What others are saying
What if Hysteria Has Made us all Believe it was a HOAX?
What if it was not a hoax? What if it all happened exactly the way the Heene family told us. Does anyone small smell a lynch mob atmosphere floating up this HOAX notion? Who knows exactly what six year-old Falcon meant? Anyone who has a six year-old knows it is sometimes difficult to understand what the kid is really talking about. Is is possible that all of us smug adults are jumping to conclusions about the kid's understanding of this weird story?
HIGH VOLTAGE?
Listen to what he says about the "high voltage". He turns on the high voltage and it emits one million volts for one minute every five minutes. Does he have a power plant in his garage?
Hmmm...I'm calling it a hoax.
Big Bird to Falcon-Big Bird to Falcon...I smell a rat! I love it when Falcon said "we did it for a show", and then mommy says "no,no", kind of like oh crap! What a sad way to raise your children. And to top it off with a name like Falcon...
Balloon Boy
I think that the little boy was acting just like that - as a little boy. Parents how many times have your kids done something completely misunderstanding what you wanted and then, like all kids do, accidentally throw you under the bus because they didn't understand what you wanted to do in the first place.
I think the parents were genuinely scared and fearful that their son was in danger. I think the boy thought he was helping his dad out until he heard his dad yelling. To which he responded by hiding.
If the family must be punished - make them pay for half or more. But please don't forget, you can't always control what your kids say.
I think Falcon is a cool name better than some name being used
Uh der...
They named the kid Falcon for Pete's sake.
That in and of itself constitutes abuse.
Hippies.
I swear.
BalloonBoy, definitely hoax
Sick freak UFOlogist parents, UFO freaks are always hungry for publicity and attention above all else, as THESE parents have now shown over and over and over again. They should be billed $$ Hundreds fo Thousands $$ for teh rescue efforts and Denver airport flight delays.
The whole thing smells to high heaven.
1) The father has to know after all his experimentation and weatherman/science training, that the balloon that size could never carry a 50 pound payload
2) Where is the 'box' the kid was supposedly in under the balloon with a door? There is no such box in the photos of the craft before it launched. It is exactly the same on the ground before it launched, as what landed. And the dome/fill circular area is part of the gas , the old man knows his kid would never survive more than a minute or two breathing helium!
3) UFO freaks like this Dad, love publicity above all else including money. They will do anything to get it, including misusing children. Kind of like mothers who injure their children so they can get attention and sympathy in Manuchusen by proxy syndrome. UFO freaks will do anything for publicity.
gas...
what about the part where the kid farts??
well it must be...............................
name a kid falcon??????? well his mothers name is........
twinkletwinkledaisyrainbowsunshinebeam.....does that help????
Catseye,....
We're pissed because of the taxpayer money wasted on these yokels!!!
@BD in SC
We're also highly successful at branding you as idiotic; you would need to be in order to actually believe that kid was ever in the balloon.
If it was a hoax (which I think is the case), social services needs to check out this family. And if it wasn't a hoax, social services should check out the family anyway if the kid was hiding in a box in the attic for 6 hours because his dad yelled at him.
well....................
now here is what I think.......huh?....
now if they (who the hell is they?) called the cops or other energency services the parents (is they they?) should have to pay for those services....
if they (there they are again) didn't call then what did they (oh stop it) do wrong????
who did what to whom????? oh I luv them new pills.......
RANDY!!!! quit touchin' yo' sister like that.....let me show you.......
Punked
The media was fooled.
Balloon swap
If it was a hoax I think the parents should be stuffed into the balloon and sent into the air. The media could cover it like they did and the public can take free pop-shots at the balloon if so desired.
Mythbusters tests
Greg P.: You're correct about the lift capability. When the Mythbusters tested such a claim, it took over 3,000 balloons to get a 4 year old airborne. http://mythbustersresults.com/episode21 To get an adult airborne required 16 weather balloons. http://mythbustersresults.com/pilot3 A six-year old on one (1) single weather balloon--not likely.
Hoax
My gut tells me its a hoax, that these folks are addicted to media attention like OJ Simpson. Poor Falcon doesn't have a chance of being normal.
Irresponsible or Selfish?
If it wasn't a hoax the parents are terribly irresponsible. If it was a hoax than they are terribley selfish, media attention hungry loons.
Either way the kids lose! Send in DEFAX.
you guessed it.....................
damn bush!!!!!!
Balloon boy
Dont know if hoax or not, but remember the media and Richard Jewell.
Too much pub
The news outlets spend WAY too much time on this story. Must have been a slow news day. And not one reference to the 5th Dimension. Sad.
Balloon boy
As a mom of two boys, I would ask a few questions first before I brought the whole county in to look for him. I would ask, would that mylar weather balloon be able to lift off with a 48 pound? boy in it and who undid the tether - it had to be held down by something.
So predictable
Having once been a 6-year-old boy myself, the moment I heard that no one was inside the grounded balloon I KNEW they would find the boy hiding someplace. He had been scolded for playing with the ballon earlier in the day, so he decided to let it go and then realized he was in deep sh!t. I would have hid too...
But the background of these people (of which I was unaware until now) does leave room for suspicion that the whole thing was staged.
I'm a little surprised...
At the majority of the comments here. The kid is 6 years old! The poor fella was so nervous he threw up in an interview this morning and you grouchy SOBs want to make the case he conspired with his father for some media time? It's no wonder the libtards are so successful at painting us all as not caring. I felt bad for them when it looked like he might have fallen, and I felt elated when he was found alive. When I was 5 I had a similar experience and it scared the crap out of both of us. Get a life people! Where is the joy that he is OK?
Hoax
If it turns out to be a hoax the people responsible should go to jail. If they set this up for publicity then i believe the children could be in danger. There is no telling what these people will do for "air time"
100% fabricated
I can look at that guys haircut and tell he's FOS.
Attention whore.
WHAT
Who in the heck names their kid Falcon anyway. White people are getting just as ridiculous as black folks with the kid names.
Grumpy old men (and women) here
Whether it was a hoax or not, it is a "fun" story that has drama and humor and science fiction. Why are so many of you posting here all dour and grumpy about it? There is room in this world for both the serious stories as well as the "pop culture" stories. If you want "all serious, all the time", read the Financial Times or watch the PBS NewsHour.
I think I know why you are grumpy: It is a nonpartisan story . . . your friends at Fox News covered it start to finish, as did your nemeses MSNBC and CNN. You come here for your daily dose of Obama bashing, and here's one news story that has nothing to do with politics.
And, yeah, OK, fine, a few police officers spent a couple of hours on this chase, so fine, make the family reimburse local law enforcement. Maybe it was a good thing to get a few cops out of the doughnut shops and away from running their speed traps.
Bush's Fault
This had to be Bush's fault. It was the only thing he could think of to keep Obama off the TV news.
Why did Wolf Blitzer not follow up on the comment from the boy about doing this for the show?
Am I the only one that noticed the kid started puking his guts out everytime they asked him what he meant by a "show"?
I call shenanigans. I mean, the family was on wife swap TWICE. Ugh.
Hoax
Smelling like old fish. No doubt Cheney and Scooter Libby had a hand in this chicanery.
The Heene family should get a hefty bill for this
Whether this was a hoax or not, this search and rescue attempt probably cost millions of dollars. The Heene family should get a very hefty bill for their "experiment". They are the only ones to blame for building this balloon, not keeping an eye on their kid, not securing this contraption properly, or carrying out these "mad scientist" type experiments.
Let's not simply stick it to the taxpayers again. And let Richard Heene learn that when his experiments go haywire, there are financial consequences.
Biggest. Letdown. Ever.
I was frankly pissed when there was no kid in the balloon. While it was happening I couldn't stop laughing.
Then it turns out it was all a sham. I'm mad for laughing at nothing! This story would have been much better with a near to tragic ending.
You guys are idiots
I only paid attention to this story about 30 seconds last night. Why? Because I immediately figured out that there must have been NOTHING else in the world going on
Dumbing of America continued....
Haven't any of these people ever played with a helium balloon? Surely they should have known that this balloon wasn't large enough to lift the weight of a 6 year old boy. Surely the helicopter pilots chasing it knew. What are they teaching in schools nowdays? I can't believe the pure ignorance demonstrated by most of the statements surrounding this story.
Falcon???
Who the hell names their kid Falcon?
people mag.
I am sure this with be all over people mag next week.
Reality TV bites
Obvious hoax. What "show" did they do this for? The nightly news? Why doesn't the media do their background checks BEFORE going hours into this kinda coverage? They would have known this family were reality TV hounds. Oh wait, they say they wouldn't put that kinda programming on the "idiot box" if they didn't have idiots to watch it. Keep letting the television tell you what to do and how to think, America. When does restitution begin so the authorities that helped look for their crumb cruncher get paid back for this hoax?
Balloon boy.
I think the kid and his brother got in WWAAAYYY over their heads on this one.
My guess is the parents bought it at first and then realized part way in that the boy was at home and kept the ruse going.
It was an interesting diversion, anyway.
you're kidding?
I hadn't even thought it might be, why would they do something like that?
Balloon Boy
I thought it might be real at first, then I read about the parents and their background.
I think they are a bunch of loons.
I vote attention getting hoax to further their ridiculous personal attention getting agenda at the time and expense of citizens.
I would sentence each parent to 240 hours of community service to pay back the time and $5000 for the expenses.
Falcion is a republican
All the cable news channels cut away from Obama speaking in New Orleans in order to cover balloon boy. A brilliant plot to knock the president off the air.
Whats it matter
This story has no relevance or importance right now except to mabye the town it happened in. Should not been on national news. lame lame lame....must been slow news day
hoax
this thing reeked from moment one.
Only question is, was it just the kids who dreamed this up, or did they have some adult guidance.
Hoax
Sounds like they did it "for the show" as the boy stated. The father got very flustered after that and didn't address the response he made about "the show".
