THE GARGOYLE GOES BERSERK

The Gargoyle in North Korea is apparently preparing to launch new missiles. Here we go .... again. What new stern language will the UN come up with this time to castigate Kim Jong Il?

Aren't you glad you aren't Barack Obama right now? Remember the last time this dangerous fool launched a missile? The very next day Obama announced that we were going to curtail work on a missile defense system. Now that's showing strength, isn't it? This menace test a missile that could carry a nuclear warhead, and our defender, our President, stands up and says "Oh, by the way, we're not going to spend all that money on missiles launched by midget menaces from North Korea."

In light of Obama's stance, it's rather odd that Defense Secretary Robert Gates says that the United States can shoot down any missile that is fired our way. With what? That program Obama is eliminating? Gee, that is comforting. How about China ... does it have the "high probability" of being able to defend itself?

This Kim Jong Il character is a loon, folks. He's a loon with nukes. This is not the type of guy you want with his finger on the trigger. He is training his son to take his place. I assume that the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

What others are saying

  • Norks
Where does America get the authority to have jurisdiction over N.Korea and its weapons?
  • I guess...
Some Americans, would expect America to do absolutely nothing if the Iranian army were sitting on the Mexican border with Iranian leaders telling the world America is a threat. I bet N.Korea sees how other oppresive dictators(Pakistan) are rewarded with cash if they have nukes and wants the same treatment from America. Hit the books guys, Americans (including Neal) are being duped by neo-con mysticism on this one.
  • @ Corbett
Corbett, you're absolutely right about "adapting to a changing situation". In fact, I've begun a process that, over time, will make me immune to nuclear fallout. In addition, I've developed a new sunblock with SPF 1,000,000 that will hit the market soon. Look for it at a Walmart near you.
  • Missile defense success
Critics of the missile defense program like tshirt-doctor (what exactly IS a tshirt-doctor anyway? Does he expertly handle an airbrush or what?) crack me up. "[T]he problem with the anti-missile defense is they've been working on it for 30 years and they have got only 50% success rate." That's like saying in 1939 that NASA was unsuccessful in getting us to the moon. It's a research and development project, genius! A more reasonable statement would be that since 2001, the Missile Defense Agency has had 37 successful hit-to-kill tests out of 47 attempts. www.mda.mil/mdalink/pdf/08news0090.pdf That's a 78.7% success rate for the government-educated. And, with the exception of 10 interceptors in Alaska, some Aegis destroyers scattered around the globe, and a few terminal area missiles in potential hotspots, the system is STILL in the R&D arena, not fully operational.

Back when St. Ronald Reagan first proposed his Strategic Defense Initiative, all you technical whiz kids said the program was technically impossible. Now, we're shooting a bullet with a bullet with a 79% success rate. Sort-of-a-god Obama didn't tell his potential voters that during the campaign, did he?
  • re;jake,corbett ,tshirt dr.gavin,& forrest
Jake, your logic is sound but what makes you think Kim jong is any thing but a delusional, paranoid wacko. corbett & t shirt dr. are right.the US has footed the defense bill for the UN and the world long enough. Maybe we should give S.korea and Japan nukes(if you think Japan doesn't already have them) and let them fend for themselves.Ironicly Japan might be more responsible with them because of first hand experence. gavin: the UN resolutions stopped Bush 41 from finishing the job.It seems the US is the ONLY country that somewhat respects the UN(though I don't know why!useless as they are)so quit blaming bush for every thing. Forest, you paint a grim picture but I don't think China would worry about a democratic country on its border, they are growing more westernized all the time and N. korea is an unstable pain in the ass for them that they would gladly like to be rid of.(china sends train loads of food aid to N.korea just to keep their people from imigrating to china.Kim Jong doesn't even give the trains back to china.)China would use its UN position to set themselves up as a diplomatic mediator between all parties. I believe Russa would just sit back, defend it borders and watch cause they would gain nothing by direct military action and a lot to gain from a stable korea and at no cost to them.Sorry all this is so late but work comes first.
  • Saddam: Clinton or Bush;s fault
    Neither.

Bush did not finish him off because he promised that the Gulf War was about liberating Kuwait, not deposing Saddam. He promised the Arab allies that was the case, which is how he was able to build such a strong coalition. Being a man of his word, he kept his promise and did not invade Baghdad.

Clinton - although he did not enforce the no fly zones and ignored the OPTION the UN gave of deposing Saddam, he did not support him =, either.
  • Obama N Korea
Here we go again. Kim Jong Il nut case, will keep launching missles and threatening the World. The UN will declare him to be a menace and danger but do nothing about him. Obama calls him crazy and mad and dangerous but does nothing about him. Now its election 2012 and Obama is defeated by a Republican. The Republican is tired of hearing Kim Jong run his mouth so he takes him out and attacks N Korea. The Democrats declare Republicans War Mongers and blame the GOP President for the war with Korea. The World hates America because of the GOP so now we elect another Communist pacifist in 2016. History keeps repeating itself.
  • Threats
" Call me when he's an actual THREAT."

    THAT is too LATE!
  • Edwards/Kerry
I am reminded that one of those brilliant minds during the debates said he wanted to nuke N. Korea.....
  • @Gayvin
    >>>>>Your weak attempt to hold Clinton responsible for not finishing off Saddam isn't fooling anyone. It was Bush 41 who didn't finish off Saddam and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens who rose up to overthrow the tyrant were slaughtered when we bailed out.<<<<

Based on a read of your last few posts, it is quite clear you got your information from Michael Moore Fahrenheit 9/11 movies. What's your next big argument, genius? that Bush choked on a pretzel?

Your quote above is hilarious. So, are you saying that if Bush 41 said let's go topple Saddam and finish the job, that all the libs/Dems would have been gung ho??? You make it sound like Bush 41 had to fight tooth and nail against those hawkish libs to get his way and not finish off Saddam. I don't recall any libs criticizing Bush 41 on not finishing the job back then.

Likewise, I love how over the last few years, particularly between 2004-2007 when the anti-war libs and Dems worked every single day to undermine the war effort, libs used the talking point of "Iraq wasn't a threat. No WMDs there. We need to worry about N. Korea and Iran.". OK, I agree that NK and Iran are threats.. So, do you libs propose attacking N Korea and Iran now? I'm confused...
  • @ webwench
That picture is classic! Thanks for clearing up the matter, didn't occur to me that there may be copyrights or the like in play. Got nothin' but love for ya!
  • LOL @ webwench
Yes, we forget, she DOES read this garbage we spew!
  • @Jacob
    >>>>"Clinton kept putting off the inevitable"

Are you old enough to remember Operation Desert Fox?<<<<<<

You mean the the Operation Desert Fox where Clinton decided to lob a few missiles over a three-day period while the House was doing the impeachment hearings?? Yeah, I remember that Desert Fox which did nothing other than produce a nice distraction for Clinton's impeachment.

While we are going down memory lane, I also recall Clinton lobbing a few missiles in some aspirin factories in Afghanistan to show how wink wink he was so "tough" at going after Osama Bin Laden. This also happened to coincide with precisely the time Monica's blue dress was revealed. Again, it accomplished nothing other than a distraction.

Let's review the scoreboard: Clinton 8 years of kicking the can and turning a blind eye to terrorism and dictators. However, he spent a whopping 3 days lobbing a few missiles at aspirin factories to: (1) disctract from his impeachment, and (2) pretend he is serious in fighting the evil regimes. All a charade a child can see through; unfortunately, the trick worked on you.

  • @ forrest re: pic
it's not a conspiracy in this case. we're just limited to public domain images. and i got tired of the ubiquitous map of north korea. sure, he's old and withered now, but there are so many other fun pics to choose from. too bad this site is so high profile. personal fav: http://www.therazor.org/oldroot/Winter03/photos/kim-jong-mickey.JPG
  • @ Matt Cole - you nail'd it
Matt, you're right on the money. If North Korea goes active nuclear, their likely first strike will be South Korea. In defense of South Korea, the United States would become engaged, then Japan would repeal Article 9 (for those who do not know, it is the line in the Japanese Constitution that strictly prohibits them from maintaining an Army, Air Force, or Navy, and from taking any aggressive military action). Once Article 9 has been repealed, China will become quite nervous at having all of these Democratic nations so close to their territory, attacking North Korea, which is a bordering state. Knowing that if North Korea fell, that would put China bordering yet another Democratic nation, and that is something they are probably not all that keen to see happen. So, China will enter the fray… then Russia will probably join in the fighting but with China being out there, probably on the side of the North Koreans, we may see Russia take a stance with China to prevent further penetration of staunch US allies into the Asian continent.

World War III will begin, and we’ll end up seeing a draft and millions of dead, many of them Americans.

When the dust settles, we’ll see America bankrupt but with a new friend on the Korean Peninsula (yay! Totally worth it!), Russia in an economic depression, but sitting on a wealth of natural resources (we’ll be crawling to them for oil after the Sauds dry up or cut us off) and China will be the new world center of economic viability with their near limitless work force and wise economic policy (well, what can I say… they know how to save, invest, and not spend more than they take in… unlike our leaders).

This is all going to end very badly for the U.S.
  • @ butt neckid
    Mr. Neckid,
My prescription has not changed lol. I have just noticed that everywhere I look, Fox, MSNBC, Limbaugh, even Hannity and Boortz, ...everyone uses these dolled up pictures of li'l Kim from when he graduated high school. These pictures are all basically North Korean propaganda in one form or another, and serve the purpose of making him look like a healthy, vibrant and powerful leader. I was merely pointing my discontent toward an actual media outlet, this website, in an effort to perhaps instill a little more awareness on the issue. Surely you don't disagree with my request to show him as the old shaking, drooling, saggy, balding decrepit old man that he is, right?

Personally, I find it more terrifying to see a man in Jong Il’s present condition with his finger hovering over the nuclear button… ESPECIALLY since his replacement is a 26 year old kid that is supposedly just as crazy as he is. Imagine, a KID (and I’m 29, still too young to responsibly handle nukes) in charge of a rogue nuclear nation. This becomes more of an issue if the media will portray Kim Jong Il as being in the poor health that he is currently in… Seriously, he’s in worse shape than McCain was in the last election.

Remember, these guys are certifiably insane… their president is a dead guy. Seriously, look it up… The office of the President of North Korea has forever been given to Jong Il’s father, who is dead, but is still considered to be their ‘Eternal Leader.’ What is scarier than a country with a still-active, dead president?
I’ll tell ya… A country with a dead president, and 7 million soldiers in reserve.

Sounds like it’s about time to break out the daisy cutters and MOABs!
  • dorky substitute??????????

What's that stand for, Dumb and Dumber? You just agreed with me, moron. If you think Congress was solely responsible for us not finishing the job, you're beyond help.

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING SADDER.
  • Gavin Volaire
Hey, before you blame Bush 41 for stopping short, you might want to blame congress, they pulled the funding.

    Nice Try!

Bush wanted to finish the job!

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • @ Copyleft
You are missing the point. The real threat posed by NK is NOT missiles hitting America. The real threat is that Japan will respond by repealing Article 9 of their Constitution. China, and other regional countries that have been invaded by Japan in WW2, will not be pleased with this. An arms race could be set off in the region. THAT is the real threat.

Japan will not tolerate an aggressive NK. China will not tolerate a more militaristic China. We cannot tolerate a regional arms race.

What is it going to take for us to go on the offensive with this guy!? He's a total nut job with an itchy trigger finger... The only "western" thing the guy likes is James Bond movies, and he probably has a bunch of female sex slaves to prove it. Anyway, I wish W was still around as I don't think he would need this much of an excuse to kick some North Korean ass right now....

Forrest a few days ago your thinking and statements were on the money. has your prescription been changed?

I know you are old enough to know that the "media" isn't any smarter than our prezidunce.

I still like your thought process....
  • Corbett right
    this goes for Europe too.

the eurpean union has something like the 2th largest economy in the world. They managed to build it because the US has picked up the tab for their defense for the last 50 years. For half a century, American industry and the American taxpayers have been taxed to death so that eurpeans could get a free ride.
  • We dish it out. . .
. . .then it get used against us.

For years the United States has helped arm dictators -- to keep them out of the communist bloc, to keep the oil flowing, to keep the arms makers happy. We have often found reason to regret it.

We armed the Shah of Iran before the militants in the streets overthrew him. We armed Suharto in Indonesia. He used American arms to invade East Timor and repress its people. We armed the generals and colonels throughout Central America. They ruled through death squads and terror even when civilian presi-dents were elected.

We armed the generals who ruled Pakistan, in violation of US law that sought to block aid to countries developing their own nuclear weapons. According to journalist Seymour Hersh in The New Yorker, Pakistan and India almost used nuclear weapons against each other in May 1990.

We armed Marcos in the Philippines and Noriega in Panama. But the most flagrant case was the US Government's support, legal and illegal, for Saddam Hussein's military build-up.
  • North Korea
Rethink this people. First, North Korean technology is limited in the missile area. (Let's not count the older versions of the Soviet prepared missiles like the Silkworm coastal defense missile he likes to shoot out into the ocean every once and awhile). It takes the NKA days to prepare and fire any effective missile by the time they could load an effective payload, South Korea or China would know and react. Second, the actual range for firing an effective nuke because of the payload weight would be limited to areas in nearby Asia. Third, a real nuclear war against South Korea or Japan would upset the balance of power in Asia by bringing in more US, Japanese, NATO, UN, and even Russian troops into a ground war on the Korean peninsula changing the balance of power in Asia – something China does not want. Forth, the impact of the war would hurt China’s trade and the Hong Kong market (radioactive fallout into coastal China) – something China does not want. Fifth, Even “the Gargoyle” knows he would not survive to see the dawn the day after he made such an attempt and he is doing all this saber rattling for self-preservation.
  • oh what the hell...................
let's all quit pussy footin' around and just have us a lil' ol' world war. wipe out human kind.

for you belivers get god to NOT give people free will. then things may not get to this point again.

an old and sick man is in charge of new-kue-lar weapons. what does he have to lose?

does anyone 'member the lil'ol phrase "where there is a will there is a way."

either the lil' nutbag from korea or some scumbag from koranland is gunna get their way........soon.
  • Reality Check Time
I'm no fan of Obama, but it's time to do a reality check.

We're talking about technology that has been around for over 60 years. Did we really think that we could keep it out of the hands of people like North Korea forever? It was bound to happen.

Now we have two choices, we can rant and rave like Boortz or we can adapt to the changing situation. Personally, I think we'd be better off adapting. And the sooner we adapt the better.

South Korea has something like the 4th largest economy in the world. They managed to build it because the US has picked up the tab for their defense for the last 50 years. For half a century, American industry and the American taxpayers have been taxed to death so that South Koreans could get a free ride. Enough is enough. They should be ready to handle North Korea without us.

It's time to pull out of Korea & bring our troops home. Let the Koreans pick up the tab for their own defense & give the American taxpayers a break.
  • Tom Utley
look can looks up it on the WEB. they've got this called google. would don't you look up "anti-missile defense failure" or something like that. you can look for failures by date---1994,1996 etc. that's not too hard for you, isn't it? it may take some time
  • @By Club-a-Liberal @ 06/10/09 09:10:28
Your weak attempt to hold Clinton responsible for not finishing off Saddam isn't fooling anyone. It was Bush 41 who didn't finish off Saddam and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens who rose up to overthrow the tyrant were slaughtered when we bailed out. Yet in your mind, this is Clinton's fault?
  • Official Statement From President Obama- June 14, 2009
My fellow Americans, after another launch of a nuclear capable missle from North Korea, I've decided the pertinant thing to do is to pull American personal out of the region for their safety. We will no longer monitor their military effort, so that they don't feel threatened by us and the need to procure these systems. We will recall the navy from the region. It is too great a risk to US military members to remain in the area. We also urge the United Nations to draft another resolution to reel in this dictator.
  • Where does that logic come from?
the day after North Korea tests a missile launch, Obama says that we won't waste time and money one an ineffective missile defense strategy. What's the problem there?

Would you complain if the day after North Korea launched a missile, Obama said that he would no longer support a plan to use quadrillions of newly-printed dollars to construct a giant paper-mache geodesic dome covering the whole of the United States as a missile defense shield?
Or do you think Obama should support that plan too, since it would cost less and be more effective against missiles from North Korea than the currently-proposed scheme?
  • @ Webwench, Neal, whoever posted Kim's picture
Will you please consider removing the youthful, vibrant picture of li'l Kim and replace it with one reflective of how he looks now? Here's an example:

    http://www.doobybrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/kim-jong-il-is-old.jpg

I've noticed the Media in virtually all forms has just used the 15 year old stock photos of Kim, back before the stroke and before he started to lose all his hair and look like the Korean Crypt Keeper. Let’s keep it real, and not continue to propagate the idea that the Dear Leader is a youthful eternal source of inspiration for all. This is akin to showing Hitler only in photographs where he is playing games with children.

    Thank you
  • Head in Sand
Copyleft is the type of person that thinks if he just covers his eyes it will go away. He keeps the phrase "ignorance is bliss" a little too close to heart. Typical liberal.
  • America's enemies
No, Copy, it's unfortunate for us that they're right. But let's suppose they are wrong, as you say. In staying the course of being wrong, is it not possible they will eventually take some action that might be regarded as openly hostile or imminently threatening - even to the Euro-weenies and the bleeders, and cause an escalation? God forbid that it would be nuclear. So now, instead of the US having put forth a strong no-nonsense defensive posture all along - when mitigation was job one - we end up with a big mess that will take even more American lives and Monopoly money to clean up - not to mention by the poor sap who becomes (or is) POTUS when it all goes down. I'm just sayin, KimKim has had this stuff for more than 6 months - he's just been waiting for Mom and Dad to go out of town for the weekend so he could throw a big party. The babysitter named obama is nothing but a joke to him. (actually, obama is more like one of those dorky substitute teachers we used to get from time to time)
  • Agree with Jake
No, I'm not Jake. But I have a hard time believing North Korea can launch something that would come close to our western border, and I strongly doubt China would put up with this. Besides, China is a permanent member of the UN Security council. They haven't even batted an eyelash.

  • The only thing dumber than letting lil' kim develop nukes...
...is letting the mad mullahs develop them. Like letting hitler remilitarize the Rhineland, we could stop it, and we'll be sorry we didn't.

Nuke tech will be the PRK's #1 cash export, if it isn't already, and most of their customers are people who hate our guts. Missile defense (ABM and ACM)is critical for a number of good reasons, but when the nukes start popping, the delivery method for the first ones will be truck or short range missile by a stateless entity(terrorists).

Much as I despise hussein and the dp, if they go after the mad mullahs they'll have my full support for it. I can love peace and hate war all I want, but words won't change the minds or actions of the mad mullahs.
  • War...equals draft
I don't see how it would be possible to attack this idiot without instituting a draft.
KJI knows that we can't conquer NK with 30,000 troops. Unfortunately, the decision to fight Iraq has left NK and Iran the freedom to pursue their nukes.
The only way to get enough troops into Korea would be through the draft. While I agree that it would be better to take KJI out now, it really is not feasible.
  • Tom Utley
the problem with the anti-missile defense is they've been working on it for 30 years and they have got only 50% success rate. i don't know how many billions of $$$ wasted on this.
if we wanted to we could send an air force jet to bomb the missile sites and save us taxpayers a load of $$$.
but that's not in the answers to the questions. they want us to keep sending our tax $$$$, that way don't don't need to get a real job
  • North Korea, a threat? Nah
It was George W. Bush who approved removing North Korea from the terrorist nation list late last year. So, when Seattle becomes rubble, it will naturally be, once again, Bush's fault.

Oh and yes they were working on the missiles to go along with it! Gotta have those accessories ya know!
  • Look to China
Look this is a power play and another rattling of the saber. Things in North Korea are tight and he has to play the "Great Protector" for his people in order to stay in power. If he really gets too far out of control, the Chinese will eliminate him in the dead of the night and North Korea will awaken to a new dictator. Trust me it is not to China’s advantage to allow this loon to upset the real balance of power in Asia.
  • Now is the time.
Attacking now is better than attacking later. I'm willing to bet NK still can't properly deliver a nuclear payload; however these launches are practice so they can get it right. Now is the time to attack before these nuts can release Armageddon.

Can anyone point to an occasion where the NK leadership sat down to talks, agreed to terms, and then held up their end of the deal? When can we say diplomacy failed?
  • Peace
I don't understand why Dumbocrats are so anti-missile defense. Don't they realize we could ensure nuclear peace worldwide with a good missile defense system? Once we perfect it at home we can sell it to everybody else and nobody will ever be subject to attack from a nuclear ballistic missile... sounds like a win-win for anybody that has a brain.

  • Kick the Can
OBozo and the UN are really stepping up the response to this latest act by Lil’ Kim, I heard they are going to take away Kim's Sony Playstation Madden ’09 game for a week.

This is the same kick-the- can policy that happened with Iraq under Clinton. After untold number of broken UN Resolutions, Clinton kept putting off the inevitable – dealing and finishing off Saddam. So, then Bush comes in and finishes off Saddam and Bush is demonized. Now, we have Kim literally wiping his nose with the UN and Obama. My guess this will continue with no significant response for years and Bozo will kick-the-can until he is out of the WH. Then, the next president will be left to deal with this mess, which by then will be much more serious and dangerous, and will have to act and the anti-war peace at all cost nuts will be screaming.
  • North Korea ( so called leader )

Zell Miller said it best in 2004 at the RNC- SPITBALLS!!!!

Sleep well tonight. Contrary to Hillary's statement this weekend, the 3AM call is going unaswered.
  • They've broken the rules...
Well, that's what the president said.

Hey President Obama, look in the mirror. You're breaking the rules too. Like the rule of law. Chrysler bankruptcy. Secured creditors. Favorable treatment to dealerships friendly to the current administration. And the list goes on and on...
  • Change we can believe in
Obama is weak in the eyes of the rest of the world. However, as Neal and the website "How Obama Got elected", we can thank all those myrmidoms for putting Obama in. (Isn't it funny that a previous generation did the same thing with Jimmy Carter? Isn't it also funny that we are having to learn the hard lesson a second time?) Unfortunately, Americans don't study history as they should or Obama would have never been elected. If they had studied history and were well informed, the Libertarian candidate would have won.
  • stop!
stop! or i shall say "stop!" again!
  • bats in his belfry
This guy is literally begging for a confrontation. My question is why?
It's as if he has a big secret and he's just dying to reveal it.
  • Yes
This is one time when I feel sorry for Obama, he couldn't have made this situation any worse but he'll not be able to make it any better. This NK nutjob could probably be diagnosed with a mental disorder. I'm not sure if even China could reign him in. Hopefully they will try. He WANTS to use a nuke so bad he can taste it. We probably will have a nuclear incident sometime this year. jmo
