paying next year. Why would a small businessman want to expand his business or hire new workers when every Democrat in congress is screaming for more of his money?
Too bad the ObamaMedia won't really tell this story.
We will start off the week with a libertarian warning about the slippery slope of government intervention.
Read this and tell me how thrilled you are that The Community Organizer is our president. Maybe this will be enough to get you to take that embarrassing Obama bumper sticker off your car. Why advertise that you're a screw up?
This is a list of the winners and the losers, hand-picked by Princess Nancy herself and outlined in her healthcare bill.
Black protesters in Washington over the weekend believe that "Obama is white power in black face."
Here's a great, short political analysis of what happened in the House over the weekend.
Mark Steyn points to a potentially fatal flaw at the heart of what we have called, since 9/11, the "war on terror."
Have you ever noticed that higher income taxes do not translate into smaller budget deficits? Seems that many politicians have yet to notice this.
Speaking of the "war on terror," what role does the liberal left play in our efforts to combat Islamic extremism?
George Will expounds on this global warming fraud in the lead up to Copenhagen.
The Senate Homeland Security Committee is going to conduct a congressional investigation of the shootings at Fort Hood.
Did Obama Just Convict the Suspected Fort Hood Shooter?
Residents in a village in New York will be allowed to cast as many as six votes for one trustee candidate, after a judge ruled that the village voting system was unfair to Hispanics.
The G-20 wants to tax banks and other financial institutions to help fund future government emergency aid, but tax cheat Timothy Geithner says that the US won't back that plan.
Taking a look at polling trends, it seems that the Obama administration has managed to return America to "politics as usual" rather than living up to expectation.
In the wake of the shooting at Fort Hood, Barack Obama is trying to diffuse any anti-Muslim backlash.
One Congressman's idea of "transparency" includes installing cameras in every room on Capitol Hill.
Looks like Russia may be changing its tune on sanctions against Iran.
Maybe this is why ... a secret watchdog report believes that Iran may have already tested an advanced nuclear warhead design.
Freddie Mac posted a $5 billion loss and it predicted that it would need more taxpayer support. BOHICA!
Hugo Chavez is readying his military for war as a deterrent to any US-led attack.
Our debate about healthcare reform has come down to this ...
How many members of Congress do you think are millionaires?
For all we know .. this study was funded by taxpayer dollars. Barney Frank probably ... nevermind!
