WILL OBAMA LIMIT UNION COMPENSATION?

This one is delicious.

Now that King Obama has decided that it is the government's place to guide private companies to appropriate levels of compensation ... business groups want to know if Obama plans to do the same for labor union bosses.  Katie Packer, executive director of the Workforce Fairness Institute says, "Given that union bosses' job performances have yet to be scrutinized despite numerous, credible reports that they have engaged in 'creative accounting' and have mismanaged and underfunded worker pension plans, while wholly funding their own, is deplorable."

Obama limit union executive pay?  Are you kidding me?  This guy owes his job to these union executives ... they get a pass.  So, the answer to the question is a big, resounding "hell no."  Obama knows who got him elected.  Heck, just yesterday we linked to an article that explained how the labor unions are broke after paying to get Obama elected.  I have a better chance with Angelina Jolie than businesses groups have of convincing Obama to touch labor union bosses.

What others are saying

  • Include the Wprld of Education
Why is no one looking at the Government Universities? How do the University Presidents and Coaches make huge salaries on the government dime?
  • Interesting metaphor...
I noticed something rather peculiar on my drive in to work the other day. Right across the street from where I work is an old shut down GM plant (not part of the recent tidal wave of closures, mind you). I notice that every day. The odd part is that I just noticed that right across the street from the GM plant is the local UAW chapter's building/clubhouse.

So here we have an old decrepit plant, but from the looks of it, the unions' digs are in fine repair. Heck, there's even a sign out front advertising events fairly regularly...

Coincidence? Or perhaps a foreshadowing of events to come?
  • Since WE the tax payers own GM, can we kick the unions out???
  • Uhhh, no.
What we do see is an unelected "pay czar" named Kenneth Feinberg.

My take is that this is part of a plan to take over all privately-held businesses in the USA and insert democrat cronies in CEO positions--a covert nationalization plan, if you will.

    New Zealand, here I come.
  • mafia
    no such thing!
  • the heading of the column...........
indicats neal has had a brain fart.

    of course NOT!!!

if he tried to do 'sumptin like that his lil' tiny testies would become his ol' ladys new ear rings.
  • Government Motors
Well since becoming government motors, doesn't that make anyone working for GM or any unions associated with GM government workers?
  • Careful what you wish for?
This govt has never demonstrated the ability nor the inclination to consider longterm effects of their actions.
  • Labor unions are still run by the Mafia.
  • One Word Answer
    NO
  • Unions and Obama
The UAW and the Obama adminstration are not only political partners now, they are business partners as well with the Chrysler sale.

I own a Dodge Caravan, and received a letter yesterday from Chrysler Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli. It contained an "Owner Loyalty Certificate" worth $1000 toward the purchase of a "new or unused 2008 or 2009 Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep vehicle." And that was followed by a list of vehicles to which this discount didn't apply. I have no intention of redeeming it.

I think I'm going to return it to Mr. Nardelli and suggest he give my $1000 to the secured bond holders, who got royally screwed by every level of the "checks and balances" in our federal government on this deal.

After all the shenanigans that have taken place with this administration, GM and Chrysler, I do not intend to buy another union built car from any company. My disgust runneth over.
  • WWJHD?
What would Jimmy Hoffa do? We hear about CEO's and their high pay and corporate jets and abuse of the system...has anybody really looked at union leaders closely? Where are Kieth Olbermann and Chris Matthews on this subject? Wolf? Katie? I don't hear anybody in the media saying much about the unions.Only those evil corporate types! I wonder if the fairness doctrine would balance things out a little...
  • Union Boss Pay
Wrong. This one WOULD be delicious, but you know damn well it's going to quickly and very quietly just go away. President God will have someone's head before He'll be held to a single standard on any issue.
  • Obama wage control
If he wants to control wages, let's start with the media, then move to pro athletes, then on to Hollywood. After he has that under control, then we can talk about banks and big business. Would love to have someone ask the lib elites how they will like their pay limited by the government
  • Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it.
Since the government is now the CEO and Board O'Directors of GM, that now means they have a fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder value, which is really ironic since their largest shareholder would be the unions and presumably the first place to make cuts to maximize the shareholder value.

Consequently this means that the unions can sue the federal government for breach of fiduciary duty when they overpay the union workers. On the other hand, if there are real shareholders in GM (mutual funds, Joe the Plumbers, etc.), they can sue the federal government for breach of fiduciary duty for NOT maximizing shareholder value.
