CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE GLOBAL TRADING WAR

The Senate is currently working on its version of a cap-and-tax bill. This should scare the tar out of you ... John Kerry is helping write it. One thing that Kerry is trying to ooch out is a provision in the House's version of the bill that could spark a global trade war. How is that? Simple. The House wants to impose carbon taxes on imports to the United States. The reason: to protect American competitiveness against imports from countries without similar emissions regulations.

Gary Horlick, a prominent trade attorney in Washington, says, "If we re-interpret WTO rules to allow trade barriers based on how things are made, we open up a can of worms and might permit other countries to block our biotech exports, including major items such as corn, soybeans, and other crops." Not to mention the logical headache of trying to determine the carbon content of imports, particularly those that have passed through multiple countries.

Are you starting to get the picture here, folks? Did you even know that this provision was included in the House version of this cap-and-trade scam?

    He DID?!?!?!?
Ohmygosh, why didn't he TELL anyone about it? I bet if he did, more people would have voted for him in 2004!
  • Lurch
Did you really find it necessary to post a pic, Neal? He's even grosser looking when he's smiling!

Excuse me, but I have to go toss lunch now.
  • LOL@Smooth Operator
    OMG you are right!

He could also play the part of an Ent.
  • Too much global warming in Mass
    Neal,

Would you please have Senator Poodle, or anyone else for that matter, what the global mean temperature is supposed to be? I heard BO say that he doesn't want mean global temperatures to rise by more than 2 degrees C, but how does he know what the "appropriate" temperature of the planet is supposed to be?

    Thanks
    Doc Engineer
  • John Kerry
Oh, I hate John Kerry so much. That picture make me want to fly to Washington and punch him in the face.
  • So much extra $
The background of this all is that US manufacturers will only be given so many "credits" in order to produce their products. The credits are for how much carbon your product contains, or rather, how much carbon the gov't THINKS your product should contain. Don't worry - you will be able to buy extra credits when you use all your credits up. Plus, since the gov't will already own the car manufacturers this proposal won't hurt their industry one bit. I am sure that we will let all countries import fairly as long as they purchase credits from our gov't. Much like how Kerry didn't understand international trade in 2004, he doesn't understand it now. You think we have a trade deficit now? Just wait.....
  • Herman Munster is a senator ?
For those of us old enough to remember the tv series, the likeness is eery. At least we can thank God we stopped this mentally deficient egomaniac in 2004.
  • climate change
So, let's see. In 1929 the crash sends us into a deep recession. The gov jumps in and turns it into a full-fledged depression. One of the biggest triggers was the Smoot-Hawley act that put tariffs on many goods imported in the U.S. This set off a trade war that put the whole world in a depression (and very well made it much easier for guys like Hitler to do their thing). But our current crop of idiots has no idea of this history or thinks they can do it better. Martin Luther King had a dream - so do I. It is that in Jan. 2010 the House of Representatives swears in 435 freshman members and the Senate 33 or 34 freshmen.
  • not my favorite....
if it wasn't for his wifes dead former husband this guy would be hustling drinks in a gay bar in frisco.

    CODE IS BJ VRR.......thats funny
  • a free bottle of......................................
will we git a free bottle of katsup....ketchup...catchup.....oh crap mustard with our carbon offset?????

    who farted????? that costs 'xtra......
  • Who pays for natural disasters?
So when volcanos erupt in Hawaii, and the pacific states, do the states have to pay extra for all the carbon footprints that were just added?

I guess Obama is going to have to keep his finger away from any nuke button, he would look like a hippocrit adding all that pollution on the earth! But I guess that's why he's getting rid of some nukes...
  • Kerry
When this gigolo moves out of his mansion, showing his concern, I'll start worrying about my contribution to the scam of "global warming."
  • Look
Just looking at that stupid picture of Kerry makes me want to slap him.... what an idiot!
  • Come on
Hey, come on guys, let's give Kerry credit...he was in Vietnam.
  • Thank God W Won in 2004
Is my thought each time I see an article on this treasonous fool's activities.

Last Saturday we were getting out of our car to walk to the Tea Party site in downtown Venice, FL, a Massachusetts car pulled up behind us and parked. I asked the couple if they were going to the Tea Party too. They didn't answer, but the wife asked her husband if he thought their car would be OK with its Obama sticker on it. I then ragged on them about the quality of their state's representation--a senator who let his female companion drown in his car, a representative--slobbering Barney, a representative--Markey, the "cap and trade" fool, a traitor for a senator. I'll admit I wasn't very nice, but it was fun until they headed away from the Tea Party site.
  • Can we cap Kerry's face?
It gets uglier and uglier every time I see it. Can't we put a cap on how horrifying it is allowed to become? His shriveled eyes, pointy chin, and massive hair really creep me out.
  • Boortzism?
    "ooch" ?
  • cap and tax
Would it be right to call this a tariff?
  • Boortz Come on man....not fair
You should warn us before you post a picture of him......
  • poodle
poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle poodle
  • This stinks of the great depression
A lot of economists believe the Hawley-Smoot tariff is the cause of the great depression. This cap-trade is becoming the next Hawley-Smoot
  • Don't these idiots ever learn?
What is it about Democrats/leftists that can't learn form history. If one remembers, the last time there was a worldwide recession to this magnitude, the Congress, which has the power to levy and collect taxes, passed the Smoot Hawley tariffs which Hoover signed and things rolled downhill quickly. A trade war followed. (For all you "I love FDR and think that he was a great president" types out there, just remember that FDR only extrapolated on Hoover's policies.)
However, if one checks the Harding presidency, there was a recession in 1921. What did Harding do?? Nothing except cut taxes and goverment spending. The economy recovered six months later.

So why is it that the American people and their elected officials apply the historical lesson if they are trying to get the economy to recover? Oops that may not be their objective. Their objective may be more power and wealth grabs and in that case, their plan is working.
  • More Carbon Taxes
Kerry et al do not care about trade or retaliation or jobs. It is all about TAX. More revenue to fund the multitude of spending projects that the democrat-controlled Congress is cramming down upon the nation. If manufacturers wither and die in the U.S. because of Cap'n Trade, consumers will have no choice but to seek out imported products. The only thing to do then is to tax those imported products. Makes perfect sense, only in the mind of a liberal. Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.
  • CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE GLOBAL TRADING WAR
I wonder how much John Kerry paid his plastic surgeon so he wouldn't look like a "haunted tree"?
  • Just realized this?
Are you just now realizing how foreign trade can be used for political purposes? I would not worry too much about what one attorney speculates.
  • Well
    Its Smoot-Hawley 2.0!
  • Why not?
Well, why not have John Kerry do it? He was in Vietnam after all. That alone should qualify him to write the bill.
Did I mention that Kerry was in Vietnam?
  • Not sure what to do here.
if we HAVE to "cap and trade" (which I think is really, really stupid), we HAVE to apply the tax to anything not taxed at its source.... otherwise all manufacturing moves overseas to avoid the tax.

if we apply the tax to them we are sparking a trade war.

    not many good choices here.
