Name: Howard

Subject: Fear-Mongering

Why do you try to frighten your listeners with unsubstantiated musings on how Obama is going to take over their retirement accounts. Many of your fans are anxious enough with real financial concerns because of the economy. Some of them want to believe your worst predictions and I think you are throwing gasoline on a lighted fire -all in the pursuit of sensationalism to boost ratings. Do you have a conscience?

Web Guy responded to this guy by reminding him that during the first year of the Clinton administration they were actually formulating an idea to seize 15% of the outstanding balance of all pension and 401K plans. Howard was also reminded that one of Obama's heroes, Cristina Kirchner, the president of Argentina, recently seized all private pension plans in that country.

That's OK. It could never happen here, right?

What others are saying

  • Lighted fire! LOL! Next time, Howard should use spell check and a little common sense.

you are so dumb! thankyou for entertaining me!
  • Fear Mongering Administration
    @Hugo is French for Ostrich
And if you think this administration and this congress is any different than what we had under Bush, I guess Hugo can use the sandbox yours just left.

Hugo didn't say anything you are trying to imply -- he disputed a claim -- a claim nobody seems able to support, instead just draw faulty conclusions so you have something to argue against.

Fear-mongering: comparing Democrats to Hilter like Neal did in the post directly before this one.

No one said this admin is any different than the previous one, but it is more likely to take us even further toward socialism in a faster goose step.

There are lots of similar events to Hitler's days.

Now, remind me, which side is pushing the global-warming/climate-change/we're-all-gonna-die scam?

  • Every notice
Hugo posts his crap, his version of "fear mongering" then jumps to the next thread. Never comes back to read the responses to his idiocy. Doesn't do any good to respond to him.

But for any newbies that may be confused by his post, there was indeed discussion by Clinton re: 401K's

It's a FACT that you can't practice "Crisis Management" without a crisis.

This doesn't, however, apply to Neil. He didn't make up the crisis. He's merely verbalizing a logical conclusion to what's currently materializing.

    9/11 - Can't practice "Crisis Management" without a crisis.

How come a crisis always leads to restrictions on freedom? "Crisis Management" at its best!

"A person who creates a problem/stirs up trouble/or creates a situation or crisis just so they can solve it and be the hero." Doesn't this sound like ALL our politicans,(IF THEY HAVE NO CRISIS TO SOLVE THEN WE DON'T NEED THEM)
  • @ Steve
Funny you should say.... I too have been trying to figure out what to do. Yank it and buy gold? Silver? Leave it alone and dump it in the market if it shows signs of turning around? I should have turned around and re-invested in the market after I switched it all into a money market to stop the bleeding. I could have re-couped 20 - 30% in the first half. Can't leave it in a money market forever, especially if / when the dollar tanks. But then, don't want it in the market if / when the economy dumps either. So it makes sense to me as well. Don't keep the dollars nor the stocks for neither will be worth squat in the next few years. Anyone else have an idea?
  • neal is a fear-monger
the post "ten things the media won't tell you" is a prime example. where are the failure of american health care stories? where are the successes of the canadian or the british health care stystems? and we don't hear about the french or german or japanese or sinpapore health care stystems.

and how about the nukes in iran or north korea? you got to run a story on that, neal. i almost forgot about it. i need to be scared of something neal. that's why we have petty tyrants in third world countries.

now i am frightened of hugo chavez. why, that dictator who won more than two elections. i'm so scared of him! thank you neal, for bringing it so frequently to my attention.

    i'm reminded of this quote:

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
    H. L. Mencken

this quote can applied to on air radio ENTERTAINERS

i would wear "fear-monger" as a badge if i was you. it's what you do good. be proud.
  • fearmongering vs educating
One parties fear-mongering is another parties educating. It all depends on your way of looking at it. Of course one party deals in facts and figures more than the other. The other relies on emotional"feels-right" and whats politically correct to "educate and motivate" their followers.....What do YOU want,a government led based on facts first but tempered with emotion or a government led by emotion first with facts bringing up the rear....In most of life emotions get you into trouble and facts get you out.
  • @Hugo
Hugo, Google Rep. Jim Miller of California and look for an article written last fall concerning a proposed government intervention in pension plans. It didn't come out of thin air. An economist from Stanford wrote a paper describing how it could be done and probably should be done. It's out there, maybe a distant echo, but it's out there. Who would have thought the Federal Government could ever try to hijack healthcare? I guess that's never been discussed before either?
  • Hugo is French for Ostrich
    Hugo,
If you don't think this administration AND this Congress won't take anything they feel they deserve from you, then you, sir, need to get your head out of the sand.
  • Very topical article
This is a funny article considering that I'm actually going to sell out of my 401k today. I think I have 30 years before I can withdrawal properly. All the financial experts in the world say this is the wrong thing to do, but they fail to take into account these points:

    1) I have no confidence whatsoever that the government will honor its side of this deal for the next 30 years. At some point it will be raided. Since 401Ks aren't people's day-to-day money I think the government will soon discover that it's easier to steal this cash than a person's income or existing wealth.

    2) Tax rates will likely be substantially higher by the time I can use it without penalties. The current tax rate with a penalty will likely be better than the future tax rates without a penalty.

    3) I have my doubts as to whether or not the US will even be around in 30 years. It can't continue in this state of decomposition for much longer, let alone 30 years. I see no sign of a turnaround either because Americans seem to get dumber and dumber with each passing year.

At the very least, if I liquidate my 401K today I will get the money and can even hide it in bullion if the government starts to impose more sweeping wealth taxes.

Um, right. Because there is no evidence of that ever happening. I wonder if Web Guy has ever heard of this thing called "Google"?
