QUESTIONING TERROR SUSPECTS

Another goodie from the White House. Let's see how you feel about this one.

Barack Obama has decided that the task of interrogating terrorists and terrorist suspects should be left up to the White House, rather than the CIA. Obama has created an "elite team" of interrogators that will question suspects in accordance with the Army Field Manual. The name of the unit will be the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, or HIG. The unit will be overseen by the National Security Council, which gives the White House direct oversight. The rules are that all interrogation of terrorist suspects must be interrogated in compliance with the terms of the Army Field Manuel. Does that tell you enough? Well ... here's more. This means that if you catch some Muslim goon who you absolutely know is involved in a plot to kill a few thousand innocent Americans; and if you are dead-on certain that this individual has information on the details of this plot, but he refuses to talk ---- we cannot deprive him of any sleep or play loud music to encourage him. Loud music and sleep deprivation are, I suppose, defined by Team Obama as "torture."

Is anyone keeping a scorecard here? First we learn that the White House is going to seize control of the 2010 Census. We know that this is so the census can be politicized and the numbers of people prone to vote Democrat can be inflated. Now we learn that the Obama White House is going to have its own Presidential Unit for Safe Suspect Interrogation.

Interesting acronym there.

What others are saying

  • Presidential office to oversee interrogations?
Let's face it: We've lost this war already thanks to these spineless, self-interested blowhards in Washington almost willing to be the first to concede defeat in order to appear "compassionate."

All of those blood, sweat, and tears for NOTHING! Now, we've not only emboldened our enemies, but give a gilded, engraved invitation to attack anyone and anything in the US at will. All you have to do is stir up some bad press that causes a politican's career to be threatened.

I've had enough. Thanks, baby boomers. You finally brought the country to its knees.
  • Media lies
The mainstream media has learned to lie with headlines. Here are just two examples from the weekend.

"Toyota Refuses To Build Electric Car!" Yet the article immediately states Toyota will have an electric car on the market in 2012.

"CIA Threatened Detainee's Family!" This one is as grey as it gets. No member of the detainee's family received a threat. Only the detainee was threatened. The CIA told the detainee that his family would be harmed. Actually HARMING his family would have been heinous. But all they did was lie to him about it. So now we can't even tell a suspected terrorist a lie in an effort to get information? Gee whiz, Wally!

The media counts on the fact that a lot of people just skim the headlines and don't actually read the stories. The headlines lie. The media lies.
  • @JB
JB, we ARE better than the enemy. The enemy cuts off the heads of their captives. The enemy sets their captives' bodies on fire and hangs them from bridges. They probably laugh at what we call 'torture'.
  • Libertarian?
How do you even claim to be a libertarian if you think that this is worse than what Bush and Cheney's people were doing? Not respecting the Geneva convention or US laws, let alone any sense of morality ? I thought that these people claimed to be Christians, and yet they tortured someone 186 times in order to provoke false confessions and start a war. Sorry Neal, you're less credible than Olbermann.
  • RE: Redefining torture

    (Not for faint-of-heart leftist weenies)
  • JB
"And yes, I probably would feel different if torture meant the difference between saving someone I love or not saving them."

anyone we save is most likely loved by someone.
  • to quote
"Scott Hinderaker believes that democracy fails when it tries to keep its executive branch from violating the rule of law by authorizing the brutal torture and abuse of thousands of prisoners, many innocent. Let that sink in. It is part of the failure of democracy, in Hinderaker's view, that it doesn't empower the government to do anything it wants to do in the name of national security.

To put it bluntly, this is the classic fascist critique of liberal democracy. Fascists have always criticized democratic restraints on executive war-power, even when that war power is specifically designed to include citizens and to apply across the territory of the homeland as well as anywhere on the globe. As for the torture techniques previously used by the Gestapo, the Communist Chinese, the Soviet Gulag, and the Vietnamese, Hinderaker believes these were all "reasonably humane." What was done to John McCain, in Hinderaker's view, was humane, and certainly not torture; and what McCain was forced to confess was as reliable as the tortured confessions we now see on Iranian television.

Understanding the current right's embrace of total state power against the individual takes time to absorb. But liberal democracy has no more dangerous enemies than these." - Andrew Sullivan

    Quite right.
  • Redefining torture
Yeah, 'cause we all know how awful it would be to have Metallica played constantly while not being allowed to sleep, then asked questions. I'm sorry, I really don't get the liberal concept of what torture is and the whole 'moral equivalency' game. We aren't talking about Boyscouts who got lost on their way to Jamboree. To me, having to listen to Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, and Henry Waxman constitutes torture. The ACLU isn't protecting me from them.
  • What do you suppose the reaction from the dp/msm would have been if President Bush had done this?
White House special interrogation unit not subject to congressional oversight, just light it, step back, and watch the fireworks. They’d be in full freakout before dinner. The dp congressional leadership’s reaction to this will be interesting. I can’t see them going along with it, even if they’re fraud certain they will be reelected and hold the executive branch perpetually. It’s a threat to their power.

The dp/msm had no problem with the use of lights, noise, and sleep deprivation on the women and children in koresh’s compound, no one was fired, much less prosecuted for that. Torture is okay with the dp/msm, if used on Americans outside the left’s protected and privileged groups.

Hussein’s ‘elite interrogators’ will be as effective on islamic terrorists as his ‘diplomacy,’ if he’s telling the truth. “Sir, please tell us where the nuke is, or there may be no seconds for dessert tonight, and no conjugal visits from your goat for a week!”
  • Actually Gregg
It would be closer to having the Gestapo...the SS would be more in line with SEIU and other Obama unions; just without the snazzy uniforms.
  • Gregg & John
    White House Interrogation Team
Hitler also created his own special Interrogation Team. It was called the SS.
    By Gregg

    Now THAT is scary!

John and others, did you know that only 5 of the over 30 czars have been vetted by the FBI? Who are these people? What is their salary? What kind of staff do they get?
  • torture team
Dealing with the WH morons would certainly qualify as torture!
  • Why not appoint a "torture czar"?
I mean, we have a "czar" for everything else, don't we?
  • definition of torture
"Torture" is sort of vague. "Maiming" carries the same definition, but it's more precise. Basically if you cause permanent damage, you have successfully tortured/maimed a person.

"Discomfort" is a word that is now being associated with torture, which is incorrect. I am a huge advocate of "discomfort", which includes beatings, temperature change, loud music, water-boarding, and gay porno (unless of course the detainee is queer, which probably accounts for a large number of Islamaniacs).

In the grand scheme of things, none of this makes a shiite's difference. Just like the uninsured recipients of health care reform, Obama doesn't really give a flying shiite about the welfare of Guantanamo detainees. Alterior motives rule this administration. If you don't believe that, you are one of the dumb-masses.
  • If this crap keeps up
we'll be fighting wars with rubber swords.
I won't apologize to the limp wrists out there like O'Butthead and his lying, thieving, cowardly fan club for saying that when you go to fight you fight to win at any and all cost. You go to war in a street fight, someone is gonna get thier ass kicked (and maybe even killed these days). But you punch, you kick, you scratch, you go for any vulnerablility you can find. In the case of a global street fight, that includes the most effective interrogation of captives you can dream up. My friends, that don't include 'nice'.
  • White House Interrogation Team
Hitler also created his own special Interrogation Team. It was called the SS.

  • Who told you that!!!!!!! They should be shot!
"there are Martians occupying the basement of the Capitol Building in Atlanta".

  • torture
Thanks Butt Neckid. My child gets back this week from Iraq.
I know I would probably have a much different view if my circumstances were different. I guess my point is that our country should STRIVE to be better than the enemy. I am not stupid enough to think that things are different when you are under the gun. But at least we should hope that we could get the info without the torture. But, as you said (maybe in a different manner), a man's gotta do what he's gotta do and I don't for a second want to second-guess our folks who are in charge of this mess. They do a magnificent job considering all the crap they deal with every day. But could we at least agree that we need to do our best not to use torture as the primary means of getting info from the enemy? And I say a prayer for my child and every other child who is in that mess in Iraq, Afghanistan and GOD knows wherever else we have troops.
  • how did you find...................................
JB.........who told you 'bout them lil' critters in the basement???????????

I don't kno' how Ivan gets his info but........sometimes he makes sense. we all have a suspicious nature when it comes to the gubmint......even when it don't make any sense at all......wait I'm talkin' 'bout the gubmint...when did it ever make sense???????????

the only thing they(gubmint) do well is pay our young warriors on time....and the reason for that is..... "alla dem guns".........other wise who needs 'em...
  • I can understand.....................................
JB............I kno' what you meant but let's look at it from a different angle....

make believe that our young warriors are in fact your chillin'.........now I kno' your flesh and blood is serving, and tell him/her ol' butt neckid said thank you for your service to your nation, and ain't servin' alone so any bad things that happen in their area affect you too. worried???? no matter what branch or area they serve they are subject to be placed in harms way.....sure you worry, don't! they are with shipmates, foxhole friends and they are lookin' out for each other....when stuff hits the fan there is nuttin' better then havin' those kinda peeple around.....

don't forget to say thanks from ol' uncle butt......

if you are a believer a lil' prayer now and then probably won't hurt......
  • Don't Be Scared
Don't be scared Klubber Lang. I will protect you. I won't let those Christians get you. Remember when we went to the paul mcCartney show, and we held each other tight and whispered nothings into each others empty heads. You told me to call you Flubber Wang. I said tee hee. Next time you get scared think of me.
  • QUESTIONING TERROR SUSPECTS
    Where is Jack Bauer?
  • Obama Children
Wonder how this high value team would operate if the Obama children were kidnapped and they had one suspect who in all probability knew where the girls were?
  • Ivan, state your source
Ivan, please state the source of your information where you state "Hell Dick Cheney had his own CIA hit squad." Statements like this, when unsupporrted by FACTS are the exact reason we have such a mess in our country. People (including talk-show hosts and guests) make statements that are unfounded and then those statements get reported as facts. If you have proof, then I support your right to state that but unless you have proof, then that statement holds about as much credence as "there are Martians occupying the basement of the Capitol Building in Atlanta".
  • Use of torture
I have a child serving in the military and I also served. My objection to the use of torture is based on the fact that when the US allows our interrogators to torture prisoners of war (which is really what these people are), then we in effect OK the use of those techniques by our enemies. There are thousands of arguments for the use of torture and there are thousands of arguments against the use of torture. But to me, the one reason we should not use it is - WE ARE AMERICANS. We hold ourselves to be just a bit better than our enemies. Along with that thought comes responsibility - responsibility to act better than our enemy.
While torture MAY yield results, one has to wonder if, in the end, those results are actually worth the cost. And yes, I probably would feel different if torture meant the difference between saving someone I love or not saving them. But, hey, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
  • one more option........................................
well if you can't interrogate 'em then just shoot 'em......

that lil' bit of wisdom came from a recent returnee from the wonderful land of islam.....a senior NCO of the USMC and a warrior thru 'n thru.....

I had the plesure of entertaining several of our young (compared to my age) warriors this last weekend....beer, booze, broads and bar-b-que.......a good time was had by all....

several of my old shipmates came and added old sea stories to the war tales of our youngsters.......I have enuff fertilizer to last 2 life times.....but one thing was made clear......even if it's against policy.....no prisoneers....see one squeeze one off...many of my guests were field grade officers and senior nco's....the rest of them were the real grunts and know the mean streets of the desert....

I am proud to know these guys.....
  • WH taking over suspect interogation
When will the country wake up?! This extreme liberal admin is slowly taking away control of everything and housing it under the WH with no resistance what so ever. First the absorption of the census and now this. It is possible to eat an elephant; one small bite at a time until eventually everything is gone except the bones and the memory of how magnificent it once was. The people of Germany never caught on to what Hitler was up to either until it was too late. I'm not making a direct comparison of Obama to Hitler (so don't try to construe it that way) - just providing an analogy of how an entire country can be fooled into believing all this change is for the common good. He won't stop until he has all the power of the government under one White House roof. I'm still waiting for him to attempt to overturn the presidential term limits, (just like his buddy Zalaya)and all the Dems will just roll over for their presidential belly rubbing.
  • @Jack in Dayton, Ohio
    Jack,
You're off your meds, aren't you?
  • Is this...
Is this the tail wagging the dog in an attempt to distract us from the healthcare debacle?
  • @ Jack in Dayton
Hey Jack, we're mostly adults here,no need to candy coat your post. LOL. AMEN Brother.

    @Dark Overlord,TORTURE WORKS,yes it does,anyone who has ever been there,knows that.

@ Joyce M/Blythe,smokescreen,yes indeed. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, health care reform, cap and trade and immigration reform are the big ticket items. This CIA torture bullshit is just that.
  • Obama,our Supreme Leader
Since this inept clown wants to have his hands on EVERYTHING,I suggest he can help control inefficient personal body cleaning. He can wipe my butt.
Sorry for the puerile comment, but I am getting weary of this seizure of every aspect of our lives by people who cannot take care of their own personal cleansing with both hands.
  • Libertarian Voter
obama doesn't want to lose this war, and he doesn't want to win it either. he wants it to go on forever. the bankers cartel and the military industrial cartel are making to much money off of it.
  • Jack, chill
I think the widows of 911 might differ about whether there is terrorism. Taking your beliefs in a violent fashion to another land is indeed terrorism. Do we contribute to that? I am still out on that.

But you are right about Hamilton!
  • I cannot wait...
until more photos leak from the CIA torture that was going on and probably still is going on. I do believe that enemies of this country should be dealt with harshly, BUT I do not think it is right for our CIA and other groups to perform horrible acts of sodomy and other acts of extreme violence. See alot of people in this country STILL believe that all we were doing was waterboarding. That is COMPLELETLY incorrect. There was a General as well as dozens of military contractors and others that witnessed acts of sodomy and threats with weapons. Hell Dick Cheney had his own CIA hit squad. These people are CORRUPT as Hell. I mean holy crap. People. Please wake up. You have been lied to your entire lives. There are things going on behind the scenes that are straight up scary. Oh btw enjoy your swine flu this season brought to you by Baxter Pharmaceuticals. They sure are enjoying scaring the living crap out of you. Just make sure you DO NOT take that shot. You will regret it. I promise you.
  • Interrogation Units
This may actually be more nefarious than we see at first blush.
First, why does the WH need a unit to oversee or conduct interrogations under the provisions of the Justice Dept. If I understand correctly, that is the purview of the FBI.
Second, where will the parameters of who is interrogated going to be codified? Does this mean that any persone showing up on a No Fly List, or the Department of Homeland Security classified report on Rightwing Extremism sent to law enforcement nationwide?

Many qustions here to include the legality and necessity. Once an element of this sort is set up and ingrained into the bureaucracy, how hard is it to extend control or oversight outside the WH?

    This sets a bad precedent.
  • Presidential Unit for Safe Suspect Interrogation's motto:
"You don't want none of this PUSSI!"
  • torturing & interrogating notional terrorists
I find being constrained to be so blunt dis-tasteful but infernal torture is a contrived solution in need of an invented problem. There are no terrorists! Alleged terrorism is just the latest bugaboo invented by centralists, unitarists, bureaucratists, hamiltonians, elitists, zionists, militarists, imperialists, globalists, internationalists, anglofils, neo-conservatives & like pests to dis-credit American isolationism & isolationists yet again, a vile plot against the American republic that has validity, integrity, quality & economic stability only if independent of intangling foreign influences! Americans have borne this crap since 1898 when the Spanish war was justified on an odious pretext & we are yet on the G-- d----- hook for world salvation! Tell me, Boortz, when will it be acceptable to hoe our own row in this FN world? when will imperial America have slain the last threat who will lack survivors, emulators or followers avid to avenge him? When will it ever be time to tell the G-- d----- Bank of England to F itself so we can re-gain our INDEPENDENT republic & quit worrying about nonsense such as the central powers, the axis, FOREIGN communism that never would have been d--k without American lend lease aid during the infernal FDR war, the notorious CIA front organization known as al Qaeda & related BS? Back in 1991 when the soviet union inmploded I said, Great, now reactionary Americans such as myself can get away with turning our bile, ire, wrath, invidiousness, vindictiveness, antagonism & other authoritarian impulses inward so we may purge & purify America at long FN last! but of course it was an aborted hope: it would have redounded to the benefit & advantage of good people such as myself. "Silly patriot, success is for traitors!"

*F* the G-- d----- Obama adminstration's collusion in continuance of this evil charade! along with any one else who does not want to see through it because he is O so morally & intellectually BEYOND crass, mean, spiteful, narrow & *shallow* isolationism!

Where is John Taylor of Caroline county, Virginia when I NEED him?
  • QUESTIONING TERROR SUSPECTS
    > Presidential Unit for Safe Suspect Interrogation.

    Heh.
  • QUESTIONING TERROR SUSPECTS
I agree with Stan's #1 fan. When this HIG bombs out asking the terrorists, things like "what is your favorite color" It can be renamed

    "Honky Interrogating Group"

and go after the real terrorists.
  • Good point SFC
This is indeed a smokescreen. What are they trying to slip past us now? Trying to keep our mind off the 9trillion deficit? Or is something else being planned?
  • Interrogation & Torture
I really have a two-part comment about this.

First, this is both treasonous and destructive to the intelligence community and the military community. Regardless how the left feels this action will do more to destroy our ability to defend ourselves than all the previous actions of the current administration. This should be stopped immediately.

Now for the other point. TORTURE WORKS. Anyone saying different is clueless. Good Cop, Bad Cop is a form of torture. Intimidation of any type is torture. Implying the use of force, implying injuries/death to family or significant others is torture. As long as you have a way to cross-check the data, it works. Some personalities require pain to be applied, some only require the threat. You have to be willing to go the mat with radical Muslims to get the data you need. Joe Hick that robbed the bank needs minimal coercion to admit to his crime.

Get over this torture problem. And get this Administration out of office as soon as humanly possible.
  • P.U.S.S.I .
Regarding the White House "oversight" on interrogations and possible prosecution of CIA interrogators:

Way to go, Obama. The proletariat is angry over your destruction of the economy and your bumbling foreign policy, so there’s no better time for a distraction.
I wonder what the methods will be, now that THE ONE has declared ”the U.S. is no longer engaged in a war on terrorism.” Nor are we fighting “jihadists in a global war.”

Until 2012 when hopefully, a new president with balls gets elected, don’t expect much progress in the war on Islamofascism or the effort to gain valuable information.

This whole thing is a charade. It’s nothing but bluster on Obama and Holder’s part to appease the Left’s need for revenge. They’re still reeling over Nancy Pelosi getting caught in a big, fat lie about ‘not being briefed’ on CIA interrogation techniques in 2002, and they’re frustrated that the despised George W. Bush actually fought back against Islamic terrorists and used the necessary methods to stop them.

Obama won’t prosecute anyone, because he can’t. Politicizing this instead of just admitting the interrogations worked, will blow up in Jug Ear’s face. The CIA needs to hand the Left a big mug of ’shut the hell up’. Simply produce the documents that show the information we obtained from interrogating Al Qaeda operatives; the networks, plots, facilitators, financial ties, and supporters. In other words, that harsh interrogations work. It saved American lives.
  • Obama wants to lose this war , or he's trying to lose it.
Obama has just told all Al-Qaida types out there what to expect in an interrogation. Thus these thugs know the limits of what the US is going to do. How can I say this? It's simple.

The Army Interrogation Field Manual is not classified, thus it is open source material. Anyone can download it to their system from the internet.

If Obama doesn't want to lose this war, he sure is trying to. I guess that this is more of the "Change we can believe in."
  • Who decides?
I don't want the White House deciding who gets interrogated. If anything it would fall more under the judicial branch, not executive.

These people are out of control, liberty requires renewing.
  • Not just Muslims
I hope they also go back to interrogating Christians also. I am just as scared of the klan and neo nazis as I am muslim extremists
