I think he should be sentenced to being a Wal-Mart greeter and cart-retrieval person in Little Havana (Miami) with only two 15 minutes breaks during an 8 hour shift, 7 days a week.

Come On; overturn his sentence, release him, and name public libraries, public schools and highways after him. After all, he was just following the example set by the past 40+ years of Congress with Social Security.

Actually, I don't he should be in jail. I think, if he's going to rip off the capitalist system, he can spend the rest of his life living like a darned communist. Make him work for minimum wage for the rest of his life, living in a crummy apartment in a bad neighborhood with a battered TV and having to ride the subway to work. Any money beyond rent and food goes to his victims.

The theft by Madoff is miniscule compared to the retirement dreams of millions snatched away by the US Government. Yet, no one will be held responsible or spend any time in jail.

Madoff's sentence should be to Head Social Security
Yup, during the numerous years Bernie ran his operation, he paid investors their principal and interest when demanded. He did what he said he would do... provide a steady 10%-12% return on deposited capital that he duped from his "investors". When the market dried up and investor capital was no longer flowing in, he saw that the jig was up and confessed his scheme to his family and turned himself in.
On the other hand, "investors" don't have any choice but to "contribute" to the biggest Ponzi Scheme in history...The Social Security System.
Ole' Bernie made his system work for years... maybe his sentence should be to manage the operations of a really grand rip-off scheme... the Social Security Administration!

Justice delayed is justice denied!
Today a 71 year old man will be sentenced to life in prison. WOW. Madoff was been living well off of these ill-gotten gains for decades and now he'll spend probably will spend the next decade or so behind bars! Blame this one on the inept SEC and lax enforcement in the Justice Department.

...should be front page for a week, but it may not even make it for more than a day. Madoff did more singlehandedly to destroy American's confidence and reliance on Capitalism and Market economics than anyone. His actions along with those of Enron and a slew of others has shaken individuals' to a point where they seek more regulation as the answer to these types of problems. They want the assurance of a secure retirement and they are slowly turning towards the Gov to provide that for them. The damage this undermined confidence has caused in incalculable. After all, why invest on Wall Street if they're all crooks!? Thanks Bernie. You've done as much to destroy America as any terrorist could have. Maybe we should drop your ass in remote Afganistan with nothing to wear but papal robes...
Both Madoff and our government are guilty
I believe Madoff should be convicted. But why is our own government getting away with stealing our money? Convict slobbering Barney and others as well.
