HEARD OF PROFESSORS CLOWARD AND PIVEN?

Both were at liberal Columbia University professors in the '60's. (I know, "liberal Columbia University Professor" is redundant). These two professors put forth their Cloward-Piven strategy in an article in The Nation magazine. The issue date was May 2, 1966. David Horowitz summarizes the strategy thusly:

The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Hmmmmm. Does that sound at all like our current "crisis" in health care? I mean, how many people do you personally know who are in the throes of despair right now because of some needed health care service that is beyond their reach? Oh sure, I know that there are lifeboat cases; there always are, in any society. But do the relatively small percentage of people out there who are facing some sort of unmet medical disaster constitute an entire system in "crisis?" Certainly not. So why the huge push? Why the asinine idea that our economic recovery is dependent on developing some form of national healthcare? Why is this all being painted as a crisis that to be solved right-by-God-now or our entire society is endangered? Well ... Obama and the Democrats, of course, are anxious to get this segment of the economy under their absolute control before next year's mid-term elections. Time is really of the essence for them. Consider also that if you're going to use the Cloward-Pivin Strategy of manufactured crisis, you have to treat it like an actual crisis, and that means dealing with it NOW!

Here's a bit from The Nation article: The essential features of a campaign using the Cloward-Pivin Strategy.

  1. The offensive organizes previously unorganized groups eligible for government benefits but not currently receiving all they can.
  2. The offensive seeks to identify new beneficiaries and/or create new benefits.
  3. The overarching aim is always to impose new stresses on target systems, with the ultimate goal of forcing their collapse.

Needless to say we're going to be discussing my "find" here (thanks to a listener email) in coming days and weeks. But first, perhaps you would like to learn more on your own. Go ahead .. use Google. But here's two links to get you started:

  1. Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis, from American Thinker.com
  2. The Cloward-Piven Strategy, from Discoverthenetworks.org

What do you think? Could the Democrat-Socialist party be intentionally trying to collapse our system?

What others are saying

  • Cloward-Piven strategy
I follow politics closely and am pretty versed in political philosophy. That said, I had never heard of the Cloward-Piven strategy of manufacturing a crisis to achieve a cataclysm in the economic system that would make it possible to substitute it with something that the public would normally find unacceptable. Very interesting. Thank you, Neal, for bringing it to my attention.
  • Finally!
Neal, you finally triggered the missing link that has been bothering me for the last 15 months. I remember following the whole Angela Davis/Chicago Seven/SLA crises of the late 60's/early 70's. These events fit with the C&P schlock. We are naive to think it is only Americans in this. Thanks!
  • Ivan- CIA, drugs, Area 51, tin-foil hats
Why, yes, you are absolutely correct. G.W. Bush, the dumbest president in history, masterminded such an impenetrable conspiracy - allowing the CIA to use Zapata oil platforms for drug ports, that even the thousands of platform workers were unaware of what was going on. Brilliant work for the dumbest President in history. Just goes to show how devious he is, I guess. You do know all that drug money was used to fund technology transfers and R&D from space alien technology. Congress, through its Majestic 12 (aka MJ-12)program, orchestrated this drug trade (bipartisan, of course, Dems and GOP in complete loving unity) because they didn't want the public to know they were trading with aliens. I know it's true because I read it on the Internet.

"The problem with conspiracies is they require a level of secrecy that the conspirators spouses would find laughable." - Unknown

However, I do think there are some who want the destruction of our economy and culture. Others just cause destruction because that is their nature and they are quite often used by others toward that end, e.g., useful idiots.
  • To jusjon
I am glad you have kept up with Iran Contra. You have some good information, but it is also just the official story. There is MUCH more to it. Oliver North still knows much that was kept under wraps. Only bits and pieces have surfaced that can be verified. I still stand by my claim that the CIA was actively involved in transfering coke and heroin.
  • Cloward-Priven
let'em have the country. They will come clawing back begging for help.
To take a leson from the 70's the looters need a shot of "tough love"
  • so is this the strategy?
Is the "conservative" strategy now to repeat the exact arguments which the "liberals" have been using for the last eight years against Bush? Or am I just too young to see that this is how things always work?
  • Cloward-Piven in reverse
If they pass any bill with this "Public Option" BS, it will work in reverse. Once most folks are forced on to the public roles, the health system is going to be overrun. "Hey, it's 'free' so I am going to the Doc for every little cut, scrape, sniffle, ache and pain that I have..." will be the mind set of the lemings.
  • What do you think? Could the Democrat-Socialist party be intentionally trying to collapse our system?
Ya think?! These people have been trying to do this for decades. You, my friend, are slow!
  • Never let a good crisis go to waste??
  • reivan
    ego?

Uh, seriously dude...you just said "Your little heads would explode if you knew the truth" and before that "I am sorry, but I cannot discuss what these items were. The consequences for talking openly about the items are severe. That is all I will say."

speaking of ego. I am sure you're a general in whatever army your putting together so, I guess it's deserved, right?

    ;-)
  • Would love to hear more
Ivan, but you need a "safe" harbor. Unfortunate for us.
  • Ivan!
Ivan, the CIA never trafficked drugs into the US. There were some nefarious relationships with groups that did traffic drugs in order to fund their operations in Central America. Numerous investigations by Congress and the FBI found no evidence of any conspiracy by CIA or its employees to bring drugs into the United States. These included CIA assets, pilots who ferried supplies to the Contras, as well as Contra officials and others. There are instances where CIA did not cut off relationships with assets and individuals supporting the Contra program who were alleged to have engaged in drug trafficking activity. Specifically, Danilo Blandon and Juan Meneses, both exiled Nicaraguans, were already supplying cocaine from Columbian connections, in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area and then funneled millions in drug profits to the Contra cause. But there was no direct CIA support or trafficing. Did the CIA turn a blind eye, yes. But then drug offenses are not their purview.

I am sorry, I could provide you a lot more detail, but the consequences for talking openly about this are severe. Someone would have to make you disappear. That is all I will say.
  • Throw a Cat Out of an Airplane!
C'mon Neal, all this rubbish about insurance is getting pretty dull! Go shoot a nuclear bullet at a manatee!
Or, bring back that Asian Hottie with the story about the little girl at the ObamaCare Rally...
  • To Valrelse
You said: “If the republicans act as the opposition they are playing into the left's hands. So their alternative is to not oppose the plan? Damned if you do damned if you don't, when you come right down to it.”

The correct course for the Republicans is to stand their ground and refuse to dialogue with the Marxists. Instead of saying “we’ll talk about it” they should have stood their ground and frankly asserted that there was nothing that government could do to help health care, and the idea that the government could do something positive is absurd. Then they should have refused to participate in any discussion thereafter. Since the Republican Party is compromised thoroughly, that will never happen.

The only thing that would fix this Hegelian Waltz would be to hold our elected representatives’ feet to the fire; kind of like is happening now. This should be a normal occurrence. Elected representatives should be scared of the electorate. Instead they are in most cases deified. We need to restore an attitude about politicians of general distrust at best and flagrant malevolence at worst.

The poster who said Ordo Ab Chao is dead right. Translated that means: “Out of Chaos; order”. The trick is to deprive them of the chaos and psychodrama they need to instill fear in people. If the so called conservatives could structure their responses in like fashion then the Marxists would be disarmed.

Political Atheism Is what is needed today. We must break this two party mold. George Washington even said that the two party system would be the death of America. All Republicans should disband the party and join the Democratic Party. One party would upset the Marxists plan and delay any advancement of tyranny.
  • To snarkybird
I'm glad you think this is funny. Maybe I should be asking you for information because uou obviously have all the answers. Your parents and school teachers must have hated trying to teach you anything. Why the ego?
  • To jimg
BTW it doesn't matter one bit whether you take me seriously or not. There are much bigger things going on than just you or me. I just inform those that care to listen. If you don't take it seriously don't reply. It is that easy. If you want all the truth there is a time and place for it. Stick around long enough and I may throw you some more if I am feeling up to it. The one question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you actually want the real truth or if you want me to attempt to make it fit into YOUR belief system.
  • remany
Ivan knows what would happen if he disclosed too much.

    Dont you Ivan?

    How was the sandwich?
  • To snarkybird and jimg
Your little heads would explode if you knew the truth. Your comments have proven that much.
  • a 1000 times, yes

Oh, I feel so much better now that you cleared that up - not!

I thought I was so close to cracking the code.

Do I need a special ring?

  • Cloward=Priven strategu
Sounds a lot like what Acorn has been doing to our elections. So what do you think Acorn is trying to accomplish?
  • merry go round
I see a lot of folks believe that many but themselves need to wake up. Republican this, Democrat that... The fact of the matter is that these two parties have controlled our government for at least the last century. Every terrible thing that anyone points out about our country's situation is directly attributable to those two parties, the laws thet've passed, the policies they've set, the treaties they've signed, etc. The followers of each party placing all the blame at the feet of the other party. Ignoring that every piece of harmful legislation has somehow found just enough "bi-partisen" support to get it on the books. If either party is so impotent as to be incapable of preventing the other from inflicting harm then it's worthless. But the parties have carved up the issues just enough to keep the masses aligned with one or the other, not fully supporting its full stated platform but one or two things that stir just enough emotion to supercede the rest.
So around and around we go. Republican president, Democratic congress. Democratic president, Republican congress, neither ever so completely in control as to get full blame. Giving us the "good cop, bad cop" ploy, and we buy it every time.
Both parties have been bought by corporate interests. The people of our country don't matter to either one, unless those people are CEO's or other big monied executives. And lucky for the Republicrats....the great masses of average, everyday poeple that make up the country have allowed themselves to focus on the bits of mis-direction offered, like health care "crisis" or "terrorisim", and therefore miss the slight of hand that magically grows the ever widening gap between the haves and the have nots. And whether one wants to admit it or not, the middle class is also part of the have nots. Like a plow mule who's kept fed and cared for just enough that it can continue to pull the plow.
Let's all wake up and stop continuing the same behavior expecting different results.... Vote Libertarian, Green, Independent, Bull Moose.......ANY party but the two "major" parties that have taken us to this point.
  • REAL purpose of Cloward-Piven Strategy
They wrote “the ultimate objective of this strategy (is) to wipe out poverty by establishing a guaranteed annual income... (via)the outright redistribution of income.”

    NOT

"...seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse."
  • Glenn Beck
Glenn Beck has been talking about these two professors for a while now. They also have ties to ACORN.

I used to think Beck was conspiratorial, but now...he makes alot of sense.

We should have listened to Rush, Hannity, et. al. when they warned us about Obama's radial ties. These are the types of folks that mentored Obama. What's happening now is no surprise.
  • To snorkyturd
    Not even close.
  • umm
this is the same govt that cant run cash for clunkers, right?

    uh-huh.

Let me make sure I understand. Govt is a giant, costly, inept, bureaucratic goliath that can't get out of its own way to run anything but it's all part of a master plan involving the global economy, many world leaders, and a goal for total world domination by a set of elites?

    Did I get that right?

And right on the money! Now if we could get more liberals to realize they have been lied to also and are being used right along with the rest of us.
  • To jusjon
Yes you are right and wrong. The reason for the quote was because Bush knew that the Iran Contra controversy involved the CIA which is guilty of trafficing drugs into the US. The people of this country would lynch those responsible for selling drugs to our kids if they found out that it was actually the CIA. The CIA does this to raise money for black projects. No aluminum hats needed cause I know this as fact.

  • Ordo Ab Chao
Unfortunately it seems to be a tactic used on both sides of the fence to throw the "dumb masses" into hysteria then provide the solution when the ignorant beg for the solution to the crisis created by the people with the "solution". Whoever is in control at the moment of chaos gets to rebuild order as they please. Fortunately alot more of the "dumb masses" (not nearly enough though) are seeing through the smoke and mirrors and are starting to throw the BS flag. We have been inundated with one "crisis" after another, the only solution being proposed by the gubmint is of course more gubmint. Nothing is simply an issue anymore, it immediately jumps to the top of the hiearchy as a "crisis":

    Global Warming Crisis
    Climate Change Crisis
    Immigration Crisis
    Mortgage Crisis
    Global Financial Crisis
    Avian Flu Crisis
    Swine Flu Crisis
    Healthcare Crisis
...just to rehash the most recent ones
Social Security Crisis is probably next on the agenda. Too bad Islamofascist Crisis never made it in the headlines otherwise we might have actually targeted a very real crisis and ironically one crisis the gubmint is Constitutionally obligated to to remedy.
  • To tshirt-doctor.com
There was actually more to the war with Iraq. It wasn't all for nothing. There were some items that we were looking for over there. They were not WMD's. Saddam was not too happy about willingly turning these items over. I am not sure if they ever recovered what they were looking for. Hopefully they did. The items are of great importance and are dangerous in ANY hands, but extremely dangerous in the hands of enemies of the United States. I am sorry, but I cannot discuss what these items were. The consequences for talking openly about the items are severe. That is all I will say.
  • HillaryCare
I'm old enough to remember 1993 when Hillary Clinton and her hubby Bill tried to manufacture the same "crisis" using the same arguments - but because Hillary is such a paranoid control freak she decided to create her "improvements" largely in secret, pissing off the Congress and leading to the whole plan turning into a debacle. Now it's 15 YEARS later and we "suddenly" have the same stupid crisis all over again? I guess if at first you don't succeed...

I certainly hope that this attempt also fails, and that is opens the door for some genuine conservatives (and some non-nutjob libertarians) to take Congress back in 2010!
  • Vote!
The good news I,s the liberals are fully exposed, a lot easier to defeat. No more of this moderate horse squeeze vote’em out in 2010!
  • Yes
Yes, this strategy is being used. Yes we are pawns. The only thing saving us from total destruction is the fact we are finally stepping out and up against these cowards, and the fact that we are very well armed!
Why do you think that there are many politicians that hate the 2nd amendment, and try to create fear and doubt about its verbiage? Is it coming clear to you now?
  • Uh, Ivan, that quote
was in response to a question asked during an interview with Sarah McClendon in 1992. The context was the covert programs done under Iran-Contra to circumvent Congressional opposition to arming the Nicaraguan Contras. Take the tin hat off, friend, the black helicopters already know where you are.

  • Could the Democrat-Socialist party be intentionally trying to collapse our system?
I don't think there's any doubt. I'm just curious if this was in the curriculum at Patrice Lamumba University in Moscow back then.
  • Re: Could the Democrat-Socialist party be intentionally trying to collapse our system?
Can any sane person reasonably refute that question? This has been obvious from the very inception of TARP. These people are betting on Americans' complacence to see their agenda through. Stash your AR's and ammo now, because you may well need it.
  • Marxist Agenda
Note the tie-in to Saul Alinsky, Chairman Obama's mentor. These people, Obama included, are avowed Marxists, plain and simple. I tried to tell everyone who would listen both before and after the election. I bought "Rules for Radicals", read it, offered it to others to read or give them the short summary. Most declined; dismissing my suspicions as extreme, countering with "oh, he's going to govern from the center" and BS like that. It was uncool, almost 'racist' to even suggest that this mystery man could be a closet Bolshevik. Now I believe that with each passing day Obama and his gangster administration reveal themselves as the true communists they really are. Forget the more P.C. and watered-down terms such as 'liberal', 'socialist', 'progressive'; this guy and his minions are hardcore totalitarian statists.
Think about it folks, they have in just a few months manufactured a health care crisis' where none exists nor ever existed. They can't explain what their true version of 'health care reform' or 'health insurance reform' or whatever they keep changing the name to would actually be. They know people would run from it like the plague. They are continuously trotting out new 'villains' such as insurance companies, republicans, talk radio and even average American citizens; some are the very ones who voted for this crook. They have to shade the facts, flat out lie about their intentions, change the name of certain aspects to make them more palatable to the dumb voters in this country (such as 'public option' or 'single payer' suddenly becomes 'co-op') and stupid repubic politicians see this as a golden opportunity to 'play nice' with these snakes and come up with a 'bipartisan compromise' bill essentially and unwittingly giving the Marxists everything they wanted in the first place. Repubics and massively ignorant voters are the very useful idiots Lenin stated were absolutely necessary for a successful Bolshevik take over.
The war we are fighting at home with the Marxists in government has much higher stakes than any of the foreign wars our military is engaged in.
Wake up! Tell you representatives, either democrat or repubic, that we want no part of any sweeping health care reform plan.
These criminals don't give one red rats a$$ about your "health care"; they only want to destroy our economy, take away what your property and freedoms remain, and take total control of every aspect of your life.
Tell all of your brain-dead friends and family members to get off the Kool-Aid and fairy dust, pull their heads out of their hineys and come to the cold, cruel realization that Barack Obama and his gangsters are not their friends. We are in the fight of our lives, folks.

"From tiny ACORNs mighty Marxists grow."
  • Welcome to Clowart Ploven!
I learned of this strategy about 3 months ago and the Dicoverthenetwork site is awesome. I anm glad that you have finally stumbled on this yourself. One has to ask not only about the "Health Crisis" but the financial panic we had last year. From reports at the time, it was triggered by a swell of withdrawls from money market accounts, billions oof dollars all at once. Well, who has that power? I have not seen any one has expanded on the actual withdrawls and no you dont even hear anything about it all. I would point my finger at George Soros. He has been trying to bring down America for years and almost accomplished bring down the UK a number of years ago.
  • If the RNC handed out talking points like the Dumbocrats say they do, then the Talkmaster would have had this months ago. Glen Beck has had this on his TV show several times over the past several months.
  • Re: Could the Democrat-Socialist party be intentionally trying to collapse our system?
The question should be: ”if Obama was actually trying to destroy the US free market system, how would his policies differ from those he is pursuing?”

  • Neal GETS IT!!!!
Finally. I knew that after he won his spot in the Radio Hall of Fame he would get on board. YES this whole crisis was orchestrated. This is the final stretch for our elites. Hell George Bush Sr. is one of the ring leaders in charge of everything that is happening. Bush Sr. is a known member of the Jason Scholars as well as several other secret groups. His connections within clandestine organizations are vast. He has no known appearances at any recent Bilderberg meetings, however for a man as paranoid as Bush Sr. is I am sure if he wanted to attend he could do so in completely anonymity.

"If the people knew what we had done, they would chase us down the street and lynch us." -- George HW Bush

    Funny quote eh?
  • Cloward-Piven Strategy
This is just another instance of putting the theory of the Hegelian Dialectic into practice. It is the old "change" by the three step process.
1.The first step is to manufacture a problem with a predetermined solution.
2.The second step is to create opposition to the problem; in other words create anxiety and fear in the public. The ensuing conflict causes people to become panicked; therefore demanding action from their elected officials.
3.The third step is to offer the already predetermined solution as the fix to the “problem”. Of course the “solution” will necessitate a restriction of individual rights and liberties.

Through this 3 step process people are sufficiently panicked. This emotional stress causes mental confusion whereby judgment is impaired and suggestibility is increased. Thus bringing about “change” that would have been impossible to impose on people without proper psychological conditioning. When this happens people allow their freedoms and liberties be taken away without seeing the ramifications of what the “change agents” had in mind all along. This process makes people react with emotion and cease logical and critical thought.

If you look over the political landscape for the past 100 years you can easily see this Marxist tactic put in play over and over again without fail. This is how far leftist, extremist Marxists have gained power while the liberty loving moderates and conservatives have had no clue as to the fact that they were just pawns in a grand transformational game.

This process is most easily seen in the health care debates. During the early days of the Clinton administration Hilary came out with her health care plans. Republicans thought they won a victory when the plan was scrapped, but in reality they were being used. This simply served to put the issue of health care in the public mind as being an issue that was a problem. For the next 15 years the Marxists hammered home the idea that health care was a problem and government was the solution.

Now that the public is sufficiently panicked the time is ripe to begin the dialogue that will ensure that the political right will take baby steps to the left in the debate on health care in order to “compromise” on a solution. After this process is over it will just be repeated again and again while the opposition (Republicans) continue to compromise and take baby steps to the left until government health care is passed and freedom and liberty is slowly lost.

This health care debate is just one arm of this “Cloward-Piven” strategy. They want to flood the government until it cannot bear the economic burden. Then when the public is panicked and not thinking logically, capitalism will be blamed and pilloried. Then they will give us socialism as the solution to our problem.
It’s a pity that Republicans cannot see how they are being used in all of this.
  • American Thinker
they now have in place in washington everyone who wants to destroy this country so they can rebuild it in their ideal. their long term strategy seems to be coming to fruition. I for one never knew this until I read the american thinker article. it did a very good job of tying together all of the players so one can see the big picture. god help us.
  • But, you can't attack them.
They throw fits if we even question their patriotism.
  • Uh, HELLO!!!
Our resident alarmist has already brought this topic up and few believed him.
    I'm with ya Ivan!

At what point does this cross the line to treason? and what should those of us who love our country do?
  • Or, you know...
    PRESIDENTIAL--

    WHATEVER LOL
  • You go it
ONLY 94% were paying their mortgage, we have a crisis.

40 million (more like 20 million or less) don't have healthcare, we have a crisis.

etc, etc, etc, is it me or has everything since Obama became President been a crisis?

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • Orchestrated Crisis
My favorite definition of 'orchestrated crisis' is
    THE 2008 PRESIDENTION ELECTION
  • Progressives
These are the progressives Hillary says her ideals align with. I think every one in Washington is practicing this theory.

And again, their followers will say that's ok!
