Looks like it. I heard McCaskill yesterday speaking out about these advertisements on cable television for scooters. She says many of these scooters are for people who don't need them. She's right. They're just fatasses who don't want to walk. You folks would be shocked to know how much our government spends on these things. Hint ... look way past hundreds of millions.

Besides .. they really can clog up a walking path.

What others are saying

  • first, i'd like to say but you and her are asses who have know idea what you're talking about.

1.people dont want to be disabled.
    2. maybe, SOME people get them because they are too fat, but maybe they cant walk because no one would help them before they got to 600+ pounds.
    3. what about the people who really do need them? will they be house bound for the rest of their lives?
    4. I too has Multiple Sclerosis. I only need a wheelchair for long distances, or if i'll be walking all day. I have a bad leg, but you cant tell that by looking at me. so, think before you judge people.
    5. If you get rid of scooters all together, people that need them will not get them. Do you want them to fall and hurt themselves and pay their $10,000+ hospital bill?
  • Scooters
YOu have no idea what you are talking about.

People who can't walk are more likely to be heavy because they can't walk!

I have Multiple Sclerosis and do not use a scooter because I don't have to yet. If you think it is a joy to be in one of those suckers if you can avoid it, you are clueless!

I'll put your show on and see if I can call to buy you a clue,
  • Power Chairs
I am REALLY disappointed in some of the posts here. I am a dialysis patient with a bone disease. I have probably needed a power chair for a couple of years, but my male pride prevented from getting one, even though I have been considering it. I would rather have walked with crutches or a cane that sit in a power chair. As time goes by, I realize that I will NEED one in the future, but thanks to Claire, it probably won't be available to me when I need it. On Monday, I will start the ball rolling on getting one. Thanks Claire, Neal and all of you sicko people denegrating those that actually need one. You have helped me make up my mind. I paid and still do pay my taxes, so I am going to get mine. Some people are idiots. How can people be so damn cruel?
  • Claire Schmaire
She's just p*ssed that she can't get away with tooling around on one.

But you do need to add "scooter whales" and "slobsleds" to the boortzionary! HA!
  • Scooter Whales
Once again Scooter Whales are taking over prime time television.... do I see the possibility for a new Boortzinary term?

Scooter Whales - noun - Fata**es who ride around our scooters and can walk.
  • wellllll helllllls belllllllllllllllllllls..........................
    are they free????????????? gimme gimme
  • Scooters and other things
My brother called me from Oklahoma this weekend. A couple of years ago, he bought a house in a lakeside community, pretty upscale. This year, with the State of Oklahoma kicking in a tax credit, and the Federal government kicking in another for "roadable electric vehicles", he is able to purchase a new high-end golf cart for tooling around his neighborhood and down to the lake, and get ALL his money back when he files his tax return next spring. He called specifically to thank me for my portion of the cost of his new toy. Allow me to pass on his thanks to all of you as well.
  • Scooter Cost (govt study)
    http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/09/02/medicare.wheelchairs/index.html
  • Scooters
Call 'em what they are: Slobsleds!
  • Too many scooters
You should visit Disney World or Disneyland sometime. There are a lot of people on these scooters who are, Plus sized. Then there are future "fatasses", kids, not babys, but 4, 5, 6+ year olds who should be walking, yet Mommy and Daddy are pushing them around in a stroller. Ridiculous! And, annoying!
  • She's right!
Scooters for people to ride around and get fatter and lazier. Stop it!
"Handicapped Driver" signs ... parking in this special width spot ... jumping out of the drivers seat and trotting into Walmart ... person with crutches then has to park in regular width parking space ... try it sometime with crutches.
Let's all begin yelling these able to walk and trot; "Hey ... at least you could limp into the door!"
  • Health Care Costs
Easy fix here for Obama's undocumented promise. Just like parts of the environmental laws, just add a provision allowing any citizen anywhere, anytime, the "standing" to file a lawsuit and kill the whole deal if any of the promises don't pan out. After all, if they are that sure of their figures and promises, surely they wouldn't object to such language... would they?
  • Scooters
Another thought. I wonder how many people "qualify" for and get the scooter and then turn around and sell it for a quick buck?
  • Another Questionable Area
I think also another area of fraud and abuse is the non-emergency medical transportation that medicare/medicaid pays for. In little Covington, Georgia there are several companies operating. You see their vans running around town all of the time. I find it hard to believe that there are that many people who legitimately need this service everyday. I would bet that this is nothing more than a taxpayer provided taxi-cab.
  • Idea of the month
Neal, you need to set up a webpage for folks to send in photos they take of the fatasses on scooters. It would be great fun and might bring to light the incredible number of F.A.'s clogging the aisles of our Wal Marts.
  • Medicare Fraud
The DME industry (which includes scooters) is probably one of the biggest areas where Medicare fraud is committed. The Scooter Store (they are the ones that advertise on TV a lot) settled a $4 million fraud allegation for providing scooters to people who didn't want them or need them. In other words, this didn't go to court and no one went to jail.
Sure, you are seeing a lot of lardasses using them, but just imagine how many scooters are parked in the garage for people who have no medical need for them.
Again, when the government hands out money fraud will inevitably occur!
  • scooters
I agree with McCaskill on this one. The people hawking the scooters on TV should be ashamed. Once again people going against the spirit of something to search out the loop-holes to profit themselves. This is the EXACT reason why government run health care does not or will not work. Too many hucksters willing to work the system for a buck.
  • Fatasses
I usually take a picture of all of these fat asses with my cellphone camera when I see them, just to remind me of how my tax dollars are going to use
  • Scooters
If you really want to get rid of scooters, you have to present a leftist argument against their overuse. Rational and sane arguments against the government spending billions on these won't work in modern America, but if you say they aren't "green" then you have a chance. Just say scooting isn't as "green" as walking and suddenly you'll have the power to get rid of these things.

OK, I am jesting, but I think that would actually work.
  • Senator McCaskill needs to act now !
Why Wait Senator? If you know it's a problem fix it now. The same with all th other problem areas you seem to know of. If you want more control show us you can fix what is presently under your control.
  • Scooters
I have always wondered about the people who use scooters; for example if they are sick beacuse they are so large or if they are so large because they are sick.
  • Government the Enablers
If people are using the scooters and arent actually crippled and just too heavy to walk comfortably then giving them a scooter paid for by taxpayer money is just enabling them. Getting OFF them and walking more is what they need....besides, it helps people lose what vestiges of esteem they have left all the while being coddled by the nurturing enslavement of gubbmint. They might as well be handing out packets of Kool 100's (Obamas brand) to anyone that needs to quit smoking.
  • Many people do need them
As a nurse I see a lot of people who have scooters. Mainly paraplegics and incomplete quadriplegics have these and they are young. Some are middle aged. I know of some that would like one but when they ask I ask if they can walk and if they say yes then I tell them you need to walk. I am sure there is some abuse. You can acquire a scooter for about 1000 on the used market.
  • I know a retired USAF Chief that really needs one.
He'll keel over before you get him in one though.
