Please explain (with legal proof that you base your explanation on) how a person who has a foreign father (i.e. a dual citizen) can be considered a "natural born" citizen. Nothing I have read says this is possible, a US citizen (perhaps) but not a "natural born" citizen.

I think Neal is very clever to bash the birthers and then allow this forum for discussion. Because anyone who realizes that mere personal attacks on the birthers does not disprove what they are saying gets a summary here of their arguments, which are actually reasonable.

Why doesn't Obama just produce the documents (birth certificate, passport, school records) and put the subject to rest? For all his talk about transparency and honesty, what is he hiding and why? Wouldn't anyone who didn't have anything to hide be putting those documents out there?

No good American would welcome the Constitutional crisis that would ensue if Obama is not a natural-born citizen and qualified for the office he holds. The thought of discovering that he is illegitimately in office turns my stomach, and worries me for our country. Politically, it would be a mini-armageddon. Yet we have to ask ourselves, which is worse for our country, to let an unqualified person take office without challenge, or to try and fix the situation so that it never happens again? That nobody ever checked or verified such standard qualifications for him is very troubling.

Quit bashing "the birthers" who have legitimate questions and prove that Obama meets the qualifications necessary for the office. Or start working now so that in the next Presidential election there are procedures and standards to prove qualifications beyond any doubt before any candidate can enter the race.

Newspaper announcements of births may be purchased for print by anyone, anywhere. I don't care that two papers in Hawaii had announcements for Obama's birth; his grandparents could have paid for them even if he and his mom were in another state or another country. (This action on their part would not have to be a future conspiracy in the making...) Besides, unless I am mistaken, the announcements also do not state where he was born - just that he was. So, please, drop the announcements as part of your "proof" Obama was born in Hawaii - it doesn't prove anything more than the date of his birth was announced in those papers. Believe me, the local papers here would gladly take my money for a birth announcement to be printed - even if I made the whole thing up!

A passport assistance site has the following to say about trying to get just a passport with a short-form birth cert:

"To be truthful people get US Passports everyday with short abstract version’s of their birth certificates that are missing a reference to their original birth “source documents” *****BUT the State Department can AND DOES ask for source documents WHEN THERE ARE QUESTIONS OR SUSPICIONS. "

Since birth in the United States is a pre-requisite for being elected, then what DID he provide as such proof when He got to that part of the form/questionaire/application to run or be put on the ballot. After all, this would be part of the process. When he got to that part of the process, what DID he show as proof if not his long form?

As for why no one demands to see George Bush's BC, it's probably because there's no reason to doubt where George was born. There's lots of witnesses, and it's common knowledge where he was born. Obama? (crickets chirping). Who knows where the hell this guy came from? There's lots of people who say he was born in THEIR country. Who's saying Geroge Bush was born in Zimbabwe? (Again, crickets chirping).

If Joe Biden were asked to provide his birth certificate BEFORE the election, I am sure he would have produced it. He will not NOW because doing so will harm the cause.

Question what nation is his citizenship on his college application? Question if he did not regain his legal citizenship is this grounds for his removal?

The birth announcement in the local paper probably proves he was born in HI. But the indisputable fact they have spent a crapload of cash to avoid even having to show it to a Federal Judge tells me there is something on that sucker that he doesn't want people to see.

Everyone saying it is a settled issue doesn't make it so. If Obama is in fact not a U.S. citizen, then he is not qualified to be president, period. One brief press conference, by him, with the birth certificate, would end the whole dispute. Why don't they do it?

There seems to be a few basic views to this:
1-Birthers ar kooks. Quit being so annoying.
2-Obama should prove he is a Natural Born Citizen the same way every other US citizen has to.
3-It doesn't matter because he's already been elected.

I beleive the issue boils down to a few questions:
Are we a nation of laws? Is our Constitution the supreme law of the land? What is a natural born citizen of the USA? How important is it to you that our laws are upheld?

Your view really depends on your feelings about law and order. If you are extremely lawful/orderly/follow all of the rules, then you will probably want to see the long form birth certificate. If you arn't an extreme stickler for the rules but generally tend to follow them you will probably say "he's already elected, there's no point." If you don't care for rules and prefer to do only what you want to do then you will call birthers kooks.

Also political preference has an effect on your attitude too. If you are a democrat you are more likely to not care because your man is in charge.

The question of "what is a natural born citizen of the USA?" won't be answered until the Supreme Court tells us how to interpret the law. This is hard to do when so many court cases are sumarily dismissed.

Ok... if he wasn't a natural born citizen, McCain would have already aired that dirt 10 months ago. They thoroughly researched it. I believe Obama is a natural born citizen, but honestly... I would still like to see the long form BC just... because.

First, he went to school in Indonesia at a time when only citizens of Indonesia could go to school. There is no record of BO's dual citizenship or 'naturalization' paperwork when he came back, so technically (and if often happened that minors back then did not go through imagration) he is an illegal alien and/or a citizen of Indonesia. This would explain the other question out there, BOs missing university records - did he apply and get special treatment as a foreigner? who knows! the MSM won't dig hard enough to answer these easy questions. The whole birth certificate thing is moot for me as I have noticed that the American people by and large do not care about the Constitution as they allowed a sitting president to commit perjury and there was not outrage. "It was a private matter... It doesn't affect public service." was the moniker when it happened. After all, their messiah Obama is now in office so they are getting a new car and their mortgage paid off.

However, a can of worms has been opened here whether or not people want to admit it. For people in the US Military, there is a requirement that only lawful orders be followed. This requirement is in the Uniform Code of Military Justice(UCMJ). I served this country for 13 years in the Marines and the Army so I am familiar with the UCMJ. So what happens if a soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, or Coastie is getting deployed to a combat zone by Obama. He can appeal the order saying that it is not lawful because the president is legally in power due to Constitution requirement of being a natural born citizen. Therefore this deployment order is invalid. Think that this is far-fetched? It has already happened when an Army Major used this defense regarding his Afghanistan deployment.
This Major's deployment orders were quietly rescinded. A precedent has been set and now others can use this as a "Get out of war, free" card.

My birth certificate lists the hospital and doctor who did the delivery. The obvious explanation as to why they won't release the long form is that it doesn't exist. Doesn't mean he wasn't born there, but it seems that if either Obama or the State of Hawaii had the long form then it would be out there for all to see.

So why is he spending so much money to hide it. Maybe it shows he was illegitimate after all his father was still married to another woman or maybe it shows he had an entirely different father. Whats the big deal about showing the original they could blank out anything that might be embarassing. I think they actually had congressional hearing about McCains certificate. I would have so much more respect for the republicans if one of the fire and brimstone A-list hosts or columnists worshipped by the "base" (e.g., Rush, Hannity, Savage, Beck, Coulter) would come out and vociferously condemn this silly birth certificate thing.

Birthers fail to realize they are doing the republican party more harm than good among the political middle that they need to win elections.

And besides, what is their objective? To install a President Biden into the Oval Office?

It's not a question weather he is a citizen. The question is, is he eligible.

Arnold Schwarzeneger is a citizen. But not eligible to be president according to the constitution. Does the same apply to Obama?

This whole mess could have been avoided if the administration wouldn't have acted in such an evasive manner...unless they have something to hide.

All he has to do is provide the birth certificate. Not some phoney copy, but the real one. Now is that so hard? And what is he trying to hide?

The problem is we have a population of government-educated "entitlement monsters" (as Boortz put it) who voted for this guy. If we discovered that Obama, in fact, was not a citizen and we removed him, we would still be stuck with socialist, power-hungry politicians who want to grow government. Would having Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid be any better? At least Obama's lack of experience might serve as an impediment to enacting his Marxist policies.

DNA proves the lineage. The long form birth certificate would prove the location of birth. Hawaii says they have it. For under $20 and Obama's OK we could all see it. I would hope that would convince many of the birthers. Wouldn't that be cheaper than the millions Obama's spent fighting the challenges?

Although, I'd expect some would call it a fabrication....
