"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."

What others are saying

  • 60 years... and it still "preaches"...
I went to Harding College (now University) and saw this while a student. The Free Enterprise Club was known for their "TANSTAAFL" buttons (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch)! Right to the point...
  • I was shown this
I had a really good social studies/government teacher back in middle school that had shown this and others like it on a regular basis. Hell, I even remember saying the pledge every morning and having 30 second silent meditation. Looking back on it, I am glad I was able to experience that, and at a government school too. All this in the middle of the 90's. I dont' think you could find a school now that still does this.
  • Please!
Please make a permanent link to this video. We need to have an easy to find place to send people to see this.
  • Barack Obama is Dr. Utopis (ISM)
President Obama could play the snake oil salesman because they sound so much alike. I saw this cartoon many years ago and it had an effect on me. I learned something from it. I think it had something to do with me having a dislike of the Democrats since the 70`s and listening to shows like Boortz and dare I say it, Rush! Because they speak the truth. They sometimes get sidetracked like Neal did with that Construction worker last Friday, but basically they tow the line for Freedom. Todays Democrats are destroying Freedom. Plain and simple.
  • It's change we can believe in
    Obamacare put into perspective.

  • This
is a cartoon. From the forties.
  • Race
That was dated 1948. Although I only saw a non-white when the narrator was mentioning race and religion (and it showed students in the classroom I believe), I was impressed that race was dealt with in such a liberal way.

That was a wonderful little piece of good propoganda. Remember when Hollywood and Universities were still mostly in favor of American ideals?
  • Was The Patriot Act....
One swig of the "ISM" Snake Oil ? I think so..
  • Nice.
Some of those proud American statistics are no longer applicable, but Capitalism and Freedom aren't utilitarian arguments anyway. We don't support them be cause they work (they do), we support them because it's right. Even if some other system produced demonstrably better economic results, it wouldn't matter to me.
  • Missing the point
Yes, there is a mistake, yes there is no right to vote. Many of you seem stuck staring at the tiny speck and missing the whole picture. Please watch it again.
  • @SFC MAC
Help me understand the comment "like it or not." I was merely pointing out that there is no Right to Vote, per Bush v Gore (decided in the Supreme Court). I made no other statement regarding policy, yet it appears you assumed via my "name" that it was belittling of the policy of Capitalism. I love Capitalism, as it is the ultimate equalizer (converse to Socialism which purports to be the equalizer). Everyone earns what they make based on their merits, nothing more, nothing less.

On a side note to everyone. Did you notice that Capitalism ends with a "ISM"? Wish they could find a different way to say it, maybe a drink labeled "Social Welfare" or "Commie" or "Community Organizer" or even "ACORN"
  • US Right to vote -- Just not for President
There is a right to vote at some levels. There is not right to vote for the President of the United States.

Article 1, Section 2 states "The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second
Year by the People of the several States". Other than by voting of some form how is one to do that. Have the self appointed elite do it for them?

Amendment 15 changed an implied right under Amendment 10 to an explicit right.

Amendment 14 does a wounderful expansion of what positions one can vote for.

Amendment 17 makes Senators an elected office by the people.

If you are going to spout it, get it right.

I know a bunch of you out there would like back the poll taxes and intelligence test that used to be given. You know, the intellignece test that even a knowledgable person couldn't pass if a pollworker didn't want them to pass. That keeps out those "undesirables".
  • Only 1 thing wrong
There is NO RIGHT TO VOTE !!! Otherwise, pretty good!
  • Barack Obama’s Fairy Palace
Here is another great old cartoon pertinent to the moment.

  • Freedom
Thanks for running it and I did send it to my rep especially since one of them is acting like a child
  • "ISM"
OMFG. Love this. This should be played in all our schools but we know that will never happen. It goes against everything being taught today. Maybe oneday people will wake up & rise up on the way our government id doing us. God help us all.
  • WOW
Absolutely amazing that the snke oil salesmen are still around.... also amazing the simillar look to the big "O" and this guy in the cartoon.
  • ISM
This is fantastic. I wish it could be shown on every TV channel every hour until the next election.
  • @Tre'
Incidentally, Gore tried to suppress the right of military personnel (I was one at the time)to vote via absentee ballots. He tried his level damndest to get them nulled.

Secondly, even one of the most leftwing rags on the planet admitted that had the re-count gone to its bitter end, it was inevitably in Bush's favor. He had the votes and the electoral college, like it or not.

  • Ism
...sounds good I think I'll have some...
  • Interesting
I watched this video a couple of weeks ago on YouTube. It is interesting how much the nation's attitude has changed when it comes to individual freedoms. It is highly unlikely that something like this cartoon would be produced today. YouTube has many cool cartoons like this, if you have the time you should check them out. Thanks Boortz.
  • Has “Ism” ever worked?
    [ Statism, Socialism,Progressivism,Fascism, Marxism,Collectivism,Leninism,Stalinism,....]
  • This is great but....
where is this kinda talk today?
its a shame how many of our own want mommy govt to take them over
  • "Right to Vote"
I thought there was no Right to Vote as determined in Bush v Gore?
  • Right to Vote
Great video, thank you Neal. Except there is no right to vote.
  • How poignant!
This should be played in all schools and in all grades now!!! Maybe, just maybe we can work on saving this great republic.
  • Harding College Video
What a great message. It is even in a form that Government educated liberals could understand.
