THE OBAMA OLYMPICS? CAN WE GET SERIOUS HERE?

OK, so Chicago lost its Olympic bid. Big stinking surprise, right? There they were, Barack, Michelle and Oprah, traveling all the way to Copenhagen (on the taxpayer's dollar) to schmooze on behalf of the windy city, and Rio gets the Olympics. Maybe Oprah should have bought every member of the IOC a nice shiny new car. It really was rather sad to see that rock band up there in front of a few thousand Chicagoans trying to figure out what to play after the announcement was made. Any suggestions? How does that tune go.....?

Chicago!

Chicago!

We got our butts kicked.

Oh well, here's my problem. This got really absurd real quick last Friday afternoon. Across the web and the radio dial this whole Chicago/Olympics debacle suddenly became the sole and exclusive fault of just one man ... Barack Obama. He was the reason .. and the only reason .. that Chicago lost out.

Are you kidding me?

Let's consider some other possible reasons. First ... I went through the names of the members of the International Olympic Committee. Now this is probably not accurate because some of these gender-bending international names are hard to figure out; but I put it at about 89 men and about 17 women, give or take one or two of each, and maybe a few GLBTC types in there as well. Now ... have you been to Chicago? Have you seen the women there? Fine. They're OK, by Chicago Standards. And no ... Catherine Zeta Jones does NOT live in Chicago. Now ... have you been to Rio? Nuff said, right? Do the math; 89 men, 17 women voting on whether to hang out for the next seven years in Chicago or Rio. Now just how difficult is that?

Another comparison: Navy Pier to Rio's beaches.

Then there's the possibility that the president actually did make a difference when he went rushing off to Copenhagen; a negative difference. Not, however, because it was President Obama, but because it was the President of the United States. Look; many foreign countries are a bit weary of what they view as America throwing its weight around. Naturally, if they're attacked or buried under an avalanche or tsunami they would just LOVE to see some weighty American money thrown around ... but unless there's danger at the doorstep they want us to stay in the background for a change. Now I may see this as a dangerous policy, but I don't count. Perhaps the IOC saw a presidential visit as some sort of a mandate. Here's the American President over here telling us what to do again. Let's show him we can't be pushed around. Sure, some other heads of state made the pitch as well, but these buffoons couldn't get a Home Depot to move in, let alone an Olympics.

Then there's the Chicago reputation itself. Let's face it, Chicago is not known as the city of lights. I happen to love the place, but overseas Chicago is gangsters. It's Al Capone. It's the St. Valentine's Day massacre and Elliot Ness. Also .. even though I love visiting Chicago, once that jerk Daily plowed under Meigs I've wanted his butt in my briefcase. This isn't it, but it's good enough. Too bad Chicago had to suffer with him.

The point here is that a lot of conservatives are keeping themselves busy looking for a way to blame everything that is negative in their lives or every bad thing that happens to anyone who lives in or is associated with our country on Barack Obama. I think Obama is a dangerous man. Anyone who believes that America's greatness comes from government is dangerous to freedom. We have a community organizer who's primary political flirtation during his college years was with Marxism. I truly believe that this could be the man who ultimately destroys the dreams of our founding fathers.

Obama is dangerous and must be watched. Those who value freedom and independence would be well advised to chose their fights with Obama and the Social-Democrat Party well. If an alarm is sounded every time he scowls or steps on a crack then America's uneducated dumb masses will completely stop paying attention. A lot of political capital has been wasted ranting about something that really, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't make all that much of a difference; that being whether or not Chicago gets the Olympics. When a true threat comes along, how do we get the attention of a weary public? Let's forget this Olympics thing. It's over. The only real losers here are the corrupt Chicago political class that undoubtedly would have cashed in on this big time, and the unions that most certainly would have controlled every square foot of Olympic-related construction.

We could have a problem though. Isn't there a huge Jesus statue looking down on Rio? I guess the ACLU is going to have to get busy getting that thing removed before our athletes will be allowed to carry an American Flag during the opening ceremony.

What others are saying

  • The summer GAMES
The Olympics, God bless 'em, are also known as the summer games. A bunch of men and women participate in sporting events. The winners get gold medals. The Olympics are important...to the sporting community. But they are not life.
Hosting the summer games is an adventure in fiscal irresponsibility. After reviewing what happens in these games, it is not necessarily a financial windfall to get the games.
We have MUCH more important things to worry about. (Such as the mad mullahs having nuclear capability AND missile capability, for one.)
Rather than being the Chicago stooge, Obama should concern himself with matters of import...such as the economy. (The best way to get an economy moving is tax cuts.) Such as the Crazy Russians, Iranians, Afghans, Venezuelans, etc... that are all looking to kill us.)
Or the terrorists that become emboldened by every show of weakness that we display, which gives them a reason to attack us again.
I don't CARE if Obama wanted to go to Copenhagen and beg for games to come to the city of corruption, his hometown. I would rather have him take the steps necessary to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution.
  • Song
That band should have played "Another one bites the dust."
  • Rio's Street Urchins
"now those sweet street urchins down in rio have a chance to improve themselves" -Butt Nekkid

Are you kidding me? The last time there was a world event in Rio there were MASSACRES in the streets perpetrated by Police to purge the street of some of the millions of street urchins children as young as 7 were found shot in the head thousands of them ended up dead. I don't think this will benefit those poor kids mark my words they will start finding alot of dead kids in Rio as 2016 draws closer

What is it with you split-personality libtards, anyway? Why do you always change your monikers when you post some cowardly drivel? Pathetic.

BTW, I'm co-hosting a fundraiser for our GOP congressman. Would you be available to be our guest speaker?

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The propaganda of this administration and the MSM is beyond ridiculous. For the past year, I actually have to listen to so many talk about how beautiful she is and how well toned her arms are. WHAT???????? What do these people hold us for?? Do they think we are blind?? MO's a$$ is so big, she irons her pants on the White House driveway. Give me a freakin'break. Then, that underbite of hers, especially when she always puts her lips together instead of smiling. Then, that Arsenio Hall finger (about 8 inches long) she always points when she hunches over the podium as she speaks. What is attractive about her??
  • Loser - Anonymous???
    >>>>>>>>>>"But the real damage you took was from your talk radio heroes who cheered against America. You can debate the merits of having the Olympics here, you can debate whether Rio should have had them for a first time. But that is not what happened. Conservatives hit a new low and cheered agaist America. But that has become their way. It's not about what is good for the country, but its all now about the vendetta against Obama.

I hope this country never has a 9/11 type event ever again. But after what we saw last week, if it does during the Obama administration will we see conservatives cheering again. I for one think they will.<<<<<<<<<<

First off, considering the slam against talk radio again, and the braindead drivel spewed, it appears that East Conservative now has changed his name once again. He is now too chicken$hit to make up a name! He just goes by "anonymous"! What probably happened was that he may have realized that we broke his secretive code; i.e. started with NC Conservative, then got real tricky and went with East Coast Conservative, then after getting destroyed on Friday, he planned on fooling us all by using the name Tar Heel State Conservative but decided to just go with anonymous..

Anyways, your post is really rich, especially coming from a party who for the last 8 years (and continuing) based each and every election and campaign on one thing - Bush is bad. You cretins cheered as you counted the soldiers who died in the war. You cheered the milestone "soldier deaths" of 1,000 and 2,000 and 3,000. You cheered for the economy to tank and were literally besides yourselves when the Dow hit 14,000 and unemployment was down to 4.5%. That said, you had nothing and focused your efforts on phony "crises" such as Valeria Plame and Anthony Gonzalez. So, spare me your dimwitted post about cheering against America.
  • My how soon we forget! But...
    maybe the Olympic Committee didn't.

America left a bad taste in the IOC's mouth thanks to Bill Campbell and how badly it was said we handled the Olympics when it was here last.

Chicago didn't have a prayerEspecially when Obama tried to make it personal.
  • that jist ain't right..........................
the first ho waz sittin' on her daddy lap.................at 20????????

oh sumpin' ain't right 'bout dat.......thats why ioc said no to chi-town..........too many perverts in.....
  • That is itself a disgusting thing to say
I hope this country never has a 9/11 type event ever again. But after what we saw last week, if it does during the Obama administration will we see conservatives cheering again. I for one think they will.

    Is that 3?
  • Olympics
Chicago didn't get it because Blagojevich got caught and therefore was not able to raise the funds to grease the wheels of the IOC.
  • "I'm surprised you are here so early. I figured you, East Coast Lib/Conservative, and the other libs would have checked yourselves in the ER on Friday after the beatdown $mooth gave you on Friday."

HAHA! You conservatives sure live in your own little world where facts and reality are not options. Smooth didn't beat down anyone, in fact he took a smackdown himself from ECC.

But the real damage you took was from your talk radio heroes who cheered against America. You can debate the merits of having the Olympics here, you can debate whether Rio should have had them for a first time. But that is not what happened. • @Newby
Newsflash newby: we are rejoicing because it means Osamabama's cronies won't get the payoffs, bribes, backroom deals, kickbacks, etc. per the usual "chicago way".

From a conservative viewpoint, that's something we can chalk up in the "Win" column.

  • Round 1
Lookit, if you got booted in the first round, you were never in contention. Of course, you would not know until the vote occurred, but you'd be less likely to point fingers then.
  • Intelligent Choices
The Olympic Committee showed a lot more intelligence when casting their votes than this country did when Barack, Oprah and Michelle showed up. I do feel bad for the good folks in Chicago but that town didn't stand a chance.

“The main goal of the GOP these days is to insure that President Obama's
administration is a complete and utter failure.”

LOL…that’s one thing he CAN’t blame on the GOP and Bush…he’s doing fine all on his own.

“They want to see as many Americans as possible suffer in the next three years, thus, ensuring that they will be able to seize control of the executive branch in 2013.”

It‘s not that conservatives “want to see as many Americans as possible suffer”, it’s that we will be witness to many Americans suffering” More concisely, PRODUCTIVE Americans.

“If the president succeeds in making life better for his countrymen and women" they fail. It's as simple as that.

::KABLINK::!! Tell me I didn't see the "IF" word in front of a liberal comment about the Messiah.

Oh my...could it be they are losing faith?

  • Dear Tom D.
    You said:

The main goal of the GOP these days is to insure that President Obama's administration is a complete and utter failure.

BHO doesn't need any help from the GOP on that, he's pretty much a one man band on that one.

But tell me Tom, who has the DNC been bashing for EVERYthing the past 8 years?
I'll give you a hint, he came from and returned to Texas.

So am I saying it's ok to bash BHO as some sort of payback for the past 8 years? Goodness no but it is ok to call a club a club.
  • Tom Degan don't be a hypocrite
The people of Chicago overwhelmingly didn't want the games themselves?!!! I guess they are despicable also?

Your comments are almost exactly what 3mbw posted in the Reading Assignments so I guess this is what has been passed out to be today's talking points for you progressives.
  • Blaming it on Bush
It cracks me up every time I see some dope trying to blame this on Bush.

Got an ingrown toenail at the WH? Must be Bush's fault!

I didn't like Bush worth a damn, but come ON, people!

And, off topic, why does Michelle always seem to favor clothing that makes her rear look as big as a barn door?
  • The U.S. loses and the right wing cheers about it
Has the right ever though about putting country before party?
  • Jimmy Dolan
obviously is unaware that most of the founders did not own slaves, and were in fact leaders of antislavery movements.
  • Jimmy
Surely you don't want to lie to the people on here....with all of your "klan this" and "slavery that" BS I hit the Jimmy Dolan ancestry nail on the head. eastern european? ha ha ha
  • Olympics
The "O's" and their many minions over-estimated their last minute Power of Personality, Presence and Persuasion.
It is highly "disingenuiious" for the DEMS and their media myrmidons to attack the right wing for the power failure of the "O's". Should they have succeeded in their Olympic attempt to fleece Americans while filling the pockets of political/ union/ special interest and Chicago corruption lords with PAYBACK contracts, loans, grants, trips, merchandise, tuition packages, etc... just think of the COST and federal bailout consequences!
  • Poor Judgement
The fact that Chicago lost the Olympics even with Obama's last minute appeal doesn't really bother me - what does is that Obama couldn't see that the IOC was leaning towards Rio and he actually believed that his showing up would make a difference! The South American continent has NEVER hosted the Olympic Games. It was time. Rio was the city and nothing was going to turn the tide. WHO THE HELL IS ADVISING OBAMA? This confirms (at least in my mind) that Obama has surrounded himself with YES men and has apparently lost touch with reality. None of his advisors had the guts to tell him this was a lost cause and could end up making him look feeble, weak, etc.

Perhaps the rock band should have played "The Night Chicago Died".
  • Rush
I didn't listen to Rush that day, but this quote someone here posted is pretty good: “When you stop to think about it, folks, doesn’t it make sense?” Limbaugh asked. “Our president, Barack Hussein Obama, has been running around the world for nine months telling everybody how much our country sucks…. Why would anybody award the Olympics to such a crappy place?”… " Somehow Rush always knows how to put things together. I really really don't care if we won Olympics or not, it's completely irrelevant to me. But Obamas' humongous egos are annoying - Michelle with "the gloves are off" when referring to the bid was completely lame, the whole things is supposed to bring the world together.. Moving on, we sure have more things to worry about.
  • Who is Tom Degan?
And why would anyone give a rat's A$$ about what he thinks?
  • two words
HA HA .... kicked out in the first round. This was obviously deliberate. Nobody can sit there and listen to Obama's egomaniacal teleprompter blabbering without having a barf bag close by. I read excerpts from his speech and yacked all over my computer screen.

The Obamas really went for broke. Michelle even spoke to the olympics committee about how she sat on her father's lap and watched Carl Lewis run when she was 20-years-old. I found that scenario to be a little disturbing, but maybe it's a black thing.
  • IOC "raaaaaacist"? Here we go....
Already, we have the first idiot (Tre')calling the IOC "racist". I'm waiting for the next idiot to accuse the IOC of being part of the "vast right wing conspiracy".

Secondly, there's no question that the IOC's decision was in large part motivated by the desire to "humiliate and bitch slap" Osamabama.......like Rush said, Osamabama has miscalculated (again) the burning hatred for this country abroad and his ego continually clouds his judgement. Thanks, Club for interjecting some reality into the debate.
  • best comment
I saw this one on another site... At least now we'll have to stop comparing Obama to Hitler. He was able to get the Olympics in Berlin

  • @ T-shirt Doc
I'm surprised you are here so early. I figured you, East Coast Lib/Conservative, and the other libs would have checked yourselves in the ER on Friday after the beatdown $mooth gave you on Friday.
  • Chicago
Using misappropriated FAA funds to Carve an X secretly and with no notice at night in Meigs runway with an airplane in route and stranding others at the field pretty much describes what we are dealing with.
  • @catseye
Lots of folks on the left seem to be crying over Chicago losing this fight for the Olympics instead of what AMERICA would have gained…MORE DEBT.

    btw...
AMERICA didn't lose...Chicago lost and fortunately, contrary to popular belief, Chicago is not America’s last, best hope.
  • Obama and the Olympics
The right wing is positively giddy that the United States will not be hosting the Olympics. Seriously, has it dawned on you yet how utterly despicable these people are? I was just wonderin'.

The main goal of the GOP these days is to insure that President Obama's administration is a complete and utter failure. They want to see as many Americans as possible suffer in the next three years, thus, ensuring that they will be able to seize control of the executive branch in 2013. If the president succeeds in making life better for his countrymen and women, they fail. It's as simple as that. Mitch McConnell, to his credit, always looks quite uncomfortable when he is forced to justify policies as atrocious as those being put forward these days by that hideous party. But Cantor always has a serene, angelic smile on his face whenever he is forced to defend the morally indefensible - sort of like last week, at a Town Hall meeting when he told a woman whose mortally ill relative had been left bankrupt by her medical bills that she should rely on charity. He seemed so content with himself. Quite strange really.

It was Bush's fault. Blame Bush Syndrome is alive and well.
  • Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy...
I really do wish whoever brought your kinfolk from Africa to America would have left them there. I really do wish that slavery had never existed. I really do wish you could be back in the motherland and you never would know the injustices that this country holds. Just think...you could be sitting in a mud hut somewhere in Uganda or Congo or Somalia or...pick any of the african nations since they are all equally bad...wondering how you were going to feed your starving family, who are all suffering from parasites and disease, and scared that the guerillas are going to come chop off your hands, rape your wife and daughters, and take your sons. I really do wish...don't you?
  • Dolan the Dolt
"They dreamed of liberty, except for the slaves they held and raped."

Apparently you were raised by wolves and educated by the same.
Republican ideology was founded on “free labor, free land, free men.”

You're just another pathetic example of government run schools.

    See
    http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/10/weekly-standard-newsroom-erupts-into-cheers-at-news-of-olympics.php

Article includes numerous examples of the right wing media gloating over the fact that their country lost.

I thought republicans were supposed to be the patriotic ones who supposedly loved their country.

Another example of antics that might play to the nutty right wing base, but will do nothing to sway independents and moderates needed to win general elections.
  • Wither the Olympics?
If we're going to point fingers to figure out why Chicago didn't get the Olympics, we should start blaming Atlanta. The fiasco that was the '96 Olympics will keep the games out of America for quite some time.
  • HO HUM...........
this has got me so excited i can't even stay awake................
  • Obama Olympic pitch.
It was not Obama's fault that Chicago did not win these Olympics. It was, however, a complete political failure.

    1) As someone mentioned... if Chicago had won, Obama would have taken a considerable amount of credit for the accomplishment. He didn't, and needs to be given an equal amount of blame.
    2) He has time to jet off to Copenhagen at taxpayer's expense for a purpose that will not help the American people... yet he doesn't have time to give his generals in Afghanistan an audience for the past 9 months? While our soldiers die? Amazing.
    3) This jaunt was for his homeboys in Chicago. It is clear that he still represents them, and not the American people.

It is time our president stopped being a tourist and American apologist and started being Presidential. While he is trying to look humble, he is looking weak. While he is trying to raise America up by apologizing for past "sins", the rest of the world (that doesn't look to us for freedom and hope) really only wants to kick us while we are down. Obama is doing the American people and the American reputation no favors.
  • Obama to Blame
If Chicago had won, Obama would have taken the credit, so he must take the blame. I really believe that Mr. Ego thought that the mere presence of him and his entourage would seal the deal. You know with him being the world's savior and all. I think his presence hurt Chicago's chances, he should have stayed the heck away. I know it has dealt a blow to his political capital here at home. He looks like even more of a bumbler than he did before he made the trip. The the country is seeing even more evidence of what an egotistical empty suit is our President Obama.
  • It's Atlanta's fault
I think the IOC still has a bad taste in their mouth after the Atlanta Olympics.

Chicago's crime scene probably did not help.
  • I'm happy for Rio
There has never been an Olympics in South America which I find amazing. America has had the games many many times. Chicago is not in a position right now, they need to concentrate on their problems.

    Time to move on...
  • Had Chicago Won
Well, what if Chicago had won? We would never hear the end of how this was a major accomplishment on his behalf. I just wish all these people writing stories about how it was not Obama's loss would also put up the stories they had prepared had Chicago won. (You know the sports writers like Mike Lupica, they all have their stories ready to meet a deadline). You would have seen how this was his baby and not about Chicago or the USA at all.

I am glad Chicago did not get the games because they are a huge money pit. Let the developing world and major players like Brazil have the huge venues and empty stadiums the day after the Olympics are done, not the USA taxpayers.
  • i LOVE THE DREAMS OF FOUNDING FATHERS EXCUSE
Haha, I love how the dreams of the founding fathers is always used by conservatives. They dreamed of liberty, except for the slaves they held and raped. They also began America over 200 years ago. A lot has changed. But if conservatives want to ride around Boston on a horse and go sailing back and forth from Spain to England. Enjoy
  • another example of party before country
Lots of folks on the right seem to be delighting in America losing this fight for the Olympics . . . they would rather have their president fail than their country win.

Wasn't there once a time when something like rallying behind your country to get the Olympics could be something both the right and the left could agree on, and wish their president good luck if he would choose to go advocate for that cause?

    How sad.
  • Didn't take long for Boortz
to get his weekly support/praise for Obozo in. As usual when taking the side of the libtards, Boortz misses the entire point as he creates an argument that doesn't exist.

No one laid the blame on Obama, Neal. Why do you invent arguments that don't exist? What conservatives were making a point about is the arrogance and hypocrisy of this idiot, from the 2 carbon-emitting airplanes, to the serious issue of him not making a decision on the war while our soldiers die and he is doing a world tour. Add to the comments of Michelle saying "what a sacrifice it is for her to come to talk about the Olympics", and to the arrogance of this jerk who thought his mere presence would send the world quivering to him. Also, we can put to rest this nonsense about how much the world loves us now since we elected President Obunga.

Boortz, leave to these issue to the pros: Here's an excerpt from Rush on Friday!! Classic.............

“When you stop to think about it, folks, doesn’t it make sense?” Limbaugh asked. “Our president, Barack Hussein Obama, has been running around the world for nine months telling everybody how much our country sucks…. Why would anybody award the Olympics to such a crappy place?”…

“[Obama] doesn’t realize that the hatred for this country has not abated. There may be some love for him, but their certainly is no respect for him,” Limbaugh said.

“He doesn’t understand how delighted the world is to make him look foolish in order to take a swipe at our country,” Limbaugh said of the president. “We’ve got a two-year-old manchild with a Mars-sized ego, which today crashed and burned.”

The IOC’s rejection of Chicago’s bid was a “bitch-slap,” Limbaugh said. “Upside the head.”

    LMAO!!!!!!!!! Rush gets it.
  • wha???
    "overseas Chicago is gangsters."

Neal, are you serious? CHICAGO IS GANGSTERS! That's not to say there aren't residents who are NOT, but c'mon...how do you reckon these corrupt politicians get into office in the first place?? Chicago's reputation precedes it and THAT along with the "A Team", who is a product of that corruption is why Chicago wasn't chosen.
  • Not everything is blaming Obama
Several commentators, journalists and the Chicago elite are blaming Bush.
  • Not So Fast..It Might Actually Be Obama's Fault
The first blame I heard came from the 'Junior Senator' from Illinois, Roland Burris, who blamed, of course, George W. Bush. I sh*t you not.
And, I suggest that Obama probably DAMAGED the Chicago bid with his presence, because the decision to travel to Copenhagen might have had the effect of 'Oh, Obama's coming so we HAVE to give it to Chicago...' which actually FORCED the voters to resist Obama. They did not take his coming as a real effort; they took it as a display of arrogance, one which was easily (and obviously) reacted to with a total bitchslap from the IOC.
One thought did occur to me as I watched the stunned, blank stares of all those would-be partiers in Chicago on Friday: Being that the Olympic votes are done privately, will this make Obama more determined to implement the removal of the private ballot via the 'Card Check' bill? Hmmm.....
  • Racist
The IOC is racist. That is the reason they didn't let the Olympics go to Chicago. Also, I thought BO was all about spreading the wealth right? Didn't he want Rio/South America to have an Olympics?
  • Glad
I agree with Stan. While I do find the snub to be a great racist insult to our fabulous leader Barack Hussein Obama, I do agree with the outcome. The United States has only 6% of the world's population but we get the Summer Olympics at least once every 20 years. It makes us look pretty damn greedy, but we all know that we are. I say it's time to spread the wealth and give South America a shot!
