TAXING OUR WAY TO HEALTHCARE

This week, Nancy Pelosi and her myrmidons will work on their plans to pay for healthcare reform ... and you know they're just busting their guts to throw out some good old Democrat tax increases. Keep in mind that these are tax increases ON TOP of the increases that will come into effect when the Bush tax cuts expire.

But Nancy Pelosi has found herself trying to balance the egos of her Democrat Caucus and her union supporters. She has done this by suggesting a tax increase on "Cadillac" insurance plans. This type of tax is more popular in the Senate. In fact, the Baucus bill includes a 40% tax on insurers for plans worth more than $8,000 for individuals and $21,000 for families.

As of right now, none of the plans include an income surtax on the wealthy to pay the difference for these Democrat dreams and schemes. But who knows what she will propose this week. She may propose a tax on the evil, disgusting, vile rich people who dare to earn more than $500,000.

All we can be sure of is the fact that wealth envy is going to rear its ugly head again. I hope you are ready for it.

What others are saying

  • Tax on insurance costs?
I have the least expensive plan I'm able to purchase here in California. It's a Anthem Blue Cross MRMIP PPO assigned by the state of California, its the only insurance I can get as a result of pre-existing conditions my monthly premium is $1,150.00 per month or $13,800.00 per year. If they think I'm going to pay a tax on top of that they can pound sand, all of them!!
  • Tax based on premium cost?
A tax based solely of the insurance premium cost does not necessarily tax the wealthy. Insurance premiums increase based on the group that is insured and their health, or lack of health. My husband is uninsurable - broken back at 18, needs shoulder replacement, had a kidney stone - no other health problems - no diabetes, heart problems, cancer, etc. His COBRA premium is $900 a month. Notice I wrote COBRA - he has already been laid off and we are scraping to pay his premium now. There is no other insurance option for him. Increase his premium and Pelosi has created another uninsured - oh but that doesn't matter, he's an evil conservative white male that is not part of their voting base. We own a small business but we are its only employees so no group policy will touch us.
  • Here's my idea for a new tax
Let's put a tax on the Democratic Party. They are the ones that want all the wealthy taxed, tax their wealthy supporters and leave everyone else alone.
  • I am ready
I have saved up enough money to pay any tax increases. Sure it would be great if taxes were not increased. But I have learned that conservatives live in a world of leprechauns and unicorns
  • Where In Hell Are The Republicans?
This is such a simple issue! Is there no one who will call for an extension of the Bush Tax cuts beyond 2010, as well as the permanent repeal of the Death Tax? Does anyone besides me realize that there is a national election in 13 months? Not only would extending the Bush cuts be beneficial to the American economy, but it would be a nice little election-year nugget for whomever shows the balls to bring it up.
  • Healthcare tax
Does this tax apply to themselves? Considering they have the Ultimate Cadillac Insurance plans. No? Thought not..
