IS OBAMA RUNNING THE SHIP A LITTLE TOO TIGHTLY?

I hope that you got the chance to see the exchange yesterday at White House press briefing. Robert Gibbs starts to get really flustered when a CBS reporter continues to hound him over the fact that Obama town hall events are completely staged. There are no "random" questions from the audience. Everything is pre-selected, every question is screened, etc. So this reporter calls him out on it, and then Helen Thomas gets involved. She says that she has never seen this level of control in the White House before. And if anyone should know, Helen Thomas would.

I just LOVE that woman!

What others are saying

  • Helen Thomas
Neil loves that woman? I thought she was an "old hag", when she protested Bush presidency.
  • This isn't new
The Bush administration did the very same thing, and the townhall debates are staged the same way -- every candidate knows in advance which question is coming and when. This isn't a new concept.
  • HARD QUESTIONS AND HONEST ANSWERS
I think the only tough question that got an honest un-rehearsed answer was asked by Joe the Plumber.
  • Hah
I love how Helen Thomas is great as long as she isn't doing serious reporting with a Republican in office. Because we can't have a Republican called out for his mistakes and deceptions, reporters should just accept his word.
  • He gets it
He gets it ,we all get it. He gust not good at changing the subject
  • well..
As much as I cannot understand why Barack Obama is the president right now (that level of stupidity in our electorate I thought was impossible) George Bush staged these kind of events as well. That's probably why Helen feels she needs to point it out as well - I'm sure she did for Bush, she wants to keep "some" credibility.
  • wow that's what my psy..................................
    Cornpone...........

thanks???? my doctor said the same thing just before he ran out of co2....
  • Helen Thomas...is she a real journalist?
Journalism has become a game of who can sit on the president's lap the longest or who can suck up to him the best. It's nauseating. Helen Thomas appears (appears mind you) to be a journalist/reporter/etc that is not afraid to engage the office of the president with some tough questions that everyone seems afraid to ask (with exception to Chip of course). We need more of this and if the administration continues down the path they are on i think the pendulum will swing back the other way and we will see more of this type of journalism/reporting/etc

    Bravo!!!
  • The enemy of your enemy
Hey Mark, Helen Thomas may have been a giant jerk when Bush was in office, but at least now her anger at the world and sense of self importance is directed at Barack Obama (May He Live Forever)so perhaps something good will come of it.
  • Neal loves who?
I'm still trying to get over Neal typing "I just LOVE that woman!"

Neal usually rails on Helen - now he loves her? WOW.
  • Mr. Neckid, sir ...
some may call you crazy, butt you don't appear to be stooped ...
  • who said dat..........what strings...............
    ok. I know,I know, you think I'm krazy.....wellllll I am!!!!

and who said that SARAH PALIN was unqualified???????????? HA! the joker is on you!!!!!

who is pulling the strings?......some porkchopsneekin' camelluvin' carpetflyin' stinkin' muslim mule-a that's who.

    and you call me krazy.............
  • So who's pulling the strings?
Gibbs is as much of a puppet as Obama is. My guess it's Axelrod or Emmanuel who runs the teleprompter.

What took the MSM so long to finally "get it" that this presidency is a sham?

I recall that the Soviets also used to stage "press conferences" with contrived questions as well. Yeah, all that hopey changey B.S. is starting to wear pretty thin.
  • @ Aedyn
Aedyn, I rest my case !!!
  • Staged press conferences...
Must be a trick Obama learned from Hillary Clinton...
  • Robert Gibbs is an absolute IDIOT.
  • Helen!
I used to cringe at Helen's questioning of Pres. Bush, as she is probably a liberal reporter, but it was nice to see her dish it out to the Obama Administration blowhards!
  • impossible job
Gotta feel sorry for Gibbs. How can he possibly respond to questions regarding this staged presidency??? He would have to basically admit to a conscious deception by the Obama administration.

You have to either be a social giant or a moron to be White House Press Secretary. Gibbs happens to be the latter.
  • reporter
the reporters don't ask questions that will get them in trouble with their corporate bosses. no asking how people work longer hours for less pay that a generation ago.
  • Beautiful
Could it be that the Press is starting to do their job?
  • The real reason why it's staged...
Obama is awful at answering questions "off the cuff". That's why he has teleprompters. Of course a town hall meeting would never allow teleprompters, soooo, you stage the questions so he can practice the answer.

Answering a question is not what's important. Sounding good answering the question is all that counts.
  • Robert Gibbs and Helen Thomas and Co.
I was laughing my not so little backside off watching this clip. When Helen Thomas complains about a Democrat and leftist like this, you gotta know that things are getting bad.
  • Helen Thomas
Got to love Helen sometimes! This is almost as fun watching as the time she went after GW Bush over Iraq.
  • Angry Puppets
Awl. Poor babies. They acted like puppets to get this guy into office and now they are getting angry because he's still pulling on their strings. I hope Obama's manipulation antics really start rubbing these useful idiots the wrong way. Even considering their slobbering love affair, at some level being little more than a pawn in Obama's political game has got to annoy them. To that I say HAHA!

And CBS is probably only angry that Obama took his healthcare propaganda tour to ABC.
  • Pleasant surprise
Wow! Is the press finally waking up? Where the **** were they before the election? I never had much use for Helen Thomas before, but bless her little heart now.

This exchange just made my day!
  • Ernie Jones
You have proof? I didn't think so. Obama will fire Helen Thomas and put her back on the rocking horse.
  • A liberal is ...
someone who believes that 9/11 was staged and that Obama town hall meetings aren't.
  • Funny
Funny how the same people who propped up, groomed, and coddled the Prez are now starting to dislike him.
    Something out of Frankenstein.
  • I don't care for helen thomas even on those two moments a day she's right.
Better late than never, I guess. It will be like clinton, they will bust on him some, but they won't ever really turn on hussein. They have too much invested in him.
  • Gibbs
    PRICELESS!

    Gibbs is a clown!
  • Answer to Hugo
Don't you think the leftist media would have shouted to the hilltops if they had evidence that the Bush townhalls were staged?

This is the job of the media! It's why they have so many freedoms. If they are not going to do their job, then they should lose their freedoms and protections.

Maybe Helen isn't as senile as I thought she was. Maybe.
  • remember jeff gannon?
while we're talking about the white house press corp, anyone want to guess why gay escort jeff gannon/james guckert was given white house press credentials during the bush administration?

    http://tinyurl.com/e2ac4
  • Benito Obama's Media
How long before some liberal-hysteric chimes in with, "WELL, BUSH DID THE SAME THING!".

    Oh....sorry, I didn't notice Hugo's ghost down there. LMAO
  • ha!
If you like the concept of the rule of law and the idea of a president and government that follows the rule of law then obviously you must be a right wing extremist.
  • Helen Thomas
Helen Thomas said that even George Washington let her ask any question she wanted.

Seriously though, this is just the first of what will be a GLORIOUS COLLAPSE of Obama's bulletproof media coverage. 60 Dems in the Senate? Yeah, this is just starting to get good. I know it seems like we're underwater right now, but have patience my friends . . . The country has one good thing working in their favor . . . The Democrats are in charge of EVERYTHING. Failure is almost guaranteed.
  • Anyone who attacks Obama's White House ...
If you attack the Obama Administration, you must be a right-wing radical and a racist - including Helen Thomas!
  • Not Getting My Hopes Up
Could the press actually be starting to do their job? I have to believe that some in the Statist press have some bone of integrity. I won't get my hopes up, but it only takes a few people at each major outlet with some integrity to bring down the house of cards.
  • Staged Town Halls
I wonder if said reporter ever asked the same question of the Bush administration or the McCain campaign about their "town hall meetings"
  • Aunt Helen
    Awesome!
  • About time
Its about time these folk start asking this question. Maybe they would be much more relevant if they had done this a long time ago...to both sides of the political spectrum.
