While the rest of the world is arguing about whether or not Sonia Sotomayor is a racist - she isn't - and concerned about the government takeover of General Motors ... the Democrats are busy working on their baby ... nationalized healthcare.

The looters are determined to have a bill out by August and so they are hashing out the details of their grand plans. Those details include two things: how do we trick the people into believing they have a choice when it comes to healthcare and how can we further demonize the rich to pay for it?

Do you want to know where we stand right now? Read this, from the Politico:

If Congress were to take a vote on a health reform bill today, Democrats and Republicans would find a surprising level of agreement -- so much so that the broad outlines of a consensus plan already are taking shape.

Sick or healthy, rich or poor, all Americans would be guaranteed access to health insurance.

In fact, they'd probably be required to purchase it -- perhaps through mandates in the law that would include stiff tax penalties for anyone who tried to opt out.

Newly created insurance marketplaces would make finding a plan as easy as shopping for cheap airfare. People could keep their coverage, even if they switched jobs. And they might be able to choose between private insurers and a government-backed plan.

But here's the catch -- none of this would come free, with the wealthiest Americans likely to face higher taxes to help pay for coverage for all.

If the Republicans don't get their act together real quick, there is going to be absolutely no hope to block this monstrous excuse for government growth and control.

What others are saying

  • its failing in other countries
franec, britan, canada, these countries have universal health care n its FAILING!!! france trying to get out of it. canada sends 300-400 women each yr to usa for emergency child birth. 65+ u get NO HELP, go home n die!!! hope u sheeple, specially 65+ are ready to go home n die!!! if they cover everyone, then ur too old n use too much health care. great way to reduce the population!!! baaa baaa little sheeple big bro will prot u!!!!
  • Healthcare
Just look at medicare and how terrible it is. I do not want the government making my medical decisions. I want that to between my doc and me. End of story. If this does go through, I don't care if the republicans get a clean sweep in 2012 there is no going back. Europe's been trying to "go back" for a while now, it ain't happening.
  • stepcousin
truth hurt? And I certainly don't need your permission to put my two cents worth in if they will take your plug nickel.
  • of course she is
Of course she's a racist. Most minorities in this country hate whites and other minorities. We're all just a hateful bunch in this country - or so it seems. Her comment was wrong, everybody knows that including Neal. He just likes to be on the opposite side of an obvious argument.

Reps can't do anything about this healthcare bill - maybe now republicans or libertarians can understand what it means in a close election to go out and vote for a third party candidate who doesn't stand a chance. You end up with a socialist president who wants to turn this country into another european/ south american nation. Pick your battles people!! It was the "not-democrats" who put that bozo in office.
  • I use Government Healthcare...
...and it is a joke. I am retired military and live near a military post with a military hospital and what I will describe is one model for Govt HC. This is my personal experience, and the timeline is accurate.

I sustained a back injury some years ago and recently the injury was becoming aggrevated. The injury was originally sustained in service related activity.

Day 1: get an appointment to see my HCP (health care provider)...who happens to be a NP...not a PA or MD.

Day 6: See my HCP "Doc" who gives me a routine exam and makes appointments for me at the blood lab and X-ray and a follow up appointment

Day 14: My follow up. "Looks like the old injury is causing sciatic inflammation due to bone spurs...take Motrin x3 daily, another prescription, and use a heat pad."

Day 29: Make another appointment to see "Doc" and further explain that the pain is not mitigated in any way...I would like her to refer me to Orthopedics.

Day 34: Another appointment with "Doc" who refers me for MRI.

Day 63: Get my MRI (yes, it took 29 days to get it done ...first MRI experience...pretty cool).

Day 66: Go back to see "Doc". "Gee looks like the Xrays had it all wrong...you have two herniated discs (L3/L4 and L2)and what looks like a miniscule bone fragment at your L3" Currenly on Prednezone awaiting the Physical Therapy folks to call with my appointment for my initial consultation and referral to an off-post specialist (5-7 days...not sure what the calendar looks like yet)...at least that is the plan.

63 to 70 days. Or I could have gone "off the res" at my expense which I am about to do with a PT specialist, massage therapist and chiropractor depending on what the folks at my consultation say...since they cannot cover retiree expenses (TRICARE will pick up some)...meanwhile would someone mind please getting this railroad spike out of my lower back?
  • You all fell for it...
52% of you posted comments about Sotomayor being racist, when you should have been posting about gubmint healthcare. Suckers.
  • Watch what's going on in the UK
The Conservatives are going to win the next election, no doubt about it. And one of their first projects will be.....privatizing the healthcare system.

While europe moves further to the right, America retreats into the puddle-deep logic of socialism and government dependence.
  • Racist or Not?
As has been said here, by the Liberals and media definition of racism, if a white person had said that they'd be defined and labeled a racist.

I suggest we agree with Liberals and call it racism.

Liberals only seem to learn (if ever) when they have to face their own values and judgements. Let them roast on the sharp stick they themselves have carved.
  • Healthcare - not a right!
Some of you crack me up, when the facts are staring you in the face. Use your computer for something other then posting and go read the news coming out of the U.K. I have friends over there and they find it so damn funny that we are trying to start GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE when they are trying to find a way to privatize their system. I saw the argument about the difference between the healthcare at 30K and 300K. I don’t hear anybody talking about the healthcare that government officials will get. You can bet that they won’t be treated the same way as us.

But then again, their wonderful people, their looking out for the little guy! (N O T)

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • Joyce
If I wanted a woman's opinion, I would've asked about detergent or diapers. We're discussing discrimination here, so let's leave the brainwork to the men, okay?
  • Tag Line on somebody else's email:
"Elected officials should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers. That way, it would be easier to identify their corporate sponsors."
  • White racist
I totally disagree that only whites are capable of being racist. Anytime you have people of different colors, you can have racism from either side. It is not something we are born with however. Watch babies and toddlers of all races, they get along fine. They might be curious, but unless they see others treating them differently, they won't either. It's a learned affliction and can be taught by ANY race.
  • la racista
    Neal,

    You're wrong about Sotomayor. She's a racist.

For the most part, I typically agree that honkies are the only people capable of racism, but racism has nothing to do with who has the power (that's a bunch of black power BS). It has more to do with who feels superior to whom, and for whatever reason it's always white people who make those sort of asinine statements. Ethnic minorities tend to feel inferior in this country because they look around and see a country that was developed and innovated by white colonists, which is the same reason hicks feel artificially superior.

That being said, most non-white honky-haters are just plain bigots. Sotomayor is the exception. She made a blanket statement that latina females were smarter than white men, which fits the definition of racism.

I won't tolerate a white racist, and I certainly feel the same way about non-white racists. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
  • Racism
Neal, how do you know she isnt a racist, by your own definition? I have heard you rebuke many, many callers on their lack of understanding of the meaning of the word racism. You rightly point out that racism is the believe in the biological superiority of one race over another.

This woman states that her race (not her experience, not her background, but that she is a Latina woman) makes her better able to come to a wise decision than a member of another race, specifically whites.

Now, by your own definition, how do you know she isnt a racist? Sure, the spin now that she is a supreme court nominee is that well, she meant her experiences, but now she has something to lose. Why the need to single out whites? What about black females? Is there some personal bias that makes her superior to whites only? Oh yeah, and on top of that she is affiliated with a group called....THE RACE! But remember kids, theres a good intentions behind them too, so we cant call them racists either.

No matter what anyone says, the fact that we are even listening to her try to explain is far more than we would EVER give a white male that made similar remarks. If a white male or female were associated with a group that advocated protecting white people, there would BE NO discussion of what the group was really all about. That person would be branded a racist period.
  • quality of health care
    that was not me
  • Other ideas
You asked for other ideas? How about the doctor that was willing to give contracts to his patients for health care in exchange for a flat fee monthly? Keep it between the doctor and patient, have a catastrophic policy with someone like AFLAC for anything more serious. Those are super cheap btw.

More ideas? Okay, I've recorded and watched some of it but on a Hannity (yeah I know whoda thunk this coming from him but he was just the host) there were a large group of Republicans that presented "6 ideas to save America" and health care was one of those. I will be watching it in detail and posting on my blog, but yeah there are lots of ideas floating around but you have to do one thing.

    LISTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Sotomayor isn't a racist?!?
As a white male who has lived experiences an hispanic female couldn't possibly fathom, I can arrive at much better conclusions than she could.

And according to Neal, this isn't a racist statement?!? Come on Neal, you're wrong on this one.
  • Think only the rich will pay for Government Healthcare? Think again!
Now stop for a minute and reflect on Social Security.

Every employed individual who receives a W4 pays through a deduction in their salary or wage for Social Security. The ideal goal is to structure the Government Healthcare system in the same way.

    Here is why.

Social Security is a capital generating program. Basically working people put money in throughout their working years, and then draw on those funds in their retirement years.

In the mean time the Government uses that money (like a slush fund) to fund other programs that are non self-sustaining, or of particular interest or benefit to the Government.

When you die, guess who gets to keep nearly all of the money you paid into Social Security?

Now imagine a Government Healthcare Program where deductions are collected in the same way, meager payments or care is rendered to the sick, and when you die the Government will keep what money you paid into the program. In this case though, the Government will have the ability to withhold or refuse treatment to individuals in order to speed up the dying process.

This is something both Democrats and Republicans will utilize and abuse.

That is why you will find little opposition in Washington.
  • @ Mr. Smythe
You said, "The teacher earning $30000 a year deserves the same quality health care for herself and her family as the lawyer earning 300000 a year."

Simple question: Why? Seriously....why is that? Because you say so or someone else says so? Really - tell me by what measure you come to this conclusion that they "deserve" it.

Oh wait...my bad, you answered that with, "The teacher's contribution to society is just as high as the lawyer's."

Ohhhhh....so they've made a contribution to society. And just what led you to draw this conclusion that just because someone teaches or designs an airplane or defends a plaintiff or whatever that they have earned the right to health insurance. I know that's not what you said, but it is what you implied. So who determines this contribution to society and to what levels one has contributed?

And please cite me one legitimate example to defend this statement, "And no-one should be denied coverage because they don't earn enough".

BTW - I've seen several commercials lately for companies that are offering health insurance for $6 a day with no pre-existing condition exclusions. Doing the math it would seem that the total per month is less than a typical cell phone text plan. By Joe...even a $30K per year teacher should be able to afford that. Well - that's assuming she actually believes in taking care of herself.
  • another one misses the point
"All it has to do is be affordable to anyone who wants it, allow free choice of doctors, no hassles to either the patient or provider over medically legitimate costs, and no exclusion or dropping of patients. C'mon, show us the private sector can do better! Or are you content to just sit there and whine?"

As Greg points out healthcare is NOT a right. It does not have to be affordable to anyone who wants it. Also, do you really think that government run healthcare is really going to achieve all these requirements you list?
  • STEVE DUTCH
How about YOU show us a SINGLE government-operated program that works, then maybe I'll put a speck of faith in socialized medicine.

    (chirp-chirp)
  • Greg Young
thank you for your reply. i can learn something every day.
for these "elective" surgeries. why do you have to wait? not enough doctors, or what? federal bureaucracy?
and what do canadians do to fix this?
  • Government Healthcare
Government Healthcare would have the efficiency of the post office and the compassion of the IRS. Be careful what you wish for.
  • Yes, she is.
Could you imagine if a white man had said this? I really hope your just being sarcastic saying she is not racist. I agree with 90% of what you say. Not this though Mr. Boortz.
  • (Darth Vader) Entitlement is strong with this one!
"The teacher earning $30000 a year deserves the same quality health care for herself and her family as the lawyer earning 300000 a year."

Well, since we are free to move about this country, I also assert that I'm entitled to the same quality car as the $300,000 lawyer. NOT!

Do you hear yourself? Healthcare is a product, not a right. Freedom is our right. The freedom is the fact that if you can put the same number of dollars on the counter as the lawyer, you can buy the same service. Pretty simple in my book.

Which cars have bigger sales: hummers or hyundais? Hyundais! Which market of entertainment is making more money: opera or movies? Movies. The free market always push towards broader reach of customers, which in turn pressures them to offer less expensive options to stay competitive.

While there may be rich, expensive health care services, the more you let the free market do its thing, the more options (and less expensive ones) will appear for you and me vs. the $300,000 lawyer.
  • Sotomayor IS A RACIST
This time Neal you are wrong by your own declaration of the definition of a racist. Sotomayor did not just say that SHE would more often than not make better decisions than a 'white male', but ANY Latino Woman would. Combine her statement with her La Raza support, and there is a compelling case against your idiotic statement.
  • Health Care
So the target date is August? That gives conservatives two months to come up with a plan that shows the private sector can do it better. All it has to do is be affordable to anyone who wants it, allow free choice of doctors, no hassles to either the patient or provider over medically legitimate costs, and no exclusion or dropping of patients. C'mon, show us the private sector can do better! Or are you content to just sit there and whine?

    ......(crickets chirping).....
  • What?
She isn't? I agree that it's not the most important battle in the world, but you're being naive if you think she's not a racist. She has the same mentality as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
  • Canadian Health Care
    @tshirtdoctor

I live in Canada and can tell you it is much worse here. Try getting an "elective" surgery for something like a torn ACL or a herniated disk in your back. You will be put on an 18 month waiting list and forced to do two recoveries even though the medical "best practice" is to get surgery as soon as possible if you are a certain candidate for surgery to limit the amount of painful rehab you have to do.

Not surprisingly anyone with means also carries private insurance (often US insurance).

Did I mention the cost? The effective tax rate I paid last year was about 60%. It is supposed to be so high because of health care, but then I have to pay another $100 a month for my state health care insurance.

I guess Canadian health care is pretty cool if you live in Newfoundland but they don't pay a penny for it. Canada gives it to them as a benefit of joining Canada. I guess if it were really free it wouldn't be that bad.
  • Sotomayor
By her comment alone, racism cannot be determined, but she is absolutely prejudiced. If she were white and said that about hispanics or blacks, the idiot minorities would be screaming "racism," but there is no proof there.
But I think SHE IS racist because statements like that are not made by someone who secretly thinks white people are great. Also, as one poster already said, she is a member of La Raza. How much more racist an organization can you imagine? Hispanic KKK.
  • Government Healthcare...
I would like someone to point me to the successful government healthcare programs they now have in place? Do they deny certain types of procedures? Do they have fraud and corruption within their systems? Do they deny certain groups of people coverage?

So if this new healthcare system is put in place, will medicade, medicare and SCHIP all be discoutinued. If this new healthcare system is to provide "guaranteed" health insurance to anyone, then the other programs will be discontinued since they won't be needed. Yeah, like that will happen!

So let's see, I pay for my own healthcare, SCHIP, Medicade and Medicare, and now they want me to kick in for another program?
  • Healthcare Reform?
It's amazing how badly the public can get reamed by the government when they call their meddling efforts "reform". National healthcare is a foregone conclusion. I'm in the healtcare business and I can see it coming.
Part of the Healthcare "reform" scenario is competitive bidding. You see, Medicare and Medicaid programs are currently bidding out your healtcare to the lowest bidder with no consideration to the quality of service because the government has no way to evaluate or monitor it. This is the future of nationalized healthcare. Who can do it the cheapest with no regard to quality. Enjoy folks. You wanted it-you got it.
  • government growth and control.
its amazing that this area of government growth is the only area that you complain about. what about the military growth and control? what about are police state growth and control? what about our medias conglomerates growth and control?
i'm no fan of insurance companies. they are a rip off. they take your money for years, and when you try to use them, you'll find that you've been rejected.
    V. Lombardi -- you said the quality of care will go down. why to you say that? do you think the quality of doctors in canada is any worse than america? or is it what your politicians say it is, and you believe them, without fact checking for yourself?
remember, neal said you should examine what he said, and look it up for youself.
  • Racisim
Neal, you say/think Sotomayor is not a racist. How then do you explain her membership in La Raza?
  • Sotomayor
In your opening statement for this post you state that Sotomayor isn't a racist.Well Neal,by your own definition, she is.She has publicly stated that she thinks someone who is a Latina woman would make better decisions than a white male.By that statement she is stating that she thinks she is better than a white male. And by your own definition which I have heard you profess many times on air that racism is thinking one race is better than another. She thinks she is better than you simply because of your inferior race & gender.
  • quibble?
you bring up the question of whether Miss Sotomayor is racist and state "she isn't". since you, like myself, are not able to read her mind, you have no basis to state this as fact.
  • Remember Stephen King's, "Quitters Inc?"
Could nationalized health care quickly become sinister, twisted and macabre, with government controlling every aspect of one's life as it pertains to the health of each individual?

Yes, Stephen King has already written the prescription for health care; the government can just expand it, and oh, the possibilities are endless!
  • Correct?
Am I correct in saying that there is a 30 minute infomercial out that advocates private sector insurance instead of the Obama plan? If so, need to have a link to it or put it on You Tube.
  • Everyone should have access to affordable healthcare
The teacher earning $30000 a year deserves the same quality health care for herself and her family as the lawyer earning 300000 a year. The teacher's contribution to society is just as high as the lawyer's. And no-one should be denied coverage because they don't earn enough or have a pre-existing condition.
Now the big question is "Which is better"? Inefficient government running health care - or our current for-profit insurance companies deciding who gets coverage and who gets denied. Denied services are profitable for insurance companies. Both systems have faults. Perhaps the solution is to eliminate all quotas to medical schools, and graduate way more doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. Let there be some real competition among doctors and hospitals. Let's eliminate this oligopoly.
  • Sonya
Don't know what you were drinking in the Grand Canyon. Maybe you were actually in a government re-education camp but how can you say Sonya whats her name is not a racist if she were white and said that about a minority the ship would hit the sand. If you say a latina female is better than a white male you are not only a racist but gender biased as well. Anyhow empathy on the Supreme Court is much more dangerous than racism. Decisions are supposed to be based on the law not on a pity party.
  • Sotomayor
Judge Sotomayor may not be a racist, but that was a racist comment. If you look at almost every measure of academic achievement, Latinos routinely score below Caucasians. You know, in areas like Reading Comprehension... So, I would expect that Latins would actually make worse conclusions than Caucasian men
  • I could tell you a little bit of what is going on...
but you would never believe me. The truth is so sensitive that the ones protecting the secrets don't even know what they are protecting, but they will kill to protect it. Government is so compartmentalized that alot of times the outcomes of the most sinister dark projects will go completely unnoticed even by the people involved with the projects. Only a very select few people have access to all the files. Hell Washington has entire agencies that are off the books that literally do nothing except feed misinformation and disinformation to the public. This disinformation campaign has been conducted since at least the 1950's in this country. Intelligence agencies are becoming increasingly more powerful with every passing year. With more and more liberties being taken from Americans it is becoming obvious that these agencies are starting to overstep their bounds. Alot of people do not realize that these agencies are working with defense contractors and other special groups. The real questions are where do they get their funding and what are they working on? Also...what makes them think they can hide their activities from Congress?
  • Blocking Mode
The only way to get the attention of the itty bitty pinheads in DC is threaten to cut off their their life blood. M-O-N-E-Y!

Call, FAX, email any method you can think of to express your displeasure of the unsustainable new and old entitlements. Let them know that they need not bother asking you for donations because you are going to support their opponent, either in the primary or in the general election, if they continue to go along with the current plans. While you are at it, send a little love note to Mikey at the RNC and tell him to fish or cut bait, but there is no money in the future if he doesn't start articulating a more conservative position and opposition of the grand give-away to everyone that won't vote Republican no matter what.
  • The Last Sentence
The Republicans better get their act together. If they do not obstruct this now and concede to the moderates in the party then I am done with them. This is not the time to reach across the aisle or search for votes in the next election. This is the time of principles. We need to stand up against all of the turn coats and send them home. Democrat-lite is not going to cut it.
  • I just love how I'll be required to participate
So much for freedom. I will be required to purchase insurance even if I do not need it. Wait if I do not need it, it means I must have some $. It would be insensitive if not even racist for me. I gotta "give back" don't I?
  • misdirection play
Neal: you have a great point. This Sotomayor nomination, while is dangerous itself in the fact that she will legislate from the bench instead of interpret the law, is a diversion to keep the masses' attention away from Obamacare.

Unfortunately, even though you have a large audience, many of the American people have not realized this.

When Obamacare comes to pass, I do know that I will have to exercise my "rational self interest", as Ayn Rand puts it, and look for certain other jurisdictions to get certain medical tests and procedures done, i.e. medical tourism.

Furthermore, when Obamacare becomes law, the quality of care will go down.
