"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."

There's always the chance that a caller-more-brilliant-than-I will come up with a surprising story .. .and we'll go off on a tear; or there could be some amazing breaking news (Obama singing the praises of freedom, for instance) .. but right now these are some of the things that are on my radar for today's show:
George Will is telling you in a column this week what I've been telling you for five years ... give the Democrats control in Washington and they'll make so many Americans dependent on government that they'll never lose that control again.
Democrats are moving the some of the costs of ObamaCare off the books to protect Obama's pledge not to raise our deficit one cent to pay for his government takeover of health care
Obama has professed his fondness of Communist student groups and Marxist professors while in college. He appointed an avowed communist to be his "Green Jobs Czar." Now we learn that Anita Dunn, the White House Communications Director has a favorite philosopher .. a Communist responsible for the murder of 70 million people.
Balloon Boy. Actually, the story tag should be "Balloon Man." I just love the way the kid exposed this fool on national television.
It really is looking like there's some pretty strong cheating going on amongst the administrators of some Georgia government schools. You just can't get these one-year improvements in test scores any other way.
Ann Compton from ABC News actually agrees with me! It should be called the "government option," not the "public option."
It was a really big deal in the media when we found out that the Republicans made some fashion choices for Sarah Palin. Now we find out the Obama White House did the same with Justice Sotomayor. This time, though, it's not really a big deal in the media. Now why would that be?
$1.42 Trillion. That's the deficit for the last fiscal year. Does that figure mean anything to anyone?
Thanks, President Obama, for making this job so easy.
Democrats aren't waiting to pass ObamaCare. The destruction of our system of health care in this country is already underway.
Because it's effective, that's why. I'm really enjoying this orchestrated Obama Administration attack on Fox News. It's the same old story line ... Fox News is biased. And it's the same old flawed story line. To prove bias these leftists continually invoke the name of Hannity, O'Reilly or Beck. These, in case you haven't figured it out, are opinion shows.
During the presidential campaign I challenged my listeners to come up with an example of biased reporting in any of the NEWS content on Fox News. They couldn't.
The left is so accustomed to controlling the media they just can't stand it when someone strays off the reservation.. and does it with such devastating effectiveness. Remember, Fox News has ratings way and above those of CNN. It's no wonder the left is upset.
Barack Obama and the White House have decided that their $787 billion economic stimulus bill has been a success. How do they figure?? They base this on the fact that as many as a quarter of the jobs that have "saved or created" are government school teachers.
The chief economic advisor for Joe Biden says that recent data shows that at least 250,000 educational jobs have been saved or created. Oddly enough, no one has actually SEEN this report. The Republicans point out that 250,000 jobs were lost last month alone and 3 million have been lost since the economic stimulus bill was signed. But don't slow us down with the facts! Let's celebrate that we have done exactly what we wanted to do: get more people on the government payroll. After all, folks, remember that these teachers are nothing more than glorified government bureaucrats. They are paid by the government, report to the government, abide by government regulations to fulfill their jobs requirement ... they are government employees.
So we spend $787 billion to provide pork barrel projects and hire more government workers. That sounds like stimulus to me!
Keep in mind that data released last week by the federal government found that federal contracts paid for with stimulus money created or saved 30,383 jobs. That is not a lot of jobs, folks. In fact, the White House at one point had a goal of saving or creating 3.5 million jobs over two years. There is a pretty big gap between 30,000 and 3.5 million, wouldn't you say? So when in doubt, emphasize the fact that you kept the government school teachers around and hope that Americans are too ignorant to realize that the darn thing isn't working.
And while we're at it .. you do know this whole "created or saved" thing is a crock, don't you? There is no way the government can accurately tell you how many jobs have been "saved" by stimulus spending. What we have here is the local governments telling the federal government "Oh yeah! Thanks for the money! If it hadn't been for that money we would have fired a bunch of people!" Hogwash. This is nothing but a transparent PR scam designed to convince the public that this stimulus plan is working. Try to get some private business to talk about jobs saved
Last week we had the story about the apartment complex in Oregon that wouldn't allow American flags on its property. Luckily ... and after a lot of pressure ... the apartment complex finally came to its senses. But now we have this story out of Chester, Pennsylvania. James Krapf has been a firefighter for 11 years. Last week he was suspended without pay because he refused to peel a sticker of the American flag from the door of his locker.
The department decided to implement a new rule that all stickers and statements be removed from lockers because they could be deemed "racist" or "offensive." Apparently the new rule was put in place after someone posted an "offensive" cartoon on a locker.
So last week, everyone removed paraphernalia from their lockers. But when it came to the American flag sticker, Krapf refused to remove it. The Fire Commissioner insisted that he follow the new policy, also insisting that it is not about the symbolism of the American flag ... that was not the issue.
This is 21st Century America under Barack Obama. You can't even put the American Flag on your locker at a fire department. Maybe if we replaced the Stars and Stripes with the Obama "O" it would be better.
I've been arguing for years that our tax dollars are being flushed down the toilet fighting this ridiculous, asinine War on Drugs.
So the Obama administration issued new legal guidelines yesterday, and guess what? I actually agree with him! This is for all of you who give me this line about "You are against EVERYTHING Obama says or does." Not true. I am against stupidity, and often times that comes cloaked under the guise of government.
But back to these guidelines ... federal drug agents will no longer pursue pot-smoking patients or suppliers in states that allow medical marijuana. Justice Department officials say, " ... it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law." Ghee, ya think?? This should have been a no-brainer, folks.
So which are the lucky states? Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
As an aside ... how many of you think I might have used a little weed to handle the pain after my knee surgery? Just wondering.
By the way, my hatred for our War on Drugs is not based purely on the fact that I like to stir the puddin'. There is evidence and studies to support the fact that legalizing or decriminalizing drugs can actually been a good thing. Take Portugal, for example. Back in 2001 it decided to decriminialize all drugs, including cocaine and heroin. There was no spike in usage. There was no public health crisis. In fact, the rate of drug usage is less in Portugal than it is compared to other European nations. The CATO Institute can give you all the hairy details.
The Community Reinvestment Act is back ... but disguised as a different animal. This report should scare the tar out of you. From the Hill:
The Obama administration launched a new initiative Monday aimed at supporting affordable mortgages, backed by the federal government.
Several cabinet agencies announced a new program to provide assistance to state housing financing agencies (HFAs), administered in part by the government-run Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac companies.
The U.S. departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD), along with the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), will allow state financing agencies to issue new bonds, while Freddie and Fannie will provide the state funds with credit lines, which the federal government will backstop.
The program puts the government in the interesting role of using Fannie and Freddie, which were taken into conservatorship last year in the midst of the mortgage crisis, of administering the credit lines to the state agencies.
Administration officials maintained Monday that the program would not mirror those from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the late 1990s that inflated the mortgage market, saying the state agencies would be more judicious about lending to subprime borrowers.
Government does not learn from mistakes. Government and politicians profit from mistakes. Yet another difference between the government and the private sector.
Senator Jim Inhofe reminds us: No matter how many times Congress debates it, and no matter how environmentalists couch it, cap-and-trade will do virtually nothing to stop global warming.
The Obama administration has come up with a brilliant way to implement another stimulus package: just don't call it a stimulus package and people will never even know!
Barack Obama's stimulus plan subsidizes .... golf carts? Yep. Those are your tax dollars.
This article from Forbes says that the stimulus bill may be worse than the health care bill when it comes to its effect on our federal deficit.
Iran vows to seek revenge, claiming that a bombing attack of the Revolutionary Guard was carried out by terrorists trained by America and Britain.
This sounds about right for government .... the Energy Department has concluded in an internal audit that it does not properly track whether manufacturers that give their appliances an Energy Star label have met the required specifications for energy efficiency.
