THE UNEMPLOYMENT GUESSING GAME

When Obama was about to take office, his top advisors predicted that unemployment would stay at or below 8% if Congress passed his grand stimulus plans.  In fact, the report was written by Joe Biden's chief economist, Jared Bernstein.  So Congress passed his grand stimulus plans and guess what?  Unemployment is up to 9.4%.  Why is that?  Because it seems as though Bernstein's report was "not aligned with reality."

You do know, don't you, that  there were plenty of economists saying that Obama's economic stimulus plan would not only work but end up hurting out economy"  Well,  Joe Biden now says that "everyone guessed wrong at the time the estimate was made ...".  No, not everyone, Joe.  Just the people whom you relied upon to give you estimates that you wanted to hear, rather than those based on reality.

This is the same thing that is going to happen with our healthcare debate, folks.  Last week I told you that the Congressional Budget Office ... sometime today actually ... is supposed to release its figures on the predicted cost of Obama's healthcare reform scheme.  Democrats, knowing that this cost projection is going to be WAY more than anticipated, are already preparing the public to discount the CBO figures and stick with estimates from the White House.  Clearly, those numbers will be far less daunting than those we can expect from the CBO.

The truth is that in Washington they don't care about the costs, either human or monetary.  They care about the power.  Nothing more.  Power is the motivating factor behind government health care.  These politicians know that when they control your healthcare they control you.  All too many Americans are willing to give themselves to the government in return for healthcare.  Sad.

Speaking of healthcare ......

What others are saying

  • How long until
How long until we get reports that what they REALLY said was that it would stay under 10%, despite everybody's memory to the contrary
  • Unemployment
they did not belived that the rich would pick up there toys and wait for someone new to come out to play with
Change that they were not thinking of.
    Butt wads
  • why the hell is BO "guessing?"
Its bad enough he is guessing. But to guess wrong on top of that.

To quote BO junior, "...we all guessed wrong..." is not how to run a country. A casino maybe, but not a country.

Where is that dart throwing, stock picking chimp when you need him?
  • Biden on the economy
I think it's hilarious that this link was on Yahoo.

Biden is a yahoo. What a pathetic pick for VP.
  • Hey
Hey, is there any way to find that fast food guy from Miami who was drooling over Obama to see if HE is better off now? I think it was Jesse something...
  • Your Kidding me, RIGHT?
Joe buddy, you’re kidding me right? YOU and the PRESS underestimated the economy and the effects of the stimulus package. YOU ARE KIDDING?

Then that must mean I am a genus. Because I said from day one that this stimulus package had nothing that created long term jobs or did anything to slow down the current job loses. WOW, if I was Press – I could have VETO this Garbage and saved America a Fortune.
  • Stan do the math
Some very rough figures and I'll use your 1b per month figure.

"new health care" cost approx 3 Trillion dollars

    "Iraq" approx 1 Billion

    3 trillion / 1 billion per month * 12 months per year = 250 years.

So we'd have had to been in iraq for roughly 250 years to equal out what Washington wants to do to us now? That seems like a bit different scale of spending to me.

How about the 700 Billion stimulus... we know that number is actually higher but will stay with 700 B.

Thats 58 and 1/3 yrs of "Iraq" spending.
  • Note
We can be in Year 4 of Obama and Bush will STILL get the blame for everything. Libs never take the blame for anything, but they are always the first to take credit for something when it goes good.
  • Stanley!
What the hell good does it do for you lefties to constantly go on about "where were you when..."!!!! He's gone, and your buddy Obama is doing three times the damage (so far) that Bush ever thought of doing! Okay? Get it now???? Everyone in Washington has been lying to us for decades, where have YOU been? (edited for how I really feel before webwench got it)
  • Arab Spending
Where were all these people complaining about spending when Bush was shoving over a billion bucks a month to Iraq? Did they not think that money could be better used for non-Arab countries, like AMERICA
  • oh damn............
you all know the answer to this but just go ahead and put your thinking caps on.

WHEN WAZ THE LAST TIME THE FRIGGIN' GUBMINT EVER MADE THINGS BETTER???? and did it on time under budget?

if you are sitting there going aaaaahhhhhh uuuuhhhhhhh aaaaaaahhhhhh aaaaahhhhhhh you are a friggin' genius cuz you're right aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh NEVER!!!!!
  • Healthcare under government control
Those that said "Give me liberty or give me death" are long gone.
  • I would have been willing to save a bundle for the tax payers by charging only $1,000 to guess what the job market would do in 09. I'm sure I could've guessed just as equally wrong.
  • How much longer?
I'm coming to the conclusion that there will not be an "economy" left for the next president. Heck, there may not be one left for the mid-term elections.
  • I've always wondered...
...how people who struggled so long and hard for freedom from being owned by an individual, to equality, only to voluntarily sell themselves back into slavery to their government.

Don't they know that being owned by the state is the only thing worse than being owned by an individual? Not always at first, but it always ends up that way.
  • What? You mean that...
...the projection of trillions in "savings" from Obamacare might not be reliable?

Geeeze, after the miscalculations about the cost of the Medicare Drug Benefit, you'd think they'd have this down by now.
  • have o believe...
The democrats obviously didn't go far enough in enacting their programs. If the evil Republican's hadn't blocked them we wouldn't be in this mess that Bush created. You have to give the President a chance, Bush/Cheney had years to wreck the country. As long as you feel good/guilty about your decisions then everything will work out. It's all the fault of right-wing talk radio we need to stop their negativity.

    .... sarcasm off

Reality has no place in the decisions of the democrats.
  • Guessed? From the brightest team ever?
    Guessed? Guessed?

Jeeze, aren't they actually supposed to do realistic studies and predictions therefrom?

WTF is up with "Guessed" Oh wait, it IS Biden.....

Explains a lot of our other pending changes..."Guesses" all.
  • Campaign Against The CBO?
Look for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to be downsized since they are more accurate then Joe's "guesses". The Democrats want to marginalize the offices ability to perform its job, since it is often projecting costs higher than the administration’s estimations (Joe’s guesses).
  • stimulus
Yeah, their estimates were off...if you believe the purpose of the "stimulus" was to help our economy rather than destroy it.I have heard some in congress are calling for the stimulus to be canceled and no more money borrowed and sent out.As for health care, why not take the example set by Safeway Co. and promote preventative care? Supposedly this would have saved $550 billion over the last 4 years if it had been implemented.Just a few intemperate thoughts.Thank you for what you do Neal.
  • Power
“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power.
Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power.
What pure power means you will understand presently.
We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing.
All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods,
but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives.
They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal.
We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.
Power is not a means; it is an end.
One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.
The object of persecution is persecution.
The object of torture is torture.
The object of power is power”.
    -George Orwell, 1984
  • Stimulus, Stupid Biden, Unemployment
At this point, I think the best offense might be a weak defense, ie, let the marxists just keep talking and signing bills, until (hopefully) enough voters realize that we HAVE to put some congressional shackles on President God in 2010. Finding some non-democrats with balls will be a chore, though, because the State Media is quick to label anyone who speaks out against His Godliness as a 'right wing extremist' or 'attack machine'.

Regardless....the 2010 elections might just be the most important since the war between the states.
  • "not aligned with reality."
this whole administration is not aligned with reality.
  • Everyone Guess Wrong
What an irony that those who supported our actions after 9/11 and believed in WMD reports, and then when it was oh so convenient to state that we were misled and there were no WMDs are now the same peacocks who state "everyone guessed wrong at the time the estimate was made" regarding unemployment and the stimulus. So, do we blame Bush for that, too??
