There must be a mistake .. the TODAY show mocked Obama's usage of the teleprompter. Someone is going to get fired.

This is what happens when you deal with government workers. It's only a matter of time, folks.

Here's an idea. Why not read what a Canadian doctor has to say about the Canadian healthcare system. This is not going to be pretty.

    That was thought provoking wasn't it? To have a real, intelligent discourse without the trolls interrupting was great. And yes, how do we draw the line?

    With the current administration and a supreme court that is backing him up unashamedly, I'm not sure we can, anytime soon. We'll have to reclaim the White House, Congress and call the justices on the carpet. I know they are supposed to be the final arbiter, but surely as taxpayers and voters we are allowed to question their rulings.

    Unfortunately, I display a fatal ignorance of history: Ammendment 14 to the U.S. Constitution was ratified IOT grant leagl rights to recently freed, post-Civil War era slaves- not eemy combatants nor illegal immigrants. Spoken like like a true progressive ignoramus- did you know that history existed before Friedan, Chomsky & Alinsky?

    There should be clear-cut legislation passed that states that all laws protecting the rights of persons is applied to all persons contained within American jurisdiction, territory, or custody. We must practice what we preach, in that all persons deserve fair treatment under the law. It is fair to interpret that the Constitution is worded in such a way as to protect all persons, citizen and non-citizen, criminal and saint, from having basic human rights stripped from a person by our government.

    Entitlements are not rights, they are programs to which a party is entitled (by definition, meaning that admittance has been selectively granted) to the benefits provided therein. Non-citizens should not be entitled to services of a voting, welfare, or public insurance capacity, aside from law enforcement, fire fighting services and the like, as these are the programs which are paid for by citizens for the benefit of citizens, and without this difference citizenship would be meaningless and without value or privilege.

    As to those persons who are citizens but are held outside of the country; unfortunately, those persons are not entitled to their rights as Americans because they are outside of the jurisdiction of the United States. This is why we have Laura Ling, all 115lbs of her, sentenced to 12 years hard labor in North Korea and we're essentially powerless to do anything about it; she is within the jurisdiction of North Korea and our legal and justice system has no authority in the matter. Our only pull is that of diplomacy and agreements of extradition, which is not applicable with North Korea.

    Even the reading of the Constitution as I quoted before limits the rights granted by the Constitution to the territories (jurisdiction) of the United States only, and can't be applicable in foreign territories or nations.

    Suddenly Neal is objecting to lifestyle taxes? But he's never objected to the outrageous and ever-increasing taxes on cigarettes. I'm sure he'd object to taxes on abortions - because he thinks "My Body, My Choice" only protects the right to destroy your baby's body, and not your own. Neal's fine with charging fat people extra fees too. But suddenly he's worried about lifestyle taxes?
    A little late, I'd say.

    How to keep the government from giving away all our benefits/rights as citizens to illegal aliens as far as welfare goes. There should be one for them, one for us. True your point about investigating a murder involving a non-citizen. But the weasels in Washington want illegals to get everything any of us might get. Whether that is a welfare benefit or a right to vote.

    That we cannot have.

    Also, can we deny rights to a citizen who is temporarily out of country? Such as the journalists being held in Iran? Does the government owe them protection?

    Not arguing here, it's just interesting discussion of the constitution.

    I don't read "jurisdiction" to have a connotation of implied responsibility, or burden. I read it as intended to mean territory; such as Guam and Puerto Rico in modern times. At the time of the writing of the Constitution, for example, Florida was not an incorporated state, but any person who crossed from Florida into Georgia, for example, was at that point under the jurisdiction of the Federal and State laws in place, regardless of their citizenship status.

    If we were to interpret "jurisdiction" to carry an "is this our responsibility?" meaning, then we'd have a difficult time with issues such as law enforcement. Example: If an officer is called to the scene of a crime, say murder, and the victim was a non-citizen, the officers could claim it is not in their jurisdiction to pursue that person which committed the crime, and the victim would be denied justice. I think it prudent for our nation to be a nation of laws which sees everyone as an equal human being, with no one being above, or outside of the (jurisdiction of) law.

    Granted, this is an entirely separate matter from welfare benefits, which should be exclusively available to taxpayers. If I don't have car insurance, and I get in a wreck, I don't call up Allstate and expect them to pay a claim when I'm not their customer. Same situation applies for illegals, in my mind. Entitlements (in their various forms) aren’t a right, they are a privilege of citizenship granted by us (collectively through representation) to us (the taxpayers).

    I still cannot find any evidence that obama practices what he preaches to these third world diaper bags passing themselves off as countries - nuclear power as an energy solution. He's all for these countries to invest in and develop this technology while we build giant suncatchers and pinwheels, and cars you can take inside the store with you when it's raining too hard. How do obamaniacs (many of which are rabid environmentalists) turn a blind eye to this contradiction with such smug confidence in their elected savior?

    Proposed Answer - U.S. Constitution, Amendment 14: Section 1

    1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

    This amendment was drafted to lay out Citizen's rights. However, the language seems to be carefully selected to prevent the Amendment from limiting rights to non-citizens, by using the word "person" instead of Citizen. Reading this Amendment, it appears as though the Constitution grants equal protection under the law to citizens and non-citizens alike.

    I don't believe the Constitution expressly limits rights granted by the Constitution only to Citizens. My understanding of the writing of the Constitution, with language like the following:
    "No person shall be held to answer for a capital.."
    "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right..."
    "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects..."

    These are just a few examples from the bill of rights, but the language here suggests that non-Citizens are equally covered under our territorial law. This would also make sense since there were vast numbers of non-citizens in and around the Colonies at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, and we needed our law to be applicable to those persons, for both our protection and the protection of non-citizens.

    If anyone is able to cite a listing in the Constitution that does specifically limit rights to Citizens only, I'd be interested to know. At this point, the only rights expressly granted to Citizens by the Constitution are the rights to seek Federal office.

    What I want to know is how much we've spent on each auto industry job "saved". I heard one estimate on WSJ, I believe, that said each job saved has cost around $455,000 (so far).

    while killing brain cells & surfing across the wasteland of cable TV, I stopped on & watched several minutes of the 90's movie GI Jane. While not EXACTLY waterboarding, the water "torture" endured by the BUD/S trainees was very similar. Yet no one has pointed this out (at least that I've heard).

    I'm a hero, short and simple. Yesterday, by choosing not to commit a mass murder of 100 people in some public place, I saved 100 lives and created 11 (assuming 11 of those people will eventually give birth). And you know what? I'm going to not kill 100 people and create 11 lives every day for the rest of my life. I'll save over a million lives and create tens of thousands by the time I meet my maker (um, for you slack jawed obamaniacs out there, that would be God - NOT obama).

    I find it fasinating that the liberals are so in love with OB, they can't see what is happening. I guess love is blind.

    You have Putin making comments that OB should be careful in ways of taking the country down the path of socialism is not a good idea, and we should learn from Russia's mistakes.

    Chavez comments that OB is so far to the left, it makes him look right to center.

    The Britians are going away from their liberal politicans and voting more conservative. Even though their conservatives are as bad as our liberals, their liberals are so far off to the left, we could not imagine it.

    The Canadaians are talking about how bad their one payer system is, and those with the money, head to the good ole USA when they are desperate for quailty health care.

    It just goes to show, that the new administration is erroding a lot of the great things we had going for us in this country. Built on capitalism, a free society ruled by law & not by man. And there are so many, risking their lives just to come live in this country.

    What a farce!! PrezBo made the statement about creating jobs such as road construction, upgrading buildings, etc… THESE ARE NOT JOBS!!! These so called “jobs” are really temporary employment paid by the taxpayers, but what are jobs you ask? Jobs are companies which provide services, labor, and products which are purchased by the public, not by public taxes!!!
    I dare the president to state how many non-taxpayer funded “jobs” were increased in the last 5 months, it will be in the negative, the high negative, then tell the American people how many taxpayer funded “jobs” were created. He won’t because he’ll be a failure in perpetrating his stimulus lie about how many “jobs” he has “saved or created”
    Is this administration acting like Bernie Madoff when it comes to employment, a giant Ponzi Scheme?
    The administration is relying on the private businesses who hire workers, to pay higher taxes with the promise of job creation, but the jobs the administration is creating are taxpayer funded jobs. At the same time, the administration is still relying on taxes from the private sector, even though these jobs are shrinking and taxpayer funded jobs are increasing, the tipping point will come when the cost of paying for the taxpayer funded jobs is more than the taxes extorted for the private business sector, this house of cards will fall.
