The Wall Street Journal on "The New Wage Controls."

The IRS wants to tax any private use of work cellphones as a fringe benefit.  Are you starting to get the picture here?  There is not one dollar in your pocket the government doesn't want to get its hands on.

The Obama administration is going to get its way ... Gitmo detainees will be brought to the US for trial.

Speaking of GItmo.  The youngest Gitmo detainee, who was captured when he was 14-years-old, has been released.  Will he end up killing a non-believer?

US household wealth fell $1.3 trillion in the first quarter to $50.4 trillion, which is the lowest level since 2004.

The second most powerful Republican in the House Rep. Eric Cantor said that Obama's plans for the auto industry are "almost like looking at Putin's Russia."

North Korea may be planning to match the new UN Resolution passed this week with a new nuclear test.

Victor Davis Hanson explains why Barack Obama is a historically challenged president.

The Senate passed legislation Thursday that puts the tobacco industry under the regulation of the Food and Drug Administration.  I don't like to see the government moving in ... but I sure like seeing these drug addicts made miserable.

How did the lamestream media report Obama's plan for a government-owned health insurance company?  They buried the story.  That's why you read Nealz Nuze.

If you want to know the real reason why California is in a dire situation when it comes to its budget, look no further than the unions.

Barack Obama says that he has identified hundreds of billions worth of savings in our budget in order to pay for healthcare.  Oh yeah?  Do tell ....

As if Congress didn't have anything else to do, it wants the FCC to limit the volume of TV commercials.  Poor Billy Mayes.  He's not yelling.  He's projecting.

The Energy Department is going to spend $240 million to study how to make more fuel-efficient large trucks.  Isn't this what the private sector is for?

The aftermath of this Holocaust Museum shooting: Can right-wing hate talk lead to murder?

France's highest court has determined that access to the Internet is a basic human right.  France being France.  Now ... will our Supreme Court use this ruling as precedence when the question comes before them?

The government of Australia is considering new climate laws similar to the United States.  Under the Australian plan, police will be forced to become "carbon cops."

New York City is planning to trap and kill up to 2,000 Canada Geese in order to avoid the type of collision that caused the Hudson River crash.

What others are saying

  • Fuel-Efficient Large Trucks
The Department of Energy is going to do a study to make sure larger trucks are more fuel efficient, huh? I wonder if this is the same department of energy that failed it's pown energy audit? (http://blogs.wsj.com/environmentalcapital/2009/06/08/energy-department-fails-its-own-energy-audit/)
  • taxing cell use
how bout a tax credit for work use of personal cell phones?
  • Company Cell Phones
Caterpillar must have known this was coming because they just started a new program to eliminate corporate cell phones. Managers have to pay for their own cell phone now to conduct business.
  • TV Commercials
From what I understand the volume of TV commercials is already regulated. As far as I know the commercials can't be any louder than the loudest level in the program they are scheduled in. Unfortunately during some programs that can be very loud. May be a median level of the program would be better.
  • volume control...
I certainly don't think the government should be getting invovled, but really how annoying is this! Here I am watching my favorite show and the volume on the TV is very high because I simply can't hear if it is low. Then it cuts to commercial and I am hit by a sudden wave of sound. I lower the volume so as not to wake the sleeping baby in the next room. Then my shows comes back on a couple of minutes later and I can hear a thing so I miss the first 30 seconds while I readjust the volume.

Not to mention that every freaking station has different volume settings. I have complained to my cable company, I have called the stations to complain, and even sent in nasty letters and emails, but nothing gets through.

Well, perhaps I am for government making a statement hear.
  • Drug Addicts
    Neal,

Your dislike of tobacco users is evident in almost every edition of the Nuze. How can you square your attitude towards them with your call to end the war on drugs? Do you realize there will be many more such people in the public square to irritate you if marijuana is legalized?
  • Difference between Putin vs. Obama
Putin genuinely loves his country and wants to make it stronger. Obama hates his country and wants to make it weaker.

Polar opposites, if you ask me.
  • Marijuana
I guess when MJ is legalized and Philip Morris gets into that industry, the FDA will regulate that too????
  • Thank you for taking down the child porn
Though it was instructive and provided further proof that the world is going to hell in the proverbial handbasket, I'm glad you took down that horrible video.
  • Laughing at the news.
The IRS wants to tax anything it can measure or meter.

Bringing gitmo detainees here is stupid and dangerous, so of course hussein will do it if he can. He should share blame for everybody killed when terrorists attempt the break their members out of US prisons like they do elsewhere.

Tshirt-doc makes a good argument for executing all gitmo detainees rather than releasing any. Being caught armed and out of uniform on the battlefield is proof enough for that.

It’s not very coincidental that US household income has fallen by roughly the additional amount of money the dp blew stimulating it’s supporters.

Did Rep. Cantor realize both are socialists? You never hear putin disparaging his country.

The dp and UN will do nothing about the norks, no matter what the norks do.

Hussein probably read too much said and chomsky, these idiots still haven’t figured out, or been forced to face the fact they were on the wrong side in the Cold War. History isn’t kind to them or their thinking.

It’s the msm’s ‘duty’ to bury anything that might hurt their messiah’s popularity.

The more trivial things congress can distract them selves with, the less real damage they can do.

After blowing that $240 million, they will conclude cutting the payload will increase individual gas milage, and ignore the fact they must use more trucks.

Not only does salon think “right wing hate radio can lead to murder they think the left is immune to such things.

Don’t expect NYC to be bright and thrifty enough to cook those geese in their bum shelters.
  • Miranda Rights for POWS
I am sorry but I just could not believe my ears or my eyes when this report came out. They are prisoners of war and my limited knowledge of law, and after some research on the subject, they are not covered by Miranda and thus have no Miranda rights. If I understand correctly they fall under Geneva Convention and that is all. Keep them out of the American Courts and try them in Military Tribunals as is the SOP for POWs.
  • Volume CONTROL
So, the government is convinced that the American public is no longer capable of controlling the volume level of their TV's (I'm quite sure that there a quite a few that can't)and must step in to fix THAT PROBLEM.
I wonder when they're going to decide I can't wipe my own ass?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  • Tobacco
Yes, let's stick it to anyone who decides to enjoy a smoke. There are all of four tobacco farmers in my county now. Stalin must be in hell smiling now.
  • Tabacco Legislation
I have only one issue with the new legislation: the FDA will not allow for flavored tobacco.

I don't want lung cancer or mouth cancer so I don't smoke, its my choice. If I want to take that risk and I want mint flavored or some other flavored tobacco I should be able to. I don't need some government bureaucrat telling me how to live my life. Life is short, even if I manage to live 100 years, that is still a short life. I should be able to live it how I choose so long as I'm not directly hurting anyone else's life or property.
  • TV Commercials and Right-Wing Radio
If Congress limits the volume of TV commercials, it will be the best thing they've done all session. After a long struggle to get our months-old daughter to sleep, we usually take in a TV show or two. And inevitably, the commercials are twice as loud as the show.

As for "right-wing hate speech", which right wing commentators have targeted Israel and/or Jews? That's traditionally a left-wing target.
  • From http://www.taxgirl.com/dialing-up-trouble-irs-tries-to-enforce-cell-phone-fringe-benefits/

Congress is currently considering a bill to removing cellphones from the IRS list of fringe benefits. The bipartisan sponsored litigation passed the House earlier this year and a similar bipartisan bill, this one sponsored by Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) and Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), is pending in the Senate.
  • Cell Phone Tax
But Neal, it is not just that they want to get at every dollar. The use of a business cell phone is not a dollar in your pocket, it is a benefit. It has no concrete market. What the IRS is trying to do is tax the use of the benefit. They see it as income. It is a prelude to a whole slew of use taxes.
  • Send me some of those gooses
I hear they are great eating.
  • Right-Wing Hate-talk
By hate talk I assume they mean crap like that on neo-Nazi websites such as that operated by van Braun.

Because conservative talk radio is NOT hate talk no matter how much liberals want to brand it that. Name one instance where Hannity has ever uttered a word of hate. I can name at least 3 liberals in the past month who have spoken ill of the children of conservatives, and not just ill but downright perverse (Letterman, that lesbian on The View, and Jamie Foxx).
[don't give a rat's ass if it's supposed to be comedy]
All of the major talk radio hosts vilified by the left are pro-Israel. All support the Jewish nation. And none base their views on racism. That's such a trite and play-out word I want to vomit every time I see/hear it.
The hate-speech thing just doesn't work.

So a white guy hated Jews, he was clearly a twisted individual. Tookie Williams, that low-life who liberals defended until death killed white people out of hate and no one called him a racist.
I abhor running through the examples because minorities and white guilt-laden white people refuse to acknowledge, and will never be swayed into seeing that racists come in all colors and beliefs.
  • FDA Tobacco Bill
I am a non smoker and find this stinky habit disgusting. However I do feel that if the government is going to control the smoking industry to "protect our health" then shouldn't they do the same for the alcohol industry, along with the fast-food, junk-food, and soft-drink industries. Fast-food chains that advertise cause just as much harm to our society as does tobacco.

And while we're at it, why don't we legislate any type of unnecessary dangerous activity that people regularly partake in. These include dangerous sports, race car driving, skiing, sky diving, boxing etc. Like smoking, drinking, or loading up on junk food, they provide some pleasure while potentially harming us.

And how will the government supplement the massive taxes they rake in, if everyone were to suddenly stop smoking?
  • If I was in South Korea, I'd be getting the hell out
Soon our maps will be changed to show The People's Republic of Korea as one unified nation led by Dear Leader Il. Of course this is because Dead Leader Obama will continue to do nothing even if North Korea invades South.

I know these forums and I know Red Leader and t-shirt doctor will probably say that nothing is what America should do (and maybe I would agree). Except I do not agree because we already have an investment there. America intervened in the past South in Korea and we have thousands of soldiers still stationed over there. I would say that, like it or not, we have to do something. Obama may not like it, but it's about time that president of ours starts acting like one. He seems to forget that he is not the first president (read the article Boortz has linked about Barack being "historically challenged").
  • Wage Controls (article in WJ)
This is a great article! I particularly like the line where the writer talks about "Washington's role in encouraging the risk of excessive leverage." We hear all the time about how awful the banks are/were in handing out loans to those who never intended to pay them back. However, it is seldom mentioned (if ever!) how the policies made in Washington not only put pressure on the banking industry to make these loans, those same policies PROMOTED bad loans by making them in essecence...risk-free! The gov't backed them so it was a win-win for the banks. I have for a long time wondered how so many folks could seemingly "afford" such expensive homes and even cars. Now it's become quite clear: They CAN'T!
But unfortunately, those who figured out they shouldn't buy beyond their means and stayed within a budget, are the ones who wind up paying the tab for the others. In one way or another. Gee....who are the real "chumps?"
  • Obama's Plan for a Govt Owned Health Insurance Co.
I heard Obama say again yesterday that no one is offering alternatives for health care reform. If I hear that one more time I'm going to scream!! (Ok, I've already screamed...many times. My TV winces when I walk into the room now). It is a blatant lie and I'm sick of hearing it.

Here's an alternative plan from Senators Coburn, Burr, and Representatives Ryan and Nunes:
    http://www.house.gov/ryan/PCA/PCAsummary15p.pdf

But I doubt Pelosi, Reid or Obama will even take a glance at it, much less debate its merits.
  • Cantor
Come on Eric... Putin would be much better for America than BHO. At least Vlad has an intelligence background (and probably doesn't hate his country)
  • FDA
Boortz, the Great Libertarian, has spoken. he's glad someone is using force against smokers to make their lives miserable.

When is he going to stop making these false claims about being a libertarian & admit that he is just another statist?
  • Gitmo
if i had been imprisoned for 7 years i sure would take up arms to get my revenge. they didn't have proof.
    another story of Gitmo:
    http://www.fff.org/blog/jghblog2009-06-09.asp
  • Omoba's ears and Denzel
You guys see Denzel pull his ears forward when he and Letterman were talking about him playing the Prez in a movie. You should have seen the back-pedaling!
  • Youngest Gitmo detainee
Those Somali pirates were "just kids", too. That didn't make them any less dangerous.
  • Obama's healthcare promises
Since when does Obama have a problem with breaking a promise and just exactly what insurance companies are being paid for medicare. I thought that was between the govt and the Doctors and hospitals. Obama is a lousy example of a healthy lifestyle. He has purple lips from smoking cigarettes and wacky weed. His motto is do as I say not as I do.
