If you have been following the news for the last week, you will know that Iran held presidential elections.  Running up to Election Day, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was neck-and-neck with his challenger Mir-Hossein Mousavi.  Then when Election rolled around, Ahmadinejad apparently won the election with 62.6% of the vote compared to Mousavi's 33.7%.  Another four years of the mad mullah.

Looks like something fishy has happened here, Ahmathimgamabob had nowhere near that kind of a lead going into the voting.  The Iranian people smell an Islamic rat.  Street protesters have been demonstrating all weekend over the surprise defeat of Mousavi, who says that he has been the victim of "fraud" and "manipulation."  Iran's supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khamenei says that Iranians should accept the results of the election as a "divine assessment."  (We have their "divine assessment) in a silo on a nuclear submarine in the Indian Ocean.)

Ok, is it really tough to figure out what has happened here?  The only thing that Ahmadinejad cares about is power.  In that sense he's not all that different than most of the people who serve in our own congress.  Do you think that he was actually going to let a silly little thing like a general election get in the way of that?  No way.  Not with Hugo Chavez by his side and America eagerly waiting to appease him.

Makes you appreciate the integrity of our election system, doesn't it?

What others are saying

  • Iran erect, er, election
Can't they do like we do, and have their Supreme Court pick a republikkkan?
  • Where is the lord of democracy
Why wasn't Jimmy Carter overseeing this election? God knows how much the Iranian's respect him.
  • Hey Stan?
You, of course, can substantiate that asinine claim about weapons Reagan gave them? If your beloved Jimmy Carter hadn't stabbed our ally, the Shah, in the back, it wouldn't even had been an issue....So Stan, do you believe your BS? We sure don't
  • Iran in Chaos
Where was Jimmy Carter et al. when the Irianians voted. I suppose that they thought that such a free and open society could hold a free election that
be without a chance of having any irregularities.
  • pre-election Polls completely unreliable
The pre-election polls were completely unreliable. There's a nice comparison of over a dozen pre-election polls at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_presidential_election,_2009#Opinion_polls); they're all over the place, from 2:1 for Ahmadinejad to 2:1 against. The organization "Terror Free Tomorrow" had Ahmadinejad up 34% to 14% with 27% undecided (and the other 25%??). It would seem that within Tehran, it certainly was a close race; but for the rest of Iran, it was no-contest.

James Taranto of the WSJ notes that it's probably better that Ahmadinejad is in power, because it's better to have someone in office you know you cannot trust than someone in office who talks nice, but is probably up to the same crazy stuff.
  • Election
I copied a page from the US election of B.O....
  • It's Not Ahmadinajad (SP?)
The Supreme Council rules the country. They probably figured if they allowed the other guy to win that may have a more moderate voice, than Iran would be seen as losing face in the Middle East. This the massive fraud.
  • #IranElection
Follow postings from Iranian insiders on twitter - trending topic #IranElection. They are posting details, pics, and videos that 5 years ago would never have been seen. Reveloution in the making?
  • reversal
Actually, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently changed his mind, and declared that there would be an investigation into claims of voter fraud. This task of investigating will fall to the Guardian Council, who approved the presidential candidates
  • counting
It takes us months to finalize Montana and Iran manages to count 35 million PAPER ballots?

    sure
  • Both suck
Either one will have a trigger on the weapons Reagan politely gave them for holding hostage Americans
  • I wonder if..........................
ok. call me goofy if you want but do you think that acorn had anything to do with the elections in iran?

I have another name for the muslimnutbag that just won(?) over there.

    I'M INNA A MOOD FOR A JIHAD

    how does that get ya?
  • Ahmanutjob isn't a mullah, he's just a mullah puppet.
He doesn't tie his shoes without the mad mullahs' approval. Iran is a oligarchy.

Our msm skews our election results more than the mad mullahs' 12.6%. How messed up their elections are doesn't make me feel any better about ours. Maybe if the obvious fraud cases like Frankin's are shut down I'll sleep better.

Shouldn't we be arming these rebels? What's good for the goose, and all that.

John, that's a paraphrase of a stalin quote.
  • Iranian Election
"It doesn't matter who votes. It matters who counts the votes." I remember reading that somewhere. I think it may be applicable here.
  • Our elections...
have integrity? Perhaps they did 200 years ago.
  • IRAN IN CHAOS
Obozo didn't let the Constitution get in his way when he refused to produce a valid birth certificate. :)
  • Iran Election
I don't understand why we think this election in Iran would matter. It doesn't change the Supreme Leader Khameni. It only changes their domestic policies and economic priorities and I would argue even that is limited by their Parliament. President BO can hold out his hand all that he wants, it's up to the Ayatolla as to whether it gets slapped or caressed.
  • Iranian (s)election
Just when you thought that the "democratic" process was about to initiate a surprising change of events and some light on world politics, a "divine assessment" occurs! (does that mean that democracy is the antithesis of divine assessment??....I doubt it!!) However, the recent Iranian (s)election does prove one thing: democracy is at the mercy of dictatorship. Mock-Mood Ock-Ma-Den-Ni-Jod has shown the world that he will roll with the masses on the rails of change, but only when he's the conductor and has the derailment switch at his disposal. Personally, I don't think it's all that much of a surprise of the outcome. If Mousavi had a lead of 97% to 3%, the outcome would have still been the same. Perhaps there's a silver lining from all of this: the outcome just proves that the little "Iranian Hitler" is capable of displaying his corruption and thirst for power on a world scale. On a side note, if Israel had any plans in the works to deal with this man, the outcome just solidifies their need to go ahead and move forward with them.
  • the Iranian election
Suddenly, I wonder/worry about what will happen in 3.5 years in the United States. Assuming the media is still in love with Obama, and he continues with his obstructionist and intimidation tactics... will we be looking at a similar scenario in Ohio, Iowa and Pennsylvania in November of 2012?
  • Iran
Send Jimmy Carter over to Tehran. Then they can have an independent person certify the vote.
  • Iranian vote
Farsi is the main language of Iran. I would like to know the Farsi equivalent of ACORN.

I wonder if BHO sent our ACORNers over to Iran. This seems to be a very successful use of `community activism'.

There will probably be no lawsuits either.
  • Iran Election
Where was Jimmy Carter during all this?
  • Who cares
For years I have been wondering why so many people pay attention to the 'president' of Iran. The Iranian 'president' holds no real power. The Supreme Religious Council runs the country period. Policies of the 'president' are the policies of the council, nothing more or less. The 'president' would have far less influence and percieved power if the media would call him for what he really is and focus on the Council.
  • Imadinnerjacket
    (love that name)

Now, who would have thought it possible that he would play games with the votes! BUT the true rulers, the mullahs like him, so Mousavi might as well give it up to the American Idol Iranian.

    Gee, this sounds familiar....
  • This is easy to figure out....
Ahmadinejad is a Democrat. All he needs to do is sue for his win in American courts after Sotomayor is seated....that will assure his victory. Outside of that he can make the lecture circuit with Al Gore and milk the warmers.
  • Not our election
Ahmadinejad is the better candidate anyway.

From a worst case scenario standpoint, the Israelis say that Iran wants to nuke them which is not the evidence from our CIA. Netanyahu has publicly stated that if they were to be attacked, Israel would nuke Rome and other major cities for a scorched earth policy.

Who is the real enemy here?

  • Iran in Chaos
What is making me scratch my head on this, is that you have all of these people rioting about a guy who has no real power. Did the Iranians just find out that they are in a Totalitarian Theocracy rather than a Democracy? There are 13 people in charge in Iran... 12 on the Guardian Council plus the Supreme Leader of Iran. And that guy is not Achmadinajad.
  • Iran Election
So where's Jimmy Carter certifying this election when you need him>
  • Where was Jimmah?
WHere was Jimmy Carter. He always attends foreign elections to ensure they are held and counted correctly. Why was he not there to verify the vote. Jimmah, where were you?
  • Iranian Elections are a joke
It doesn't matter if the so-called reformist would have one, the Iranian president is a figure head taking the cues from the Ayatollah. The only to truly change Iran is to get rid of the Islamist in charge, and that will take more than throwing rocks and burning buses.
  • Let's get hypothetical
Voter unrest in Iran amid accusations of the election being fixed?

Does anyone think for one moment that the situation wouldn't have been the exact same here, perhaps even worse, had John McCain somehow won last November? Just a thought....
  • Electoral Process
    Where was Jimmy Carter?
  • "Elections" in Iran
So just how soon will it be until Mir-Hossein Mousavi suffers a "tragic accident" that of course will be called "allah's will"?
  • Have no fear
Obama is sending Jimmy Carter over to verify the results.
  • Which election system integrity are you talking about?
The one where O!ne of the candidates deliberately disabled all verification checks on his donation website, allowing 35 million plus in illegal donations from foreign nationals like Hamas? The one where his supporters showed up at polling places armed with clubs, and the Justice Department refused to prosecute because the perps were black? Or maybe the one where his old comrades in arms from ACORN were allowed to keep registering voters even after credible fraud charges in 14 states? and are being allowed to "conduct the Census" to determine who gets to vote in the future, under direction from the White House?

Our electoral process is corrupt on a scale that turns a piker like Ahminadinnerjacket green with envy.
  • Iran
And you know who couldn't be happier?
    President God.

He'll dick around with Ahnadinejad just long enough to allow the nuclear bombing of Jerusalem, and THEN, after laughing into his sleeve, He'll send out a stern 'warning' to Iran.
  • I wish I had your sense of humor
Ahmathimgamabob. Neal you truly are a funny guy.
  • Iranian voter fraud
Do you think ACORN has branches in Iran?
  • Did you really say;
"Makes you appreciate the integrity of our election system, doesn't it?"

    One word for you Neal,

    ACORN
  • iranian riots
    1-15 photos
    http://www.upi.com/News_Photos/News/Post-Election-Riots-in-Iran/2007/1/
  • Iran Election
The same election fraud took place in the Minnesota Senate election. It does happen here.
  • Just send Jimmy Carter over there. He'll get it sorted out.
  • Tick..tick..tick...
Sounds like they need one of those 'special birthday cakes' with some C-4 packed inside. C'mon, how hard is it to get rid of this little Topo Gigio wannabe? The Iranaians need to use their imaginations. Isn't there a Stinger sitting around waiting for a target of opportunity? The man flies all over the world. Somebody turn the lights out on this guy and do everyone a favor. Then there's the little creep on Pyonyang...
  • Iran election
From what I have found out the person elected in Iran is not who is running the country. He or she is just a puppet of the Imam's that really run Iran. Also all the opposition is in the same league as the current president so any change wouldn't mean anything.
  • Makes you appreciate the integrity of our election system, doesn't it?

are you serious? that makes me think that your as dumb as those people who couldn't figure out the new digitized TV.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3hUPP_bdOo
  • Ahmadinejad isn't the problem
Ahmadinejad or whoever the Iranian president may turn out to be, isn't the problem. The Iranian president is the puppet of the Guardian Council. As unruly as Ahmadinejad has been, he is just their mouth piece and doesn't make policy on his own initiative.
  • computerized voting machines
iran has got some money. maybe they've got some computer voting machines. its like in the old days of computer programming: garbage in; garbage out.

i'm not saying that our elections have been tainted. no way (wink wink nod nod)
  • Election Results
"Makes you appreciate the integrity of our election system, doesn't it?"

    Neal - I couldn't agree more.

    Senator Al Franken
