... that's not very surprising to hear, I'm sure. But what you may find surprising is that he supports her without having read a single one of her opinions. He knows not WHY he supports Sotomayor, but he boasts to the media that she has "the whole package." Here's what Harry had to say in response to a question about one of Sotomayor's opinions:

I understand that during her career, she's written hundreds and hundreds of opinions. I haven't read a single one of them, and if I'm fortunate before we end this, I won't have to read one of them. But -- I'm not familiar with that opinion, but there will be plenty of time for people who are concerned about the Second Amendment -- and there are lots of people on the Judiciary Committee who are concerned about it -- they'll have lots of time to offer her questions and she'll proceed to answer them. But I don't know anything about that.

Would somebody please explain to me how our Senate Majority leader can get away with admitting that he doesn't plan to read a single one of Sotomayor's opinions before voting for her? This begs the question, if Harry doesn't understand how Sotomayor interprets the law, what is he basing his support on? Is he supporting her simply because Obama nominated her? Well, Obama is a Democrat, therefore he will follow like a sheep ... not offer any sort of intelligent reasoning as to why he may or may not support Sotomayor?

Oh yeah .. there's that "whole package" bit. What a way to support a Supreme Court nominee.

What others are saying

  • Reid's support of Sotomayor
Why would you expect Reid to read her decisions? Like much of Congress, he does not read the bills he passes, so why bother educate himself about a Supreme Court nominee. I'm sure he's too busy plotting the Socialism of America to be bothered with such a petty responsibility as making an informed decision.
  • Begging you to get a PROOFREADER
I'm glad others called you on your misuse of 'begs the question'. Just because it's a common mistake these days doesn't mean you have to join in. Use 'raises the question' instead.
  • why are you so suprised.......
any politician saying anything at any time is always suspect.

their purpose in life is to gain control over people and their money.

    you don't matter!

she will make sure of it!

you can bet on it kommrad!
  • Prince Harry's Re-election
Don't forget who was out raising campaign funds for Harry Reid just last month? What do you want to bet he also gets that 100 million for Clean Energy Summit? The voters have short term memory - it doesn't matter what stupid thing you say if the advertising is slick. 2010 will be an interesting election year.
  • Senators read???
Since when does any senator read anything before they vote on it?
  • 2nd Amendment
If anyone cares about the 2nd Amendment they need to join the NRA. They carry a lot of weight in The Congress at the moment and are our strongest alli in strengthening our 2nd amendment rights. Don't let our rights fall to the way when the latest crisis pops-up. As you all know, when they want to push something through The Congress they create a crisis to smoke & mirror it's way through with no opposition from the people. Stay aware and stay involved people!
  • The dp in the senate didn't need to look at the evidence with wild bill's impeachment either.
Like Sotomayor's supremacist views, it's fun to point out, but won't really matter in the end.
  • Harry Reid
    It's simple. He can't read.
  • incompetent
None of these career politicians read anything before they vote. If they don't vote in lock-step, their bid for re-election doesn't get the necessary funding from their respective parties, which is why term limits is a must.
  • Typical
I think it's pretty clear that every move, every bill that passes, etc., the only thing taken into consideration is political expediency and what the move will do to continue their power or enhance their power.

As if even of these monkeys read anything. All he needs to know is the following:

    - she's Hispanic (that will look good to garner the hispanic vote).
    - she's a female (although based on the photos alone, it is very difficult to discern)
    - she's a big-time lefty who believes the Constitution is a living, breathing document that can be changed and used to provide "justice" (The lib's definition of justice)
  • Who cares about the Second Amendment?
The most telling part of his quote is this: "...there will be plenty of time for people who are concerned about the Second Amendment...". The clear implication is that he personally does NOT care about it.
  • Those who cares about the second ammendment??
The most telling part of his quote is this: "...there will be plenty of time for people who are concerned about the Second Amendment...". The clear implication is that he personally does NOT care about it.
  • Joyce
I agree with you, Joyce. And, according to Waxman, scientists are now writing bills.

Not to worry. Reid is up for reelection in 2010. I'm sure Obama will go on NBC and tell us what Harry meant to say, as he did for Sotomayor.
  • All liberals are alike
Typical of a democrat to blindly follow the party line. Democrats are lightning fast to call conservatives "conservobots," "Bush-bots," and such names implying a mechanical devotion to the cause.
But meet a liberal and you can already be assured he/she is: pro-choice, anti-gun, trying to stop global warming (in the myriad of ways they think will help), pro-gay marriage, anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-Limbaugh, in love with Obama. I could go on and on.

What it comes down to is, as read makes abundantly clear, the issues do not matter. It's about keeping the all the power on your side and showing an unthinking unity against the opposition.
  • No surprise
No suRprise that Reid supports this. He has Pied Piper Syndrome.
  • Supreme court support
Wish it were only the Democrats who were smoking Obama's wacky weed but Rush Limbaugh said he might actually support her if she were pro-life. What happened to supporting the Constitution.
  • I wonder....
I wonder what would happen to a Politician that used Prince Harry's reasoning for NOT support her. Imagine - I haven't read one of her opinions, and I hope I don't have to read any of them. She doesn't have the "whole package" and that is why I am not supporting her." Now what do you think the media response would be to that? I am sure it would be glossed over just like Reid's. Riiiiiiggggggggghhhhhhhhttttttttt!
  • package
(Shrug) I dunno, but I think I may have decoded all of this. Reid's reasoning may be that Sonia Sotomayor does have the 'whole package' and if so, I think Harry Reid wants it back. May explain why Harry sounded so much like Mickey Mouse when he delivered that line, as well.
  • support without intelligent input
Harry Reid is the perfect Democrat. He has total support for Sotomayor, without having read a single opinion.
This is the perfect example of "Doing things smarter". Without any research or knowledge, he has total understanding of her past. This means that he is basing all of his actions on feelings, rather than judicious and intelligent thought.
Does it amaze anyone that he didn't read the stimulus package before he rammed it through the Senate?
Democrats, claiming to be intelligent, do not THINK, reason, or research. They simply follow their leaders because they are told to do so.
    Shameless, absolutely shameless.
  • Reid is an embarressment to the Democratic party
    And that's saying a lot!
  • Harry Reid....Obama's Waterboy
As long as Harry gets to play politician, he'll carry Obama's water. He comes running when Obama tells him to mix up the Koolaid flavor of the day
  • hooked on phonics for harry
How the msm can let ANY politican get away with such an ignorant comment is amazing but I forgot, he works for the amazing, now new and improved, more tolerant muslem,Barack Hussan Obama. But maybe Harry just can't read very well so I'm sending him my kids old copy of "hooked on phonics" so he be embarassed no longer.Soon he will be smarter than a fith grader.
  • "begs the question"
You're far too smart to misuse "begs the question!"
Otherwise, keep up the great work--
  • Read?
I'm beginning to wonder if anyone in Washington can read anything - except teleprompters!

I can't wait to hear the twists and turns everyone up there takes when it's campaign time.
  • It doesn't "beg the question"
I agree with you--Harry Reid is an idiot and parades it proudly... but that doesn't beg any [expletive] question! "Begging the question", or in Latin petitio principii, is arguing in a circle, assuming what you're supposed to be proving. Weren't you an attorney before you got honest work? Surely somewhere along the line you studied rhetoric, and hence should know better.
  • Hasn't read WHAT ?!?!
I'll bet dingy Harry hasn't read most of the bills he votes on in the Senate, especially the $787 Billion Spendulust Bill. So why change tactics now?
  • Harry Reid
I'll bet he's reading up REAL QUICK on her rulings over shady desert land deals though.
Reid's the perfect Senator for a desert state; his head is as hard as the Hoover Dam and he's a bigger a$$hole than the Grand Canyon
