Need Glimmer
To reference Andy, Reed Timmer..aka Need Glimmer, is not the "cool one" on the show, he's the moron of the bunch. Out of everyone on that show, he is the only one who is constantly putting himself in needless danger for the thrill of it all. His antics nearly cost the discovery channel one of their camera vehicles last year while Need panicked screaming at the car to back up because he got them way to close to a tornado so he could put a video camera similar to his bubble cam on the ground where it got absolutely worthless video so he could make money off of it.
Need is an attention freak and goes to great lengths to get it. The guy nearly got his own girlfriend killed because the car she was in, along with other people, fell behind in an HP supercell and through blind luck didn't get hit by the tornado that barely missed them.
Charles Doswell and many other well respected chasers have denounced this "exteme" chaser as the hack that he is even as far back as 2005 when he had to be rescued while "chasing" Hurricane Ike. Not only did he put his and his crew's life in danger, Need, a supposedly professional meterologist who should know the risks, then put the lives of his rescuers at risk since they needed to come get him. He is the quintessential storm chase yahoo who brings a bad name to chasers and is likely to get himself, and others with him or who emulate his actions killed.
Need Glimmer is a moron....he's in it for the adrenaline rush and is a blight on the chasing community....there is nothing cool about him.
tornado
weak
Jackasses
These guys are total idiots! They pop a boner over something that can destroy property and potentially kill people. It's a tornado...it causes harm to others. These morons are so hung up on themselves that they've lost all sight of that. Embarrassing.
tornado chasers
Reed Timmer and those in tornadovideos.com are not the first people to be inside a tornado.
Anybody remember last year's tornado at the Little Sioux camp for Boy Scouts in Iowa? Two storm chasers found themselves inside a tornado as well.
truly an ass-puckering moment
Such rash speculation...
Wow. Sure are lots of experts here with all kinds of opinions. How many of you have actually done real storm chasing, let alone been inside a tornado?
Here's a thought: Long ago, we thought that it was a good idea to open windows in a house before the tornado hit. We learned through experience that wasn't true. Long ago, we thought that being inside a tornado meant certain death. Apparently, that isn't true either. Can you die inside a tornado? Sure. Just like you can die emulating every other crappy driver going down the road. But it sure isn't any doomsayer's guarantee.
Tell you what. Unless you have actually done these things and have the experience to back them up, your opinions are speculative at best. Kinda like PresBO's thought that his stimulus spending will save us all.
Take it from someone who's been chasing storms for 20 years. If I had been killed doing it, I sure as hell wouldn't be around now to be so obnoxious.
They are not as stupid as you all think.
Guys this is Reed Timmer, he is the cool one on the Discovery Channel's Storm chasers. They have built an intercept vehicle to do just this. You can go to their website tornadovideos.net and learn more. This is the tornado that the OVERHYPED weather channel Vortex 2 Project was so happy that they finally got one on radar. But Reed and his team got inside it, and by the way this is not their first for the season. And to answer the guy talking about it being a roping out tornado barely registering, Those guys have posted the wind speed readings on their sight also with a peak at 155 mph.
You say tornado, i say tornahdo
From what I read, they also had a 150mph constant wind reading during this, which is equivelant to a F3. Sure its crazy, but it makes them happy, doesnt hurt anyone.
Wow interesting
I WISH I had a video of the time we drove right into a rainbow. It was touching the hood of the car when we passed through.
"Sphincter Factor Nine, Captain!"
Watching videos of tornadoes is fun. Watching tornadoes is super-scary...
stupid is is stupid does
you don't have to be a redneck, don't have to be from a particular part of the country or have a particular accent to be an idiot.
ppppfffffft
by the time they intercepted this "tornado", it was already in what I believe is referred to as its "rope stage", which means it barely registered as a F0 tornado (42-70mph). Nothing incredible, really
Hey y'all! Watch this!
I believe that scientists have to take risks in order to do great things...sometimes. However, this didn't seem quite as much like science as it did rednecks seeing if they could activate their life insurance policies.
What are a rednecks' last words? "Hey Y'all! Watch this!"
how powerful
by the time they got close, it didnt seem very powerful. no busted windows, no car picked up and thrown hundreds of feet, hell, it didnt even knock the car over...
Putting them back together again
assumes we can find all the pieces-parts.
dumbasses
Do any of these dumbasses have any kind of health insurance? Probably not so when one or more of them are seriously injured doing something this stupid it will be up to the taxpayers to pay to put them back together.
What were we supposed to see?
They chased a tornado, then when it got really close, they cut to a "Roof Bubble Cam" that was looking sideways and not up? So all we saw was their radio antenna and light rolling around?
Dumb luck has denied Darwin his due
Since I didn't see a whole lot of science going on...
Why are there no "shark chasers" in business?
Idiots
That video will likely result in someone getting killed through emulation.....
