ANOTHER GIFT TO THE UNIONS

Every year unions have to submit financial reports to the government as required by the Labor Management and Reporting Disclosure Act. But for years under the Bush administration, unions complained that Labor Secretary at the time, Elaine Chao, issued even tougher regulations for labor unions to comply with. These regulations "required union officials to disclose financial information that could aid union members' seeking information on how their union leaders are spending dues money, and to help expose 'no show jobs' that put paychecks for ghost employees into union coffers."

But now that the Obama administration is in place, new Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has said sayonara to these revised union financial disclosure requirements. Unions will no longer have to comply. A notice went out about a week ago stating the following:

"Accordingly, OLMS will refrain from initiating enforcement actions against union officers and union employees based solely on the failure to file the report required by section 202 of the Labor-Management and Reporting Disclosure Act (LMRDA), 29 U.S.C. § 432, using the 2007 form, as long as individuals meet their statutorily-required filing obligation in some manner. OLMS will accept either the old Form LM-30 or the new one for purposes of this non-enforcement policy."

In other words, just another "thank you" from the Obama administration. It would seem that now the union leaders are free to spend union dues on whatever they durned well please, and to keep those ghost union workers out there fattening union boss wallets. You would expect nothing less with Democrats in power.

What others are saying

  • Yet another reason to make the trip to D.C.
If at all possible, make the trip to Washington D.C. on September 12! This Administration sold it's soul to the labor unions back in November! The Apology Tour, The witch-hunt against the CIA, Cap and Trade, Health Care takeover, Auto Manufacturing takeovers, Bank takeovers, "czars", trying to shut down Conservative talk radio via his "Diversity Manager", the list goes on! These things are WRONG!! Remember them in November 2010!
  • Obama is already worse than Carter
It makes me sick to my stomach to see this slimy administration spend zillions of taxpayer dollars to fix GM, knowing full well the UAW is the tumor.

That really does tell you a lot about the Democrat party as a whole. Their biggest contributors attach themselves to their host and suck until the suckin's done.
  • Lol, yea how about those Atlanta unions.
There's those UAW assembly Plants in Lakewood, Doraville, and Hapeville, doh, they're all gone.

Those Atlanta UPS teamsters union workers turning their pensions over to the infamous teamsters union just before the stock split was hilarious. They scr*wed themselves three ways from Sunday.
  • crybabies?
Fairly impressive "the dude." You managed three insults in a post less than 60 words. That kind of spewage will earn you a lot of respect at Media Matters, but it just illustrates your lack of intelligence here. The NLRA (One of FDR's original communist programs) prohibits an employee from speaking to managment on his or her own behalf among other things. In other words, it takes your liberty to ask your boss for a raise you might deserve, and puts it in the hands of a government approved person who will spend more of his energy and your money defending the worthless idiot who should be fired instead of representing your concerns. Unions have outlived their usefulness. Take responsibility for yourselves. Be your own advocate. Allowing some one to act "for your own good" is giving them power over you.
  • the envelope pleeeeze...............................
$mooth........the answer to your kwestion is..............yep, yeah, uh huh, you betcha, si, ya, wee and YES!

    the dumbasses iz in charge....
  • Wrong as usual
Nope, according to the NLRA people in supervisory roles cannot be union members. My business is too small anyways. However nice try. I am sure you know much about the NLRA rather than just listening to screaming crybabies on foxnews while you are cleaning your gun waiting for your son to get done w/ his private "appointment" w/ his priest
  • Union vs Management... A Bright Spot!
"Mercury Marine plans on celebrating their 70th anniversary in Wisconsin by pulling out and moving all operations to their non-union plant in Oklahoma, unless a radical compromise appears that changes the tone of the negotiations." (http://www.examiner.com/x-7251-Milwaukee-History-Examiner~y2009m8d25-Mercury-Marine-threatening-to-leave-Wisconsin)

Looks like my next outboard motor will be a black one built in OK!

The union rejected the proposed contract concessions on Sunday, August 23rd. A meeting between union officials and Mercury Marine was scheduled for today, Tuesday, August 25th. But, as it turned out, Mercury Marine refused to make any further concessions, standing firm on the offer that had been rejected by the union on Sunday. It would appear that the 70 year association of Mercury Marine in Wisconsin, barring any change in Mercury Marine's position, will come to an end.
  • @dude
Who cares that they can spend money how they want to. It is like any other business, if it gets out of hand, then the people will vote out their leader. This is closer to extortion only run by the biggest organized crime syndicate in the US. Vote out therr leader - who wants to wake up in the morning with a horse head in their bed?????? The Unions have outlived their purpose.
  • Don't do as I do, do as I say
The dem's want insurance companies to open their books, because they want to see how they are spending their "private" business funds.
Now they let the unions off the hook! What hyprocracy!!!!
  • Worth-less Unions
So now our union officials can freely spend union dues at the gay bars, and they will not have to make up lies any-more. That should make the dude happy.
  • It's knowing how they spend it...
that I think is the issue. As I read it, it's not so much how they spend it but rather that without any reporting required even the union members who pay the dues won't be able to find out how THEIR money is being spent.
  • stupid UPS and pilots
    typical failed unions

just look at all these pesky unions just here in GA

    http://www.manta.com/mb_45_F02777N3_11/labor_union/georgia

all horrible, horrible groups. I say end them all and stop using the companies they are a part of until they get rid of their unions!
  • You don't really expect
Unions to look after their members do you?
  • Union Disclosure
Actually this might be a good thing. Obama and Harry Reid are perhaps beginning to realize that the Card Check bill has no chance of passing, so they're just trying to placate the unions with this move. It stinks, sure, but it's a hell of a lot easier to swallow than Card Check.
  • If you don't like the way your union is run ...
"Gino" and "Cheech" come to your house and change your mind. They can also tell you how you voted in the next union election.
  • Dude
You must be a union member. You have the sheep mentality down pat.
  • The smell just keeps getting worse, week after week
Just when I think we've finally seen the peak of all the corruption in the Obozo regime..........a new story like this pops up.

OK, enough already. Are we really going to allow these clowns another 4-year term to completely destroy this once-great nation?
  • Can this hag be impeached?
She's openly violating her oath to uphold the law and the Constitution. Of course, we've seen plenty of this "selective enforcement" by bureaucrats in the past.
  • How come you care so much?
Neal, you arent part of a union are you? You seem to care too much about the unions in America. Who cares that they can spend money how they want to. It is like any other business, if it gets out of hand, then the people will vote out their leader. Just think of last election. The republicans got out of hand on how they were spending money, and now they are crying about every little thing and running off to Argentina to be in the arms of their mistresses
