Yesterday, the first hearing of the Obama administration took place at Guantanamo Bay. This is just until they figure out what the heck to do with the detainees. After all, Obama did promise to shut down Gitmo and appease the moonbats.

While GM filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday, Chrysler had its own day in court as a federal judge approved the sale of most of the company's assets to Italy's Fiat.

General Motors and Citigroup have been kicked out of the Dow Jones Industrial average. How long before PrezBO becomes CEO of Citigroup?

Why are Conservatives So Mean? Watch this. Damn ... this is good.

The President of the World Bank says that stimulus plans (like Barack Obama's) are nothing but an economic 'sugar high' and will not ultimately curb unemployment.

When it comes to the media's infatuation with Barack Obama, the press has become Obama's silent ally and seems in a state of denial.

Bob Woodward wants to write a book about Barack Obama ... and the White House is apparently pretty nervous about the idea.

The Minnesota Supreme Court is finally hearing arguments on whether problems with absentee ballots justify reversing a lower-court ruling that declared Al Franken the winner in the Senate race.

Tax cheat Timothy Geithner tells an audience in China that its dollar assets are safe ... and they laugh at him. Not good.

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has the federal courts involved in decided who has control over stimulus money - the Governor or the state legislature. Power. All about power.

The economy performed better than expected in the first quarter, and no it was not thanks to those government stimulus checks.

According to Rasmussen, a whopping of 31% U.S. voters believe the economic stimulus package passed earlier this year has helped the economy.

The White House has decided that it is not going to reveal how much it cost the taxpayers for Barack and Michelle to spend a weekend in New York City.

Speaking of New York ... in order to raise a few extra bucks for the government coffers, New York City is selling the naming rights to some of its park facilities.

Rep. Charlie Rangel of New York gets the boneheaded politician comment of the day. Just remember, to this guy it is all about race.

  • WOW
i love that video, it's powerful, I disagree of course with the "animal pleasure" part - I don't recall Obama promising any animal pleasures, and homosexuality is definitely not it. And of course Obama I do believe is actually against gays, he just said he isn't to win the Presidency.
  • @ MS and Joyce
I disagree that my point was silly. The telecommuting point is virtually moot because you're not actively working when you're playing golf, clearing brush, or just walking 'round the ranch. All of these things are perfectly OK... a president lives at his office, and needs to get out periodically just like any other working person. I'd have issue with a "lover's retreat" if it was say, to Rome, Paris, etc for a week or two. That would be in very poor taste given the recent requests for people to make some sacrifices. But... there is a world of difference between going out for an evening and taking a trip "back to the ranch" and (effectively) telecommuting for days or weeks at a time (which also cost the taxpayers a pretty penny). We see the cost of the trip at say, $24k, but what would the cost have been should he opted to stay at the White House during that time? You'd still need a large security detail to monitor the grounds, or you'd see the costs of loading up a motorcade to go out to a dinner in DC. $24k seems like a lot of money to us common folk, but some of that cost was offset by reduced costs at the White House while the president is out. I was intending to focus my point on the hypocrisy present in the reporting of this story, and my opinion that it is really not newsworthy. Sorry to have taken us down a rat hole :-)
  • Cover or Remove Muslim Symbols?
When Obama speaks at a Christian facility he requires them to cover or remove all symbols of their faith. I wonder if he will require the same of the muslim facilities while on his next apology tour. I doubt he has the balls. Maybe Michelle will.
  • Silly point
Forrest says "By Labor Day 2001, Bush (remember, he inherited a recession also) had spent 54 days in Crawford, 4 days at Kennebunkport, and 38 days at Camp David."

Bush was still working while at these locations (except maybe Kennebunkport). Call it telecommunting if you wish. He and Laura weren't on a "lover's retreat" or something similar. He had heads of state visit him there and most of his cabinet staying nearby at Baylor.
  • Stimulus Checks?!?
I never rec'd mine. And I'm WAY below $250K. I acutally had to pay taxes this year, even though I was unemployed for 6 mo last year. Who do I call to get my stimulus check?
  • Forrest - the point and the hypocrisy
I think where so many have an issue with this "date night" is after Obama has ridiculed executives for their extravagant outings and his night out cost is right up there! It's the timing that is questionable. He is always going on about "us" sacrificing, he needs to do a little himself.

When times get better (if) then he can go jaunting about.
  • Woodward's book
With this suckbutt writing it the WH has nothing to be nervous about (even though there are things going on that they probably should be nervous about).
  • @ Rick pt 1
When you add up all the pork and discretionary spending, it factually isn't that much in the grand scheme of things... somewhere on the order of 2% of all money spent by the fed. Realistically, that isn't breaking the bank, and while I don’t like Schumer’s off-hand remarks that it doesn’t really matter, he does have a point (unfortunately). What is killing us is the amount of money that is being spent on defense and entitlements. Defense spending in the US is 4x what the next largest nation's defense budget is. Just because we spend a lot of money on it, doesn’t mean we're getting our money's worth. We have lots of people with personal vested interest in keeping the costs of say, a fighter jet, at astronomical prices. Instead of building them all at one location, they put small sub-factories that build components in nearly every state so that representatives in Congress won't shut them down (for fear of being portrayed as job-killers). That increases cost in the supply chain of said aircraft, and that cost is passed on to the government (us). Imagine how many billions are wasted simply by inefficient manufacture processes; processes whose inefficiencies are in place to line the pockets of the corporations contracted by our government to build our fabulous toys. I think we could have a vastly superior defense system in place on half the budget allocation, but our representatives are in the pocket of all of these large defense-oriented corporations, and we refuse to bring down the ax on projects which don’t work or are wholly unnecessary. Congress won’t touch defense waste and risk being accused of being weak, just like they won’t touch social security or Medicare etc… Our Constitution never was intended to justify our government spending money to protect other nations to serve our interests, yet that is what we do. Until we can get a grip on this kind of irresponsible spending, we’ll find the Hannity’s and Limbaugh’s making a spectacle out of a $24k date night for the president instead of focusing on the Pentagon buying steel washers for $1000.00 a piece. Compared to what the real problems are, this date night ‘controversy’ is just an unnecessary political distraction that the Right is trying to use to attack the president.
  • @ Rick pt 2
By Labor Day 2001, Bush (remember, he inherited a recession also) had spent 54 days in Crawford, 4 days at Kennebunkport, and 38 days at Camp David. Those jaunts cost the tax payer plenty of money also, but the Right didn’t have a problem with it. Obama takes one night out to thank his spouse for her support during the campaign and he gets crucified by Hannity and Limbaugh. I just don’t get it… looks like hypocrisy to me. Aside from Bush being away from the White House all that time, I don’t have a problem with his travels. Same goes for Obama.

I’d prefer that we have a President that is relaxed and can keep a clear head, and $24k is a small price to pay for that. As a matter of comparison, what do you think a state dinner at the White House costs? Probably a good deal more than $24k, and yet that would be an acceptable expense; but why is it acceptable?

I just really think it is a non-issue. The media, Right wing media included, should be devoting their cycles to issues of much greater relevance to Americans instead of these immature political pokes and jabs. We need investigative journalists and editorial shows that go through the budget to find waste, not focus on this kind of petty crap in an effort to promote their own political preferences.

Thanks for kind-of agreeing with me :-)
  • Some good Geithner quotes:
    1. Your holdings of U.S. Dollar assets are safe.
    2. The check’s in the mail.
    3. I’ll respect you in the morning.
    4. I’m from the government, I’m here to help.
    5. No, those pants don’t make your butt look big.

What's really sad is the stupid socialists in the MSM actually believe what this cast of clown administration says. The US is on the fast-track to banana republic status and the rest of the world is laughing.

As Gov. Sanford said, this is nothing more than "Mugabe economics" by the Obozo administration.
  • to Forest....
I agree that 24K isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. However how many times have you heard a politician (Chuckie Schumer is a good place to start - what's a million here or a million there on these little porky projects) say "in the grand scheme of things" it really isn't that much money. Then they try to compare it to how it would reduce the enormous deficit or some other idiotic thing.

So let's start by adding up ALL of the "in the grand scheme of things" projects and I will bet you it will make a difference. But, I doubt you will see that happen because then the government would have to put some "skin in the game"!!!

The timing of the little jaunt to NYC was poor. So on the weekend Obama has no problem spending 20+ thousand dollars going to dinner and a show. Then on Monday, with a straight face, tells americans they will have to sacriface. See if the people losing their jobs (20+ thousand) that 24K isn't that much money. I will bet they will disagree with you.

So in determining the "isn't that much money" depends on the perspective from which one views it.
  • @ Big B
Dude, Lance Boyle from Mega Race. Totally forgot about that game. SOLID reference LOL!
  • Mean Conservatives
I agree with everything Andrew Klavan said except liberty is harder than slavery. Sure perhaps a slave had very few decisions to make but I'm will to bet that the field slaves would choose liberty over slavery without hesitation. For those slaves born free there is no question but even for those born into slavery would welcome the chance for freedom without any thought required. That was physical bondage. Perhaps Andrew Klavan is talking about the pervasive mental slavery that plagues our society. You know the philosophy of dependency that somehow the American citizen has bought into. We have become a nation of domesticated citizens. We have voluntarily decided to give up our freedom much like house pets. The sad thing is when you talk to people about being self reliant they look at you as though you are speaking a foreign language. Every great civilization showed signs of it's impending demise right before it's fall. Here in America the signs are as visible as the sun.
  • OK, the 'date' issue is lame
seriously, who monitored every dime that Bush spent going back and forth to Texas to clear brush, or to go play golf, or fly to a photo op showing himself reading a book upside down to children? No one. It doesn't matter. Presidents are people too and deserve to have some personal down time. It wouldn't be a $24k trip if he didn't have to have a security detail, which he will have anywhere he goes, so what does it matter whether he goes on a date or goes for a jog? Having a president comes with its costs to the taxpayer, and $24k, or even $100k is inconsequential. At $24,000.00, this 'date night' cost each American $0.00008. That is a sacrifice I'm willing to make. In fact, I'll make that sacrifice a hundred thousand times over, which would cost me $8.00. Get real, people.

  • gitmo detainees
They are in a prison for terrorist activities, yes or no? Is one of those activities murder/killing innocents, yes or no? If they have not killed/murdered innocents, have they planned or aided and abetted those who did, yes or no?

Does not the death penalty apply to murder and aiding and abetting murder, yes or no? Did Tim McVeigh get the death penalty for murder or terrorism?

I seem to have little or no problem having the detainees executed for murder and terrorism. As terrorists they were willing to die for their cause. Why not fulfill their destiny as terrorists and have them die for their cause by executing them?

Is there a flaw in my logic?
  • conversatives are mean

  • Date Night
Great to see the king, err...president is making good use of his time in office. Funny how Obama can't stop living up to the stereotype of living like a king off of other people's money.
  • British Pubs
Thought I'd throw my own little "reading assignment" in here today. Have a look at how out of control (read: ridiculous) the rules, regulations, and permits have gotten for British pubs.

    http://www.reason.com/news/show/133827.html

Some examples: you can't drink while you're standing, no playing dominoes (without permit), no dancing (without proper paperwork), on and on it goes.

And here I thought the greatest place on earth to have a beer would be a British pub.
  • Pajamas TV
Wow...PJTV is great. There are a number of really good videos that explain the conservative perspective.

Should be mandatory watching at every graduation. What Obama is creating is like living through a scary political thriller where you know something really bad is going to happen at the end.
