Quite a few Republicans, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, are wringing their hands over PrezBO's visit to Copenhagen to promote the 2016 Olympics for Chicago. They say that there were more important things for Obama to focus on back here. Well ... know what? There are more important things for Republicans to focus on as well. OK ... so the White House first said the president wouldn't go, then he went. Big deal. The point here is if the Republicans get their thongs in a bunch every time Obama wanders off on some quest the people are going to tired of hearing about it ... and they won't pay attention when the important stuff happens. Schmoozing for the Olympics may be important for the people of Illinois and Chicago - it will cost them a bundle - but for the rest of us? Not so much.

What others are saying

  • trip to Copenhagen for Olympic pitch
That little trip cost taxpayers about $10 million with back up Air Force One, equipment planes etc.etc Trip is about quid pro quo for Valerie Jarret among others
  • If the Olympic Games don't go to Chicago
does that mean the olympic committee are racists and part of the "vast right wing conspiracy" too?
  • Alabamastan
Then you might wanna re-read your post cause it does appear on a bit of a finger pointing attitude. When we are reading comments, we don't have the benefit of "hearing" the emotion behind the words.

Anyway, I still don't see much difference between Bush and Obama, at least towards the end of the Bush term in financial matters. The Patriot Act was a mistake from the beginning but reminds me of veiled threats to control the internet, talk radio, etc. that is going on now.

So really to answer your question about where were people during Bush... I guess they are standing there saying "was there a change?".

Now, back to the Olympics, you do know who owns a big chunk of demolishable (I made up that term) real estate just waiting for an Olympic venue? Valerie Jarrett. hmmmmmmmm

    hugs and kisses
  • Olympics
If Chicago is chosen for the Olympics, the taxpayers will be paying for it a long time; I would like to know the names of the people who will profit from it.
  • Whoa, Joyce!
    Calm down a little!

I thought we were pals even though we don't agree too often.

I was referring to the other day when you chastised 3mbw for always bringing up Bush so I was (humoreously)trying to point out that you have made it clear you are no Bush fan and so stop the comparisons!

And believe me, I don't go along with everything that happening these days, but I think the criticism should be focused on things that actually matter.

    Better now?
  • Rio de Janerio deserves the Olympics this time
Rio de Janerio should host the Olympics this time. There are several reasons:

    (1) South America has never hosted the Olympics.
    (2) Can we really afford to spend billions on "games" during these tough economic times. It is possible that we'll make the money back in 2016, but now spending billions that we don't have is not wise. Bailing out the banks and UAW is painful enough to most people.
    (3) America has hosted the summer and winter Olympics several times.
    (4) The recent spade of brutal violence, gangs, and murders, and the political corruption of the city, paints an ugly picture of Chicago.

Rio de Janerio does have the violent, drug-controlled favelas, but still Brazil does deserve the Olympics this time.
  • Chicago Corruption
You really need to keep up with Glenn Beck. He's now drawing a 'lines' between Valerie Jerrett (BO's right hand woman) and her management of Grove Parc and what this may mean for the Olympic bid. (Payback???) So, yes, it is worth digging into to root out the corruption!
  • It's Barack's Billions not Brewster's Millions
Chicago has underinsured their Olympic financial costs and obligations by more than half of the cost projections for the 2016 expenses.
Any cost overruns will be absorbed by the various Chi-town maneuvers that soaks local, state and federal taxpayers for the necessary political paybacks, corruption scams, and outright INABILITY to forecast and manage such a project.
We all will pay if Chicago wins.
  • Chicago
    1936 to 2016
Adolph Hitler hosted the 1936 Olympics...Barry hopes he can host the 2016 Olympics. The only real difference is 70 years and the fact that Barry nailed Poland before the games.
    .
    That was funny.And sadly,accurate.lol
  • joshmassey@mindspring.com
"I think he thought when he became President, it would be a never-ending of parties and fun, but it isn't."

Exactly. He's acted more like a lottery winner than President. "I get to have weekly cocktail parties! I get to go on The Tonight Show! I get to go to Denmark!"

I don't mind him shilling for Chicago. I DO mind him using taxpayer money to fly himself and his wife - SEPARATELY - over there when teleconferencing could have accomplished the same thing.
  • What a Trooper!!!!!!!!
Get a load of the recent headlines:

    (1) In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her "dear friend" and "chit-chat buddy" Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow's visit by President Obama, is a "sacrifice" on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. "As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days," the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, "so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home."

She is doing God's work, this woman.

Remember one of Alinsky's rules is to use Ridicule as a weapon. This self-important POS needs to be ridiculed.

    (2) "Olympics-2016 Games could be the last, says Tokyo governor, because of Global Warming"!!!!!!!!!

    LOL!

Again, ridicule, ridicule, ridicule these libtards off the planet.
  • @ alabamasatan
"please tell me where the outrage was when last year George W. spent 4 days in China at the Olympics?"

    wha??

Did you sleep through ABC's Olympic diatribes or were you in the predictable blind as a bat liberal stupor?
  • Michelle Malkin
Read her analysis on the cronyism and corruption at stake in Chicago. She lists all the connections of what an Olympics in Chicago will do. Unless you read that, you should shut your mouth and keep your opinions to yourself regarding the importance of this event.
  • Not so fast Neal
Perhaps you should read Michelle Malkin because she notes: "A Chicago Olympics may cost Chicago and Illinois taxpayers billions of dollars because the IOC requires a financial guarantee. It will be a shame if President Obama persuades the IOC to select Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics and the federal taxpayers end up having to pick up the tab."

Get that? Illinois is broke, which means Chicago is broke, so who will be stuck guaranteeing billions of dollars if Chicago is picked? The US taxpayer and you know it.

    I pray Chicago loses.
  • Important stuff huh?
How about we finally stand up to these looters and tell them we DO NOT want a New World Order? How about we stand up to them and DEMAND for a new investigation into 9/11????

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkCos-y-WWM

Oh and btw while we are at it how about we ALL get pissed and DEMAND that these banksters return the $23.7 TRILLON dollars they stole from us. How come we have not DEMANDED that the Federal Reserve show us ALL of their records? How come noone will stand up to these people? I CANNOT believe that as outspoken as alot of you are you do not understand what is really going on in this country. We are being destroyed from the inside and we are continuing to allow it to happen. Honestly at this point we might actually deserve our fate. We have just sat around looking at each other like morons hoping someone will do something. Grrrr...
  • Excuse you Alabamastan
    Criticize something important
The reaction is so predictable. I know people get tired of having Bush put up as a contrasting example (Joyce), but please tell me where the outrage was when last year George W. spent 4 days in China at the Olympics?

Just another example of the knee-jerk reaction that if Obama does it, it must be bad.
    By Alabamastan

That is just ridiculous and shows you haven't really read anything I've posted. If you think I am a Bush fan you're are indeed an idiot.

Just another liberal knee-jerk reaction that everything Obama does MUST be okay.

Get your head outta your a$$!
  • 1936 to 2016
Adolph Hitler hosted the 1936 Olympics...Barry hopes he can host the 2016 Olympics. The only real difference is 70 years and the fact that Barry nailed Poland before the games.

"From tiny ACORNs mighty Marxists (or Facists) grow.)
  • Olymipics
This is really a non issue. If the Windy City gets this, it will open jobs in the area. It is also something of national pride. Remember Jesse Owens giving Hilter a punching Hitler in the mouth by winning 4 gold medals. US Hockey team beating the USSR and winning gold. This is more about Pride for our country.
  • Electioneering
And the campaign that JUST WON'T END keeps going!
  • Criticize something important
The reaction is so predictable. I know people get tired of having Bush put up as a contrasting example (Joyce), but please tell me where the outrage was when last year George W. spent 4 days in China at the Olympics?

Just another example of the knee-jerk reaction that if Obama does it, it must be bad.
  • Important Stuff
Boortz, I think you're a little short-sighted here. Barry is going to tax the rest of us to help Chicago pay for the Olympics. He'll find a way to make sure his buddies don't foot the whole bill should Chicago win something for a change.
  • Not really the problem
My problem isn't with the Olympics, but that fact he can do this, but not meet with McCrystal? Chicago is more important than our men and women in Afghanistan? That's what everyone is upset about.

I think he thought when he became President, it would be a never-ending of parties and fun, but it isn't.

It's time for him to act Presidential, stay in D.C. for some time and do the boring things.

Then again, may be this is the best thing.
  • i wish we could concentrate on important stuff
but instead we've got this Alan Grayson posting on this site day after day. i'm glad you've give ACORN the rest it needs.

there's nothing so important as those two stories. not the collapse of the dollar, not Sibel Edmonds, not COIN, (COUNTERINSURGENCY -- that's me and you). please!!!
  • Olympics
It will cost the tax payers a fortune in added security, the 2 people who will profit from this are Presbo's 2 main advisers.
  • This is important
Obama's visit is important. It illustrates his priorities and what is important to him. He has time to bring press the flesh to bring the Olympic boondoggle to his thug city, but he does not have time to win the war in Afghanistan. You know...the good war!
  • Boortz's Standard Weekly Obama Praise
Yes, in the grand scheme of things, this is no big deal. However, just like the Dems did the last 8 years, we need to hammer this idiot on every single thing - we need to be relentless. Alinsky-style - marginalize and paint a picture of this jerk as a hypocritical, double-standard, out of touch, do as I say not as I do walking Marxist blowhard. After a while, it will stick. For the average moron, ridiculous issues about Bush stuck such as "he was reading My Pet Goat when 9/11 happend for 8 minutes;"Bush is on vacation again while war is going on...". Guess what, that stuck to this day.

This is somewhat of a big deal- perception-wide- when you consider two things going on:

    (1) These Statists are trying to pass the largest tax in US history with cap and trade (err...sorry Pollution Reduction). Meanwhile, as our planet is in near collapse from all that CO2 emission, Michelle and her entourage take a nasty large polluting plane across the ocean yesterday. OBozo takes a SEPERATE plane today!! She couldn't wait an extra day??? What about all of the CO2????

    (2) The General is saying we can't wait a minute longer on Afghanistan, YET, this community organizer can't even find 10 minutes in his "busy" schedule to talk to the General in 3 months???? He can go on 5 talk shows and regurgitate his mindless bumper sticker slogans, go on Letterman, speak to kids, go to useless UN, go to Olympics, etc., but can't talk with the General and hammer out a decision on the war while our soldiers are in peril????

Keep hammering and keep painting this guy for what he is. It will stick.
  • Anything
If anything, I see this as an abuse of power. Using your position to sell a city at taxpayer expense, your hometown, no less, should be addressed.
This should be the government outrage of the day, as you say on your show. I'm glad Boehner did, so now he's on record showing he opposed it.
  • Obama Going To Denmark
It must be cool to be president. You don't have to go through airport security, and no drug dogs get within a mile of you. Obama's got it made, baby!!
  • On the surface no biggy
Till I find out how much "Friends of Obama" are going to make from this little venture. Plus, Chicago is broke. They don't even have government offices open all week. How are they going to pay for all the venues? And the violence they've had in the city lately, I really think Chicago has more important things to take care of.
  • Olympics
You've got to be kidding Neal. It's only going to cost Chicago (what a joke). We have all this unspent stimulus money. What do you want to bet a pantload of it will be directed to Chicago because the Olympics will "help the whole country". Drink your coffee before you write your comments Neal. Remember all Obama's chums who will gain from this.
  • Don't make political hay over non-events; it seems desperate
What's good for Chicago is good for the United States.

Some say, "he should be spending time on the more important issues." Bear in mind he hardly spent any time doing this . . . he flew overnight to Denmark, spent a few hours there, then turned around and came home. And Air Force One has a fully functioning office on board, giving him ample opportunity to work.

As Neal said, this is a non-issue; trying to make political hay out of it defies credibility. Try to score political points on things that matter.
  • Priorities
It's an issue of priorities. Prezbo is showing more concern over a stupid athletic event than our soldiers in Afghanistan. The president is leaving our troops cheese in the wind while he orchestrates deals for his A-hole cronies in Chicago.
  • Confused
Isn't it *greedy* for the USA to host the Olympics as often as it does? Shouldn't America stand for "sharing the wealth" by allowing other countries to host it once in a while? I thought you people thought everyone benefited if you "spread the wealth around", but not in a socialist kind of way.
  • Denmark - Count Your Blessings
If Obama is pressing flesh in Denmark, he's not in DC pushing legislation. Shut up and be grateful.
  • Republicans hate fun
Of course Republicans hate this. The Olympics preach peace, and the new topic republicans of course hate is competition. Give them foxsports and pocket protectors over the olympics any day. Nerds
