THE ROBBERIES WILL CONTINUE UNTIL ......

Seems there's a bit of a problem in the Georgia Tech area in Atlanta. There have been a string of armed robberies near the Tech campus in recent weeks. One Tech student was shot during a robbery in May. When will it stop? When some armed Tech students shoots one of these predatory bastards dead in his tracks. Ohhhh ... but it's probably illegal for a Tech student to carry a gun to the campus, so for now it's the robbers who will be armed. That ought to work out rather nicely.

What others are saying

  • Concealed Carry
I'll tell you right now I carry a pistol every day on campus. I walk the streets waiting for someone to make my day so I can use that line from Gran Torino. "You know how sometimes you meet somebody you probably shouldn't have ****ed with? That's me." Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
  • to: AM
    Good for you, my friend.
May I suggest you join GeorgiaCarry.org if you haven't done so already.
And let's see if we can get HB 615 passed in the next session, so we can get rid of the Public Gathering nonsense and all the "gun free zones".
What good is a license, if there are still a lot of boundaries that turn otherwise legal gun owners into instant law-breakers subject to arrest just for crossing an imaginary line into a "gun-free zone"?
  • The only proper outcome to armed robbery is a dead robber. Period. And to Gavin and Stan: If you're so confident in your belief system, then why don't both of you put signs in your front yards that read "This is a Gun Free Home". Also, have some shirts printed that read "I Am Unarmed". Wear those shirts all day, every day. Get back to us in about a year and let us know how that's been working for you.
  • Leftists and gun control....
Folks, the sad truth is that liberals KNOW that disarming the populace makes crime go up. They COUNT on it. It's one of the reasons to justify the nanny state. Facts are useless in this argument. They want more and more victims to justify more and more spending, regulation, control. If crime were to go away so would our need for law enforcement. It's obvious that an armed populace is the only way to insure safety and liberty. Hence that pesky little thing the libs are trying to get rid of. We like to call it a "constitution." You know, the one that protects rights like "the right to bear arms." Silly old thing, getting in the way of total control by the libs.
  • Carry Now, Apologize Later
I was there at Tech when the Rodney King riots spilled over to downtown Atlanta. It was then that I would risk expulsion, prosecution, and my CCL to carry when on campus in the evening or walking to and from my rental north of campus. Wasn't worth my life to obey nanny state rules that took away my ability to protect myself.
  • For once I agree with Stan G.
Any moron can pick up a firearm and blast away...but those of us who support gun control can hit our targets!
  • Stan as predicted:
"People who dont support gun control are morons"
    By Stan Gable @ 06/22/09 01:01:48 PM

No, Stan, people who support gun control are responsible for smart engineers getting robbed and killed.
  • I live on 10th/Howell Mill...
...been in this area for about a year. And while it is getting more and more developed every day, you better believe I (legally) carry a weapon. I don't trust anyone other than myself with my safety and the safety of my girlfriend. Especially not the pathetic Atlanta Police Department. And guess what?? I haven't gone on a mad rampage the way every f'in liberal would like to assume a gun owner would.

And to qualify myself, I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Was my orignal comment removed?
I'd like to know why my comment was posted long enough for people to react but later removed.

If those in charge want this to be a little club for conservative lemmings, well so be it. Is that the way it is? I know it can't be due to the insults since the insults directed @ me are still there.

Bye Lib - In what way did I contradict myself on self-defense? I realize that will be harder to answer since my comment was removed. Guns are good was my subject line. Where's the contradiction?
  • Re: Thank you Stan Gable @ 06/22/09 01:01:48 PM for PROVING MY POINT!!!
Many thanks for Stan for proving the point of my earlier posting.

Even though it was a largely incoherent diatribe, it did prove that Leftists are incapable of understanding the simplest of logical progressions, and yet they think of themselves more intelligent than the rest of us.
  • Gavin
Let's see.. so not only did you totally contradict yourself with the self-defense topic but you did, in the end, take the easy position in this blog as well...hmm looks like someone IS confused..

Also - you say it's totally acceptable for crime to be up because the economy is bad and the campus is located in a "rough neighboorhood"? This is okay with you, huh? I'd like to hear you say that after being robbed with a .45 pointed at your face and wearing fresh, pee-stained undee's.
  • Tech Crime
I was at GT from 1977 until 1982 and back then we had an old dorm on the OTHER side of North Avenue from the stadium (I know that today there are the "new" Olympic Dorms...but I digress.)

Techwood dorm and the old Techwood Housing project were right next door to each other.

Tech had the sense to not put girls in there but every single quarter there were robberies and people living down there wouldn't park their cars there and even MEN traveled in groups after 9 PM.

It was against the rules but a number of people had guns on campus and never once did a student shoot another student (unless the shotee was committing a crime already.)
  • Too Smart
Tech students are probably smart enough not to buy guns. They got into college so they know how to find the grocery store, so they dont need a gun for hunting. They obviously arent criminals. They are engineers, so in case of the hick fear of World War 7, they can build a shelter.

People who dont support gun control are morons
  • to: Brett
I went to Tech too. Stay away from 10th street as well...lol
  • Here's what I don't understand:
Leftists like to THINK that they're the smartest people around, but as Donald Rumsfeld once said: “They don't know, what they don't know” - meaning they are supremely arrogant in their supposed intelligence that they comprehend the fact that they are really SUPREMELY STUPID.

A good example is that they can't figure out the simple logic of deterrence.

The Criminals (and the government, yes I realize that's redundant in a lot of cases) prefer UNARMMED victims. They will pick a place where they KNOW they're intended victims Can't be armed instead of a place where they MIGHT be armed.

The bottom line is that Disarming the Law-abiding only makes crime worse, but leftist's can't get that simple logic through they're thick skulls, and yet they still think they're simply TOO smart for the rest of us.
  • Georgia Institute of Victimology
Not only is GA Tech a "gun free zone" by school regulations, it is a Felony in the State of Georgia to carry a gun (even with a valid Georgia Firearms License) at any school or educational institution, and this includes universities. Any college student that decides to carry protection faces not only the likely expulsion from the school, but also a decade or two in prison, plus thousands of dollars in fines and the permanent loss of 2A rights (convicted felons cannot even touch a gun as per federal law).
The thugs running around midtown ATL robbing people at gunpoint coud not care less about this, of course.
The people at GA State, UGA, and other universities in Georgia face the same situation.
Please support HB 615 to get rid of this nonsense. Gun bans do not work.
  • Huh?
I find it hard to believe that losing jobs has anything to do with leading a life of crime. You're either raised to be a decent human being or you're not. Any scumbag who points a gun at an innocent person deserves whatever bad mojo comes their way. Of course, quality hollow points deliver the fastest karma and a nice dirt nap for said scumbags.
  • re: Only The Outlaws Have Guns...
John Q. Citizen may have it better than a cop in some respects but he is arrested too often while defending his own property. So often you hear about some rotten punk being shot dead while trying to break into a house and the home owner gets arrested. If someone breaks into a house and the homeowner kills them, give the guy a medal and exepmt his property taxes for the burden we placed on him by asking him to do the job of law enforcement. And if he shot the guy in the back, double the reward since that one would have gotten away if not for the great save by the heroic homeowner.

But these people are arrested? Are you kidding me?
  • Gavin...My belief system
comes from my parents. You need to drop the liberal left crap and think for yourself.
  • Only The Outlaws Have Guns...
Someone mentioned it but why don't you ever hear of a biker bar or an NRA convention getting held up? Also, as was said, thugs don't fear police but you can bet they fear an armed citizen. Why? Because said armed citizen isn't bound by any code except for the laws on the books. Police have to run through, in their mind, a string of restrictions before pulling the trigger. For instance, I have to be cognizant of where the bullet my end up should I miss. John Q. Citizen doesn't. It's a known fact. The stricter the gun laws, the more prevalent the crime. NJ, where I live, has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and last year Rowan University was going through the same problem with thugs attacking students.
  • This is nothing new ...
I was at TECH from 98-03 ... yeah it took me a little longer than normal ... We had a bunch of robberies at fraternity houses during the'01 school year. A buddy of mine and I used to stay up late and watch the house and ended up chasing two would be robbers from the house with baseball bats at 2-3am in the morning. The campus police told us that they could do nothing unless they caught the robber in the process of committing a crime.
  • Re: Ed
Whether they are or not, I feel like it's a safer bet to put your money on the campus rednecks than the marching band or the math club.
  • Shootings
I went to tech, just make sure you stay off North Ave at night lol.
  • Gun free zones?
Those "gun free" zones just never seem to work out for the good guys, do they? Why won't the AJC (aka AUC - atlanta urinal constipation) articles ever mention that campuses in Georgia are "gun free zones"?
  • Tech Robberies
The perps have all the hallmarks of black thugs that have had tough lives, are really good kids that just got caught up in the wrong crowd.
Why don't thy just rob/shoot/kill themselves.
Since guns on campus are not permitted, what a good place to go if you do have a gun and want to rob somebody.
  • It won't be long before a few mistake armed locals for students.
Then the rest will find a safer way to get money.
  • The Fantastic Four
I'm waiting on Gayvin and his three buddies to chime in on this one.
  • everyone should be packing heat
I agree with Ed about not advertising and be careful...as long as you have a conceal carry permit, that firearm should be allowed with you at all times.
  • more guns less crime
Didn't John Lott already write a book, with the stats to back him up, called "More Guns Less Crime"? Also, didn't Mr. Lott point out that when firearms are taken out of the hands of law abiding citizens crime goes up? Moreover when it is made easier, (i.e. less government restrictions) for law abiding citizens to carry firearms crime goes down?

Of course don't take my word for it... Just look at the UK and Australia where private firearm ownership is banned. They had a spike in crime.

But then again, even if you don't agree with Neal's politics, leftist can not use logic to defend their positions.
  • Idiotic anti-gun statement
    from Stan in 3, 2, 1...
  • Tech Robberies
It's against the school rules, but if you don't advertise and are careful, who's to know? I carried a pistol the whole time I was there. $20 says all the KA's there now are the types on which Neal is writing his pussification book.
  • THE ROBBERIES WILL CONTINUE UNTIL ......
It seems the thugs in the Tech area didn't receive the memo that Tech is a "gun free" zone. Neal, you know it's always the same, mind-numbingly stupid response. The police are then dispatched to show "presence" for a few days. After that it's business as usual for the predators. Studies have shown conclusive evidence that the thugs in our society fear armed citizens FAR MORE than they fear the police. I'm not knocking the rank and file cops out there. I have a great deal of respect for the thankless job they do. They are just following orders from their politically correct, panty-waist superiors and Shirley Franklin. If cops are really honest they will tell you that about the best they can do is arrive at the scene after the crime has occurred to take notes and clean up. Bottom line - citizens are responsible for their own self defense. What a pity the government ties their hands behind their backs.
  • Armed GA Tech Students
Sadly, it is against the law and school rules for a GA Tech student to carry a gun. GCO has been all over this one.
  • robberies
Ever notice the thugs always prey on the people they know to be unarmed? You never hear about an NRA convention being robbed. Wonder why?
  • HB615
Even though the law makes an exception for those who live inside the "school safety zone," those students still cannot carry a firearm on campus - which also means they are unarmed when going TO and FROM campus.

We have a bill to fix this in the legislature right now. Please take a look at HB615.
  • Tech Robberies
What's a Tech student to do? Throw his pocket protector?

"Drop the gun or I'll slide rule you back to the stone age, mister!"

Q: What's the difference between a '57 Bel Air and a Tech cheerleader?

A: Not just any guy can get into a '57 Bel Air.
  • Ga Tech Robberies
Never a description of the perps. News outlets are afraid of issuing descriptions for because they may "offend" someone.
  • Robberies
$20 says the first person to do that will be a KA.
