WHAT CAN RUSSIA DO FOR YOU?

Russia really seems to be making the rounds lately. Not only did it gets its way with this missile defense shield, but it is also working on a new project: hooking up Hugo Chavez with nuclear capabilities.

Sounds like yet another threat to worry about ... and the Russians are right in the middle of it.

Hugo Chavez announced that Venezuela and Russia have created an atomic energy commission. Russia will help to "bridge the gap" and provide funding, technology and expertise so that Hugo Chavez can join the nuclear energy club.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican of Florida points out that Russia's plans to sell Venezuela arms and nuclear cooperation, "create an eerie sense that the history of Iran's Russia-backed military and nuclear buildup is repeating itself almost identically in Venezuela."

But don't you feel safer now that Barack Obama is in the White House. At least we know he isn't going to antagonize Russia. When the Russian Bear says "frog," Obama will jump. When the Russian Bear says "jump," Obama will ask "how high?"

stick our noses where they don't belong...right?

RIGHT!!!! i think that's what our founding father envisioned. If you don't like our founding fathers or their attitudes about alliances, you hate america ....get the F*!k out!
  • Doc!!!
    i don't like our country
but i do love our country. S.F and Joyce M/Blythe, who do you get your news from? i guess you believe everything they tell you.

i bet you like the country georgia? Georgia is ranked as only "partly free" and slipping backward by the US-based democracy watchdog Freedom House.

National elections last year were flawed. In 2007, antigovernment protesters were violently dispersed. Georgia has made progress fighting corruption, but its courts are still far from independent.
within days of Joe Biden leaving Georgia, uniformed thugs were kidnapping and torturing opposition activists once again.

bet you didn't see that in any news programs.

You know I get my info from a lot of different places, but we know you have a dislike of just about everything.

However, what you said above has nothing to do with Chavez and how he came to power. Does Georgia excuse it? No. Does our own voting issues excuse it? No.

But he certainly does not deserve ANY support from you or anyone else. Did you read his speech? I find that very disturbing.
  • Carlos
you're right there. i'd heard it called Banker-Military-Industrial-Pharma Complex.

    :O)
  • Todd
i meant that a small, weak country was telling a large, powerful country to f@@k off. OK!!!! :o)
  • t-doc reply
Sounds to me like you believe everything YOU read. Since you dont like it here in the good ol US of A, i here they need some freedom fighters in Georgia. At least thats what i hear anyway. Nevermind, according to you we are not supposed to stick our nosses where they dont belong...right???
  • New strategy: Close our eyes, cover our ears, and hope for the best
I would love to see Ron Paul or another like minded Libertarian in charge of the country's domestic policies... but I think we need a less naive approach towards foreign policy.

At this point in time do you really think that if we brought every last one our troops home that the rest of the world would leave us alone? You really think the 'death to the infidel' types would simply put down their arms and play nice? If so, you're beyond reasoning with...

  • re. Tshirt-doctor.com
There is no more co-dependent relationship between government and the private sector than that between Washington and Wall Street. Remember "Too Big to Fail?"
Screw small business that employs most Americans.
Kind of makes Eisenhower's Military-Industrial Complex pale in comparison.
  • call me krazy........................
ohhhhhhhh say can you see..... by the dawns early light........

when there was a soviet union.....they were our best enemy ever.......between us we kept the world in check......if some lil' piece o' crap acted up one of us would smack 'em wit' a great big shower shoe......

RONALD WILSON REAGAN.....I like him....broke their bank and now looka what we got........of course I could be krazy......

Tshirt.....let's go burn one....you seem to be wound up tight, you been talkin' to IVAN???......I'm gonna bring THAT BLACK GUY.....he's been away from the ganja too long....
  • to t-shirt
I agree America has been taxing Venezuela with out representation for years now! Our relationship with Venezuela is exactly like the one America had with England 233 years ago. Where the hell did you get your education?
  • yup you got you
and we haven't gotten foulplay in any of our elections? people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

the reason we won't have a libertarian president is the wall street bankers don't want it to be done. and whatever them bankers want, gets done.
i'm glad that you admit that you have blinders on. the next step is to take them off.
  • @T-bag dr.
You really hate your country dont you? Do you even know what the term Dictator means? Maybe you and Hugo are buds and you believe averything he tells you. If you dont like our country....get the F*!k out!
  • the answer to da kwestion............
well you axed me soooooooo.......they can lower the price of vodka.......wellll you axed......
  • my analogy s@@ks
don't over complicate my analogies. it makes you to anal. :O)
  • Doc!
Elected? Yeah, real honest election there, shutting down the media, taking rights away from land owners. Yep, I want him to run our country!

    oh wait...
  • yup you got me
yup, that's it, I'm just wearing blinders and there was no foulplay in any of his elections or anything.

Foreign policy is the reason you'll never see a Libertarian in the White House. We don't live in a fairytale land where everyone abides by the golden rule. Face it, there are people on this earth that don't act based on reason or logic. There are people that want to see us dead.
  • Rullivan
he was elected, so i guess he IS just looking out for his citizen's best interests.

if he's not, how can you assume our elected leaders are looking out for our best interests?

of course, you are just one of those brainwashed sheeples. HE'S A DICTATOR, because i been told that!! my own country wouldn't lie to me.
  • US and Britain
233 years ago, the colonies were ruled by Britain, and they had troops here to keep us in line.

Your analogy sucks. It would work if we weren't British subjects and they stationed a couple platoons in Canada.
  • Hugo Chavez
yup T-shirt, I'm sure Chavez really a great guy and he's just looking out for his citizen's best interest. Aren't all dictators?
  • Russia is our friend
Just because they lost the cold war, converted to a capitalist economy, and are now awash in petro dollars, doesn't mean that the Russians harbor resentments towards the US. The Russians have learned their lesson and only seek what is good and wholesome for America.
Hogwash. Any student of history can tell you that Russia is and has always been a rabidly nationalistic nation with an inferiority complex. How scary is that, Lane Meyer?
  • Hugo Chavez
Venezuela is reminding me of our country some 233 years ago. back then we were telling the british to f@@k off and die. nowadays Venezuela has told us to f@@k off and die.

its funny how our role's has been reversed.

i think that the repeating thing is US and north korea. because we've increased our troop levels in columbia, it gives hugo an excuse to buy more arms from russia. with good reason.
what would you do when the world's only super power (military) moved troops into an area next to yours? i'm sure that he wants to protect his citizens.
  • Lane, that was stupid
    I definiteley feel safer
Obama has gone a week longer than Bush did in office without an attack on America. So, I guess democrats not only care more about American people, but care more about protecting America. I guess Obama actually listens to Intelligence.
    By Lane Meyer

9/11 planners had been working on that for a lot longer than anyone had ever heard of Bush and it was Clinton who failed stopping this on many occasions.

And listening to intelligence (the same intelligence community weakened by Carter btw) is what got us looking for wmd's in Iraq.

    Careful what you wish for!

Qwerty you assume honor among thieves, er, I mean socialists. Chavez has said in a speech, that the American Empire needs to be crushed and put Russia in it's place.

Here's a rough translation for ya:

  • Right wing contradicting itself
If Obama is as "socialist" as y'all claim he is, then why would Venezuela or Cuba want to attack us?

The fact is, since Obama took office, global public opinion of the U.S. has improved significantly. And that's about the best thing that can happen in terms of national security: If people and governments don't hate you, they are less likely to do you harm. And it might save billions in military spending too.
  • Georgia
    The 'Republic of' that is.

I suspect Russian tanks will find their way back into Georgia and this time they won't leave.

    We have essentially capitulated.
  • A theory
Last night I listened to Michael Savage and there was this one minute where he wasn't talk about himself and he used that minute to describe a theory. He said Obama may have made an agreement with the Russians to allow Israel to attack Iran if the US abandons its missile shield.

Of course this theory only works if you believe that Obama was looking out for Israel, and to me that sounds ridiculous.

Oh, wait, while Savage was talking about this theory he was bragging about how smart he was for coming up with it. So I guess in that minute he was still talking about himself.
  • Just like old times
Does anyone else remember Jimmy Carter and his fiasco, I feel history is again repeating itself with oblama and Co.
What a mess, says one thing then sells out the next minute. Liberals are even worried about this obomination lol.
    Semper Fi
  • Commoner
No offense, but the closest thing to a realistic statement in that post was when you spelled 'Venezuela' wrong.
  • So I suppose
It's ok for everyone to antagonize us?

    This is stupid.

So tell us Commoner, why won't Chavez get close to being nuclear?
  • A new era of missle "crisis"
Is America being deliberately placed in a weak position to be exploited?

If the Cuban missle crisis were to happen tomorrow, do you seriously believe Obama and his administration could keep America safe?

    ...and Kennedy endorsed this man?
  • Never happen
Venzuela will never get close to being nuclear capable.

When the Russian Bear says "frog," Obama will jump. When the Russian Bear says "jump," Obama will ask "how high?" This is just an asinine comment. Former President Bush's foriegn policy was an 8 years of mostly mistakes. The world is globally linked and you can't antagonize everyone.
  • Don't forget...
...Cuba. A strategic arms partnership between Russia and Venezuela will also draw in and benefit our neighbor 90 miles south of Key West, Florida.
