Mad as HELL and disappointed
People who watched the news were hoping that a 6 yr old boy would make it through. How many people were already in the process of working out a plan to save the kid and considering taking some extreme risks to reach the balloon before it came down? What if there had been an attempt by someone and they had been injured or worse? American's will do everything they can to save a child,,,,but they also hate scammers. NO jail time! But they should spend a lot of community time and they should pay for the costs of all the emergency services that were engaged.

I watched this unfold live on TV the other day. I don't know who did a worse job of covering it, Shep or the other clown on CNN...both of these "reporters" (and I use that term very loosely) should apply for a job at a local circus. Hey Shep! There's a village in Louisiana missing its idiot! How about applying for the position?
As for the parents, it's not only this hoax that shows poor judgment, but taking their kids out with them while chasing tornadoes doesn't show enough mentality to be allowed to keep those kids. Who knows what else they expose these kids to in the name of "pursuing science". The parents should pursue the art of living in a cement cell for at least a year to think about this whole fiasco. Then bill for all the expenses incurred by the local authorities in the pursuit of this hoax.

Balloon Boy Hoax
I would like to see them have to pay back what it cost the taxpayers and also serve a large amount of community service. Think it would be a waste of even more money just to toss them in jail.
They should be punished but don't take their kids away.
But don't take their kids away. They pulled a hoax that cost the taxpayers a lot of money. This money should be recovered and they should be charged, possibly with some minor crimes. They deserve a very hefty bill. But they did not do anything that warrants having their kids taken from them.
Heck, half the movie stars in Hollywood, should have their kids removed due to neglect. Why don't we go after them.

Until the balloon was on the ground with people around it, no, it was not obvious as there was no way to estimate it's size. I watched TV coverage off and on during the flight and it was only after it landed and I was able to judge the actual size of it that I started having doubts. I wouldn't recommend jail time,(wouldn't be opposed to it either), but would make sure all the expenses related to the hoax were reimbursed.

Why is one second wasted reporting this? Drudge has had this Balloon Idiot story headlined for 5 straight days. I would rather watch paint dry than listen to this story. The ironic thing is the reporting of this story - where Boortz and all the other news stations say that "It was all a hoax to get attention...". Well, his hoax succeeded then, didn't it?, given that it is the #1 news story everywhere.
