CENSUS WORKER FOUND HANGED

The body of a 51-year-old man was found hanged in rural Kentucky earlier this month. Bill Sparkman was a part-time census field worker. He reportedly also worked as what the AP describes as an "occasional teacher." There's an unconfirmed report that the man had the word "fed" written on his chest. As of now officials aren't saying much, including whether this is a murder or a suicide.

One thing for certain ... suicide or murder, this is going to be seized on by the left to paint all Americans concerned with government growth, and especially all Americans who are opposed to our intrusive census, as homicidal maniacs. This is the way the left works. They'll find some bizarre and isolated incident - like the possible lynching of a census worker - and from that point on every person who isn't willing or, in fact, eager to answer in excruciating detail every question on the long census form is a threat to all mankind.

If this Kentucky incident is, in fact, a homicide ... then let's hope the murder is caught and eventually executed ... by hanging. Remember, I'm so warped that I believe murderers ought to die the way they killed their victims.

What others are saying

  • Boortz nails the left's response
Just watched Rachel Maddow. As if Neil got a preview of her show tonight, she did exactly as he predicted. A good 15 minutes lamenting the horrific murder and scandalous circumstances of his death. Tragic, as any death, to be sure. But it is and will be used for political fodder.
  • I don't think this is politically motivated.
I think he asked someone running a meth lab or a pot farm some of those intrusive census questions.

    for example:
What do you do for a living?
How much do you make a month?
What do you spend a month on electricity?
What do you spend a month on gas?

Someone prolly thought he was a revenuer
  • 100 year flood in Georgia
Worst flood since 1919 and all Boors cares about is the same old selfish self-centered agenda driven crap. Way to be topical and local pant-load.
  • NO
I agree with Neal Boortz, and Hannity, and Rush, and Savage, and Beck, and O'reilly follow the GOP: Personal responsibility, neighbor helping neighbor, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, charities, churches, kindness of strangers, local and state only, no taxdollars from out of state taken by force to help us, say NO to Washington DC, we don't need nor want nor will we except and take Obamadollars, no big federal government stuff down here, we want out of the union, secession now secession forever.
  • Ultra-Right-Wing
I like how they point out the only right wing psychopath, McVeigh. The Weather Underground wasn't hell-bent on murder and destruction? And doesn't almost every left-wing AND ultra-left-wing protest erupt in violence against government officials? Crazy Ultra-Anti-Fed-Neo-Con-Praisers-Of-Liberty....
  • Hanging (?) of Census Worker
I'm looking at this based on my 20 years experience in the NYPD.
The last ten years spent as a detective in a precinct detective sqd.
I not only responded on my cases and my sqd's cases but we also responded/assisted on hundreds if not thousands of other occurrances over the years. Interviews, responses, canvasses, evidence recovery, etc.
Not counting my other ten years. All spent in busy precincts/commands.
Never once did I see or even hear of a true "Old West Style" hanging. There was a hanging from a tree in Brooklyn's Prospect Park once. The 1990's ?
There was a lot of investigation on that one. It made national news. I believe it was proven to be a suicide.
They were able to determine that he put the noose around his neck, climbed up the tree, tied up the rope, then tied up his hands in front and then put them under his legs to get them behind his back. But in doing that front to back maneuver, the rope scuffed the front of his shoes. Leaving that mark as evidence of a suicide.
I'm not a 100% sure on that.. maybe you can Lexis Nexis it on a search.
Many of the suicides I responded to were hangings. They're difficult for the average person to comprehend but they actually do happen. You just never hear about them. It was also a very difficult thing for surviving family to come to terms with. It all was a very sensitive matter. People would hang themselves from shower door top frames, cords on window blinds, closet rods and overhead pipes. It wasn't an everday case but they happened a few times a year.
Along with the other "traditional" forms of suicide. They are a tragic, fairly frequent occurrance. They're not a secret to Law Enforcement. It's a very well known - by the Police - occurrance.
Based on my training, a true hanging is a very difficult act to accomplish.
It takes extreme violence to actually hang someone. Whether implied or used.
Unless you're chemically knocked out beforehand, or beaten into unconsciousness, who wouldn't resist ?
They would generally put up a huge fight. In doing that, there would be physical evidence of that struggle.
Could it happen at gunpoint ? Of course anything is possible.
The history of Dictatorship's and some hate groups, show many hangings.
But they're at the point of some form of other means of certain death, if you don't submit to the hanging.
I just doubt, with a 99% certainty, that this was a true forcible hanging.
Of course, just because I've never heard of, or seen one, doesn't mean it couldn't have happened.
And none of us knows the actual facts and evidence of this particular matter.
That's why it'll have to be thoroughly investigated.
Either way, pray for the deceased.
  • Hanging in Kentucky
AMEN, Neal! I completely agree! Eye for an eye! You kill someone with a blunt object...you should be killed with a blunt object. Or should that be "0dject"? HAHAHA! two for one, I love it!
  • dnc lies
Makes me think of the black woman in Atlanta whose business was spray painted with the "n" word. Turns out she did the spray painting herself and blamed it on conservatives. Of course the dnc media failed to report that fact after she was caught. democrapos ALWAYS lie.
  • rejoyce
    the quotes are real

    hey, here's more http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features/view/feature/Race-Rules-All-in-Obamas-America-60

and, again - do you read what you write?

it was irresponsible for pelosi to say to lunatics to chill because she's seen where this goes?

that's just stupid. not ignorant - stupid.

what a childish thing to say.

It's like - blaming your mom for smacking you for throwing a tantrum and as a result you hit back....

gimme a break. a whining child was told to calm down .... and you call that out of line?

oh wait..you called it out of line and then said my source was silly - my bad.

    good one!

    pfft..
  • Duh snark
That is what Pelosi was doing was stirring up crap. The San Fran riots she was referring to? Remember?

It was irresponsible for any of them to bring up this crap.

And you quote a site promoting Al Sharpton the biggest race pimp in history!!!! COME ON Snarky even you are better than that!

LOL, you are quickly losing your credibility.
  • Daaaaaaaaamn Jack
    That was GOOOOOOOOOOOD!
  • @777
    Exactly, 777.

Not only is Clay County, KY a hotbed of Meth and Marijuana production, this is the time of the year when the feds do their marijuana crop raids.

I would bet anyone a steak dinner that this turns out to be drug war related.
  • If they don't know who killed him, how do they know why?
There's not enough info available for the accusations being thrown. The dp/msm has no room to talk anyway.
  • rejoyce
    "their words have consequences'

seriously, do you ever read what you type?

    http://newsone.com/obama/top-10-racist-limbaugh-quotes/

    or how about this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI_0Kt_e3Go

or gee - all african witch dr signs from protestors while carrying loaded weapons.

yes, let's tone done the rhetoric. DUH! THAT is what Pelosi was saying...
  • quick where was...........
we really have to kno' this quick.......where was g dubya??????

    RAAAAAANDYYYYYYYYYYYY..........aaaaaaw crap!!!!!
  • His "race" is obviously. . .
NOT black. If he were, the words "racially motivated" and "hate crime" would be sprinkled generously throughout the report. My condolences go to his family and friends.
  • Inciteful Language
And it's coming from Pelosi, Carter, Cosby and any one else crying about racism when there is no proof. You get people thinking in that direction, then some idiot or high-testosterone kids on a bus starts yelling about racism.

So those guys need to realize that their words have consequences.
  • Census Worker Found Hanged
Conspiracy Theory Time: This is a false-flag operation by Leftists to silence the opposition on the Right by tarring us all with a "hate" brush.
  • Pro-Census
Yeah, that might be true.... if the census data was accurate. The fact is that not only is the census inaccurate, but it is intentionally inaccurate. It is simply a tool used by politicians to get more of their people in office. I guess you just figured it was a coincidence that obama put Rahm in charge and that Acorn was going to be involved in data collection, and that new sampling and extrapolation techniques were going to be implimented.
  • Tim McVeighs
QWERTY - you are another moron.

    (1) "but I wish that the firebrand right wing opinion leaders out there, like the talk radio hosts, would realize that there is a but I wish that the firebrand right wing opinion leaders out there, like the talk radio hosts, would realize that there is a psycho contingent among their listener/reader base that sometimes takes the anti-government, anti-liberal rhetoric and acts on it in a very severe and unfortunate manner.anti-government, anti-liberal rhetoric and acts on it in a very severe and unfortunate manner."

Please show me a pattern or significant trend of where people who listen to conservative talk radio commit violent acts. Where is it, idiot? 15 years and you have only Tim Mcveigh?? BTW, what eveidence is there that he was a conservative. He was an anarchist. Worry about the liberals, they are the violent radicals, you ignorant dunce you.

On 9/12, million conservative protestors were in DC. Not one SINGLE arrest. Now, lets's take a look at your leftist buddies and how they will act during the G20 today. Take a look at how they ALWAYS act in these settings. Take a look at every president or major politician who has been shot - who was the assassin? It was always a big time lefty. God's sakes, you are ignorant.

    (2) "Jim Adkisson, the man who shot up the unitarian church in Knoxville a couple of years ago because he hated the liberal proclivities of that church and its members, was found to have a bookshelf full of books by the usual array of conservative TV and radio hosts (e.g., Savage, Hannity, O'Reilly)."

You have no proof of why he shot up that church, you are assuming (actually you are being racist!) and stereotyping. As for what books he had on his shelf, what the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in china. You are making a correlation between two things that may have nothing to do with each other. He may have had cooking books on his shelf too, along with football books. You know, the people who were shot in the church all were wearing blue shirts. They checked the killer's closet and found only red shirts there! Yes, it is clear that he had something against the color blue!!!

Bottom line: If you are truly worried about being a victim of a criminal who was driven by political event or political ideology, you better watch your back and keep an eye on the libs, they are the ones you whould be wary of when it comes to political violence.

    You are a dimwit.
  • dead census meddler
As a truly reactionary exponent of mean spirited victim blaming I believe this late character would be alive now had he stayed in the private sector where presumably he originally was some time far in his personal past & of course also minded his own infernal business.

Attention government goons assigned to harass & intimidate presumptive domestic terrorists: if you try to run me off the road again as you did in late spring after I sent Heritage Foundation president Edwin Feulner denigrative mail in his own organization's pre-franked reply envelops ensure you make me wreck; as you of course know I drive a big car & can retaliate commensurately. When that foreign looking character in the SUV tried to take my place in the far right lane just before settling in the left turn lane I seriously considered making him pay a heavy price for his precipitance. Next time I may go beyond mere consideration. I will send any one I choose what I damn please if he is pestiferous enough to antagonize me & your vicious driving, conspicuous police scrutiny, random phone calls & real time internet interference will not stop me. Neither will what ever you do as a result of this admittedly obnoxious opinion I just posted. So REALIZE, bitches!

Yes, Boortz bloggers, I am serious.
  • Dead Census Worker
Well, I guess his tally is gonna come up at least one short.

    What.....Too soon?
  • @Pro-Census
Those of us who oppose using the census for anything beyond its Constitutional purpose of apportioning House seats could care less about any "pro-business" aspects. We care because the additional information is not needed by the government, thus, we don't care to give it to them.

If businesses want that info so bad, they can get together and pay firms to go out and gather that information from those willing to give it, preferably by offering them some economic incentive to do so. Don't point a gun at me and demand I tell you how many left-handed, dyslexic, union-members of eastern European descent live in this household.

  • A suggestion to statists
If you're that concerned that people might get fired up enough by the increasing encroachments of Big Brother to start fighting back with violence, here's a suggestion: why not try cutting back on the Big Brother-ism? Just a thought, State-fellators.
  • To 777
    Good point.
  • Yeah...
I am willing to bet money that the person who killed this census worker was probably upset with the census worker GPS tagging his front door. There have been census workers all over the country that have been coming to peoples doors with GPS hardware that shows in a database which side of the house the main entryway is located. Why they need this I have no clue. I have my suspicions though. Obviously it was not the census workers fault cause he was just doing his job. His bosses need to understand that there are alot of paranoid people out there and they need to be able to explain the reason behind tagging people's front doors.
  • Clay County
Coal mine country (heavy UMW), always been independent and xenophobic. When I worked the area as a Fed with Department of Labor, we didn't use Govt cars because they had a tendency to be damaged or shot at - and we were harmless.
  • ENOUGH WITH THE SOCK PUPPETS
Pick a name and stick to it. Has it occurred to you that the ridicule to which you are subjected is due to the appalling blinkered pig ignorance, and lack of anything resembling logic that you continually demonstrate, combined with attempting to claim some form of moral superiority in the Constitution when the opposite is demonstrably true.

Democrats believe in the Constitution? This is so laughable to be pathetic.
  • @Jimmy Dolan
"but I am a democrat, which means I believe in upholding the constitution"

That maaaay be true....but the problem is you don't (as a democrat) have the first clue about what's actually *in* the constitution.
  • mr. sparkman
i hop to God the hanged man was not black. the feces would hit the fan for sure.
  • murderers die same........................
damn neal....... I'm glad we didn't catch any of those sumbitches that flew into the towers.......we ain't got that many buildings like that.......

just hire me to do away with bad guys....first I need a job.......second I would get a kick outa makin' 'em get ready to meet either their maker or ol' smoke.........

a lil' water boarding.......red is positive, black is negative, make sure his balls are wet.......now this may hurt ALOT!!!
  • @ Big Daddy..
I've been to that area, I don't think they are too fond of blacks around there either. A pretty scary place around the Daniel Boone national forest. I hope the catch the killers.

Indeed the left will try to spin this as anyone who wants to inject logic and the actual job description of president of the U.S into all the bizarre moves Obama is making must surely be just like murderers from the Kentucky back woods.
  • Census worker??
Here's what I don't get . . . the census is not until 2010. Why was this guy out collecting census data in the first place . . . or if he wasn't, then why is it significant at all that he was a part time census worker?
  • The census is one of the most pro-business government programs around
The census is one of the most pro-business things the government does. Pro-business conservatives (who are almost always bellyaching about the government standing in the way of business) should embrace it.

Numerous businesses large and small make great use of census data as inoput into their business decision processes . . . for example, issues around store location and supply chain hub/ logistics decisions, customizing product lines to local demographics, production planning, marketing strategy, etc. etc. etc. The Statistical Abstract of the United States is a staple at almost all corporate libraries.

Is it really putting a huge burden on you to spend 6 minutes filling out a form once every ten years . . .and maybe once in your life you get the long form so it takes 20 minutes instead?
  • Census/ACORN workes
I had a Census/ACORN worker turn up on my doorstep on a Sunday evening at 8:30pm. She did not have picture ID. She claimed she was with the Census bureau and needed to get a GPS reading of my front door.

I reviewed my copy of The Constitution and I cannot find where they have permission to enter my property to get a GPS reading.

Pretty stupid too... Where is live is out in the sticks. I did not flash anything, but I was packing heat when I confronted her. The neighbor next door keeps his backhoe keys next to his shotgun. It is just stupid to show up after dark and try to do these things.

Sorry about the Census worker who was hanged. A harbinger of things to come with increased government encroachment?
  • Isolated incidents
Mr. Boortz--They'll find some bizarre and isolated incident -

sorta like a video where small school children are singing the praises of President Barack Hussein Obama
  • reweew
sure, when you find one let me know.
  • Hanged Census worker
Does anyone realize that this area of KY is a hotbead of Marijuana and Meth production? He may have happened upon some growers or cookers and they saw a guy from the federal government and figured he was a snitch or a narc and killed him for it.
  • hilarious!
"I am a democrat, which means I believe in upholding the constitution."

That's the funniest thing I have read all week! Thanks Jimmy, I needed that.
  • A liberal Democrat upholding the Constitution? That's a good one, Jimmy D!

Snarky, quit making up things and deal with the real world like the rest of us do.
  • Hello Kettle, this is Pot
And Neal, or the right in general, doesn't do the exact same thing? Sure...it is only liberals and the left who generalize the other side based on the wingnuts.
  • Bilwick1@yahoo.com
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some American rebels, fired up by Thomas Paine (whose rhetoric makes Rush Limbaugh look like Ned Flanders) went out and lynched a Tory or two. Would that have de-legitimized COMMON SENSE, or the American cause in general?
  • Neal proven right on his own board already
Knew we could count on you Snark, that's why I bothered to look.

Jimmy you believe in upholding the constitution only as long as it supports your party, same as the Republicans.
  • A lot of Timothy McVeighs out there
We don't know all the facts yet in the census case . . . but I wish that the firebrand right wing opinion leaders out there, like the talk radio hosts, would realize that there is a psycho contingent among their listener/reader base that sometimes takes the anti-government, anti-liberal rhetoric and acts on it in a very severe and unfortunate manner.

Jim Adkisson, the man who shot up the unitarian church in Knoxville a couple of years ago because he hated the liberal proclivities of that church and its members, was found to have a bookshelf full of books by the usual array of conservative TV and radio hosts (e.g., Savage, Hannity, O'Reilly).

There are a lot of Tim McVeigh types in the world, and that scares me. And with the advent of niche media, they are no longer as much on the fringe as maybe they used to be. And some talk radio and "talk TV" is legitimizing the wacko fringe.
  • Snarkybird logic
OK SB, I'll not argue your post if you will only be consistent and blame ACRON, Reverend Wright, Van Jones, et al for inciting every violent crime committed by blacks against whites.
  • At least his liver wasn't eaten (with some fava beans and a nice Chianti)
  • Clay Co., KY
Not the safest place for Federales anyway. Those folks don't take kindly to ANY government interference, unless it's their Gubmint Check courtesy of Rep. Hal Rogers.
  • Crazy
I think it is crazy for anyone to even think or believe that this man did this to himself. What a stupid thought!
  • Execution by hanging
Y'know Neal, I am a big supporter of bringing back exection by hanging, but I would take it a step further. Hang em in the main part of the town nearest to where they committed their crime, and leave their body to hang on the end of the rope until it rots off. Give em 1 year for their appeals then carry out the sentence. Also put a big sign under the body saying "Murderers, think twice before this happens to you". Not only would it bring a measure of vengeance and justice to the family of the victim, it would bring back a measure of respect for the legal system. Right now a murderer knows that he has 20 years on death row so why worry?
  • Agreed
The left will seize it as an opportunity to paint the entire Conservative movement in that manner. Why murder this guy? He was probably one of the few "Feds" that was doing what he was constitutionally obligated to do.
  • Typical republicans not caring about the Constitution
I guess republicans stomping on the Constitution didnt stop with the fact they lost every election. Forget that clause about cruel and unusual punishment also. I dont agree with it myself like I dont agree bearing arms means all weapons, but I am a democrat, which means I believe in upholding the constitution.
    It sucks sometimes
  • It didn't take too long
My Twitter stream was FLOODED this morning with my liberal friends blaming Fox News, Republicans etc. for the killing because we're "poisoning the minds of the sick, to destroy America"

The liberals are like vultures, they'll exploit ANYONE or anything to advance their agenda.
  • in a related story...
a man yelled FIRE! in a crowded theater and two people were trampled to death by the crowd trying to exit the building.

The kooky left wing propaganda machine is trying to paint the person who yelled FIRE! as being responsible for these deaths but, of course, no connection has yet been established.

    pfft.
