This is a story that keeps on giving.

A lot of you have your thongs in a square knot over the fact that Barack Obama will be addressing school children next week. Some schools have decided that they are not going to show the speech. Others will require parent permission. But you parents are pretty upset. You're upset with me as well because I'm not all that upset. All I'm saying is to give the speech a chance. This really is a win-win situation for conservatives. If he says something that suggests "indoctrination," then conservatives can nail him. If he says something worthwhile, then what harm could it really do?

Question: What type of kool-aid do they serve in the green rooms of MSNBC? Have you been listening to these people? No wonder Dr. G and her bolt cutters have a bigger audience. Here's the latest example of MSNBC idiocy: Keith Boykin appeared on MSNBC yesterday to discuss this presidential address to students. Boykin says, "So much of the debate about President Obama has been politicized in an effort by some to delegitimize his presidency ... This is clearly much ado about nothing. We're talking about the President of the United States speaking to school kids. Why wouldn't schools want this to happen?"

Ok, I can agree with him so far. But then he goes on to say, "That's why our kids are so dumb today, because they don't want to have basic common sense in the classroom." Hey Keith, maybe our children are "so dumb today" because we send them to the government to be educated. Ever think about that?

What others are saying

  • POTUS is gonna FOC'US all
I just read the speech and I think it's fine for delivery to school children.

If the speech were not available beforehand, then I would not let my kids go because Obama is inherently anti-American & anti-capitalist. I don't want my kids indoctrinated with any of his "rightful owners" crap.

It's a moot point, since our school district isn't going to assemble the students for the speech.

It will be interesting to see, however, how closely Obama sticks to the script.
  • Honor the office of POTUS
I strongly believe that all US presidents should be broadcast in schools for our children to hear. This is our President, to be accorded all honor and respect due the office of the President of the United States -- regardless of party, gender, religion, political agenda or shoe size.

For decades, the words of our presidents have been broadcast to school children. They've delivered their message over radio and television in times of both war and peace. They've spoken words of anger, sympathy, reassurance, confession and resignation. They have made bold promises, and appealed to our sense of responsibility for this country. When we listen together, it is unifying. We are all Americans, regardless of party. The President speaks to us all.

Throughout the 20th century, whether by newspaper, radio, TV or internet, students have followed current events in the classroom. Students learned immediately when President Kennedy was assassinated. They watched the Watergate hearings in 7th grade civics; saw Nixon's announcement of the end of the Vietnam War, and saw funeral coverage of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Students in the classroom were exposed to highly politicized issues such as desegregation and the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War protests, and the Cold War. Students sat at desks or crowded around TVs and watched in pride as mankind first walked on the moon, held their breath as Apollo 13 overcame great danger to return to earth, and saw the Challenger fall prey to that danger. Within the past 25 years, our presidents have spoken directly to our children about the dangers of drugs, the importance of literacy, and the need for exercise.

Considering how many classrooms broadcast the OJ Simpson trial -- a televised event of almost no academic worth -- I am absolutely appalled that anyone would consider censoring a presidential speech about the value of education.
  • Not happening in South Texas.
I thought it was "What you can do for your country", not what you can do for your president. Anyway, down here in South Texas so many parents complained about the speech that it has been officially canceled in several smaller isd's outside of San Antonio. Our school counceler did not even know about it Wednesday morning until I asked her if there was a opt out for Sept. 8, if not, my kids would have the obama flu.
  • Seriously,
If you've got your panties in a bunch because the president is speaking to government school children, then why is your child in a government school?
  • Change you can chew on
Where does it say in the constitution that it is the presidents responsibility to give a speech to our kids? I'd like to know how many pep speeches he has give our men and women fighting for this country..on the front line or in the hospital?? I thought parents were the speech givers to their children...not the goverment? We would be much better off if we had just a little less goverment in our life. They want their hand in your pocket and pat little Timmy's head at the same time.Dosent PrezBo have better things to take care of...just sayin'
  • limp wristed
Hey dummies, how many presidents have given speeches to children with government directed "activities" designed to endear this dictator? Stop licking bootrs boots and educate yourself.
  • MSNBC - the liberal new network
Sometimes I watch MSNBC just to see the opposite viewpoint. I imagine that 1/3 to 1/2 their viewers are probably Foxnews viewers. It just seems so one-sided to watch MSNBC. At least Fox sometimes has people with the opposite viewpoint. Last night Rachael Maddow was so happy that Hillary is cutting off funding to Honduras because of Zelaya being thrown out saying it was a military coup and not explaining the truth why he was thrown out. Keith Olbermann was making fun of Glenn Beck talking about the symbolism in the Art in New York City buildings but didn't discredit any of it, but rather just acted like Glenn Beck is an idiot. I didn't see anything Van Jones being a 9/11 truther.
  • re Tina
Remember, the US Government also spent millions to send out letters telling us that we would be getting a tax rebate check in the mail soon. Uhm, ok, I think when I got the check I would have figured it out...
  • re snarky
Well, I for one am not obsessing about the speech. I think the real issue is that the system is still in need of some help. I'm better off than I was 50 years ago, but I think that has a lot to do with me, what I'll "settle" for and how hard I make it work for me and my family.

Just wish they would teach THAT in school. Lord knows there are absentee parents out there and THAT doesn't help, either.

Thanks for keeping an open mind. Good things to think about.
  • @Brian
/First, my child is not anyone's political pawn./

No one's asking them to be. However it seems like millions are willing to be the pawns of a few right wingers.

/The "dirty work" is done beforehand: "how can you help the president/

You mean like we did back in school when we wrote reports on how we could help President Nixon/Ford/Carter with the issue of the moment. We even wrote ourselves letters. None of this is new and certainly not sinister.

/conservatives wind up looking like whack jobs./

No they won't, because it's not conservatives that are getting all riled up over this. Its the right wing that will look like whack jobs, but that's an everyday thing for them.

/I wouldn't mind her hearing from a scientist, mathematician, famous author, doctor, or lawyer./

That's career day, we used to have those.

/relatively few people trust the President./

More people trust this President than the previous one. Most people have a healthy distrust of any politician.
  • speech
The Georgia Department of Education writes on their website that they were bypassed in the notification process. School principals were contacted directly about the speech - by letter. Did the White House use tax dollars to mail letters to thousands of schools? Wouldn't it have been more prudent to broadcast this speech in the evening and not spend taxpayer money or steal instruction time from students? I will send my kids to school on Tues., but will have them opt out on viewing the speech. We will watch it at home together.
  • Trust & Missing the Obvious!
First, after watching this president during his first eight months in office, I just don’t TRUST him. I believe that’s why there is such a visceral response to his intrusion into our children’s classroom. Many people just do not trust the message he will deliver will be apolitical. After all, Mr. Obama has not yet stopped campaigning.

The uproar this has caused has been beneficial in that the administration has changed the “curriculum” they originally published to be less obviously Obama-centric. Still, I do not TRUST him. My distrust is not abated by the simple fact that the White House states they will release the text of his speech on MONDAY; the day before presentation. This speech was already written. Why has it not already been released to allay the fears of many parents? I would guess it’s because the uproar has caused the White House to rewrite the speech and change its original orientation. Kudos to parents across our great nation. I would really love to know what was in the original speech. If the speech is as innocuous as the White House says it is, it would be easy write in, say, 20 or 30 minutes. Every athletic coach from little league to the pros seem to be able to render a motivational speech without speechwriters and teleprompters.

And the obvious does not escape me. Three years from now as we approach the 2012 elections, tens of millions of this year’s 9th thru 12th graders will be eligible to vote in their first presidential election. Like I said, the president has not stopped campaigning. I suspect he viewed this speech as an opportunity to begin tilting our inexperienced youth into his camp. I know our liberal friends on this board may find this possibility incredulous, but I think it entirely likely after observing this man for the past two years. Like I said, I don’t TRUST him!
  • form your own
heeeey!!!ya'll can form your own skool system(at home) get your friends and neighbors(wit' chillin') to do the work required and then.......skool da hell outa them.....

I grad-gee-eighted way back in the 60's from a private college just a lil' south of s.f ca.......the school systems were pretty good back then....

so get bizy....I say this 'cuz 9.7% of ya'll is outa werk.......you got the time......
  • Moderate Man
"...the right wing nuts will look back at their antics and be utterly embarrassed about their juvenile and ill-advised hyperpartisan over-reaction."

No they won't. It happens time and again that whatever they're waving their arms about doesn't turn out they way they warn and they just run to the next non-issue to go berzerk over.
  • Obama ok - Teachers ?
I'm with Neal on this one. If PrezBO politicizes this conservatives will have such a fit kids will be hearing about it 50 years from now.

It's the darn teachers we need to keep our eyes on! My daughter unfortunately goes to a fairly liberal government school (ya, sucks but that's the situation we're in. no decent charters around here), they already take to many liberties with history. (I never heard anything about the Japs trying to surrender before the 2nd bomb, have any of you?)
  • The Speech
First, my child is not anyone's political pawn.

Second, Obama doesn't _have_ to say anything indoctrinational (coined word!). The "dirty work" is done beforehand: "how can you help the president..." Tuesday, he can just say "Hi Kids, I hope you have a great day. Thanks for your attention." and call it a wrap. The MSM will wonder what all the hullabaloo was about, and the conservatives wind up looking like whack jobs.

Third, if you leave a door open, eventually something unwelcome is going to come through it.

Fourth, my kids at school to learn how to read, express herself, understand mathematics, etc. I wouldn't mind her hearing from a scientist, mathematician, famous author, doctor, or lawyer.

The problem is that relatively few people trust the President. And for good reason, as his presidency plays out.
  • Not so outraged.
I would never send my child to the government to be educated, so it is not really an issue for me either way. However, I do not really understand what is so outrageous about the President of the United States addressing the students of the government of the United States. It follows a certain degree of logic that the leader of the executive branch of our government would at some point address the young minds that the government molds. I worry more about what the teachers in these government schools teach our children on a daily basis than I do about one man speaking to them for 30 minutes. The good thing about all of this is that parents seem to be more aware of the poison these children absorb on a daily basis. Perhaps this will make people push harder for vouchers.
  • Another thing to consider
Another thing these parents better consider before keeping their kids out of school just because the "man on the radio" has filled their heads with all kinds of conspiracy theories.

Kids can only miss so many days before they fail a grade. If they skip that day, then have to miss more days because of illness or some other reason, and end up with one absence too many how will these parents feel then? Do they hate Obama so much that it's worth risking their children failing a grade?
  • VOR Of COURSE you blame the right wing
Hell it couldn't have been the original version of his speech that asked the kids to write letters on how they were going to help "him"!

It's been toned down now, so it might be ok. I still believe ANY politician should submit their text to the schools in advance.

Obama has given us plenty to worry about with all his talk about Civilian Defense Forces as powerful as the military, making 9/11 a "Day of Service" and other such platitudes. Michelle's little speech of "Obama wont let you...". Excuse me?

So yeah, it's a little nerve racking.

Hey, what Bush bashing did you ever speak up against?
  • Not for my kids...
There are simply some people that you would never in a million years allow to talk to or be around your kids.....for me, Barack Obama is one of them. So why would I want to subject my kids to have to sit under a speech by him in the captive audience of a classroom?
  • do you 'member the movie..........................
    ok....any of ya'll remember a clockwork orange??

    here's what we do......make neal watch osamabama.....volume up to max....eyes wide open.....watch..... rewind.....repeat......
  • the weather balloon popped
The original wording (now deleted) was a bit different before people spoke up about this. There was a question that asked the students what they would promise to do in order to help the PRESIDENT acheive HIS goals, not this amended version that conveniently sticks to the story that the purpose of his speech was to motivate kids re: their educaion.

For a county that refuses to allow her students to pledge allegiance to her flag and to the Republic for which the flag stands yet allow for her children to basically pledge allegiance to a PERSON is absolutely ridiculous. If you don't see the difference, I suggest you listen to the smart kids on this one and quit acting like a bunch of lemmings. Whether his restucturing (or change) of this country's principles is intended to open the door for a fascist dictator to assume absolut control or it is just a lack of forsight, dont care. The end result is there. If he is that stupid, his qualifications are void, if he is that SMART and doing this on purpose, he is a traitor. Either one warrants impeachment. Period.
  • The issue
    The issue is simple...

obama is likely unable to give a non political pep talk. I just don't believe he has it in him, not to use this forum for political purposes.

Thank fully, all this uproar will probably keep it clean... lets hope so, otherwise ... there very well may be a lawsuit filed.
  • retom
I can understand your frustration. we went through a similar thing but have a great principle who helped us through it.

I dunno about the last 50 years. I think there's been a heck of a lot of good things. global middle class continues to grow and globalization moves on - and we are the DNA for that movement.

I think a lot of people just dont see how really great things continue to be compared with history.

and they're the same people who tend to obsess over something like this speech...
  • Clunker Approval?
Well, of course the sales have to be approved.
Now wait and see how many are not approved.
Too late! No revisions or resubmissions! The deal is o-v-e-r.
I don't understand - the solution is to just print more money and hand it out.
  • Speech
If your child can be "indoctrinated" by a single short speech, then what does that say about the parents. Would the parents be happier if the speech were delivered via cartoons?
  • Prezbo speech
I agree with those that say let him make his speech. As long as all those kids subjected have an intelligent adult sponsor listening in. I think it will be just another extension of President Obamuppets never ending Hollywood production. I can see it adding to his product lines. Obama book bags, pencils, crossing guard gear, free lunch tokens etc.
  • not a problem
I don't have a problem with BO giving a speech to encourage children to try hard in school; based upon what I've seen in the recently published "talking points," it's the other content that concerns me. I don't think it is my or my children's job of "serving" our President. After all, he and other officials are *public servants*, correct? They do deserve our respect, of course.
My childrens' school doesn't plan to show it the day it's broadcast since it is the first day of school here and they are requiring parents' permission beforehand. I think Brooke's idea is great -- watch it yourself and come up with your own talking points. Make it a teachable moment in your home.
  • resnarky
I'm just glad we did what we did. Being at the school over 12 times trying to get help for our child who was struggling and getting no help was very frustrating. Very. Frustrating.

And I hope your wrong about the last 50 years. We need a change back to SERVICE to your country instead of using it to get your message out or imbed your agenda into society. That goes for both sides of the aisle.
  • How about My Pet Goat instead
I suppose conservatives would rather have President Obama read "My Pet Goat" to the students instead.
  • Right wingers will be embarrassed in the end
Once the speech is made available and you all see how benign it is, the right wing nuts will look back at their antics and be utterly embarrassed about their juvenile and ill-advised hyperpartisan over-reaction.

What is partisan about the messages of working hard and staying in school? Isn't this something that rational people can agree upon regardless of party affiliation or political philosophy?

Quite frankly, to those parents who are going to pull your kids out of school for the day, maybe I wish you'd pull your kids out permanently because I'm not sure I want my kids going to school with the offspring of mentally unstable paranoid crazies.
  • To Samantha
Samantha, you write: "I will watch it myself online and if there is nothing that I feel is inappropriate, I will show it to them. Why not release it for parents first and then let us decide".

So, Samantha, do you also get every teacher's lesson plans in advance to "approve", view every filmstrip in advance, insist on giving permission every time you kid's class has a guest speaker?

If so, you are one of those paranoid helicopter parents. If not, you are hypocritical to insist on advance screening of a speech by the president of the United States but not on any other aspect of your kid's curriculum.

What do you think the worst thing is that could happen if your kid watched a short speech by the President of the United States?
  • IF it were only about education
I'd be fine with it, but if you saw the curriculum they put out before it was scrubbed you'd be alarmed too. They wanted the kids to write a letter to themselves stating how they could help the president. Help him do what? Get them a better education? I don't think so. They then wanted these letters pulled out later in the year to "hold them accountable".

And there was squeeze loads more propaganda. They got caught and now it was "inartfully worded". The letters were supposed to be what their short term and long term goals are.

    Yeah, easy mistake...
  • retomandburley
tom - to think that is to ignore the last 50 years.

burley - yes, I am sure. insane people always think it's the rest of the world that has a problem. it's OK, we understand. but please, stop yelling. your scaring the children.
  • Why?...
Would we come out against the president of our country addressing our youth? I'm as conservative as they come, but to stand against the president making a speech, or keeping your child home, or making your child's school obtain permission, makes conservatives appear close-minded, afraid, and ignorant. If you're troubled, then watch the speech (even if you work, it will be available online 5 minutes after it's broadcast) and prepare your own talking points. Keep in mind that whether he was your candidate or not (and no, he certainly wasn't mine), the office demands our respect. Oh, and let's not forget: know thine enemy.
  • Dumb and dumber
We pulled our kids out of Government School this year. We found that in just 3 short weeks we have been able to deprogram them from the loser mentality prevalent in the schools and resotred their common sense. Being in chr=arge of your children's education and teaching them how to learn is truly the best thing a parent can do for their children. I think homschoolers will be ruling the world in a few years.

It is quite apparent that unless you are underprivileged (very interesting word isn't it?) or handicapable, that no one in the school system is interested in helping your bright, gifted children. They just want them for their test scores...

    quack quack
  • re:Snarky
you said "you can only deal with rational people. irrational people...not so much."

Yeah, I and all other conservatives, libertarians, and otherwise rational people are really feeling this right now.
  • Didn't this happen before
Didn't George HW Bush do the same thing and people complained then as well. So when someone with an R next to their name does it its bad, when someone with a D does it its good?
  • talk
The reason the President needs to talk to US schoolchildren is because so many parents do not understand and or do not care, that education even a bad education (public/government) is the key to their children in achieving an excellent and happy life.
  • reburley
like it or not, sometimes, people are just ignorant.

just callin a duck a duck.

you can only deal with rational people. irrational people...not so much.

neal gets this - why dont you?
  • Liberals and argument....
snafubird said "Yes! morons like you are precisely to blame. that's the point."

They(liberals) always get insulting when the argument isn't going their way(always). Their last resort is always "SHUTUP!"

    http://www.pjtv.com/video/Klavan_on_Culture/Klavan_on_Culture:_Shut_Up/1612/

(the add is 20 seconds long, it's worth tht wait!)
  • Don't just skip that day
Make a lasting statement. Tell the government you consider them to be entirely inadequate and incompetent in the area of educating your children. Withdraw your kid from school altogether. If ALL conservative minded parents were to make the sacrifice to homeschool, the message would be undeniable. "We're not going to take it anymore." You're only making noise if you aren't willing to give up your cable TV, cell phones, shiny new cars and HUGE houses for the good of your children and the advancement of reason in government. ALL of my children have read and understand the Constitution AND the Declaration of Independence. Make yours do the same.
  • Obama School Speech
I am a parent who doesn't give a toss one way or another. Why? Because my children have been raised to have a healthy amount of scepticism regarding anything any politician or government mouthpiece says. My youngest child is 14, and he knows better than to take anything at face value.
  • Reagen did address school childred...
    As noted by abc:

There is some historical precedent for presidents speaking to students in nationally televised addresses. President George H. W. Bush did so in 1991 and President Ronald Reagan even talked politics with students in 1988.
  • remallard
You said "Given his track record so far, can you really blame anyone for thinking he might use it as a platform to push his marxist agenda?"

Yes! morons like you are precisely to blame. that's the point.
  • President's speech to schoolchildren
I don't necessarily have a problem with the President addressing schoolchildren, I have a problem with what this President may say. I made the decision to opt my kids out of watching it at school. I will watch it myself online and if there is nothing that I feel is inappropriate, I will show it to them. Why not release it for parents first and then let us decide? Oh, right, this goverment doesn't believe in personal choices...
  • We made a difference
Neal, our complaints about the DOE lesson plan actually made a difference. The folks in DC had to change it. If that DOE lesson plan had only talked about educational goals, nobody would have cared. Instead, the whole lesson plan was Govco-centric. This is just as bad as the Obama White House using the NEA to advance their goals.
  • It's too late
"If he says something that suggests "indoctrination," then conservatives can nail him." At this point it's too late. How do you explain to your 6 year old to listen to adults at school as authority figures, oh but by the way, don't listen to them about this...and don't pay attention to the POTUS because he's a socialist. I wouldn't have a problem with them showing a State of the Union address, but in this speech, he will be talking directly to the kids. I don't let their crazy uncle teach them how to cuss either.
  • Kids are dumb because government wants them that way
I have to agree with Boortz on this one. All of you conservatives who are making such a big deal about this before it even happens need to get a grip.
You can get pissed AFTER Obama stutters his way through another painfully vanilla and clichéd speech that the liberals will drool over for its imagination and eloquence.
Our kids really are going to be EVEN DUMBER after hearing Obama speak, because his speeches tend to be totally void of anything approximating thought. But I'll agree with Boykin that it's a strange thing for parents to keep their kids from school so they do not hear a speech given by the president.
  • Public or Private Education, which one Neal?
What type of schools did you receive your education in Neal, public or private?
  • Secret look at speech content - warn fellow citizens!
I agree with my favorite talk show hosts and their obedient listener-soldiers like myself.

I heard Obama's address to kids will proceed as follows:
    1. Prayer to Allah
    2. Leads kids in singing of Kenyan National Anthem
    3. Leads kids in the new "Pledge of Allegiance to Obama, and to the commune for which it stands."
    4. Tells kids that abortion is the solution to all teen pregnancies . . . but better to wait 6 months so they can get a partial birth abortion.
    5. Provides instructions to kids on how to report their parents if their parents say anything negative about the Administration
    6. He deputizes all kids into the new "Obama Youth Corps" and leads them in the "loyalty oath".
    7. Afterwards, teachers pass out hats and armbands for the new Obama Youth Corps, and kids are instructed to meet "by the bike racks" after school for the first meeting (incidentally, kids have to be told where the bike racks are since no kids ride bikes to school any more).
  • Maybe..
Maybe the kids are so dumb today because their parents are too busy complaining about politics rather than letting them have fun.
  • I really don't blame them but...
Here's the thing. This is exactly what parents SHOULD be doing: saying "I don't want you telling my kid something without me knowing the actual subject matter first."

On the other hand, where have they been on this for the past 5 or 6 decades?! As if schools haven't been teaching things parents disagree with, without the parents giving a rats derrière for how long now?

That doesn't mean I don't think they should start now, but maybe they should put some time in elsewhere. And maybe the president could release a list of bullet points for parents to see ahead of time to put people at ease.
  • I kind of agree
If JFK or Reagen had spoken to the classrooms of a nation, would people have been this upset?

The thing is, Obama made his bed and now he can lie in it. Given his track record so far, can you really blame anyone for thinking he might use it as a platform to push his marxist agenda?

As Ive said before "Government school classrooms are an avenue for leftists to hold other peoples children as a captive audience to further their own political agenda."
  • Speech
The problem with your premise is that Republicans will do nothing or their statements will be quashed by the state media.
  • School Spech and my Growing Fear
The reaction to Obama’s planned speech to schoolchildren is getting completely out of hand. Driven by the right wing media and their conspiracy theories, zombie parents are going ballistic. As for the document for teachers, this is really nothing new, just schoolese that could have just as easily been written thirty years ago. Nothing sinister at all.

I was listening to a radio news program yesterday and they had a guest who informed us that threats against the President have risen four hundred percent since January.

I blame the right wing. These hosts and bloggers (some who admit they do not even check their facts), knowing they have a huge audience who hang on their every word and believe everything they say, go on with the rhetoric, the lies, the conspiracy theories, the misinformation, and the hatred. When confronted with their actions they hide behind “well I’m just an entertainer”.

Well sorry. When you have influence over that many people it goes beyond merely being an entertainer. With influence comes responsibility. How long will it be before one of the zombies after listening to day after day of “Obama’s a dictator”, “Obama’s taking away your freedoms” and “Obama’s brainwashing your children”, will one of them decide to do something tragic?

And if that day comes (and I hope it does not), I hope not only is the perpetrator prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but the host(s) or blogger who drove him to it are held responsible as an accessory. In addition, the alleged effects of the “Fairness Doctrine” on right wing radio will pale in comparison to what will happen then and the right-wingers will only have themselves to blame.

"More broadly, Obama is the leader of this entire nation. It doesn't matter if you voted for him--or even if your head threatens to explode every time you think about him. He is the president, and, as such, it's a big deal that he's speaking directly to students about the importance of education. (Not teachers unions, you hysterics.) And, whatever one's party registration, the idea that any child should be kept home from class purely so their parents can make a political statement about an apolitical speech is appalling. Is the idea that we should shelter children from any contact with or knowledge of any president we personally dislike? Maybe, during the years our preferred party is out of power, we should just pretend that the president doesn't exist. That's a healthy way to run a democracy.

Admittedly, Obama is smooth. But he ain't smooth enough to wipe away an entire childhood of conservative teachings with one quickie speech about (all together now!) working hard in school. Buck up, all you deep-red wingers: Make the kids watch Glenn Beck afterward if it eases your anxiety. Have them genuflect before a poster of Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter. But don't be so paranoid about what might happen if they're briefly exposed to the sinister charms of a liberal president that you drag them down into your foxhole of craziness.

Or, at the very least, save the dragging for after school." -- Michelle Cottle
