THE PROTESTS

Democrats are shell-shocked. They truly cannot believe that this is happening to them. Just last February they were participating in a coronation that was to usher in a new age of Government Cool. Now people are starting to realize that there is nothing all that cool about the government taking over almost 20 percent of our economy. The polls are clear ... almost 7 out of 10 people are satisfied with the health care they're receiving right now. They've seen the mess that government has made out of Social Security. Recently they saw that the government couldn't even do the work that thousands of used-car salesmen handle every week with no problems. These people wonder why Obama is so hell-bent on getting this done NOW, and they suspect that's because the more they learn about the plan the less they're going to like it.

Actually ... last week was rather fun! I say that because it is so fun to watch these Democrats squirm when the people of this country give them the metaphorical one-finger salute. We can probably expect more of it this week ... although things promise to be more violent now that the union enforcers are showing up at these townhalls. I've brought to your attention many of these events over the last week of these healthcare townhalls turning sour. But none may be able to top this one from right here in my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. It made national news after Rep. David Scott of Georgia's 13th district shouts at a constituent who dared to ask him if he was going to vote for the healthcare bill.

This one bothered me because I've known David Scott personally for over 25 years. David Scott is a Democrat congressman representing Georgia's 13th Congressional District. He served in the Georgia legislature for years before going to Washington. He and I have had disagreements on many issues, particularly gun control, but over the years he has been unfailingly polite and even-tempered.

Apparently that was then. Now things are different. I would guess that, considering his district, Scott is under tremendous pressure to toe the Obama party line. He knew his job at that townhall meeting was to defend Obama's policies. Perhaps his irritation came from having to defend the indefensible. Or ... Maybe he was mad that there were no union goons at the meeting to deal with this doctor. As we've discussed ... the unions are offering themselves up to be Democrat enforcers. This morning on Fox News Channel they showed some video of encounters at health care demonstrations. In one video a member of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) was heard calling an ObamaCare opponent a "punk" and a "Nazi." Another SEIU union goon ends up jamming a video camera into the face of some woman. In another video we see a SEIU goon deliver a knockout punch to a protestor. Remember, please .. the Democrats sent out the call for these union goons, and the unions are eager to please their masters. What was it Obama's deputy chief of staff said? Oh, I remember ... hit them back twice as hard.

Here's some definitions for you. If you show up at a townhall meeting and you support ObamaCare, you're a "citizen." If you oppose government-run health care, you're a "heckler." Or worse.

By the way ... my guess is that for the remainder of the month you're going to see more and more Democrat office-holders canceling their townhall meetings. They'll claim that the cancellations are for security reasons ... and the blame will be placed on those evil people who don't want government-run health care. In a sense they may be pleased with this turn of events. They'll be able to avoid the protestors by canceling their townhall meetings .. then they can continue with the bogus claim that Americans are solidly behind them.

What others are saying

  • Health Fair, not Town Hall
Mr. Scott was not entirely honest in his description of the event on Saturday. According to the Medical Association of Atlanta it is a Health Fair, not a Town Hall and not a discussion...
    --
The Medical Association of Atlanta has agreed to assist Congressman David Scott by providing medical screenings at his 5th annual health fair. Dr. Yolanda Whyte from the MAA will be coordinating physician volunteers to provide health screenings for skin cancer, diabetes, depression, asthma as a service to the community.

The health fair is being held in the 13th congressional district at Mundy’s Mill High School in Jonesboro, GA. The health fair is expected to serve 1500 constituents from Cobb, Clayton, Douglas, Fulton, Henry, and DeKalb Counties.

Event: 13th Congressional District Health Fair
    Date: Saturday 8/15/09, 10am-2pm
Location: Mundy’s Mill High School at 9652 Fayetteville Road (Hwy 54) Jonesboro, GA 30238
  • Cowards
The Demokrats are displaying amazing cowardice! This will surely work to their disadvantage. How do you effectively push your agenda if you don't appear in public?
  • Observation of the left
I love how you Obama administration health care policy supporters are incapable of offering any substantive criticism of those who oppose your own views. All you Obama policy supporters offer are petty attempts at marginalizing those with view opposite of your own. Petty attempts like calling people names like Nazi, racists or tea baggers or accusing the Republican party and conservative talk shows of organizing and paying people to show up at town hall meetings to act rudely towards representatives who may support Obama’s health care bill. These petty attempts at marginalizing valid and honorable critics of the Obama administration policies such as his version of health care reform are tactics of the pseudo intellectuals who are incapable of engaging in any argument of substance with anyone with a view opposite their own.

I find it amusing how all of you on the left claim to be the ones who are tolerant, compassionate and caring when it is you who are the truly intolerant, ignorant and in most cases, bigoted people who are incapable of engaging anyone with opposing views with any common sense or substance. I browse the comments posted here and rarely do I see anything of substance from those on the left who post here. You are in good company with your friends at the DNC and media organizations such as NBC, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NPR, Comedy Central and others that spew and defend indefensible leftist policies on a daily basis. Not one of you offer any substantive arguments that can counter the critics of government run health care that the Obama administration is trying to cram down our throats.
  • I love the smell of smugness in the evening!
Commoner, I'm so glad you're using so many stereotypes. If you can dismiss your opposition, it relieves you of any obligation to discuss their concerns. Disagreement with Administration policies does not mean that that those expressing their opinions are incapable of independent thought. However, I can understand how it's much more comforting to your innate sense of superiority to think so.

Unfortunately, to many liberals, "serious debate" means nothing more than agreeing with them.
  • David Scott
David Scott was to discuss Hwy 92 in Douglasville at the townhall meeting not healthcare and has scheduled a townhall meeting for Saturday on healthcare. You failed to mention the original purpose of the meeting Neal.
  • S#1F
    Nice, you've outdone yourself today.

Really, you should change your name though. I like Bird Brains #1 Fan best.
  • Health Care
All I have to say is that I am scared of my government and I am pretty sure its supposed to be the other way around!
  • makes perfect sense
7 out of 10 people are satisfied with their health care yet the government is ready to change it.
8 out of 10 people say we need our borders secured and the government does nothing.
  • Protests
I think I understand why politicians want the one on one meetings, this is just a hypothesis.
    1. To avoid the embarrassing media moments.
    2. Deniability.
    3. It is easier to convince one person of a bad idea than a group.
    4. This way you can pick and choose with whom you meet.
    5. So there is nothing on record that may come back to bite them in the hindquarters.
  • healthcare
. I read articles and books about the Constitution. I read and study the writings of the Founding Fathers. I’ve read the Federalist papers and the Anti. Would you please help me out and point to the article and section in the Constitution that refers to Federal healthcare as a “right”? Once you do this, then we can continue this discussion.
  • Sean
That was at a Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Raceway in California, not Woodstock.

    Point taken, though.
  • RE: hey commoner....
where the hell were you when all the code pink and left wing "organized disenters" and such were shouting down any conservative invited for a disscussion on campus or assaulting them with pies in the face.Where were you when peta activist threw red paint on fur wearers while screaming obscenely. oH yeah, you were defending their right to express free speech. "shrill activist, incapable of thought" describes your sides complete lack of capacity to debate or even acknowledge the facts.Your side has never respected anyone who disagrees with you while the right always backed down. These tatics have worked so well for the left and the right has finally said"ENOUGH!THERE IS SOME SH!T I WILL NOT EAT" maybe its time for your side to eat sh!t for a while.I hope you NEVER get use to the taste.
  • Civility! you want us to be nice as you steal from us?
Part of the population with the use of these politicians as tools are robbing the rest of society. On top of this they expect us to be civil and courtous to them as they rob from us!

This reminds me of Rand's 'willingness of the victim' theme in Atlas Shrugged.
That was Rearden's biggest flaw, he was too willing to take the hit for looters.
  • WV Town Hall
Neal, rumor has it that Sen. Jay Rockerfeller is going to have a "town hall" on the health care bill here in WV. The funny part is that it is rumored to be "by invitation only". Some town hall.
  • @Mike
It isn't about the cost. It is about the loss of quality and freedom.
  • Profit
$10 says Tgor99 doesn't know the difference between profit and profit margin.
  • RE: stans#1 fan and ivan
#1 fan, don't bother, you can spell it out for them but some still won't get it,no sense of humor.
Ivan,I'm sorry I use to think you were just trying be a present day Nosta-dumbass(sorry just kidding) Actually I think your making more and more sense every day.
  • Civil Process
Sadly, these town hall meetings are now a joke. I can hear some Teabagger telling their wife, time to get the homeschooled kids in the car and show the kids about democracy. We can show em' how instead of allowing anyone to speak that may disagree with our point of view, we will just yell moronically until the speaker walks away. Yep kids, this is how you participate in the civil process. Those darn teachers would a fed you full of government indoctrination about the civil way to elect your representives, voting and elections. Thank god and country that I home school you and can set this fine example.

Serious debate is needed not more shrill activists incapable of thought beyond what they heard on their favorite talk show host's program.
  • Protests
Wait until carde-check gets revived and passed. Then we will see REAL intimidation.
  • To snarkybird
Laugh all you want. This "shill" is going to help destroy the NWO. Of course you are gonna laugh, you are an Obamaton to the extreme. The difference between you and me is that I am honest. You want to dance around the issues and protect your leader. Revolution is coming to these United States. We will take back our country. I am not prepared to roll over for these elites as you so obviously are. You know I think it is so funny that you would defend Obama againt the likes of Alex Jones cause for every 1 dollar given back to the American people Obama is giving 30 dollars to the international bankers. Shame on you. For someone that claims to love America you sure are lousy at standing up to it's enemies. You do realize that Obama is still funding Blackwater aka Xe right? Is that change you can believe in? The truth is that Alex Jones has been dead on on these issues. Can't say the same about the White House that has been wrong on all their forecasts.
  • Centennial Park Health Insurance Fight
Shout at slimy Democrats between 1 and 4pm on Saturday.

    http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=120169300893
  • Goons
I guess some people thought asking Hell's Angels to run security at Woodstock was a good idea.
  • reivan
    LOL

so that's it? you're just a shill for Alex Jones?

    figures...

And I get called a troll. Oh the irony...
  • Townhall this weekend?
Did I hear David Scott correctly? Did he say there was going to be a townhall at Mundy's Mill Highschool in Jonesboro on Saturday from 10-2? There is no info on his website, perhaps if others (or show staff) can confirm, it can be actually publicized elsewhere.
  • Oh gee whiz...
Again I have been right on this issue. I have mentioned in the past that the Dems would incite violence and claims of racism to force through their agendas. What we are witnessing here is the final preparations for the creation of the New World Order. Everyone here should go to www.infowars.com so you and your loved ones can be informed in the months moving forward.
  • I used to despise Scott for his thinking on more than just gun control...
...but something he said and did a while back (that I can't even remember right now) impressed me. I have to agree to disagree with him almost always. I think he's mostly wrong, not bad.

    I miss Hosea Williams.
  • Stan's #1 Fan
Good one, but I do not know if most people will get it. After all most of us are Govt Educated. Luckily some of us are intelligent enough to have overcome that handicap.
  • Hey copyleft's copy
Why Not Just GIVE Your Paycheck Completly to The Government. Then they Can Pay For What They Think Should Be Paid For You!!!! You'll Be Deeper In Debt Than You'll Want To Be. All Hail The Government Sugar Daddy!
  • Discussion...
I have watched a LOT of these town hall meetings, partly because (unfortunately) what these people are saying NEEDS to be said, but mostly because I like to see politicians squirm.

What I have seen are people repeatedly asking legitimate questions that these politicians are either unwilling, or unable (probably the latter) to answer.

If asking these questions is DISRUPTIVE to their socialist agenda and talking points, I say GOOD! If they don't want to own up to what they're doing and have an honest discussion. If they want to marginalize us and say we're unamerican, racist, or whatever other knee-jerk, emotionally charged epithet they can think of, fine. They will soon find out they themselves have fallen into the trap of underestimating us.

We aren't those spineless so-called republicans on capitol hill. We will NOT be intimidated. This isn't a game we're playing. This is about saving our country.

I'm 41 years old and I have NEVER seen so many AMERICANS so pi$$ed off at the government at once. Even my liberal friends are looking at this administration and scratching their heads. Trying to remember when Obama mentioned all of this stuff in the campaign.

So to all you spineless politicians canceling your town meetings... Ignore us at your own peril.
  • Typical
Typical Alinsky-ite strategy - isolate, personalize, ridicule, and demonize your enemy. I watch CNN, MSLSD and others just to see what they were saying about this. They are all on Axelrod talking point - demonize the protesters, question whether they are real or fake, ridicule them by saying they are the ones who don't know the facts. What this method also accomplishes is that it actually turns the debate away from the details of the turd HC bill to whether or not these protesters are organized. The questions is "Who cares if they are organized"? How does that take away from the questions being asked of these braindead lib politicians??

Funny how they are against organized protests when their own purple-lipped dolt in the White House's only job was a community organizer.

Needless to say, if I attend one of these town halls and one of these union thugs touches me, I swear to you right here, I will knock their teeth out.
  • The public smells a rat.....
In the 1960's, during the passage of the Great Society legislation, the issue of health care (actually, PAYING for health care) was addressed by starting Medicare for the elderly (retired, off their employers' plans), and Medicaid for the poor.

Both of those programs have had 40 years to prove themselves, and both are upside-down and headed for bankruptcy (not actually, just another band-aid bailout).
So now the federal government wants to start another program to replace the dismal failure they have in place already. They promise it will be different this time. Just give us $1.5 Trillion and all will be well.

And yes, I declared Medicare and Medicaid to be failures. The recipients complain about procedures not being covered and doctors complain about the low pay for seeing these patients. And the watchdogs complain about rampamt fraud in billings (probably by doctors who are just trying to get paid what they think their time is worth).
Health care 'insurance' reform is just another boondoggle vote-buying program.
The people need to continue to DEMAND that their Rep's vote NO on this fiasco.
  • @Tgor99
Tgor99 is right. I'd much rather pay for the huge overhead of government than the small sliver of profit the private sector receives in business. It may not be cheaper, but it's moral...not that I'd advocating imposing morality through the law.
  • Race Baiting Again
If you listen carefully to Scott as he spoke with Neil, he stated that this was a meeting for a African American Community Issue, not for the general public. I can just imagine how he would react if we wanted to have a meeting based on a caucasion Community Issue. Would he react the same when the blacks spoke up? Typical Democrat Race Baiter in my opinion. Neil, your wrong about this guy. He is typical lib / race pimp.
  • The Charlie Scott
It's not a question of believing polls. I believe the polls. I just have a problem with the results when they happen to conflict with my own views (logic, common sense, and adherence to our constitution). Fortunately, the dumb masses occasionally get it right. And I have to say that I'm proud of my inferiors with their loud protests and bold defiance in the face of tyranny. It's about time for the pitchforks, I say.
  • Note
Have there been any of these town hall meetings where a Republican was shouted down? Seems like its Dems who are getting yelled at. And we all know why- the public does not want this plan!
  • Townhalls
Saw the video in the news this morning... someone has to remind the Congressman that the people are the ones who elected them and put them in office... so ummm yeah they work for the people!!
  • Minor correction
Democrats are shell-shocked. They truly cannot believe that this is happening to them. Just last February they were participating in a coronation that was to usher in a new age of Government...

Inauguration Day is now in February? I didn't get the memo that January 20 ceased being the day they swear the president into office. So much for inferior government school education :)
  • Let the games begin
While I would prefer the actual protests remain outside the meetings, if the reps refuse to address health care or if they start out by telling us we're misinformed and fearmongers, let the games begin.

Our representatives have become removed from the electorate by choice. Both parties have been treating their constituents as children, not adults, far too long. If it takes shouting to get their attention, that's on them, not us. Sitting at home and writing a letter to your rep just isn't effective anymore.
  • Healthcare
    So Neal,
How much does the in$urance industry pay you to support the malfunctioning status quo? Your being comfortable with your current coverage doesn't mean the system isn't seriously broken. Look at the profit margins of the insurance industry now, and 15 years ago. Interesting, yes? Profit is OK, but at the expense of the lives of the populace, not so much.
  • @Keith
I agree with Stan. IShouldn't you be out there stalking your local representative? AI heard they might want to give you free food! MI heard a rumor that they want to guarantee housing for you should you lose yours! AQuick, you better stalk your Senator and demand they stop horrible things like food and housing! JWe wouldn't want people to actually be able to live in your neocon utopia of fearmongering! OYou hate filled, racist. KI am glad Nealz Nuze is here. EIt proves that you people really do exist.
  • Now we believe the polls
We always believe the polls when they say what we want to hear.
  • No Unions Allowed At Town Hall Meetings.
Next Thing You'll Know The Dems Will Demand Proof That You Live In Their District Before They Will Talk To You. I Thought, According To The Dems, That Anybody Could Vote In Their Districts. Now They Don't What To Talk To Anybody??? And The Dems Wonder Why "We The People" Don't Like Unions!!!! The Unions Are NO GOOD!!
  • Scott
I listened to him, and it has not changed my opinion of him as a complete and utter capital D Demohack, and when Pelosi says jump he replies "how high".
  • the truth would hurt
It's not like Democrats can say the protestors are citizens with legitimate concerns, and they certainly can't outright admit they want to be big brother.
  • I am all for discussions
I am all for discussions on health care. I understand poeple are mad as hell about it. They have a first ammendment right to express themselves. All that said there are a lot of people attending these who do not want a discussion. They do not want to rationally speak to the problme with it. They are there to shut down the event. They are the republican / conservative equivolent of the Code Pink loonies on the left. I'm sure a large percentage of these protesters are sincere in their beliefs but there is a vocal minority wihtin their ranks who are nothing more than Republican shills. The far fringes on both sides are wingnuts.
  • These tactics have been used before
Accuse me of fear mongering if you want, but this is really starting to bother me. I'm a student of the history of Nazi Germany and one of the things the Nazi party did in the period before the Nazi's took power was enlist "brawlers" to become members of the S.A. The job of the S.A. "toughs" was to physically put down opposition to the party. This is what seems to be happening here. Hitler had said many times that the population would always "yeild to the strong" and apparently the Democrats are putting this truism to use. And to think, they call us Nazis.
  • If a few "unorganized" protesters.......
are upseting the obamatrons then what do you think would happen if we really get 1/2 as organized as they think we are. VIVA THE REVOLUTION!
  • If Your Rep Won't Hold a Town Hall....
...then you hold one, and invite everyone! Here is the time for ordinary citizens to take back the nation. Even if the meeting is to touch on key points of the bill, everyone has a right to voice an opinion and know what is in this monstrosity. Let me also say that even with the deck stacked, we have many so called "health care supporters" out there. Notice, even the ones wearing the Obama shirts and union shirts cannot formulate a cogent sentence about what the bill is about. They can't explain why they support the government option. They cannot answer specific questions about this house bill.

This is a grand opportunity for "up and coming" opposition leaders to take the reigns and have a town hall of their own!!! They might just win some support for 2010!
  • He used to be my rep...
that is... until things were redistricted. Thank God I'm under Linder now.

Seriously, as a white male whose ancestors used to be slave owners, anyone seeking slave reparations scares the crap out of me.

I had NOTHING to do with that and I would have been fighting against slavery had I been alive then. I don't owe anybody anything for what my ancestors did.
  • Stan's #1 Fan - Another Wacko
Stan's #1 Fan - How can you hide behind your computer and call this Doctor a stalker. So it is now wrong to call to find out when a town hall meeting is being held. Then if you do call, you should not attend because you are "stalking" the person? That makes no sense. How are you suppose to know about them if you don't call or look on the internet. Is finding the time on the internet first stalking also? Try thinking before you try to act tough while commenting.
  • Scott
Rep David Scott will never be defeated in a General election because of the gerrymandering of his district.
  • David Scott
If you watch the full tirade, you will see Scott's assistant call the doctor by name and asks him to call again.

This is just a precious liberal diatribe.
  • Now the conservatives are doing it
Does anyone remember how silly the democrats looked when they were the ones whining and crying?
Congratulations, you have taken cry baby to a whole new level.
At least we are spending the money that we don't have "here" and not on the middle east.
Spend 800 billion anywhere but here and thats fine. Spend money here and we throw a fit. As much as I hate to say it, i'm thinking there may be something to just hating the pres because he's black.
  • Liberal hypocrisy...
Where's the outrage when a conservative speaker is shouted down on a university campus, or when Hillary Clinton held one of her "attendance limited to supporters only" press conferences?
  • David Scott's own website poll
Look at the results of this poll from David Scott's own website. Granted, it's not a scientific poll, but it's worth noting. Maybe he should start listening to his constituents.

What is your health insurance status?

    Lost coverage or no coverage
    0.68 % (53)

    In medical debt/bankruptcy
    0.06 % (5)

My plan is becoming too expensive
    0.73 % (57)

Denied coverage due to pre-existing condition
    0.18 % (14)

Stuck in current plan with no other option
    0.39 % (30)

    Satisfied with my current plan
    97.95 % (7612)
  • Punching back
Apparently Rep. Scott, who we are told is normally a mild-tempered person, was just being a good little Obamaton, following the orders from the White House, regurgitating the talking points handed to him, and "punching back twice as hard".
  • Democrats Trying to Avoid Town Hall Meetings
Corrine Brown, the Democrat Representative from Florida's 3rd District, has opted to host a "Tele-Town Hall meeting" instead of a live meeting where she will answer questions via the phone to avoid the opposition to healthcare being seen in other town hall meetings around the country. I would like to see Neal post his opinions on this issue.
  • Rep. Scott
I agree with Stan. Rep. Scott was probably scared for his life when he found out that some rabid rightwinger was stalking him. The neocon even admitted calling him up to find out if he was holding any townhalls! Then the guy starts following him to events unrelated to health insurance reform. It's pretty creepy if you ask me, and Rep. Scott ought to be considered a saint for not getting a restraining order against the guy. Isn't this how that woman killer in PA started out? Women wouldn't date him so he decided to kill them all at the LA Fitness? When are we going to hear about some heckler hating all politicians to the point that they decide to shoot a bunch? It's going to happen. I'm glad to see the Democrats have hired "union goons" to bust a few people in the face for disobedience because the people need to fear their politicians so that the politicians don't have to fear the people. Got it?
  • Democrats
They're whole super-majority is impotent. If they support Obama, they lose big time because nobody wants socialized medicine. If they don't support Obama, he's not able to pull off any more marxist takeovers. Either way, congress gets balanced next November because there are about 50 million voters out there who are finally reaching their threshold of too much government.
  • wow
    actual reporting from the media
    im starting to get shocked
    and this is NBC!!!!
  • Time To Mail Your Congressperson
Some Astroturf (Or A Piece Of Rug If You Have It) And A DEAD FISH To Their District And Washington Offices. Also, Send The Same Present To The White House. These People Are Suppose To Work For Us, "WE THE PEOPLE"!!!!
  • Protests
On CNN web site there is a Poll asking If protests at town hall meeting are; Being orchestrated by lobbyists, or Ordinary citizens expressing their opinions, and so far too many people believe that they are organized. This just makes me angry and want to go to a town hall. And I an ordinary citizen.
  • full revolt...
Im loving this. The people fighting to preserve the concept of the rule of law. No where in the constitution does it permit Obama to do what he is doing. The government is basically in a state of lawlessness. I have to wonder if the memberships of the different state militias are increasing?
  • Rep. David Scott
This man is getting really ridiculous. last night on CNN, around 10 pm, he was a guest, by phone, and the doctor who questioned him was in studio. All Rep. Scott could do was talk off message and never once directly addressed the doctor. Plus it was also nice that as he kept leading up to the interview, he guy form CNN compared the Town Hall Protests and Protests to an episode of Jerry Springer. This is a guy that is just supposed to read the news. Rep. Scott is a joke. It makes me embarrassed that he represents me and the fact that he was in my hometown doing that. However, the doctor is also from my area and he makes me proud. Its a Catch-22. It's time to vote him out.
