CHASING AWAY THE ACHIEVERS

If you want to know how to scare away the achievers, just look to New York as a model. New York has managed to scare away the evil wealthy earners. You won't be surprised to learn that this is costing New York a lot of money. Over one million taxpayers have fled New York City since 2000. That means one out of every seven taxpayers moved out. Now here's an interesting fact. The people who have been bailing out of Manhattan were earning close to $100,000 a year. The people moving in to replace them earn only about $72,000 a year. That difference is the highest of any city or region in the country.

But what the hell ... who needs all those rich people around anyway. So what if they carry the load when it comes to funding government ... once we get more government in our lives we won't need these stupid rich people and their jobs anyway.

What others are saying

  • That's why commies even tell you where you must live.
They'll suddenly discover they can really seal borders after all, to keep their human property from escaping.
  • Invasion of the idiots
The problem with this is that these people who vote for these liberal idiots are running away from the crap they voted for. Now they will arrive to greener lands to vote in another liberal idiot and crap on us too. Stupidity and craving for handouts is not left at the state line when they move south.
  • NY Taxes or Taxes anywhere
I have one simple question: How much money is any entity-whether Federal or State- entitled to confiscate from my income no matter how much money I make? Is it a third, how about a fourth, how about half? What portion of my income is not really mine, but belongs to my neighbors?

And at what point am I allowed to say B*&^ S&*^ and I am out of here? Who decides that because I make X amount per year by the sweat of my brow and my own ingenuity, some one else is entitled to roughly a third of it?

When are people going to wake up? When we penalize those individuals who are creative and ingenious, and produce jobs and wealth, they WILL GO ELSEWHERE! When we create and foster environments that reward economic growth and activity, it creates jobs and spreads wealth and economic prosperity. It’s a Win-Win!

It’s called economic development and it’s as simple as not taxing the hotdog stand guy for placing a cart on the city corner. Someday he may get real busy and put another stand on the other corner and hire two new guys to run it. Two new employees –two new tax payers. All from not taxing a hot dog stand. Very simple, but so much less fun than damning the evil wealthy!
  • Jimmy Dolan is Lane Meyer is Brian Fontana
Could web wench just put a "conservatives are crybabies" post up at the beginning of each comment section to spare us from this brain dead moron? And please people, stop responding to and thereby encouraging him. BTW: yes, all three are the same little preteen boy. Duh.
  • Well Jimmy
splain this: why are tax revenues down so drastically in New York? Much more so than anywhere else and more than could be explained by the average effect of the current economy? Companies are leaving New York, they might keep an office there, but the nuts and bolts are leaving. Last to go will be those offices you point to, cause someone has to be the last to turn out the lights.
  • Fact
This is simply an eons old fact: Never mess with the achievers-period. Clinton learned this the hard way. California, New York, those states that are heavily unionized are learning this lesson now, and Obama will in the future. But then again liberals never learn.
  • You guys are idiots
    (1) liberalhater obviously cannot go against my arguments, what a shock. Enjoy crying

    (2) None of the huge mega businesses are leaving NYC. Some other places might, but NYC is where it all happens for them.
  • @Jimmy
Yes, they are there now because that is where they started during the boom years, but they are going to be moving out in the near future, many have already started to move out.

Look at what is happening in California, they are having to ADVERTISE to try and get people to move to California. Slicon Valley is slowly becoming a ghost town as tech firms pack up and move to more tax friendly states like Nevada.
  • hey paganpost
I agree with your assesment. However, besides losing talent to other countries... Punishing achievement results in less achievement.

The productive people will simply refuse to be productive.

The tangible result of overtaxing citizens and punishing achievement people voting with their feet.

The intangible result is the projects that dont get started, the people that do not get hired, the plant and equipment not purchased, and the factories not built.

    Have a great day everybody.
  • Lamprey Eels
One fact that can't be denied is that wherever the productive segment of society goes, the Lamprey eels that suck on them will be close behind.
That's the problem with achievement in America today. The Jimmy Dolans of this country want the benefits of success without having to perform the effort to achieve it.
Just look at what is happening in Atlanta.
Texas is still relatively immune to the Lamprey eel, but the eels haven't yet figured out how to survive long enough there to get attached.
  • Jimmy Dolan
    Hey Jimmy,
Quit whining before I spray you down with a fire hose, crybaby.
  • rand
atlas shrugged in NYC... good for them
  • It is unclear whether the $72,000 is the salary from their previous state or their new salary in NY. If it is their previous state's salary then it will translate into close to $100k in NY.
  • The NYPD (New York Politician Dwarf)
First of all, my apologies to little people everywhere. Rudy's gone, and Bloomberg has been elf-in-chief for two terms. Rudy was no paragon of virtue, but at least his irresponsibility was predominately limited to his private life. He cleaned up New York, but apparently Bloomie, who has his own set of sordid, personal proclivities, is intent on cleaning OUT New York. Go ahead, New York. Re-elect this bone head.
  • The choices are:
    1. Fight for what you have.
    2. Cut and run.

I'm taking option 1. Hey Butt, in case it doesn't go too well, is there any room in the bunker for 10,000 rounds, 2 cases of "whupass", a rifle and a old guy who knows how to use it?
  • Where are they goining
When this country was WAD (working as designed) these people would move to another state and their talent and abilities were not lost to us as a country. But now where are these people going to go since we have decided that we are a socialist NATION and there is no longer an escape within this country from overbearing, intrusive, overtaxing government?

Under Obama, we are essentially running our best and brightest out of town, and this country is going to regret it. I know liberals out there right now are saying “Yeah, let the greedy, selfish, SOBs leave, who needs them”. Well, you do, because these are the people who actually pay the taxes and start the businesses that make this country work. I’m not just talking about millionaires and billionaires; I’m talking about the people like me, who have highly sought after skills that other countries, countries that are on the rise economically, are willing to pay good money for. And these countries are smart, they see what is going on here in the U.S. and are purposely revamping their tax systems to attract Americans.

Wait and see, it’s been happening with our corporations for years, and it has now started happening with our citizens.
  • Re: snarkybird [from yesterday] “I've answered that one”
Here's the Question Again: How do those who pay no taxes fulfill their responsibility to the collective.

How and where did you answer that?
Again, we're talking about the philosophical question of whether the government has an unlimited claim on your property.

You agreed that it did and that it is a black and white question.

You would like to muddy the waters with a boat load of hokum about tax policies, rebates and payments to SS and Medicaid.

That is why I posed the question with a Yes or No answer.

If the government has an unlimited claim on our property, it can be said that it owns our property (and our time on this earth).

Is your answer still 'Yes' to that question?
  • exit tax
In NJ you are taxed a special tax in order to leave the state, that way they get one last bite out of you for being a resident of the 'garden state'.
  • What?
This doesnt even make sense. IU guess that is why every mega business, financial, entertainment etc. has an office in NYC. Conservatives cannot even cry over logical issues anymore
  • How long before they try to build a wall around New York State?
Punish achievement, and you get less achievement, reward looting and you get more looting.

Punish Achievers and they move out, reward Looters and they move in.
  • Reason why cities collapse
The same thing happened to Philthadelphia. The politicians chased away all the achievers and what you have now is a city of moochers and professional sport thugs.

I think it's funny. The moochers vote for this system, but they can't force people to stay the way the Cuban, Soviet, N. Korean governments can/could. So the evil productive leave and the moochers can sit around in even worse shape with even more power to impose their moronic policies. I say let 'um do it. I don't live in NYC or even NY. If they want to use their Hollywood programming to turn the city into a 3rd world government then I'll sit back and laugh at them. I have no pity for people like this, and I only wish the achievers would abandon that city in even greater numbers.
