SKIRTING THE LOBBYISTS

Do you remember during the presidential campaign, Barack Obama continuously promised that he would "not take a dime" from lobbyists or political action committees? Well it seems as though that is easier said than done. See if this is what you envisioned when Obama made that promise.

Last night, Obama made a speech at a Democratic fundraising reception. In order to uphold his end of the bargain, there were no lobbyists allowed at his speech. But then we wake up this morning, and at the same exact hotel where PrezBO gave his speech we had registered lobbyists being invited to attend a Democrat issues conference and pay $5,000 if they wanted to maintain good standing with the House and Senate re-election committees.

So what's happening here? Democrats will still gladly take lobbyist money for the House and Senate re-election committees, as long as Obama isn't there to witness it. Then it doesn't count. Do you get it now?

What others are saying

  • Skirting the lobbyists?
Seems to me that McCain was accused of lobbying a skirtist.
  • Speaking of Lobbyists
Am I the only one that finds it a bit odd that The Federal Reserve just sent a high paid lobbyist to Washington last week to begin lobbying against the passage of HR1207 "The Federal Reserve Transparency Act"?? Why would they be against a bill that requires them to be audited?? Hmmmmmm
  • paganposts
    that was not my intention.
i like your following the constitution as it was written. i'm all for that.

why don't we call each other geniuses and leave it at that. :O)

To me it sounds like you are trying to justify President Obama's lying about taking money from lobbyists by saying all politicians lie and if you don't understand that, you are dumb.

Now, I agree that if you don’t understand politicians lie, you are naïve, but that doesn’t justify the lying.

On subject though, I find it amusing that everyone, on all sides of the political spectrum, complain about lobbyist. Off course, they complain about the OTHER guy’s lobbyists, and seek ways to weaken them, while strengthening their own. Thus, we never actually get any meaningful reform, because if you strengthen lobbyist powers, you strengthen them all, whether that was your intent or not.

The REAL answer to the lobbyist problems is, as usual, to follow the constitution as it was written. If we would decentralize our day to day governance back to the states and the local governments, and only allow the federal government to deal with what the constitution charges it to deal with, lobbyists would not be the problem they are today, because they would not be able to go to one place, the Federal Government, to get favorable laws passed.
  • How do you know when a politician is lying?
Lip movement and increase in sound pressure level.

The above is referred to as a very old joke - butt ... it snot funny ... s'true

i didn't mean that you were dumb. on the other hand, maybe you are dumb. is you hand raised?
  • @tshirt-doctor
I love the "but everyone else is doing it" defense, it really shows how smart you are and completely justifies your position.
  • Taking lobbyists' money without taking their money. . .
This guy is the master of "doublethink". He's taken elevated it to "double-do". Vociferously denouncing the acceptance of money from lobbyists, while at the same time taking their money and justifying the acceptance of it. He's brilliant! Change we can believe in!
  • Lobbyists in the Lobby
Seems Obama views lobbyists as people he wants for their money..just doesn't want to take them to dinner.

It is easy for a guy like Obama to have it both ways. His voters aren't smart enough to know they are being hookwinked and the news media won't point it out.
  • raise your hands
all of you who thought any politician would keep his promises, please raise your hands. now everybody else, laugh at them, because they're dumb.
