Barack Obama did a fine job of appeasing and apologizing at the United Nations. While his speech was filled with empty phrases like, "the people of the world want change," the part that got him the most applause was when he mentioned Israel. Need I remind you that applause from a group of dictators and despots is not exactly a good thing. Also .. do I need to remind you that the UN is and has been very much anti-Israel. The applause was no surprise.

As former UN Ambassador John Bolton said, Obama essentially put Israel on the chopping block. Obama said, "We continue to call on Palestinians to end incitement against Israel, and we continue to emphasize that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements ... The United States does Israel no favors when we fail to couple an unwavering commitment to its security with an insistence that Israel respect the legitimate claims and rights of the Palestinians. And nations within this body do the Palestinians no favors when they choose vitriolic attacks over a constructive willingness to recognize Israel's legitimacy, and its right to exist in peace and security."

One of Obama's audience members was none other than Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This is a man who denies the existence of the Holocaust and says that he wants to "wipe Israel off the map." I wonder if this statement by Barack Obama sent tingles up his leg? Can't you just see him sitting there grinning ear-to-ear as Obama carries his water to the UN delegates?

Now ... having brought up Obama's decidedly unfriendly stance toward Israel, there were some good parts of the speech. I particularly liked this:

"Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone. Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges. Nothing is easier than blaming others for our troubles and absolving ourselves of responsibility for our choices and our actions,"

Well .. good for him on this one.

Still ... the three marquis speeches at the UN yesterday were Ahmadinejad, Qaddafi, and our president. Nice imaging.

What others are saying

  • Code Speech
I hate to disagree with Neal. But you have to remember this TRAITOR&CHEAT speaks in CODE!!! At first read, there was part of the speech that actually made him sound like he cares about the country. But after reading the coded words again. You realize the shared responsibility of the global challange's He is talking about global warming, and the death of capitilisim.
  • settlements
just because they are an ally doesn’t make everything they do right. the settlements are the most costly act of stubbornness in the world. i support almost nothing about the larger muslim culture, but that is only my opinion. no matter now much we might dislike the predominant culture in the region, we have no right to support expanding occupation on what was their home. furthermore, those settlements are filled with radicals from the Israeli side of the argument and they are no more constructive to finding a peaceful resolution to the problem than terrorists packing explosives. if you want Palestinians to start acting human, they must first be treated as such.
  • Careful who you vote for!
Jews here in the US voted for this guy 10 to 1 - just desserts.
  • Chavez at the UN
Chavez says it doesn't smell like sulfur anymore (his comment after speaking following President Bush)... it smells like hope.

Need any more convincing that President Obama is bad for this country? If Chavez is for him, I am definitely against him.
  • anti-Israel
Obama's comments weren't really anti-Israel. He did state that other nations must recognize Israel's right to exist, which is a position NOT shared by Ahmadinejad.

There is nothing wrong with stating that Israel's settlements in the West Bank are a problem.
  • New World Prezbo
I've never seen such a globally Warming ass kissing delivered by an American President in my life. President Obamuppet has sunk to a new low.
  • Hey LH!
Did ya see did ya see? HR1207?????
  • Wait
Wait a minute. Obama tells other countries that America cannot solve all their problems, yet he cannot preach the same message to his own people? What's up with that?
  • Jimmy Doltan
The only reason your "friends" wanted Obama to be President is because you surrounded yourself with drooling morons.
  • Not so fast Truthteller
"In this paper I would like to observe the issue of Israel formation and what problems it caused for people in this land. In 1920, the League of Nations, which later gave rise the United Nations, declared Palestine a mandated territory of Great Britain, and gave the British the responsibility of keeping order between the Jews and the Arabs, whose relationship had become increasingly hostile. Also, the mandate said that Britain was to help in making a national homeland for Palestinian Jews. Many Zionists viewed the mandate as helpful to their cause, but Britain, fearful of the hostile Arab population, proposed limits on the number of Jewish immigrants allowed to enter Palestine. These limits were not enforced, but they helped to alleviate the pressure being put on the British by Arab inhabitants of Palestine."

Not that I'm pushing one over the other, just getting all the facts.
  • Another case of misplaced loyalties by our Govt.
I think it is now safe to say Zelaya is certifiably insane.

Maybe NOW we can support the new president. Take THAT Hillary!
  • American Jews have Marxist Sympathies
That's why they continue to support the democratic party. Karl was their mentor and they continue to support him.
American Jews are also appeasers. They learned nothing from the treatment of Jews in Nazi Europe. Just give the Palestinians what they want and they will allow Israel to exist in peace.
Its some sort of psychological/genetic thing. Someone should do a study.
  • Why?
The Palestinians have become the scapegoat for the real issue.

The real issue is Jerusalem. Both the Jewish and Muslim faith claim it as a Holy site. However, despite the large amount of historical and archeological evidence, the Muslim faithful refuse to acknowledge that the Jewish had ever been there prior to Israel's modern founding.

As long as the Muslims refuse to accept that Jerusalem has a shared history, there will never be peace, and the Palestinians will continue to be used as pawns by the surrounding Muslim nations.

This is a holy war with no easy solution.
  • To Jews that voted for Obozo:
You voted for the man who has just promulgated the second holocaust in front of the UN.

    Fools.
  • oh! oh! oh!.......I got it....................
osamabama is halfwhite, halfracist and halfantisemite........so he must do things halfa..............
  • Occupation?
Yes, when every country around you attacks you to "wipe you off the map", and you end up kicking all their asses, you get to occupy whatever the hell you want.
  • I'm not a religious man..
but isn't peace in the middle east a requirement for the rapture?

maybe this guy really IS the antichrist? lol.

I wonder how all the jewish folks up in the northeast that LOOOOOVED change they can believe in feel now??
  • Native Americans
I often wonder what the Native Americans a.k.a. Ingins, think of all the white and black man settlements on "their" land. We did give them some beads for some of it.

If the Israelis were smart they would allow Palestinians to build casinos near some of their settlements, then we could have world peace.
  • The big BO
The big BO is wrong,he doesn't speak for all Americans.I for one DO approve of Israeli settlements. They took the land in a war perpetrated against them, they did not start it.Its their land.It does not matter who had it before,,,it was won.Its theirs.
  • Wrong!
There has never been a country legally recognized as Palestine or any borders circumscribing such a state. Palestine is a fantasyland made up in the mind of Muslims. Ukraine wasn't a country 20 years ago. Should we invade and give it back to Russia? Might makes right mfers. It has been that way for 5000 f-in years! Nobody wants these people. Ask Jordan.

I for one will probably pass out in orgasmic bliss when Israel turns Tehran to glass. Islam is a garbage religion and must be confined to the undeveloped world where it doesn't have access to WMD. At least Israel will use their weapons responsibly and eliminate holocaust deniers.
  • Relocate Israel and make everyone happy
My solution to world peace is to relocate the "Jewish homeland" to an unhabited island in the tropical Pacific. I'd much rather live among lushly landscaped palm-lined beaches than that sad sandbox surrounded by people who hate me and a few olive trees (and I, like all real men, hate olives).
  • @Jon
This will come as a surprise to Snarky, but only because the bird only reads what s/he wants to not what's written, but I disagree. They aren't our only friend in the Middle East. Kuwait rolls off my tongue easily having lived there a year. I haven't read or listened to Obama's speech, waste of time, but it would appear I have to agree with him to a certain degree. Israel doesn't always help their own position over there. They already agreed to the West Bank being part of a Palestinian state and they are still building settlements there. They aren't even trying to keep their side of the bargain, makes it really hard to support them beyond the retaliatory strikes against Hamas.
  • Solve the world's problems?
Neal - why would applaud BHO for wanting to solve the world's problems?
  • My $0.02
Jimmy Dolan - you may want to increase your sample size to get a more accurate picture of Israel's support for Obama. Polls prior to the election showed that 70% supported McCain. I cn only imagine the polls being even less favorable to Obozo now over there.

This issue is the American Jew. Why they are liberal is beyond comprehension. One Jewish scholar said in the 1950s: "Jews earn like Episcopalians (then the most prosperous minority group in America)and vote like Puerto Ricans (who were then the poorest)."!!!

For the American Jew, when they have a conflict between Jewish law or liberalism, they choose liberalism. In other words, liberalism has superceded Jewish law as their religion.

The itonic thing is if there is any group in this country that exemplifies or is a testimony to traditional American values (working hard, ambition, and succeeding)it is the Jews! Yet, they vote overwhelmingly for Obozo whose entire campaign was based on saying that America is flawed and needs to be "FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMED"!! He is against the very system that has given Jews more than any other place in the world!!

It is a mystery why they vote. One simple thought is that it is about perceptions. The perception (no matter how false it really is) is that the Dems are for underdogs, the downtrodden, the minorities who are discriminated against. Meanwhile, the Repubs are mean, racists, against the poor and minorities. So, with the horrors of the Holocaust genocide and racism in their mind, American Jews sided with the libs because of the perception that they are for the underdog and minorities and against racism.
  • Obama Just Reiterated Official US Policy
Let's see. Israel has violated international law for over 40 years by its continuing occupation of the Palestinian lands. It's been the official policy of the United States for all that time that Israel has no rights to those lands and, in particular, has no right to enact "settlements" in the occupied territories. Israel has consistently ignored the US, has snubbed their noses at us while building hundreds of settelments, while getting billions of dollars of aid from the US every year.

Obama's speech merely reiterates what has been official US policy for 40 years. How is that "anti-Israel?"
  • Israel - why worth American money and lives?
America's history of providing unquestioning military and financial support for Israel is cause for much of the hatred of American in the Arab world . . . and much of the motivation of terrorists.

How may American lives and direct and indirect taxpayer dollars do you think are warranted to support this small plot of parched sandy land?
I don't get the obsession with Israel that you find both among the strange bedfellows of the "bible wing" of the conservative right and the "intellectual northeasterner wing" of the democratic left.
  • Thanks Obama
Thanks Obama for crapping on Israel yesterday. They're our only true friend in the Middle East, but that doesn't mean anything, right?

    Obama is a punk.
  • Jewish support for democrats
Can someone smarter than me, please explain why the Jewish vote has historically supported the democrats?
  • triumvirate's rule
frankly, the qaddafi, obama & ahmadinejihad trio are reminiscent of the the reid, obama, pelosi triumvirate with the same intent; stupidity, hubris and subversion
  • Obama's speech
Obama received praise for this quote, "Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone. Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges. Nothing is easier than blaming others for our troubles and absolving ourselves of responsibility for our choices and our actions", however, earlier in the speech he apologized for the previous administration acting unilaterally. Is he not condemming and praising the same action?
  • Have republicans even been to Israel?
My guess is republicans could give two cents about Israel. They just added it to their agenda of stuff that shouldnt be political to hide all the priests having sex w/ little boys.

I lived in Israel. I stayed on 3 different military bases. I have dozens of Israeli friends and I will tell you one thing they all had in common. They all wanted Obama to be president. They all also hate Reagan for giving the iranians all their weapons in shady deals that everyone knows about
  • sorry
could someone point to the part of the speech that isn't correct? I missed it.
