WHEN IN DOUBT, SAVE THE GOVERNMENT SCHOOL TEACHERS

Barack Obama and the White House have decided that their $787 billion economic stimulus bill has been a success. How do they figure?? They base this on the fact that as many as a quarter of the jobs that have "saved or created" are government school teachers.

The chief economic advisor for Joe Biden says that recent data shows that at least 250,000 educational jobs have been saved or created. Oddly enough, no one has actually SEEN this report. The Republicans point out that 250,000 jobs were lost last month alone and 3 million have been lost since the economic stimulus bill was signed. But don't slow us down with the facts! Let's celebrate that we have done exactly what we wanted to do: get more people on the government payroll. After all, folks, remember that these teachers are nothing more than glorified government bureaucrats. They are paid by the government, report to the government, abide by government regulations to fulfill their jobs requirement ... they are government employees.

So we spend $787 billion to provide pork barrel projects and hire more government workers. That sounds like stimulus to me!

Keep in mind that data released last week by the federal government found that federal contracts paid for with stimulus money created or saved 30,383 jobs. That is not a lot of jobs, folks. In fact, the White House at one point had a goal of saving or creating 3.5 million jobs over two years. There is a pretty big gap between 30,000 and 3.5 million, wouldn't you say? So when in doubt, emphasize the fact that you kept the government school teachers around and hope that Americans are too ignorant to realize that the darn thing isn't working.

And while we're at it .. you do know this whole "created or saved" thing is a crock, don't you? There is no way the government can accurately tell you how many jobs have been "saved" by stimulus spending. What we have here is the local governments telling the federal government "Oh yeah! Thanks for the money! If it hadn't been for that money we would have fired a bunch of people!" Hogwash. This is nothing but a transparent PR scam designed to convince the public that this stimulus plan is working. Try to get some private business to talk about jobs saved

What others are saying

  • A Job Saved? No... not exactly.
I'm familiar with one of these "saved jobs" through a former classmate I saw recently at our thirtieth reunion. She retired from teaching second grade after twenty-six years.

Recently, she was offered a part-time job teaching in a remedial reading program. As she said, it was use the money or lose it. What was the source of their funding? The Obama Stimulus Bill.

If this was a needed program, why did the school spend more than $5 million on a new football stadium to include artificial turf? They had already spent $18 million on a new high school building just ten years ago.
  • Jobs lost or not restored
Can we create our own unemployment statistic of jobs lost and in some number of jobs that might returned but didn't because of the administrations policies?
  • When in doubt, just make up a gov't statistic
"People were not fired, how can you be mad at that? Why do crybaby conservatives complain about positive things but dont complain when Bush was flushing jobs down the toilet. I cant wait to hear a lame excuse about the media. Yeah, that makes sense."

Actually, Bush saved or created 23 million jobs! Yeah! Using the same standard as the current administration, one could say that if Bush hadn't done what he did, 23 million more would have lost their jobs!

I know its totally unprovable, but can't you say the same for Obama's message?
  • Job Loss
Neil, its not the economy thats causing job loss, business has been Obama proofing! Like one of you posts said in the past, "the best way to Obama-proof your business is to fire as many people as possible". With all these threats of tax hikes with cap n trade, health care, thats exactly what they are doing!!
  • re Brian Fantasia
according to your beloved PMSNBC, roughly $53B of the $787B has been spent. I am not so much worried about people who were not fired, since goverment (Bush I, II, Clinton, Obama) does not create jobs. I am worried about the "claim" that stimulus money ($53B) created 30,383 jobs...that is approaching $1.8M per job. Why would anyone think that is an accomplishment? GIVE ME HALF OF THAT AND I'LL CREATE TWICE AS MANY JOBS...now that is change you can count on.
  • No more pork
Stop the pork, shut down the Dept. of Education, close the IRS go to goooh.com and get involved.
  • Education "jobs" can be saved?
really..since it's a government check it is NOT a "job"! Don't believe me lefties? Then what would happen if everyone had a government job of whatever type?? Hmm? Who would pay the salary if we're all on the government dole?? Government jobs cost money and therefore an effort to "save" them actually costs money, so you haven't in the aggregate saved anything. Moreover, only the government could use such a nebulous term as "saved" a job - you can’t nail it down, it can't be quantified or qualified, they might as well have said they saved 100 million jobs and just try to prove them wrong.
  • "government" schools
It is time we call it what it is...unconstitutional. It is impossible to teach without imputing morals. The school system decides the morals they will teach. This violates the establishment clause, as morals must be based on a religious belief (even atheism is a religious belief). Let's shut the whole thing down. Then the teachers can step up for all the "shovel ready" jobs O has created. Or they can take back all the jobs "Americans won't do" that the illegals now have.

BTW - Brian, what did you do with Jimmy?
  • Economic Stimulous
I don't think we have to worry too much about people believing jobs were saved, because all of us out of work know it didn't.
  • Teachers
This whole admin. has been about rewarding
    The Saviours supporters.
  • Save the teachers!
C'mon Neal. Saving the teachers is like saving baby seals. These are people that are so stupid that they flop around in Schools of Education until they throw them a degree. They'd surely get clubbed over the head if they had to work in the real world. Mentally defenseless teachers couldn't possibly get a job in the private sector. As the least intellectual among us in Obama's jobless economy, they must be saved. It's the rest of us in the non-union class that a getting seal-clubbed.
  • Government Schools Are Great
Look in your own backyard, Atlanta people.

The ACJ reported yesterday that some scores are like this:

West Manor Elementary School fifth-grade math.

    CRCT gain: 6.2 standard deviations

Odds: Less than 1 in a billion

Peyton Forest Elementary School fourth-grade math

    CRCT gain: 6.1 standard deviations

Odds: Less than 1 in a billion

    http://www.ajc.com/news/are-drastic-swings-in-165974.html?cxtype=rss_news_128746

The responsible people say they hired a smart new teacher to turn them around.

Illicit answer keys that a teacher had distributed to other fifth-grade teachers at Collier-Usher Elementary have nothing to do with it.
  • Yeah, they can say anything they want
and completely get away with it.

That's because all of the real news organizations are out reporting on "real" news instead of the lies being pushed on us.
  • Crying conservatives again
People were not fired, how can you be mad at that? Why do crybaby conservatives complain about positive things but dont complain when Bush was flushing jobs down the toilet. I cant wait to hear a lame excuse about the media. Yeah, that makes sense.
