Senator Tom Coburn answers ten questions that politicians won't answer about healthcare reform.

The White House has decided to open its own website to combat 'myths' about the Democrat healthcare plan.

This new White House "Reality Check" website says that Obama's healthcare plan "would not add one penny to the deficit." Back up a minute .. that is simply not true.

Yesterday a caller on the show asked me to look up Rahm Emanuel's brother Ezekiel "Zeke" Emanuel and see how he could influence Obama's healthcare debate.

Guess what we get to look forward to by the end of this year? Another debate on immigration reform!

Where did the money for the bank bailout go? Well ... watchdogs can't really tell you. That's government for ya!

The Democrats have found a source of support for their healthcare reform efforts. George Soros is going to pump $5 million into getting this thing passed.

Recent Gallup polls found that 41% of Americans believe that the media greatly exaggerates global warming.

A recent Rasmussen poll found that 32% of Americans support a single-payer healthcare system, while 57% oppose it.

The federal government is holding back $100 million in oil drilling leases because of environmental protests and lawsuits.

The Democrats are the ones complaining out astroturfing .. and yet they are the ones offering money to organize and get this healthcare bill passed.

$50 million of federal economic stimulus funds is going to be used by NASA to develop commercial passenger transport to space.

How many of the lost jobs in July can be attributed to the increase in the minimum wage?

What others are saying

  • To Mike for IBD link
Thanks for the link. Great info there.

I think people are forgetting what the REAL issue is with Obamacare...the federal government has NO PLACE in the private affairs of it's citizens EXCEPT to DEFEND their right to privacy. Anything else is INTRUSION and should not/will not be tolerated.

If you folks who are so gung ho for Obamacare would pass the hat for your neighbors we wouldn't even be having the discussion. But no, you're the "I hope you brought enough for everybody" crowd. Guess what? I DIDN'T!

I don't take kindly to my paycheck being hijacked to pay for someone else' health problems. I'm not here to worry about you and yours so keep your PAWS OFF my "stuff".
  • "Immigration reform"
When the administration announces that the next thing they'll be focusing on is "immigration reform", it's a veiled threat to the Hispanic community. "Get behind us on the healthcare issue, or we just may not see things your way when we start talking about immigration."

    Disgusting!
  • “Another” debate on immigration reform? When did we have the first one?
The dp has to own the msm to be so blatant in their hypocrisy in falsely accusing the GOP and health care industry of what the dp has done all along, is doing now, and obviously intends to continue doing in the future. It’s funny in that whorunsgov article how they put, “Soros — whose operation carefully guards the privacy of such donations…” I notice they aren’t so understanding of the “privacy” of ALL “such donations,” just those by leftists and/or to leftist causes.

Apparently, 32% of Americans are freeloaders, and 57% aren’t.

Like I always said, if they can and will stop drilling in ANWR, they can and will stop it anywhere.

They can’t tell us where that bailout money went, but we should trust them with the additional $20 trillion bailout money they say they still need for the bailout, not to mention our health care system. They are trying to shove as much as they can down our throats before the first of it hits our stomach, which means they know themselves the results will be disastrous.
  • Doc
Insurance is not perfect, but I trust them a heck of a lot more than government.

We just need to get the insurance companies to reform their modus operandi.

    ok?
  • Voice of Treason
I didn't say he was the only one who uses a teleprompter.

Apparently you see what you want to see...typical of your ilk.
  • Tshirt-doctor
You are kidding, right? Since when is Al Jazeera a credible news source? I would consider the source and discount everything in such a source as deliberate distortion of the information.
  • Al Jazeera
As U.S. news media coverage focuses on the political troubles of President Barack Obama’s health-care proposals, the English-language side of the Arab network, Al Jazeera, looked at the human tragedy behind the dysfunctional U.S. medical insurance system.

Al Jazeera’s “Fault Lines” program followed the story from a rural U.S. community receiving care from an international agency that normally visits Third World countries to an interview with a former Cigna executive who quit in disgust over the industry’s profit-obsessed system that leaves people to die.

The English-language side of the Arab network, Al Jazeera, examines the political struggle -- drenched in special interest money -- that is being waged to stop or dilute President Barack Obama's proposals for overhauling U.S. health care.

In a second part of an investigative report, Al Jazeera’s “Fault Lines” program traces the battle as it rages in the halls of Congress, with foot soldiers from the medical industry coming armed with hefty donations to key members of Congress. Industry lobbyists, the report notes, are spending $1.4 million a day.

you wanna watch everything on this, or your gonna get only one people's lies.
  • Obama zombie
Obama can't string together a coherent sentence without me. I break down, so does he.
  • @ "Voice of reason"
Disinformation? Like the propaganda hard sell of Obama's socialist health care plan?
Try having a conversation with a left wing moonbat, hell bent on squelching freedom of speech and any opposition to the rotten bill of goods being sold by the Democrats.
Pelosi calls us "nazis", when it's GOVERNMENT thugs like the SEIU who are trying to intimidate dissenters from voicing their opinion.
That’s why they’re cancelling meetings, locking their doors, and closing the curtains when we confront them on their hypocrisy and rubberstamping the policies of a dangerous socialist megalomaniac.
For eight years during GW's tenure,we endured some of the most mealy-mouthed, rabid, vulgar protests, ever. “Dissent is patriotic”, remember?
Okay, well now we’re dissenting. The only way to get the attention of a jackass is to smack it with a 2×4. Consider our protests a big hunk of wood to their skulls.
There's nothing positive about this socialist regime. There's nothing positive about Obama's tax/spend orgy that will result in a 23.7 trillion dollar deficit. There's nothing positive about this bill.
Under a single payer system, you won’t get a choice. It’s the government’s discretion, not yours. Ask yourself why so many people are up in arms over the Democrats’ shoving this monstrosity down our throats. Aside from the outrageous spending involved, it will place even more burden on the already overwhelmed taxpayer. It will give total control of your healthcare to the government. They will decide your fate. They will decide if you’re ’sick enough’ to warrant treatment, what kind of treatment you’ll receive and which doctor you will have. With the masive influx of government-mandated patients, quality of care will nosedive.
No one will get a choice. Except for the elected officials. Do you think for one nanosecond that they will subject themselves to the same system as the masses? I, and millions of other American refuse to goosestep to Dear Leader’s programs. Obama’s policies are chock full of socialist ideology. His mentors, friends, and associates include William Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis, and Saul Alinsky. He injects his ideology into every decision he makes. We will never relinquish free-market enterprise in favor of total government control. Not only no, but hell no. Most of us still advocate the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
I don't have to "Just listen to this guy on the radio" or "just read this one email" and "you know the truth". I
All I have to do is hear what Obama says, watch what he does, and READ THE BILL to know that he's a liar.
The Democrats are now the ones being forced to listen.
  • Response to Capt. Walker
Saying illegal aliens are good for the economy because they create wealth is like saying a mobster run trash collection company is good for a community because they create jobs! A healthy capitalist system has to be based on, among many other things, the respect for the rule of law.
While I agree that we need some sort of immigration reform, I don't see handing out guest worker visas to the 'undocumented' population encourages respect for the law, no matter how much wealth they create.
  • Emmanuel
    Neal and others-
Investors Business Daily editorials shed a little more light on the influence of Rahm's brother in this article: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=334799904390510 . He is one of the main proponents of the quality of life debate when it comes to providing healthcare.
  • For the astroturfed pro-government protestors
Neal, we should try to unionize these protestors. After all, they should earn a living wage and have all the protections the folks hiring them have. It is only the fair thing to do.
  • Mike
Mike, the poll says 32% want a "single payor system." Most people want reform, the disagreement is how to reform it. A single payor system is not the only way.
  • Teleprompters
/I believe that a man who needs a teleprompter is a man whose words are not his own/

I'd like to ask the zombies who seem so obsessed with the teleprompter:

Since when in modern times have presidents not used a teleprompter and for that matter when was the last time a president actually wrote his own speeches?
  • Immigration reform creates wealth!
Neal, this is about the only area where we disagree. Because I'm a greedy capitalist, I want immigration reform. If you look around Atlanta and see all of the visible wealth that migrant workers have created in the past decade, it would be a big benefit to employers, landlords, retailers, car dealers, etc. if the undocumented population could get guest worker visas. It doesn't have to be a path to citizenship, just permission to work.

Seal the borders so our economy doesn't become dependent on another ten million illegal customers and employees, but let's not wreck our current economy by shutting out the millions here that did raise the dollar tide for all of us.
  • Yeah Mike
I can see 35mil supporting 10mil, those are the same losers that keep voting in big government. but it's less than the number of votes for Obama in the election so maybe that number is decreasing! hmmmm facts can be hard

Don't try to be snarky here, we already have one of those.
  • Death Panels
I don't understand the big stink about "Death Panels," we already have them working for us 24/7, they're called "Insurance Companies!"
  • Tom Coburn's article
Very good article but they still do not want to address tort reform or roll back regulations that limit ins co's from offering endorsements specific to consumers needs.
  • Obama's speech on immigration
He said there would be some "demagogues" (im sure i didn't spell that right, who cares).

I'm getting real sick and tired of these arrogant a**es in Washington calling us names! Whether we voted for you or not, our taxes are paying your salaries and we deserve a little more respect! You aren't getting any until then!

Close the borders, send them all home. If a business just HAS to have some, they can submit paperwork to bring in a workforce, that is registered, background checked, and having taxes withheld. No family members!

And we really need to revisit this loophole "anchor baby".

If we just let everyone in, what is the point of being an American? At that point we're all just North Americans.
  • White House Website
“We have to expand coverage and bring down costs for families …” –That sounds an awful lot like Joe Biden. “We have to spend money to stop from going bankrupt.”

A nice review of the White House's FAQ on health care here: http://bsinamerica.blogspot.com/
  • Where did the money from the bank bailouts go?
Try this one on for size!
Judge Rakoff has this one right. Corporations are essentially pieces of paper (legal documents), they can't lie! Sure, sue the bejesus out of BOA, but find out who lied for the company and prosecute them for fraud! It just never fails to amaze me how truly lame the SEC is when it comes to punishing the wrong doers in a public corporation and 'protecting' investors! Oh, by the way... BOA received a welfare check from us taxpayers! Thanks, GWB!

  • Shadow Government?
I believe that a man who needs a teleprompter is a man whose words are not his own. With that in mind here's some interesting info on George Soros:
    http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977
  • Minimum Wage
If the proponents of the Minimum Wage had the courage of their convictions, they would raise the MW to 25 an hour and they could all go home congratulating themselves on eliminating poverty in our time.

Why so cheap you guys? Show some spine and follow your ideology to its logical stupid conclusion.
  • Well there are your numbers
According to the post by Neal on his own site. Rassumusen poll showing 32% want health care reform. Let me do the math for you. 32% of 300 million is 96 million people. Lets say that half are un-insured putting us right back to 45 million. Or do you want to say that 35 million people are sticking up for the other 10 million? Pretty un-likely huh?
Gosh numbers and facts are hard.
  • Zeke
    Neal,
I'm not sure Wikipedia is your "best" source for infomation on anybody.
  • Website
Actually I am glad to see the website come along. There is so much disinformation out there that we need this and even more credible sources of information.

The problem is that you cannot have a conversation with the right wing, paranoid, survivalist, yahoo, zombies if that conversation in any way is positive about Obama. They simply won't hear it. "Just listen to this guy on the radio" or "just read this one email" and "you know the truth". I hear this all the time. Yesterday I checked out the allegations made by a popular talk radio host against the healthcare bill (and I actually read the parts in question). The hosts allegations were either totally false, total exagerations, he read things into the bill that were not there, or made something typical seem like something sinister. "so and so on the radio said it and that settles it" seems to be the matra of these zombies
