OBAMA'S MESSAGE IS SINKING IN

With younger generations graduating college and entering the workforce, where are they now turning to for job opportunities?  The government.  Yep, and this is just the way Barack Obama wants it to be.  Wall Street and the private sector are losing their luster, thanks to the economic crisis and the demonizing of wealth, corporations or anything that is deemed "evil" by the liberal media.  So we are producing a generation of government bureaucrats.  They know where the power and prestige is .. and that's where they're heading.

Labor department data shows that employment in Washington has increased since 2008, even though other sectors have lost jobs.  Economist Marisa Di Natale says, "D.C. is the only place where we can point to that is actually adding jobs right now, and we also know that the government is hiring thousands of people to oversee both the (economic) stimulus package and all the associated projects."

Now get this.  The demonizing of Wall Street and the economic crisis are not the only reasons why graduates are turning to the government for unemployment.  There is another reason that Barack Obama would be very proud of: it has because really "cool" to "give back" to your community.  For example, Britini Wilcher (her real name, not a stripper name) is a recent graduate of a college here in Atlanta.  She says, "It's becoming trendy to take your community into your hands and give back, which is a good thing ... People are empowered by the current political climate."

No ... I won't go into my rant on this "give back" crap.  It's just what you would expect from a newly minted college grad.  These new college grads are just the type that would be thrilled by the current political climate.  They're fresh out of school.  Their entire life's experience has been one of a culture of government.  Government schools -- Government universities --  Government employees at every turn telling them what's what and what's not and how the world works ... from the government perspective.  So, when the government grows stronger of course Britini and her ilk are going to feel empowered.

Gag me.  But that is the America we are raising.  These are the future leaders of this country.

What others are saying

  • Crisis Manglers (er, Managers)
Oh, goody! The largest financial crisis the nation has ever faced since trying to finance a revolutionary war.

And rushing to man the battle stations? The vanguards who will fend off the devestation?...

...A bunch of High Schoolers with a few years of "college" bling added on top, still giddy from their first binge drinking party.

Meanwhile, my taxes keep going up, and if I don't pay, men with guns come.

Is it too late to get Al Capone back? Jeez. All he wanted was 10%.
  • RE: Giving Back
I had to unfortunately attend a government school because my parents did not make enough money to send me to a real school(aka private). However, as to your comment about the HOPE Scholarship, I EARNED that. It was not handed to me. I had to study and keep my grades up to maintain it as well. I lost HOPE when I was young and foolish. I have since re-enrolled in college to finish my degree and have been using student loans to pay for it until I qualify for HOPE again at the end of this semester. At the risk of repeating myself, when I do get the HOPE grant next semester it will not be because it was "given" to me, it will be because I worked hard and EARNED it.
  • Red have to disagree just a tudge
"intellectually imposibble and dishonest to mention Obama's horrendous policy without mentioning Bush"

Bush is gone, he's history, we all know it was a disaster, but it was a disaster for decades before him. So if we have to mention Bush then what about Carter, Clinton, Nixon, etc., etc. Let's just concentrate on the now, and keep in the back of our minds that the real blame is an ONGOING mess.

Hopefully 2010 will see a shift in the right direction. 2012 will I believe be a change too since Obama's original supporters will not turn out in droves like they did last time. Too much like work for them.
  • Graduating from college!
Neal knows all about college and how it works,he should he flunked out of one!
  • Thanks again to public "education"
for producing idiots like "Britini". Now, who from this current crop of parasites is actually going to "produce" something and create jobs? It would appear none.

    New Zealand beckons...
  • Horses pushing carts.
Those government jobs only last as long as the government can pay them. The dp is not only spending more than even a free market can produce, they are wrecking the market. You can bet any or most of the ‘private’ sector jobs created will be those government subsidized ‘green’ jobs.

“Giving back,” isn’t the kind of thing most people who worked (doing something other than stripping) their way through school say. Nobody “gave” people who support themselves and pay for their own education anything but opportunity (Thanks, troops and free market) to learn and earn.

The successful “give” jobs and tax revenue (even if it is mostly wasted) to their communities and country, and earn profits by creating wealth. The way things are going, the youngsters will get a chance to learn that lesson soon. Then they’ll have their “carter stories,” if they can remember them longer than the run of a tv ‘reality’ show.

What britni is also saying is that now that the dp is back in power, it’s okay to volunteer to help out in your community again. They aren’t ‘empowered to do anything they couldn’t do before the dp took over, and if fact, are already empowered less, but now it would now benefit their party. We saw many on the left do it when President Bush was elected, and we’ve seen many on the right do the same since hussein was elected.
  • Giving back
If you had all of your "education" in government schools and went to college funded by a "hope scholarship", you owe your diploma to government, so you really have to "give back" something to it (aka the community)...
  • Don't Assume It Is Their Choice
Federal government is the only entity nationally that is hiring. I have to believe that once private industry, if there is such a thing in a year or so, starts hiring, you will see some exodous from government. Some of these kids have student loans thay have to begin paying on.
  • Who to give to?
If everyone is doing all of this giving, who exactly are we giving back to?
  • givin' back??????????????/
what they should do is give back to the folks that paid for their edukation (mom&dad) then take care of the community. in that order.
  • Who to give to?
If everyone is doing all of this giving back, who exactly are we giving to?
  • Don't Lose Hope Yet
Don't worry Neal, some of us had parents who were smart enough to send us to schools that challenged us instead of indoctrinating us. Watch out, private sector here I come. And if Obama lets me keep any of the money I am "given" maybe I will even donate some of it to charity.
  • College, Boortz nails this one
College is a sickening place to be right now for people with my belief structure. I am surrounded by youth who think only in terms of "who is hot" and who have attention spans that cause me to wonder how any of these students ever pull off graduation not to mention passing grades.
I am forced to sit in near silence because to speak my own opinion--in an environment designed for diverse thinking, mind you--is only acceptable if it is agreeable with the student body/professor's beliefs.

I have questioned decisions made by the current administration before in class(and defended some aspects--though not all by any means--of the former administration) and been met with blank or even angry looks every time. If anyone else in a college classroom shares my views they remain voiceless because they do not desire such treatment.

I have to say that Neal is absolutely correct by the picture he paints of college students: arrogant, educated to the point of knowing EVERYTHING that the square conservatives do not, and eager to get in line and follow whatever orders the liberal agenda has set forth at that time.
"Newly-minted" is a great way of describing them, it conjures images of some educational assembly line stamping out replicas of pseudo-sentient government drones suitable for service to the state. As it is in our public grade schools as well.

All of this has caused a real lack of motivation for me in my chosen field (journalism) because I have lost all faith in American media and much faith in the greatness of America herself. The direction our college-programmed young graduates will turn this country is seems sadly fixed. It doesn't seem like enough people will wake up or stand up to change this.
  • ALLLRIIGGHT!!!
FINALLY THAT 4 YEAR COLLEGE DEGREE IN GOVERNMENT PAYS OFF!(and my parents and friends said it was a waste.WHO'S LAFFIN' NOW ALL YOU DOCTORS,LAWYERS,MBA'S,ENGINEER LOOSERS! (there is no hope for US when the gov. employees outnumber the private sector and its there now)
  • Future leaders?
Leaders have ideas of their own and the means and perseverance to convince others to follow suit. These graduates obtained their degrees by regurgitating the professor's opinions rather than formulating their own thoughts. These are not qualities of future leaders, but rather a disaster in waiting. Once they have the power of government behind their resumes, there will be no stopping their egos as they feel entitled to respect and deference from years of government service (whatever that means). When these idiots are all that's left, we're screwed.
  • This doesn't surprise me one bit...
Liberals have been out there in the education system and other community groups for decades pushing radical new "re-education" programs. They are essentially brainwashing our children through the government education system. This is no joke either. They actually have operatives that are involved in community groups that indoctrinate parents and teachers. I have actually heard this from the mouth of someone involved in this. She said that they actually have manuals out there that teach the operatives how to infiltrate certain community groups and target the "intelligent" thinkers in their respective groups. She said that in one hour she could change someone from being a Conservative Christian to being a Liberal Atheist. This is only part of their agenda though. The agenda is slightly different depending on the groups they are working with. There are hundreds of these people out there that have infiltrated our communities and are brainwashing the masses. She said that when she first started into the program she herself resisted, but then she accepted it soon after. It is a systematic reprogramming of our society. It is all part of the New World Order. They are out there in force and they have an agenda.
  • What now?
I would like to know what Neal Boortz and the rest of the non-parasitic culture suggest us freedom-loving Americans do? The peaceful election process we used to hold dear as a shining light on a hill is corrupted by the guilty human reaction that anyone who exists in this country by any means necessary has the right to take part in. I no longer have any faith in elections in this country. Not because of a few Black Panthers, but because there are no checks and balances of those participating in the election process. The battle of hearts and minds is being lost to political correctness. Yet, every day, Neal attacks the GOP for not having any ideas while the "progressives" rant on and on with the petulance of a two year old about what they want. Conservatives tell them "no" as a respectable parent would do and get insulted for having no original ideas of their own and are now labeled as the party of "no". Do you need new ideas if your long-held existing ones are morally sound? I am not speaking to the religious right or the self-degrading left.
Is it time the GOP scraps the platform and start over under the philosophy of The Oath?
I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man,
nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine.
  • Summer School
The kid who got the note form President Obama to excuse her absence must be in Summer School. Go figure.
  • well put it this way...
Even if you work for say Countrywide, Bank of America or Government Motors or even companies dealing with the stock market....at this point you will be a government worker. It is directly because Bush signed the first bailout bill which gave Chairman Teleprompter and the Federal Reserve the unchecked power of lawlessness that it has now. Always remember Komrad Bush and Chaorman Teleprompter are a tag team duo, it is logically and intellectually imposibble and dishonest to mention Obama's horrendous policy without mentioning Bush. I think people are waking up to the fact that Obama is simply Bush part 3 but with empty charm.Lets wake up conservatives, we haven't seen traditional conservatism at work in this country for at least 16 years.
  • You are missing something
Almost every college out there forces liberal ideas up their students buttocks. I am amazed how liberally biased the schools i went to were and how i turned out conservative. Not to mention the reason why all these schools are doing so bad is because they are run by liberals who spend spend spend.
  • Giving 'Back'
Fine. Being that they were 'given' an education, now they can shed their guilt by working for the government, er, the taxpayers, for FREE.
  • Giving Back
The most powerful way to give back is to become a key, productive employee, or better yet, start your own company, and grow it to bring jobs, products or services, and general wealth to your community. Not work in government or as a community organizer.
BTW, the most effective charitable people I know are successful business people who can afford to take some time off during to cook for the homeless, organize free tutoring at inner city schools, etc.
  • Going Galt
People don't want to believe it, but Ayn Rand's words are coming true. As I said yesterday, I have told my kids to make sure that they can do their jobs at least in Spanish, and better in Spanish and Portuguese. The Latin American countries are forming and improving trade relationships with China.

As for me, I am learning Mandarin Chinese because China will emerge from this economic doldrum as the "big kid on the block".
