Just when Barack Obama and the Democrats are on the verge of erecting a government-run healthcare system in this country, other counties are reverting to private options. Take this latest news from Great Britain, which is being called a "radical shift in government policy." Cancer patients who are facing long waits in the National Health Service will be given cash to go seek private treatment.

I'm not kidding, folks. The government is going to pay people to opt out of its government-run system and seek treatment from private providers. Basically the legislation would ensure that cancer patients who cannot get an appointment with a specialist within two weeks after being referred from a GP would be provided funding for a private consultation.

Ironically enough, this plan is being included in Gordon Brown's "Building Britain's Future." Meanwhile, the United States is attempting to build the entirely opposite future - going in the opposite direction.

What others are saying

  • Socialism vs the individual
Mark, socialism is the natural way of an urbanized society's development. The further you get from an agrarian society, the less self reliance is no required and group reliance becomes more essential. As the individual becomes more reliant on others, the less that individual controls his or her destiny. Therefore socialism is more acceptable in the urbanized NE then in the SW or Midwest.
  • Butt Neckid
you can always tell when it's getting close to the posting day....
  • @Jeffrey
You Ron Paul supporters just amaze me: by not supporting the RNC candidate you cost us the election because you all sat on the sidelines and pouted and cried boo hoo. Sure, I held my nose and voted for McCain but look at what we have now--are you telling me that what we have today is better than he would have been? Give me a break.

Well get over it, get back to reality and back the RNC so we can take back the house/senate in 2010.
  • Notes
Socialism has been tried in almost every country in the world and has failed.
A.D.D. moment- With the future health care, what do you call 16 Americans standing side by side? Answer: A row of teeth.
  • reverse at high speed................................
amerika has been behind the curve on most things............

however, once we decide to get off our collective asses we race to the head of the pack. that is no longer the case, we are no longer a power house. hell we even out source nookie (sanford). socialism and marxism are the rules.....

  • 2010 looking good??
How can that be? Republicans nor Libertarians have been producing a viable candidate for years regardless of the branch of government. They certainly haven't in the last 8 months in response to the current administration. Sure, there are exceptions...Ron paul for example; however, when are We the People going to place the "good guys" in office???

2010 isn't looking good for anyone. 2012 here we come...and I'm not talking about the election cycle.
  • the only thing scarier than the current situation is ...
If we all rise up and "vote the rascals out!", with what shall we replace them?
  • Good point Joe
I have a friend working at the Cleveland Clinic who is originally from New Zealand. We argue quit a bit about health care, as they are pretty much socialist. Sent her this link so she can see how it just doesn't hold up long term.
  • Article Ref
I am by no means an advocate for government run healthcare systems. However, I do believe that your current comments here take the article cited out of context. A quote from the article reveals that out of the millions using the NHS in GB, a very small percentage will use this program.
"The measure is only expected to affect a few hundred patients, as nearly all NHS trusts in England meet the deadline."
  • As Europe moves to the right, Obama moves to the left
2010 is looking better by the day for conservatie candidates. When people really start to see that:
    a) The so-called stimulus/porkulus package has failed
    b) The US Dollar has collapsed
    c) Inflation will erode the purchasing power of salaried individuals
    d) Energy costs soar and cause and plunge the U.S. into a Great Depression

Dimocrats and Obama will be toast. I only pray that we can undo the damage that these traitors have caused and restore this country to its rightful position as the leader of the free world.

  • Neal, you must parse this correctly
Sure, you'll get an appointment with a specialist.... who will glance at you and put you on the waiting list for the tests, scans, chemo, surgery. Of course, the earliest appointment will be a year from now... but you saw the specialist! No cash for you!
  • UK Care
Friends of mine in the UK say that if you need cancer treatment you have to fly to Latvia to buy the treatments. US run healthcare will be great for the Mexican economy because that is where you will have to go to be treated.
  • Scary Times
I can't remember when I have been more terrified in recent history. If our politicians pass cap and trade and the healthcare proposals, this country is toast. Our government officials are looking to seize as much power as they can. I can't believe Americans are pushing for this to pass when our forefathers fought against this kind of taxation and government control. It is so frustrating that we don't seem to learn the lessons of the past. We are currently fighting against terrorism in the middle east. Why can't we stand up against this economic terrorism right here at home. I think most citizens don't do the research to find out what this really means for our country and apparently it is too much of a bother for our politicians to read what they are about to pass. This is truly a SCARY time we are living in. God help us all.
  • Yet more...
evidence of what I have been saying all along. They are seizing on this opportunity to create a New World Order. They have been planning this for a long time.
