SANFORD AND THE ARGENTINEAN FLATBELLY

At least ...... I'm assuming she's a flatbelly until we get picture proof. Anyway, what a wild story. First the Governor of South Carolina goes "missing." Then there is a period of days where he is staff "thinks" he is hiking in the Appalachian Mountains. Then he shows up yesterday and admits that he has been "clearing his head" in Argentina ...... with his Argentinean lover.

THIS TWEET FROM A FOLLOWER

"You should add "hiking the Appalachian Trail" as a new boortztionary euphemism." @DanMarrero

Done! Great idea!

You can follow me on Twitter ... user name is Talkmaster.

Alright, should we give the guy a pass? As one of my Twitter followers (14,000+ strong) pointed out (and I love this): If Mark Sanford had cheated on his taxes instead of his wife, he would have been a cabinet member by now.

Naturally the media jumped on this story. But Republicans in particular jumped on it, calling Sanford a "bastard" or "scumbag" or any name that would impart their own moral supremacy onto the situation. Give it up, folks. Men are pigs, all men, no exceptions. Not that that is an excuse, but this guy isn't doing anything to his girlfriend that the average politician hasn't done to the average taxpayer. Besides ... don't we have a wonderful history of this sort of stuff? John F. Kennedy comes to mind. Then there's Bill Clinton. The Democrats, you will remember, were telling us that this Clinton thing didn't matter ... it was his private life after all.

I'll tell you what really bothered me. Father's Day. It's Father's Day and this character is nowhere to be found. He has four sons wondering where their daddy is. How sad. Meanwhile .. another step backward for the Republicans. Look ... the Republicans love to parade through town on their moral high horses. When they fall off it's naturally going to make more noise.

Thud.

What others are saying

  • Threats now, Joyce?
You love calling me a hypocrite yet never offer a bit of evidence to support it. So you back off, BUDDY. Or I'll be the one reporting abuse.

You're such a bully. You think threatening will do what? Scare me?

The "we" is everyone who reads this board that thinks there's more to discussing politics than winning an argument. You make stuff up, tell a bunch of lies and act like I'm in the wrong for calling you out. Hey, SISTER, if you can't take it, don't dish it out. If you're gonna make stuff up, expect to get called out on it. Don't threaten me just because I'm not falling for your baloney.
  • not posted
I guess the response I had did not get posted but basically it was: I do not answer to you, do not particularly care if YOU think I am lying and who are "we", I do not think you speak for anyone here except your buddy Copy. Certainly not your sister. There are times when YOU can be the biggest hypocrit on this board so back off!

Drop it here, drop it now. Next will be an abuse report.
  • We're still waiting, Joycie....
I notice you didn't dispute my claim that you are lying, Joyce. Kudos for that. You know you are in a hole you cannot dig yourself out of so you lob a few pot shots and hope to move on. Wise call, sister.
  • Moose Call
Are you bragging or complaining? Is this something "man"kind should be aspiring to or trying to improve upon?

Anybody going into a very public position such as politics had better check their pants at the door with a lock on it!

Come on guys, are you going to let your other head rule you forever? It doesn't make you less of a man, really it doesn't! We are actually turned on by that we CAN'T have!
  • What a moron.
This is worse than what Clinton did. Sanford ran away with ridiculous excuses, while important things were going on. Plus, while he was in Congress he voted to impeach Clinton. Not only did it distract greatly from his duty, it was also hypocritical.

Now, I still don't think he should be forced out of office, or face any official penalty, for the affair because that's a personal issue (even though it is actually illegal in South Carolina). But running away from office for a week and lying about it like a fool is not a personal issue. Beyond that, he just can't be considered stable after pulling such a ridiculous stunt.

What do you think happens to the average South Carolina citizen if they don't show up for work for a week while they're running away on an affair, and lie ridiculously about their whereabouts?
  • Sanford
Back ground music for when talking about Sanford? "The Girl From Ipinema" of course. Tall and tan, young and lovely.
  • Sanford
Ralph, don't fool yourself, your lying. When men see an attractive woman - men don't say "I bet she has a great personality" Men are hard wired. Ready go for it at the drop of a hat! And you are too. If you have not cheated on your wife for 37 years of marriage, good for you and don't cheat or it will cost you half of everything you own. Why do you think the divorce rate is so high? Men just can't stay with one woman. Give Sanford a break and get on with it.
  • @Copyleft moron
    >>>>"Clinton was different--it wasn't about the sex, it was about the lies!"

Uh-huh. And with Sanford, it's not about the affair.. it's about the blatant, repeated hypocrisy. <<<<<<

Last time I checked, telling lies to a grand jury is a crime. On the other hand, being a hypocrite is not. If it were, every liberal would be locked up in Gitmo.
  • Boortztionary Entry
Apparently, hiking the trail has occured to others because of the similarity to the British express "discussing Ugandan relations"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Cake%27s_School#Euphemistic_expressions
  • Alabamastan
I know you aren't saying ALL but some here ARE.

Just like Gavin accusing me of lying. Even though HE is the one twisting things around. And then look at Copy's nonsense.

Yep, there are some who will use this as a "see the conservatives are just as rotten as the liberals" as if two rights make a wrong, but that is what they are all about after all!

I don't answer to your beck and call Gavin so you can wait on yourself, what is this "we" crap?

And despite what some would think, this is not the only board discussing this today. Look around, left is trying to use this BIG TIME!
  • Hiking
I didnt know the Appalachian Trail was in Argentinea
  • Democrats Are Never Accused of Hypocricy
The main reason people freak out more over Republican peccadillo’s is because nobody expects any better from Democrats. Having said that, remember that the Bible says, "Let the person with no sin cast the first stone."
  • Thank you Mark Sanford!
Mark Sanford made a mistake and I feel bad for his family. But I have to say, his story trumped ABC's Obama-merical on Healthcare reform! It is THE SILVER LINING!
  • Sanford & Son(s)
"Sanford was visiting with his wife and four sons at their beach home on Sullivans Island today, his staff said."

Shouldn't he be at work? What are they paying him for? He just had a week off for a drunken orgy.
  • how you doin'??????????
    GDM

I see J.R.C. is trying to help you get over this silliness but may be causing you mo' truble.

watch out if he gits yore keys you can kiss yo' kar goo bye. he'll sell it to sum osamabama voter fo' a 6 pack
  • re: Further Stupidity
No Joyce, you're lying. You can't argue against what is said so you twist the truth just enough until you can then make a case against the thing that was never said in the first place. Seems to be your go-to move. And now you hope someone will engage you in this lunacy. Nobody in here said what you claim, Joyce. While you are so busy handing out assignments, you go reread the posts and find the one that says Republicans are not conservative because of this. Date and time please. We're waiting....
  • Democrats, Republicans...
...I'm just waiting on the day when neither of these rapidly decaying "parties" has their precious majority. With the way the GOP and the Democratic Socialists are unravelling in recent years can it be much longer before we have maybe a Libertarian or (gasp, swoon) even a Green party majority in congress? Boortz for President anyone?
  • To the memory impaired
"Clinton was different--it wasn't about the sex, it was about the lies!"

Uh-huh. And with Sanford, it's not about the affair.. it's about the blatant, repeated hypocrisy.

This is what moral preaching instead of governing gets you, GOP. Enjoy!
  • Joyce
We aren't saying that ALL Repubs are cheaters. We're just saying that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Don't hold yourself up as the stalwart standard-bearer of your party's traditional family values if you have trouble telling right from wrong and you can't keep your pants up.
  • Further Stupidity
Gavin maybe you better reread all posts, I've seen it said in various ways several times!
  • re: Stupidity
"It's stupid to say Republicans can no longer claim to be conservative because of this one really bad error of judgement from ONE individual."

True. If anyone had said that, they would indeed be stupid.
  • Stanley
Why do lefties always forget the LYING TO GRAND JURY part of Clinton?

    stupid
  • RALPH

  • Watch out
Be careful! Republicans saw someone having a form of sex, watch out for the impeachment proceedings to begin.

Wait they didnt do it for Mark Foley or Larry Craig? Did they?

Well wait, this guy didnt at least support impeachment for Clinton because of Moral reasons? uh oh
  • Fathers day
Sanford disappeared on Father's day and Obama spent the day playing golf and not with his kids. Sanford was having an affair I guess Obama was willing to play a day of bad golf to avoid his kids.
  • wake up.............................
t shirt wake up and N-Joy all of the fun, this has got to make you smile. all the fuss over a lil' bit of nookie.

isn't that what anarchy is all about? no rules?

enjoy the rest of your day. the key to success is......grin like a moron, people will leave you alone....
  • wanna go on airfo'ce 1 princess............
check the picture of osamabama nibbling princess nancys ear........are they planning a trip to the apple-lation tail? it's on drudge
  • Bad Decision Maker
Sure would have been smarter for him to just import the senorita to SC rather than go way down south himself. Charleston has all kinds of nice hotels right on the water and the gov's car wouldn't be so noticeable in another city in his home state.
Or he could have made a big deal about going to Argentina on a "fact finding" mission, hands across the water, or under the table, and all that.
Leave the clandestine stuff to Clinton and his crew, they are much better at it.
And no, I'm not condoning anything he did. If he'd do that to his wife and family, just what would he do to the electorate?
  • Stupidity
It's stupid to say Republicans can no longer claim to be conservative because of this one really bad error of judgement from ONE individual. Gotta be really grasping for straws there.

I doubt very seriously Sanford would have run for any higher office, knowing the scrutiny he would have come under.

Which is our loss, because he certainly had more brains than most in Washington. Hopefully he'll be able to continue to contribute.

I would still vote for him, maybe, but it does show bad judgment which you don't want in a politician.
  • All men are pigs?
All men are pigs? I vehemently disagree! I've been married ONE time to the same wonderful woman. Come this December we will have been happily married for 37 years. Not once--NOT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY TIME--have I cheated on her or even allowed my mind or my body to get even close to doing so. Mr. Boortz, you do a great disservice to other males who can say the same as I've just now said and I'm sure there are many of them. The sad thing is that we are probably in the minority but, rest assured, we do exist!
  • @By Rockhound @ 06/25/09 10:52:35 AM
Did you just call out "the left" for an imagined expectation you have that they will make generalities about conservatives and also about Republicans? But it's "the left" who are the hypocrites? Your logic reminds me of that MC Esher drawing of the impossible staircase. Thanks for the LOL, RockHound, even though I don't think you were being intentionally funny.
  • C'mon Neal!
Calling Sanford a "bastard" or "scumbag" because he behaved like one is not an expression of moral supremacy! It's calling a spade a spade. Remember: it takes one to know one. When the pot calls the kettle 'black', the pot is right! Anyway, what really fries my socks is when people who have no standards, beat up on the ones who violate their own standards. And no, I don't think Gov. Sanford should leave office because for betraying his family (especially his precious sons), but for derelection of duty.
  • Affair
Anyone think Presbo may have had an affair. Apparently Michelle has him by the gonads. He wouldn't kiss the hot French chick even when it was customary. They go out on all these romantic dates even though they've been married 17 years. Give me a break. He has to walk a fine line or she will spill the beans.
  • Moral High Horse
Which would be better? A party that strives for morality & occasionally falls short? Or a party that says to hell with morality, we'll lie, cheat, steal, buy votes, & pander to the basest instincts in mankind?

Boortz has made it plain that he believes that questions of morality, right or wrong, have no place in our political discourse. He is for adopting whatever policies are expedient -- whatever it takes to gain political power. In that, he is like the Democrats. The only difference is in what they believe is expedient.

Hopefully, most people will reject Boortz's notion of what politics should be & realize that a government without a moral compass will stick at nothing & will always degenerate into tyranny.
  • Is this what Sotomeyer meant?
When she talked about a wise Latina woman "rendering a better decision"?

Maybe that can be another one for the dictionary :-)
  • Enough Already
There are so many other things going on in this world...can we just stop talking about it already?!? If you are a SC resident, it's news. If not, who freakin' cares?!? Every talk show is discussing this...more dumbing down of America, I say.

Actually, I am going to start drinking. Hear the name "Sanford"....take a drink. I should be s**t faced in about 15 minutes.
  • Why adultery is a big deal.
Adultery, and anything else that leaves a person vulnerable to blackmail, is a big deal in the Military for valid and obvious security reasons. It’s just as big a deal (bigger, in my opinion) if the person is beyond the military, and into the civilian part of the chain of command, like wild bill.

If the dp was held to any standard on anything, there wouldn’t be enough of them eligible for office to make a party, much less a majority.
  • Falling off horses
"Look ... the Republicans love to parade through town on their moral high horses. When they fall off it's naturally going to make more noise.

    Thud."

They fall off their high horses and into the horse crap.
  • "Men are pigs, all men, no exceptions."
We hear this often, so I want to point out just one thing: When one says "all men cheat" or "all men are pigs" (because we know ALL men cheat), ask yourself this question: Who/what are they cheating with? So, unless they are cheating with other men, then 50% of the cheating pigs are actually WOMEN! Think about that next time you hear someone condemn only adulterous men.
  • Ah, yes. The ubiquitous "personal" emails
Emails written on a government computer and posted through a government server are not "personal."

Personal aside to the South Carolinians: Any time you think South Carolina politicians are bad, come to Alabama. We don't even have home rule.
  • Uh, George
I believe the press was on to this.

Or, can you explain why his hometown paper was waiting for him when he got off the plane in Atlanta?

And, I. Moyer. How does this affect your quality of life? Sanford made you look. Neener, neener.

Just remember: you republikkkans started it. This is such great fun.

Finally, a wife who doesn't stand next to her husband holding his hand.
  • thanks for the lesson however............................
I know it seems that I want to play word games but I don't.

thanks for the civics lesson......he (osamabama?) isn't my hero.

heros are special people, they save lives by doing something above and beyond normal actions. not that our young warriors aren't brave but just going into harms way is not being a hero thats called duty. being a hero means jumping on the grenade to save your comrades in arms.

now if you could get the muslin marxist osamabama to jump on that grenade you would be my hero....

thanks again for the civics lesson....I apoligize to all here.......

  • Compare the Hikes
If Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail, then Bill Clinton was scaling Mt. Everest.
  • But we expect Democrats to cheat on their wives
This isn't how it's supposed to go. At least democrats don't have to apologize when they cheat on their wives.
  • "Straight talk" kinda guy...not really
For all of you saying that Gov. Sanford was "gutsier" than previous cheaters (such as Elliot Spitzer, Bill Clinton, etc) since he came out with the news himself---I hate to be the one that breaks this to you, but he's not.

The newspaper that obtained a copy of his e-mails in December '08 originally set it aside as inauthentic; then when he disappeared for a few weeks they got suspicious and confronted his office about them. Fearing imminent publication of the letters (and only after this), he comes out and "admits" his infidelity. Believe me, if those e-mails hadn't been leaked to the press neither you nor I would be hearing about Governor Sanford's promiscuity.
  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  • SANFORD "BREW-HA-HA"
Yet another male with a "wayward" penis.
    Male weakness at its best.
    Big deal!
    Move on!
  • This affects the quality of my life, how?
*shrug* Gov. Sanford could have been "hiking the Appalachian Trail" with goats, for all I give a crap.

My viewpoint on most things is, "this affects the quality of my life, how?" The man having an affair doesn't, not in anyway, shape or form, except to get me to hold off on breakfast while I type this. I don't live in his state, he's not bloody likely to run for anything in my state, and it looks like his career is over anyway, for all intents and purposes.

I am curious, however, as to why he was absolutely stupid enough to let the press get "a holt to" (sorry, couldn't resist) his love letters. Dumba$$. I had a teacher once who taught me a valuable lesson...never write anything down that you don't want others to see.
  • Gov. Sanford
Yes, Gov. Sanford screwed up and had an affair while in office, yes his wife did know about above mentioned affair, that is why they had split up to take time from each other.
But Gov. Sanford also had the gonads and guts to admit his affair before the people of the state of S.Carolina and not be caught by exposure from the press like Bill Clinton and Eliot Sprizter were caught.
  • Paul's Example in the bible
These republicans needs to start remembering Paul's example in the bible. As he rights in 1st Timothy 1:15 " Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst."

Paul to outside eyes was certainly not the worst sinner in the bible, but he considered himself so as to prevent himself from judging others for there sin.

Sanford's adultery is between himself, his family, and God. The real problem is that he disappeared off the face of the earth with no one able to contact him and left the country in doing so. For that he should step down as Governor, though it be a huge loss to the state of South Carolina and the Republican party.

  • Republican Morals
Clinton was never convicted of perjury. The Clinton impeachment was an effort to embarrass President Clinton. This would not be nearly as big of a deal politically were it not for the extreme right wing of the Conservative party. It is time for the Conservatives to be the police of fiscal governance and kick out the ones who only want to police our morals.
  • Um, Butt...
You might want to take a good look at that little document your hero is shredding with each passing day called the Constitution, turn to the section called Bill of Rights, and scan to the 4th Amendment. In case you're too lazy, allow me: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Then there's that little thing called The Privacy act of 1974: "No agency shall disclose any record which is contained in a system of records by any means of communication to any person, or to another agency, except pursuant to a written request by, or with the prior written consent of, the individual to whom the record pertains..."

Now that that little piece of unpleasantness is taken care of, this guy is an idiot. And I dont' condone his actions one little bit but it's going to take .3 seconds for the hypocritical left to tell everyone that this is indicative of all Conservatives and Republicans.
  • If you won't break an oath to your wife you will break an oath to your country.
Boot him to the curb, if he doesn't have the decency to resign. Let lack of standards remain the hallmark of the dp.
  • Having an affair is his private life and I don't give a rip about it...as long as he stands for limited government and individual rights, he's fine with me. The problem I have with Clinton, among many other things, is that although he messed around with an intern (again, his business, I don't care) he lied about it under oath...not that I think messing around with an intern is a crime, but lying under oath is...and he had no ramifications...compare that to Scooter Libby who lied under oath (knowingly or not) when there was no crime committed, and he gets hammered. WTF?

  • Liberal response to Sanford debacle
*sigh* I just got through reading an article in the NYT in which the author while excusing Sanford's adulterous behavior goes on to explain why she thinks he's a few bricks short of a wall (big surpise there considering the source). She ends by saying that, given the circumstances, shouldn't the Republicans be ashamed of themselves by putting us through the Clinton impeachment. Won't the liberals ever learn that the Clinton impeachment was never about sex, it was about perjury. You can't charge someone for sexual infidelity, but you can for perjury. I think that secretly they know this, but persist in perpetuating the myth because it works so conveniently for them.
  • wow Copy
You really struck a nerve this time! You've got one so annoyed he had to claim you are pro-rape in order to make an argument against you. Oh you rape-loving libtards!!!! LOL.

Another straw man argument from the one who tells liberals not to gleefully throw Republicans under the bus because any man who cheats on his wife is bad, mkay? Thanks, Captain Obvious! And thanks for the subtle but flawed attempt to compare liberals to Republicans. It's as if you still believe Republican = conservative. Somebody preserve him in wax and put him in the Ronald Reagan Museum!

  • Tim Ernandes
    Right you are!
  • The Buried Story
While we're all wading in this man's personal life, let's not miss another story that the press has conveniently buried here.

This whole affair came to light because "someone" gave a newspaper a cache of the governor's personal emails to this woman.

Now, how do y'all feel about that? Do you feel better knowing that your personal emails can be cracked and hacked and sent to the media for publication, and no one will get in any trouble for it?

Once again we see what the "right to privacy" means in this country: the right to kill your kids. Nothing else is private.

I think we need a law that would punish any use of emails unauthorized by the senders or the recipients thereof - a law that would apply especially to the mass media.
  • Sanford
I gave up a while back on thinking politicians should be held to a higher standard than the next guy.

I have given up on expecting them to be any better than the next man. Having an affair is not that big deal to me. I will take a politician who has an affair and cuts my taxes over a pol who is 100% virtuous and raises my taxes.

However, I can see having him resign if he was really out of contact. He is the governor. While the state will roll along 99.99999% of the time, there is that odd case where something happens that requires the governor's attention. That does not mean he cannot take a vacation, but if he was really out of touch, that is bad.
  • Can We Move On?
Sanford's an egocentric idiot. Can we move on now? Like Ensign, Edwards, Spitzer and all the rest before them, he traded a shot at the most powerful position in America for an illicit affair. In the process he destroyed his marriage, the respect his children had for their father and the loyalty/credibility of many good people who voted for him. He paid a high price for his stupidity. In the case of Sanford (as well as Edwards), there's the added hubris of hypocrisy. You can't claim to be for family values or dedicated to your poor sick wife, while at the same time conducting an affair. The country has condemned and scorned Sanforn. There's no reason to continue talking about it. Let him rot in the personal h-ll he's created. As a nation, let's move on. We don't need a week of Politico, talk radio and network coverage to tell us he's a fool. We've figured that out.
  • @By NCchik @ 06/25/09 09:17:41 AM
"...can't someone espouse family values and still screw up?"

Screw up? Almost sounds innocent when you put it like that. The question is: Can someone espouse family values while lying to their wife and 4 kids so they can skip town the week of Father's Day for the purpose of continuing an extramarital affair in another country without telling anyone where he was going or how long he would be gone?

If you think the answer is yes, "espouse" probably doesn't mean what you think it means.
  • Moral Values, Republican style!
Got to love it. Isn't it convenient that Jesus forgives as well! :) He must be a bit tired of the Republican party by now though.

It's one thing to have a sexual affair with someone. It's another thing totally to have an emotional affair. The latter is much, much worse because it's real and from the heart. And that's what Sanford had. What a betrayal of his family!

If Republicans really cared about the sanctity of marriage, they would punish adultery and outlaw divorce. But in that case, the entire Republican party would be in jail and/or stuck in unhappy marriages! They have no moral ground when they oppose gay marriage.

All that said, I don't think having an affair should have any bearing on your ability to hold political office and/or other positions. But the fact that Sanford lied to his staffers, disappeared for five days without telling anyone, and used taxpayer money for these visits - those are valid points against his leadership.

From Catholic priests to Governors, gotta love dem Bible thumpers! Praise Jesus!
  • Thinking with the wrong head...
Yo, liberals, before you gleefully throw Republicans under the bus and declare them the 'Culture of Corruption', Gary Hart...Bill Clinton...Elliot Spitzer...the list goes on. I think any man who cheats on his wife is a jackass. I think any politician who thinks he is immune to the scrutiny is an idiot. That said, does it really prevent someone from being an effective legislator? Probably not. Should or can we trust that person? Leave that up to the voters of his or her home state. Copyleft...try to conduct yourself like a grown up. You sound too much like Perez Hilton...without the crying, of course.
  • affair maybe ... failing in his duty as governor NO
The governor of a state should never disappear without letting his staff know where he'll be.

I can understand the affair. We're all human. However, by disappearing like that, & not for the 1st time either, he failed his state and the voters.

What would have happened if a disaster had occurred & his authority was needed to get the state to act?

No he FAILED his state. No pass for that.

At the very least the Republican leadership should toss him out of the party.

I think he should be impeached if he won't step down.
  • Hot, er, Worth A Political Career, Or Not?
    http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/HalconMillonario/MissArgentina.jpg
Okay, so she's the at the "HOT" end of the Bell Curve of Argentina ladies, but if she's not representative of Sanders', uh, concubine, it wasn't worth it. And even if, he could have waited and had, er I mean invited her to the Oval Office.

But at least this sorts out the politicians who think with the wrong organ.
  • Sanford and the flatbelly...
Why didn't he just pull a Slick Willy, and get her a state job there in Columbia? Where's Hamilton Jordan when you need him...
  • FYI, KomradeLeft...
Republicans did not impeach Clinton for cheating on his wife... He was impeached for lying under oath. And as for imposing morality, you libs do nothing but impose your own morality on people... why else must we use government to solve the problems of all the 'victims'? Because that is your moral code, which you have no problem imposing on everyone else. Under the Constitution, we are all free to follow our own moral code... under liberalism, we are all FORCED to follow YOUR moral code... none of the policies of the left stand up if they are viewed through a prism that values FREEDOM above all else, providing that we do not try to limit the freedom of others.
  • Confused Staff
I think his staff just didn't hear him right. When he said he was going to get himself some "Argentinan Tail", they heard "Appalachian Trail". Easy mistake.
  • New Goal
New Goal: "hike the appalachian trail" while hiking the appalachian trail.
  • @By Copyleft @ 06/25/09 09:20:21
Typical braindead drivel from a libtard. So, this is the way it is with you vermin: Republicans preach that family values and morals are a good thing, and then, since no one is perfect, a man ends up making a mistake and breaking one of those values, that person is trash, evil, and a hypocrite. On the other hand, the Dems have no morals or values, they are then allowed to do anything, they can rape people if they want, and that is OK because they never preached against those bad things and never had any morals or ideals to hold up to!
  • Clinton and Sanford
For all the "Clinton had problems for immorality" crowd. To clarify he was in trouble, not for what he did with Lewinsky (and dozens of other women) but be cause he lied under oath to a Federal Grand Jury in an attempt to deny justice to Paula Jones.

You can't be angry at Sanford for abandoning his post if you aren't angry at Clinton for the same reason.

This DOES NOT justify Sanford through some form of moral equivalency. Sanford is a sleaze.
  • It's all his aide's fault
I blame Gov. Sanford's aide. Sanford clearly told them that he was going away to "get some Argentinian tail." The aide just mis-heard it and thought Sanford said, "hike the Appalachian Trail."

    :-)
  • Sanford
    He was hiking the
    'Argentine Tail',
not the Appalachian Trail. He was miss-quoted.
  • Clinton vs Sanford
Clinton lied to a grand jury. I didn't care if he was doing an intern but he did put the nation's capital in a position (sic) of possibly being blackmailed. And considering some of his actions towards the end of his presidency, maybe he had been blackmailed.

Lying to the grand jury is Clinton's crime. A bit worse than just having an affair. So they don't compare. Sounds like Sanford was preparing to "come out" anyway, if his wife already knew and some of his staff knew, he was probably just waiting till the stimulus battle was over, then went to warn "her" cause I'm sure the media will now hound her.

And Doc, who cares if Neal is a so-called "real" libertarian? I really don't agree 100% with any party, don't know how anyone can and be honest with themselves, you just find the one closest and work with them.

So yes, the Libertarians have a real chance. Or if Ron Paul runs again as a Republican, THAT could resurrect the party. Even though he is a libertarian.
  • Therapy
If Sanford were a democrat he could simply go to therapy, say he is a sex addict and claim it won't effect his job.
  • Sanford's girlfriend
According to the Buenos Aires Herald today, Sanford's lover is supposedly a married, but separated woman with two sons herself.
  • come on -
This issue is not political. This has to do with the nature of the beast. I have to believe he knew he could get caught, and perhaps his leaving without really telling people where he went, was a cry of "help". oh please, my own writing is making me laugh. He just was doing what some men do and have for many hundreds of years - chase after other women. Regardless whether it is right, wrong or indifferent it doesn't matter what party the offender is.

Men in high places have got to learn that when they can't keep their pants zipped, they will eventually get caught.
  • Politicians
Talking about how if we did a full investigation, all our politicians would be in jail. That reminds me of a book I read once. The town locked all elected officials in jail as soon as they were elected. It saved time. If you wanted to go see your elected official, you went to the jail! Sure, they still did their work from the jail, but they were where they belonged!
  • at least he didn't meet her in the shidder
Of course she's a flatbelly. You don't go all the way to Argentina for a fat chick.

The guy obviously has good taste. There's nothing like a sexy Latina babe.
  • Re: Rise of the Libertarians
there is no way the Libertarian party will gain control of the government. there are too many people who depend on the democrat or republican nanny state.
they will support a coup before that happens. and 80% of the people will support it due to erroneous press coverage or will support it because they don't care.
and you don't neal is an actual libertarian, do you? he's a libertarian as much as george bush is.
  • Good timing?
Actually, Sanford's timing was brilliant. It distracted the MSM away from Obama's infomercial. In some ways, you can say he took one for the team.
  • where are the pictures?
Where are the pictures of Maria Belen Shapur, the mistress of Mark Sanford?
  • Reminder
    BY THE WAY...

Two of the most outspoken "moral virtue champions" calling for Clinton's destruction when HIS affair was exposed were...

    Mark Sanford and John Ensign.

Gee, ya think it might be time for the Republicans to quit pretending they have some sort of moral high ground and the right to preach to everyone about "family values"? Let's ask Senator Craig.

(To the inevitable rejoinder, "Dems cheat all the time, Clinton sux, blah blah blah..."--and have the Democrats been claiming the position of Moral Watchdog of America, hmm? No, they have not.)
  • Joyce
You are correct. If anyone had actually heard his ideas to fight Obama's economic/health care policies, they'd dispel any negative thoughts about this man's competence.

It really does suck that this happened.
  • State Officials on "Walkabouts"
So, was Sanford charging the taxpayers for his travels? Our VA Governor Kaine has been tiptoing out of the state on junkets for the DNC and Pres. Obama...and just now issued a statement that the DNC will be reimbursing the state taxpayers for Kaine's security detail as he stumps for programs that aren't necessarily ones that same taxpayers agree with...As far as I'm concerned, Kaine is getting more banging for the buck than Sanford.
  • Just More Hypocrisy from the Democrats
"... the Republicans love to parade through town on their moral high horses" and Dems like to remind people of that fact everytime someone (Republican) is caught with his pants down. Neal, you sound like you've gone over to the dark side. What they are trying to do is show the hypocrisy of the right although can't someone espouse family values and still screw up? If there had been a through investigation of corruption and tax fraud by the press, most of the administration and probably our legistlatures would be in jail right now. First Ensign and now Sanford, let's see if they get the same pass as Governor Patterson. The bigger question is whether their is something bigger in the works, some plan to bring down those conservative voices before the 2010 election and weaken the already weakened Republican party. I think we should remember that Obama "won" his positions by disqualifying his opponents. Personally, I hope both Ensign and Sanford continue in their postitions. G-d knows they can't be any worse than the non-hypocritical Democrats. Proof once again that Republicans make better lovers.
  • SC has been getting screwed
by the SC Legislature for years!!!

Mark Sanford, we can forgive. (I do think he should resign, though.)

The SC Legislature - many of us cannot forgive. THEY ALL need to be run out of town - BOTH PARTIES!!!
  • GOP should leave moral policing to Iran and the Saudis...
Looks like Sanford wanted to Impeach Clinton for being immoral. This really shows why the GOP needs to stop living in this fantasy world where they actually believe that they have some type of moral high ground. The Republicans need to stick to down sizing all types of government and enforcing the constitution. Leave the moral stuff (drugs, prostitution) up to individuals. Otherwise the GOP will be driving the young conservative vote to the libertarians.
  • Agenttinean Agenda
I'm just guessing it was a man and not a woman at all...

Regardless of his preference it's no more different that Bill Clinton shameless hide.

Send the both 2 tickets to paradise....

    NOT!!!
  • I wonder......
if Sanford will pull a Clinton and say that he "did not have sexual relations with that woman."
  • Re: Rise of the Libertarians
    Scott:
I have to thank people like you and Neal for turning me to the Libertarian party. As you both have probably said, "It will be Libertarians or Libertarian principles that save this country."

It won't be the Democrats, as their socialist measures will kill the country, and it won't be the Republicans since they are "Democrat-lite".
  • What a waste.
No, I don't feel he's guilty of "living" (leaving) his post, I'm sure they knew how to contact him in an emergency, they just don't want to admit it cause then their neck will be on the line too. Gov. Sanford is a big enough man to take all the heat for this.

What is a real shame, is this man had great ideas for America, one of the few politicians to be trusted. But now, no one will listen to anything he says.

    "He coulda been a contender!"
  • Mark Stanford
What the biggest problem is that he left the state with out letting anyone knowing where he was. Being a governor is 24/7 job. Anything could have happen that needed him there. I feel that let the people of SC down by living his post.
  • Rise of the Libertarians
The republicans aren't looking so good, but this is still early for the 2012 and the time is right for the libertarians to make their presence known.
  • Finger Wagging
Hey, At least the guy admitted it and didn't shake his finger at us in denial.
  • Another reason to love the Huckster
If you would like another reason to support Huckabee you should hear his thoughts on this issue. Basically, the Sanford's are friends of the Huckabee's, but Huckabee says he's not going to pretend that what Sanford did was ok because they're friends. Sanford put himself before his people, and Huckabee is NOT ok with that.
