Here's a "must read" by Andrew Stuttaford in the Weekly Standard. America's real power struggle is the super rich liberals vs. ordinary plutocrats.

This is another "must read" from P.J. O'Rourke on why Americans fell out of love with the automobile.

Ok, one more "must read" ... by far the most emailed article to the show was this from Pravada on America's whimpering capitalism. We covered it above .. so this is just to remind you.

Want to know how politicians are spending your tax dollars? The Wall Street Journal has a roundup for the latest examples of government waste and abuse ... digital cameras, cars, calendars, you name it.

A bipartisan coalition of36 Congressmen has asked Obama to return authority over the auto bailout to the Congress, but the White House insists that it is not overreaching its power.

This story has been getting a lot of press, but San Diego County officials backed down after warning a couple that they needed a government permit in order to hold Bible studies in their home.

When I tell you that the government ordered the takeover of several large iron makers last week, then snapped up a large bank and vowed to further limit the private sector .. we could conceivably be talking about the United States nowadays. In this case, we are talking about Venezuela.

Obama will be giving a speech this week from Cairo University, and Muslims apparently want respect for Islam, a prescription for Palestinian statehood and assurances of a speedy U.S. pullout from Iraq.

With this cap-and-trade legislation, Obama has managed to convert a former opponent -corporations -- into a powerful ally and constructed a win-win situation for the liberal-corporate axis.

What is the White House doing to restrict criticism of stimulus projects and is this a violation of the First Amendment?

A bill making its way through Congress could make the Jimmy Carter National Historic a full-fledged park owned and operated by the National Park Service.

Our government is going to set up Gitmo detainees with computer classes and laptops so that they can learn how to use email and "reintroduce them into a modern society."

Speaking of Gitmo, Obama has now asked Australia to take our detainees from Guantanamo.

Apparently the big news over the weekend was the fact that Barack Obama took Michelle to New York City to see a Broadway show.

A freeze warning for New Yorkers in June ... must be all that global warming.

Here's a PJTV video you might want to watch. Titled "Elizabeth Edwards Publicity Tour." Quite good. This Sonja Schmidt is a trip.

You'll probably hear a reference to Lava Falls in the Grand Canyon today. Belinda really enjoyed this ride last week. Here's some video of what Lava is really like.

  • Restricting Criticism
Norm Eisen, Special Counsel to the President on Ethics and Government Reform
needs to be fired immediately. He wants to restrict criticism of the "stimulus" by people who are not registered lobbyists because of the "special nature" of the stimulus package. What utter self-serving crap. How about this Mr.Eisen you actual, real-life Nazi? The so-called stimulus is nothing more than robbery and cronyism tied up into one unconstitutional and immoral package! Tell me where you can get such authority? Your law school should send someone to your office to retrieve your un-earned diploma because you obviously never read the First Amendment nor made any effort to understand its implications. I called you a Nazi earlier because my true opinion of anyone who abuses power and authority in such an flagrant and cavalier manner is unprintable. Turn in your bar card take up some line of work where you can't encourage those in power to abuse it further.
  • San Diego gathering
If it was a bunch of ACORN members, would they need a permit?

It was a stupid thing to do and they have backed down, proving they now realize it was stupid.
  • another apology
If Obama's speeches to the Europeans are any indication of his upcoming speech in Cairo, then we can expect Obama to apologize to Muslims for Americans not sharing their same beliefs. Why does Obama think that America's greatest attributes are something to apologize for or be humble about?
  • The Obama Presidency Comedy Hour (and endless reruns)
"Our government is going to set up Gitmo detainees with computer classes and laptops so that they can learn how to use email and 'reintroduce them into a modern society.'"

I figure they could just issue them bread knifes and small livestock and let them reintroduce themselves to the lives they left behind.

We're already a laughing stock. This just proves it.

Just put $1 Billion into the Obama Family Swiss Bank Account and let's get it over with. Do it now. Get him out, make him and his descendants wealthy forever, and just get this ship on course again.
  • Laptops for Gitmo
    Achmed's Twitter blog:

10 am - Infidels gave me a laptop! E-mailed Osama.

11 am - Got my package from Abdul. Allah is great! Love to family.

12 am - Arrived at one of the Infidel's outrageous indoor markets (they call them malls)

12:15 - Just waiting for the timer to---
  • Airliners
Don't they have GPS devices on Airliners so they can tell where they are all the time? I got one on my cell phone...one would think they would have one on a big plane.
  • Send the Gitmos to Austrailer
How many months are we into for this "closing down Gitmo within the next year" thing.

The within the next year target seems to keep moving.
  • amusing ourselves to death by stuwert mcmillen

    he got it right
  • San Diego Church Group
The government has no constitutional right to require a permit from the perspective of this being a religious gathering. It probably does, however, have the authority to require that they not impede traffic flow (regardless of the event). Practical minds need to come to the fore. Perhaps those in the Bible study group should meet in a church parking lot somewhere and drive in groups to the person's home thus eliminating the traffic hassles. Problem solved. The city wanting to resolve this problem by using rules to handle religious gatherings in "public" areas is just stupid on their part.
  • Trade your cap
It's not so surprising that some corporations are in bed with Obama( minds out of the gutter, it's just an expression...). You have to cover your bases if you have a large corporation which could stand to lose a lot if you don't play along. What's amazing is that Henry Waxman, who couldn't find his own rear end with both hands appears to have hit one out of the park, or maybe just an in-the-park home run...In any case, it's sad to see bad legislation based on flawed research and suspect motives being forced on manufacturers, and ultimately, us. Change it is.
  • P.J. O'Rourke
As long as I can draw a single CO2 laden breath, I will have a car that says: "Not giving up my love of cars!" I know it's not politically correct but one of the greatest things about modern American culture has been and still is the advance of the automobile. We will be known for many thing but we'll be identified with chrome, fins, horsepower and yes, poor gas mileage. So are we to blame for the change in climate? Probably not. Should we drive those weenie little Euro boxes or props from Poke Mon cartoons? I'd rather ride my mountain bike, it looks less silly than being in one of those dorky 'Smart Cars'. I'll moth ball my car if things get that bad. Then I'll roll it out on special occasions and piss of the neighbors by running up through the gears. Don't be hatin' on me, I only drive 8-9,000 miles a year. And I'm doing it my way...27 miles per gallon...
  • Missing Air France Airbus
Neal suggested turbulence or a ditching.

The first thing that came to my mind was that it was shot down or brought down by some on board incident.
  • A few comments...
It is getting harder to tell the difference between the actions of the government of Venezuela and the actions of the government of the United States!

Neal, remember that essay you read on air about spliting up America in two. Maybe we could give them the greedy corporations that are in the pocket of the Obama administration... The automobile makers, the banks that received TARP, the 'too big to fails' like GE and the like. Lots of corporations will prosper if cap and trade becomes law! Remember Enron? That was the first attempt!
