THE PRICE TAG ON HEALTHCARE

The magic number for this healthcare bill seems to be $1 trillion. The Democrats are convinced that if they get the cost of healthcare below $1 trillion, that the government educated dumb-masses will suddenly believe it to be manageable.

Whatever.

So top Democrat senators say that they have found $400 billion in savings by reducing the amount of subsidies for the poor, poor pitiful poor to buy insurance. The other $200 billion in savings will come from "further adjusting the level of subsidies."

Are you buying this? Does this make sense to you? When have you ever know the government to cut subsidies? They fertilize these subsidies every day of their lives. They WANT them to grow. Subsidies lead to dependency, and dependency is the tonic on which big government thrives.

There has never been a government health care proposal that didn't end up costing many times more than the original estimates. Medicare is a good example. According to estimates at the time it was passed Medicare should be priced about one-sixth of what it is actually costing us today.

The game here is to get the law passed. Get the people under the government's thumb when it comes to health care. Then suddenly Washington won't be interested in how much it costs. They have what they want. YOU, by the short hairs.

What others are saying

  • So let's spend more?
Hey Frank, the solution to solving past fiscal blunders is spending more? I'm guessing you are either single or the significant other handles the money in your household. I have this great piece of land you might want to look at...
  • Paygo?
What happened to the 'Paygo' speech? Anybody? Bueller...Bueller...if I have to support anybody besides my own kids, shouldn't I have more to say about how, where, when, and why?
  • It sounds like hillarycare.
You can’t even pay out of pocket for a second opinion, and in fact, domestic fee for service is outlawed (like hillarycare), becoming a bribe in newspeak/newlaw. Under this plan, the federal government will control all domestic access to health care, and Americans have no appeal or recourse, but to travel out of the country to some place that hasn’t outlawed fee for service, if you can afford it.

How does back-alley heart transplant and pacemaker (home made, of course) installation sound to ya? Dialysis machines will sure get cheaper when they’re garage made. “Hey, is that a Fram or a Motorcraft filter?” “You’ll be a little drunk after this, I ran short on tubing and had to pull some off the still.”

I’m supposed to get all upset the NSA might listen in on some of my boring phone conversations, but not bat an eye at turning over near absolute control of my health care to hussein, nancy, and harry, or any crooked bureaucrat or accountant they appoint to kill me with neglect from 600 miles away?

“I’m no fool, no sir-ee! I wanna live to be a hundred and three…”
  • Frank
I'm confused, are you trying to pull a two wrongs making a right or what? What is your point?

Do you think we are sitting here taking up for Bush? Don't be lame. But he's gone, let's stay on task how about? Bush didn't even start it! Wilson did. Do you really think all the "social programs" since then have helped our economy? I hope not.

Unfortunately, they are ALL gone. So let's work with what we've got right now.

Not any previous administration has been given this much power. If we don't take it back, that power will be available for the NEXT Obama or Bush. Can you imagine what they will do with that?
  • To damifino
I am not a wacko. I am just informed. I have realized the ultimate goal of some VERY credible conspiracies. Conspiracy...that is an interesting term. Our government has brainwashed our citizens to immediately discredit a conspiracy. They have done so through propaganda and through conditioning of the populace through deception and misinformation. If you knew the truth as I do you would understand why the government keep it secret. At some level I understand their position, but the patriot in me knows the infomation belongs to the people. This is all I will say on this.
  • That old mortality thing
The terrible reality is that we are all going to die. But, if we have the latest robotic surgical techniques, the most modern MRIs, the most expensive designer drugs, etc., we might just live forever, hypothetically speaking. That is the root problem with runaway healthcare costs today. We are all scared to death of dying because we have lost our faith in the afterlife. National healthcare will be as expensive as the strength of our desire to live forever. There will be many non productive types that will benefit from nationalized healthcare but those folks are getting it free today anyway.
It's unfortunate, but nationalized healthcare will be a reality for America. Let's work towards allowing those that wish to opt out with medical savings accounts programs.
  • re:ivan you hit it
Ivan your right, the average person/sheep can't tell you the difference in million, billion and trillion dollars, those words have no meaning anymore.Just remember that every other person you meet is BELOW AVERAGE.(I use to think you were some wacko but you may be right on everything)
  • ...so who get's "Free" Healthcare for our $1 Trillion?
If I pay for me via a "private plan"...and you and I and the all other taxpayers are paying into a "public plan", isn't that double dipping? Who's getting FREE healthcare? Oh, yeah, that's right the "less fortunate" need their coverage too...not to mention the illegal aliens...the children...The LOOTERS

...hang on a second while I check the Constitution for that each according to their need part..

...I don't submit Oil Changes and Tire Rotation to my Car Insurance Agent. It's standard maintenance.

..why do we feel like we're owed "FREE" healthcare whether we have insurance or not?

Here's an idea. Any general doctor visit or procedure that is less than $100 is paid out of pocket. period. That will cut down on the weekly "free coffee, croissant and newspaper" crowd in the waiting rooms. (I wonder what percentage of insurance claims would fall into that bucket?) If you're diagnosed with something "real" that needs additional follow ups & multiple visit, it's waived for those visits based on your insurance plan.

Directive 10-289 is right around the corner folks...
  • Yeah know, you really have to feel sorry for copyleft and the rest of the Statists trolls that hang around here [Not really, but work with me here]
I mean They (the Demoncrap Statists) were on the brink – they were on the brink of attaining almost unlimited power.

They were going to be able to tell what you could eat, what you could drive, where you could live, whether you could defend yourself, even how Long you could live.

And now it's ALL SLIPPING AWAY!!

People are waking up to the hideous boondoggle it would be, and they don't like it. They know there's no free lunch and there's no such thing as “Free” healthcare.

    It's incredibly amusing to witness.

  • Previous administrations debts
    Joyce M/Blthye @8:51
Great question about future administrations undoing the previous administrations crap!
Question: How many future administrations will it take to undue all the "CRAP" foisted upon the American people by the Bush administration? We can start with the War on Terror debt (1 trillion and counting) that wasn't even in his budgets!
  • ABC Infomercial
    HAHAHAHAHA.

    http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/06/abcs-white-house-special-struggled-for-viewers.html

Does this mean there might be some light at the end of the tunnel? (Pray while knocking on wood and throwing salt over your shoulder).
  • "We have options that would enable us to write a $1 trillion bill fully paid for," Baucus said.
What we have here is "creative accounting" on paper. The cost is another expense that will ultimately add to the defect, (and keep on adding!)

Baucus makes it sound like good news, but it isn't.
  • 1,000,000,000,000
Why don't we just buy the 40 mil. individuals Ins for the next ten years. $2500 Year per individual goes a long way in the private sector, and doesn't mess it up for the rest of us.
  • Actually, W's Medicare expansion (part D) came in under budget
The prescription drug benefit added to Medicare by George W. Bush is under budget, from what I understand. Why? Because it uses free-market competition for providing the drugs.
  • 1,000,000,000,000
That number used to be a big number. Now that Communists are in office that number is no longer so big. The American people are now numb to all the "big" numbers. This entire situation is just desensitizing the American people. Once all of this is over we will all be used to our new fascist government and we will be more willing to accept what they cram down our throats. Our government is purely tyranical at this point. We must stop this.
  • The thing that irks me the most...
...is that PrezBO is claiming you'll have an option. I'd like for him to explain to me how private practices are supposed to compete with a national system backed by seized Taxpayer money.
  • Master BS Artists
These Dems really have one talent, and that is saying anything to fool the average mouthbreather out there.

    >>>>>So top Democrat senators say that they have found $400 billion in savings<<<

This sounds like my wife who goes to buy a pair of shoes, that are on sale but she doesn't need. She comes home after spending $100, and tells me "Good news, I saved us $30 with this purchase."
  • Price Tag
Having been in the financial side of healthcare for almost 30 years, understand that when they talk about the price tag, you have to mutiply it by a mutiple of at least 150% to 175% to get to the lower end of the range it will really cost.

My question will be what happens to Medicare and Medicaid? Will they be rolled up into the public health option or will there be another whole sludge pile of government?
  • And...
once it passes we will be stuck with it.

What future administration will be able to undo this crap? None.
