PELOSI'S UN-AMERICAN PROTESTORS

Earlier in the week, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer wrote an op-ed in USA Today essentially calling these town hall protestors "un-American." Well Michelle Malkin did a little bit of research and she came up with a video of Nancy Pelosi from 2006. In this video, Nancy is conducting a town hall meeting on the war in Iraq. The town hall took place in her home district of San Francisco so you can only imagine what she faced: protestors. We are not talking "Brooks Brothers" protestors .. we are talking more like Code Pink protestors. Yup the hairy leg and braided armpit brigade was out in full force. Anyway, click on the link and take a look at how Nancy not only lets these protestors have their say, chanting "no more war" but allows them to come up front with all of their anti-war signs and even applauds them!

I wonder if Princess Nancy would dare to call these people in her own district "un-American." They were vocal too .. only they were saying the things that a left-wing politician would like to hear.

What others are saying

  • Pelosi's comments w/o the press
I found it interesting when she said around 4:30 that we will be having a longer session without the press so we "can talk more freely." What did she want to say that she could not while the press was there?
  • Matt!
Unfortunately, it also ignores a few inconvenient facts:
    - FDR actually prolonged the Depression by the excessive Government spending. It was apparent by the end of Hoover's administration that the economy was beginning to recover. That has been ignored and lost in history.

-If supply side economics failed, why did we have almost 30 years straight of unprecedented economic growth?

-The American people have been lied to for those 74 years, and now, they are standing up in unprecedented ways and numbers to reclaim their freedom.

EXACTLY what I and many others here have been saying! Thanks for the help snarky.
  • relambmit
ok, I'll bite - Are you asking why at townhall meetings about...uh..Iraq?? ...that citizens weren't allowed to talk and be heard because code pink was shouting them down?

honestly, I can't recall them being anything but dragged out of places.

    but please, prove me wrong.

as a liberal, they made my skin crawl. i hate loud rude people - period.
  • and the rules are..............................
in a barroom brawl the first rule is...........NO FRIGGIN' RULES......one of my incesters wrote that rule and he waz gubmint edjukated....13 toed and they say he had a tail....

soooo when the nancy goes out she can do what she wants.....ever see that big box in her office.....it's got the house of reprehencibles testicals in it....if they perform well they get to see them once or twice a year.....

politicians don't need no stinkin' rules...........we do!!! don't believe me?? well just ask your elected offal....the one you keep sending back.....
  • To Catseye and Snarky
Why didn't Pelosi say this about the Code Pink people when they wouldn't allow opposing views to be heard?
  • rematt
"FDR actually prolonged the Depression by the excessive Government spending. It was apparent by the end of Hoover's administration that the economy was beginning to recover. That has been ignored and lost in history." - The alternative view is he actually didnt spend enough. WWII spending is what changed that.

Supply side economics - pretty sure the failure there was in how it increased debt and deficits. Check this out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edchtf9MS7g&feature=related GHWB in the first couple minutes arguing against regan's tax cuts and what they'd do....he was right.

"standing up in unprecedented ways and numbers" - I read that and think about all the mischaracterization by people like sarah palin, driving good people to yell about things that are just untrue. I see where newt was in favor of end of life counseling...but now is opposed to it. Isakson wanted to make it mandatory and no one on the right yelled... I dont get it.

And yes, for 75 years the right has said that all these reforms (medicare, SS) would create a socialistic state but, in the end, none of the dire predictions made came true and these programs went on to do well for a long time.

Do they have problems now - yes. And I'm all for a reasonable debate on what we do to fix them. there are lots of things we NEED to do...and some of that HAS TO BE cuts in how this is spent.

But all I see and here is "death panels".
  • Old Lady
Man she has aged since then....(All Bush's fault) as a matter of fact all them Liberal women look old and ugly compared to Conservative women...Maybe that is why they really hate Conservatives..
  • I read Snark's article
    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_08/019484.php#more

A short opinion on this since we are on Neal's site.

I found one thing frighteningly true. We have been on a slow role progressive agenda for 74 years.

While we were mourning at the grave of Conservatism, like a Phoenix from the ashes, a new Conservative revolution begins.
  • I’m adopting that “Braided armpit brigade,” that’s a great one
Reminds me of the joke that ends with one inebriated Irishman on a barstool sayin’ to another of the bull at the end of the bar he’s been sending drinks, ”I don’ care, I’d buy ana woman that can lift her leg that high a drink.”

I usually use “He-woman man haters club.” I couldn’t imagine hating women or men, or their personal preferences, people are way too entertaining for that.

Imagine for a scary moment the internet didn’t exist, and it was still just the big three and the print media. Pelosi and the dp would be getting away clean, with all these crooked, hypocritical scams they’re trying to run, instead of looking like the arrogant, blinkered, and tone-deaf Aholes they are.
  • Pardon Moi, Mssr. Snarke`
Sorry, snark, I do have to work from time to time( ain't won no lottery, probably won't...). I think Nancy Pelosi is as fake as the botox induced perma-smile frozen on her face. She selectively applied the principal of shouting down opponents being un-American. Fine where her constituents are concerned, not so much for anti HR3200 'evil mongerers'. I can't support her point of view when she doesn't believe it herself. I didn't feel that anti war protesters were out of line as long as they stuck to facts and acting somewhat rationally. You believe what you believe, why should I get offended? I can't change your mind, don't want to. But Nancy Pelosi doesn't give a rat's rear end about civilized debate or calm, reasonable discussion with opponents. To quote her: "We won,you lost." I don't think anyone should be silenced, and shouting at people only works in sports, war, and Jerry Springer. I'd like to see folks calm down and take a deep breath, but I can't blame them for not wanting to. Someone is trying to shoplift their freedom to choose. Her name is Nancy. Okay, mon, I got to work, the boss says. Peace...out
  • To Joyce
So now you can read minds.

There's a very signifcant difference between "the dress you are wearing is ugly" and "you are ugly".

There is a difference between telling a child, "Your behavior today was rotten" vs. "You are a rotten child."
  • Re: Joyce- Snarky is still right this time
I'll give Pelosi the benefit of the doubt. She is already in enough hot water with her "Swastika" comment. I am not going to try to make a connection where one does not exist. I prefer to argue with logic, not with "well, what she really meant is...". I am guilty of saying things in my life that were misunderstood. I really dilike Pelosi, but I would rather point out where she really does put her foot in her mouth rather than trying to make some kind of guess as to what she meant. Doing so makes us look like Hyperpartisan fools.

You've been lame since day one. If your brain too damaged to put together a thought that contains more than one sentence? Your posts stand out not in a good way and are easily dismissed.

  • NCchik
That Blume guy is just another name Brian Fantana is using, another hit and run poster.
  • Doesn't really matter
If she said they were un-American or if their actions were un-American, you know damn well what she meant! She was demeaning the protesters no matter which way you want to look at it. And hey, you twist our words all the time.

She's insulting and her doing so is un-American!
  • rematt
thank you for at least acknowledging that.

I think Obama was referring to republicans in congress...

but I agree, they all need to read it.

Have you had a chance to compare this opposition to the historical opposition to these types of reforms?

    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_08/019484.php#more

It's creepy how much things haven't changed
  • message to Mr. H. Blume
Never heard of Michelle Malkin? How very curious. Many words come to mind when I read your comments but Republican is not one of them..
  • Snarky and the Un-American Comment... A rare agreement
"Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. "

I'll give you that. I agree. I think it is wrong to say that Speaker Pelosi called the protesters Un-american. She stated drowning out opposition is Un-American.

Now take the Aug. 6, 2009 Obama comment:

"But I don't want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking..."

So, by Pelosi's definition, is she calling President Obama "Un-American"? It is obvious that Obama does not want to hear from the opposition.

Also, Speaker Pelosi should clarify what she meant, because by her definition, there is very little if any Un-America activity coming from the right. I'm sure you would agree that the SEIU is much more Un-American based on the Pelosi comment for stomping the elderly opposition in the streets. Conversely, the only time the right seems to get angry is when the Congressman tries to pass on some warmed-over talking point that is obviously BS. The people are reading the Bills...God love them all. They are more educated about them than the Congressmen are. These reps need to start reading the legislation.
  • Pelosi lied! Hoyer lied!
Caught on tape and still they lie!

And little fascists still try and come to their rescue. Pathetic. 2010 is in the bag. Indeed, healthcare was Obozo's Waterloo.
  • God, I hate that b*tch!
  • rechuck
uh, so I can't tell...you disagree with Pelosi saying people with different views shouldn't be drown out? You think it's unamerican to allow dissent?

    it's really a simple question.
  • Yo, snarkster....
What's un-American about this is trying to force bad legislation down people's throats without a real debate over whether or ot this plan will work and if the majority of citizens even want this. Then there's the issue of what the real number of people is who actually need this type of healthcare. I doubt the number is close to 47 million. I'm just funny that way, I like to see hard numbers from independent sources vs. just taking someone's word. Especially if that someone is a creer politician, from either party. I have no sympathy for the Dems who are getting shouted down. They have had ample time to discuss the plan but didn't think they would have to account for the details. It's like my 17 year old son calling me and asking me to let him buy the latest cellphone or wanting a 4x4. Slow down...let's look at all the details. I'm such a bad Daddy for making him provide me with more information. Same thing. You disapprove of the townhallers? Hey, you think all of the discussion over breaking away from England was civil? The Declaration of Indepedence? The Constitution? Just because they were lawyers and doctors and businessmen didn't mean they were always polite, bet on it. And Nancy Pelosi is nothing if not a hypocrite. No credibility, not a shred. She is the last person who should be taking protesters to task!
  • Challenge to the lying lunatic right
Here is Pelosi's USA Today piece:
    http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2009/08/unamerican-attacks-cant-derail-health-care-debate-.html

Challenge: Please find where she says the protestors are "un-American".

In paragraph 7, she writes, "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades".

This is the only place in the article where the word "un-American" occurs.

Yet, Boortz and Faux News and the other usual suspects twist her words. It is blatant dishonesty and misrepresentation of the facts to say that Nancy Pelosi called the protestors un-American or to assert that she said that protest is un-American . . . just as it is a blatant misrepresentation to say that Obama will establish "death panels."
  • We will use the same tactics against the left
as they used against us--right out of Alinsky's playbook.

The left dosn't like it when we play by their rules...hahahahahaha

We will hit them hard, relentlessly, without mercy. Until they crumble.
  • MORE MM
Can we have more articles by this Malkin girl? Nothing more excites a republican like me than articles written by people nobody knows. I like to read these in commercial breaks while watching Brit Hume. Man that guy is as exciting as a weekend with Batman
  • Bush Lied
I thought according to these people, Bush lied about WMDs. Here is Nancy on tape admitting the intelligence said they were there.
