"Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others."

I'M SORRY, BUT THE GOVERNMENT BELIEVES THAT IS AN 'INAPPROPRIATE RISK'

This Friday the House is going to vote to ban corporate pay practices at financial firms. What kind of pay practices? Anything that the government deems to be an "inappropriate risk." What exactly is considered an "inappropriate risk." Well that is for the government - that means bureaucrats -- to decide. People like Barney Frank or other government hacks will suddenly be in charge of determining what pay practices are appropriate for financial firms in this country. This is a prime example of our imperial federal government run amuck. We are talking about unprecedented power in the hands of the federal government. This is power that would have our Founding Fathers spinning around like they were on a rotisserie.

Slobbering Barney says, "If the risk pays off, you make money .. and if the risk doesn't, you suffer no penalties. Heads you win, tails you break even. It's like selling lottery tickets that only cost you money if they pay off." Yep. That's the man who is going to be in charge of regulating corporate pay for our financial system. His bill would ban any "risky" compensation that could threaten the "safety and soundness" of our economy.

Also, I think that Barney also managed to include in the bill a provision that would require financial companies to disclose to federal regulators any details on "incentive-based" compensation. Any details on ALL incentive-based compensation? We are talking about any and all bonuses paid out by the financial sector.

Oh and you will love this comment. This comes from one of my favorite Representatives. You people in Central Florida should be ashamed. Rep. Alan Grayson says that any attempts to water down this bill would only help "irresponsible managers who loot their companies.". Yep, because that is exactly what these financial institutions are all about.

Here's what this all boils down to: Government hacks who probably would have a tough time making it in the private sector are going to be telling business owners and managers what they can and what they cannot do in the operations of their businesses. This is a wholesale attack on economic liberty and free enterprise, and it is exactly what you would expect of the Democrat party and a president who, in writing, professed his affinity for Communism and Marxism.

You folks with the Obama bumper stickers? Thanks a pantload.

What others are saying

  • Government is an inappropriate risk
Government is an inappropriate risk to handle, healthcare, retirement funds(i.e. Social Security), or any other matter that is not expressly designated for them under the US Constitution.
  • Alan Grayson
I don't live in Graysons district but I can smell that asshole way over here in my district,
  • Going after the FED is like saying I hate Hitler!
Bruce Nyborg, Every Congressman was going after the FED in that hearing, so yes he did a good thing, but no more than every other hack in House. Alan is a A--hole of the Galactic order, see for yourself. http://capmsblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/house-financial-services-committee.html and http://capmsblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/how-much-is-too-much-mr-cogressman.html

God, I can't wait to see him go down in flames in 2010.
  • Have to share this
Is it about inappropriate risk? Sort of, for my employee.

We have one of the "Team Leaders" who we pay $30 each month for the right of us to call him on his cell phone as needed. He pops up just now and wants me to get him a phone and us pay the entire bill. I said "do you really want me auditing your monthly calls?". He said "never mind".
  • Let's make the politicians accountable
How about a bill that holds politicians accountable for the laws they pass? They don't get paid until it is proven their bills did not cause any unintended consequences, such as increasing the deficit, or breaking the backs of all the taxpayers, or causing all wealthy taxpayers to flee the country to escape the 50%+ income tax.
  • I think it's an inappropriate risk to make more than $200K/yr.
as long as the dimocrats are in power.

I'll return to work in 2010.

    Over and out.
  • Alan Grayson
Grayson used false FairTax information in his campaign advertisements and I've been embarrassed by him before he was elected. At least educate yourself on FairTax before using it against an opponent. Unfortunately, only FairTax supporters knew he was lying...
  • Central Florida Voters
PaulB - Sorry, I got the two backwards. Actually,I went to Catholic School. Anyway, I stand behind most of what I said because, essentially it's true. We had horrible choices for representative and too many people voted against the Republican not for Grayson. I voted for Keller not because I liked him but disliked him less then Grayson. My whole point is the GOP didn't give us much of a choice.
  • From
I live in Florida and have two things to say: 1. Embarassed this clown represents Florida, along with Wasserman-Shultz. 2. Are they up in 2010? Hope so.
  • Projection
This is a classic case of govt bureaucrats projecting their tendencies onto others. They're worried about managers 'looting their companies' while they're busy actually looting the country.
  • Barney Frank
The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would steal them away.

Isn't Barney Frank the guy that got caught with a young Paige? And charges never pressed?
  • Juniper
You have your facts wrong, Grayson ran against Keller.

    You are government educated.
  • Grayson does a good job going after the Fed
Don't get too down on Grayson. I've seen some YouTube footage where he did a great job in committee hearings going after the Fed for accountability. It wouldn't hurt to have more Congressmen doing that.
  • vote or breed.
Breed, voting doesn't seem to be cuttin it !! LOL
  • here's an idea
take a page from ACORN. overload the system.

send in a tsunami of paperwork. instead of one bonus a year give them all (hundreds of thousands? millions? of employees) a bonus every day. just a small one. and send in the paperwork. everyday. 365 days a year. see how they like it.
  • which would you choose.......
MeFein...........if you could only choose one of your peeves....vote or breed.....to make them go away....which would it be?????

I know what my choice would be......
  • ooooooooowwwwww!!!!!!!!
RANDY........chew his food????? wouldn't that hurt his food source???????
  • Inappropriate Risks?
When is the Federal Government going to look in to the pay practices of the NBA and it's players?
  • Fascism
Fascism was originally perceived as an alternative to socialism. Fascism is most closely aligned with the big-government left. This pull quote is from "The Fascist Epithet" by Mack Tanner:

"This philosophical counterpoint to socialism in which people were permitted to retain property and personal wealth while the state regulated how private property and wealth would be used to achieve the common good was given a name by Benito Mussolini when he founded the Fascist Party in Italy. He promised to give the Italians the same things that Roosevelt promised to give Americans. Mussolini called the political process for doing that Fascism."

  • Daily Wisdom
    Those who can, do.

Those who can't, pass laws that prevents those who can from doing.

If not for their political "gig", where would your representatives be?

If they couldn't survive in the private sector, why would you take their advice?
  • Do you really think they're writing the laws?
Do you really think the average law nowadays is written by someone outside of the private sector? That's not the way government works and you know it.
  • Matt
    You are right!

And as far as risk having no consequences, that is nonsense. It's why companies fail. Or would if the government would stop stepping in.
  • Central Florida Voters
I did not vote for him but the GOP incumbent (Tom Feeney) was tied to Jack Abramoff, was listed as one of the most corrupt politicians in FL (eventhough, there were no indictments and the FBI said he was not under investigation) and instead of dropping out of it to give someone else a chance. I think people voted against the Republican not for Grayson and so this is who we are now stuck with. He's a total nut job who will hopefully on have one term. The other area representative (Rick Keller) was, also, replace with a Democrat (Suzanne Kosmas) because he broke his term limit pledge and practically didn't do anything at all. So please don't say we deserve Grayson. If the Republicans had the gumption to pull all of their support for for both Feeney and Keller, and bring in some new blood they would have had a better chance instead of sticking with the two incumbents.
  • Fascism
I agree with MeFein. All of you who compared Bush to Hitler, and could never define what exactly made Bush like Hitler- take note. Bush was no Hitler. While I would not compare Obama to Hitler, I'm not so sure about how close to Fascism our latest President is.

The definition of Fascism is a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, SEVERE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL REGIMENTATION, and forcible suppression of the opposition. (thanks to Miriam-Webster)

Exalting Nation or Race over individual- No doubt here. We all have heard BO talk about self-sacrifice for the good of the country.

Dictatorial- Arguably, but one party rule isn't turning out so well now is it? As we have seen, a lot can happen in the next 18 months. The only thing we are missing here folks is the forcible suppression of the opposition, but I would argue that a large tax on firearms or restrictive gun laws would meet this criteria.

Severe Economic and Social Regimentation- Isn't that the main point of this article?

Dear citizen, you make the call!
  • How did we get here?
Well… I blame the teachers unions at government schools because they produce ignorance and support government dependency.
The majorities of these products of government education are easily pandered too and will vote with their feelings and for security. These politicians know that their promises are the distracting shining objects that will keep these dumb masses distracted until voting day.
Most of the government educated couldn’t tell you what real freedom is and most wouldn’t want it because it requires personal responsibility and to make the right choices, but these morons keep bragging how “free” we are and don’t have a clue how they are being controlled more and more each day.
Then these morons have offspring and the cycle continues, the pandering party gets elected and that party wants to control the producers and achievers of this country to buy votes from the dumb masses so they can stay in power.
When the few government educated make it to higher level of education, they are bombarded with more leftist logic (note. Leftist logic is an oxymoron), So they vote for the power hungry politicians by believing the promises, but this changes when they become productive in the workforce and actually have the responsibility to keep a business going, then they realize that the same politician class they once voted for are the ones who want to limit and control them.
Welcome to socialism, where achievement is punished and failure is rewarded
  • Grayson
Well this is no surprise with Alan Grayson, his campaign commercials and his history said he would do exactly what he is doing. He claims to be going after Iraq contractor fraud, but he just gives me this weird feeling like there is something deeper.
  • Barney Frank
I feel sorry for Barney's constant slobbering. The muscles of his face seem to have somehow been stretched beyond human limits, so that he's no longer able to control his saliva patterns. It appears almost as if this has happened from the inside. Perhaps Barney should chew his food more, or something.
  • voter in Grayson's district
Our congressional election last fall was between garbage and crap. I voted for garbage, but the piece of crap won.
  • Takes one to know one
... "irresponsible managers who loot their companies.". Hmmm, yes, it would be something politicans know about for a change.
  • Inappropriate Risk
Without passing judgement one way or the other on this, can you imaging the outrage if Republicans had proposed this course of action?
  • Pass it!
This is one of those laws that could easily go through the Supreme Court, and would probably eliminate minimum wage at the same time.
  • If these anti-capitalist...
corporations and banks would not have been welfare losers since march of last year, congress would never have started violating attainder, and we would not have this problem!
  • Slobbering Barney and Johnny Isakson
"If the risk pays off, you make money .. and if the risk doesn't, you suffer no penalties. Heads you win, tails you break even. It's like selling lottery tickets that only cost you money if they pay off."

Whose fault is that Barney? If it wouldn't have been for this awful TARP bill you and along with Johnny Isakson VOTED for back in the fall of 2008 then these companies would have probably failed.
Were these managers irresponsible? Probably so, but the marketplace never got a chance to punish 'risky' managers and the companies they worked for! THEY GOT BAILED OUT!
  • Inappropriate risk?
This little bit of fascism is brought to you by the useful idiots who voted for Obama.

I have only two problems with stupid people:
    They vote.
    They breed.
