Today the House is going to vote on this Cap and Trade - more accurately called "Cap and Tax" climate change scam. Any idea as to how big this bill is? Try 1,201 pages. [pdf] Any idea how many members of the House have read the darn thing? Try zero. Yeah, we are talking about a bill that is going to cost us $845 billion over the next 10 years ... and not one House member has read the entire thing.

If you had $845 billion of your own money on the line, do you think you would be combing through this thing tooth and nail? You betcha. But it's the taxpayers ... it's your grandchildren that will eventually suffer. So the House is willing to sit back and let it pass, and the government educated voters out there wouldn't know the difference.

What's happening tomorrow in Hollywood? What movies are coming out this weekend or what sports teams are playing? I bet you the average American can give you a 1,201 dissertation on these questions. Ask them what their Representatives in Congress are doing today ... passing a $845 billion Cap and Tax bill ... brook trout. I guarantee it.

Here's where the government schools and our wonder bread and circuses culture really come in handy for the political class. As with most of the other things they do, this is about power. Power over your pocketbook. Power over your life. They're going to take a naturally occurring function of everyday life and tax it. Well, more accurately .. they're going to lay claim to something that is essential to human life, something that is essential to the very operation of our economy, and then they're going to sell it to us. Believe me, if these same power-hungry cretins could lay claim to the very air that we breathe, and then sell it back to us, they would do it.

It takes a profoundly ignorant American to not realize that this bill is going to increase their cost of living by a fairly good clip. If you listen carefully the politicians have been admitting it ... and they feel free to do so because they by-God know that the people are not listening. Americans have been so sucked-in by this phony global warming scam that they will accept almost any solution the politicians throw at them. Now you understand why it was so important that, in spite of the evidence to the contrary, these politicians were able to scare you to death with global warming. Movies like "Day after Tomorrow" and OwlGore's idiotic flick had a purpose. Convince you that the seas are going to rise to cover your house and the sky is going to turn orange if we don't do something fast. Americans bought it, and now for the big government payoff. Billions and billions of new dollars flowing into political slush funds to enhance the power and guarantee the elections of political hacks who don't have the talent to run a freaking hardware store.

What others are saying

  • 6 RINO's Could Have Stopped This
If my math is correct (highly doubtful as I am government educated)then 6 republicans could have stopped this bill.

I think all 8 who voted "yea" should be banned from the party and forced to call themselves liberal theives.
  • tax cap ??
just another damn tax for the democrats to ram down the throats of middle class people, the money will be used to buy votes from illegal aliens and welfare bums.
  • Newt on Cap & Trade
Newt, Ollie North, Hucklebee, and a few others have become professional Obama Bashers. They are BORING!

Boortz, running his mouth unprepared and hung-over is ten times better radio then these gas-bags. They are overplayed, they jump from one conservative talk show to the next. Living Lullabies for people who don't Think or do their own Studying.
  • Too Little; Too Late
Well, Congress pulled a fast one on the American Public. They saw an opportunity in the wake of the masses being tuned in to Jacko's death to get this through. Most of us were sleeping, as usual. Too bad not enough of us woke up. Next year is an election year, folks. Make sure that these fascist, socialist, big government loving, power greedy, anti-individualist pigs are out of D.C.

  • Tax-and-Trade, or Bread & Circus?
A 1.6 trillion tax increase vote on a bill that no one can read - or has read! - sent before congress at 3:09 AM with liberal bribes and selective taxes district-by-district manipulating our economy for the next fifty years, Added to a proposed medical reform method that will cost an additional 1.6 trillion dollars to fix a problem that doesn't exist while destroying a system that does work, added to a Medicare and Medical upcoming system already bankrupt, added to a social security system already bankrupt, all paid for “taxing the rich” to the extent past all that the “rich” could possibly earn in twelve lifetimes ...

But Obama’s ABCNNBCBS offer eulogies and praise for a has-been homohexasexual child-molester who plays plastic surgeon to the gods.

Truly, the new age of bread and circus is upon us.
  • Waxman - Markey Bill
It took me all day to get to Neal Deal - finally found a way around the House and spoke directly to an aide - was particularly anxious to get through when I heard on Hannity that he had changed his vote to yes - but was assured that it was a mistake. I would like to get my hands on the 6 Republicans who voted with the Dems - I hope their constituents get the message to them that they can kiss their jobs goodbye!!! I am hopeful that it will not pass in the Senate!
  • Find yours and vote them out
List of how they voted. I posted all the YES voters on my blog as targets for no re-election, sent an email to Barrow asking him to let his colleagues know what this is going to cost them.

  • H.R. 2454
For something so big and broad, a 3 hour general debate while considering the bill read instead of reading it is a gross abuse of political power.
  • don't read but vote....................
    ok i think we're dumdasses........

  • Their heads will explode!
They can't read it because their heads will explode and besides, Nancy Pelosi will make them sit at the kids table for special events. So 'Change' is ramming bad legislation through so quickly, nobody will have time to ask if the targeted issues will be addressed effectively. Hell, the Republicans did the same thing when they had the majority. It's just happening faster now. But this one, along with healthcare, no chance this is going to be good for the country. It raises taxes on energy providers, auto maunfacturers, any type of industry which burns fossil fuels, and then raises prices and taxes to the end user. And all because someone thinks we'll have cleaner air, water, and create jobs. Wow. Where's Gavin Volaire today? Cramps? Gender reassignment surgery? Yoo hoo, Gavin, it's Mr. Obvious calling...perra!

We are in DEEP trouble here folks, if we could but quit arguing amongst ourselves and work together, we could make a difference. We don't have to agree, except agreeing that no one in Washington represents any of us anymore, no matter what side you are on.

And if anyone throws a "why can't we just..." I'm gonna reach through this computer and ....

  • Re: Conspiracy
It's funny you should say that. I was gettin' some fresh air when it popped into my head that maybe Jacko isn't really dead. Just another wacked publicity stunt of a twisted individual to actually see what people reactions would be to think one was really dead. sort of like looking down from above. Now maybe on the conspiracy side, what perfect timing if the government somehow had part in the scheme because they know that half the country is more concerned about American Idols and enough Jacko fans would be distracted enough long enough for them to ram this bill through. And yeah, maybe just took him out.
    We may never know.
    Hmmmmmmmmm
  • Cmon guys...
Do your Patriotic duty as Americans and pay more taxes. It will make you feel good. The more money you give to the banks and the more power you fork over to the Federal Reserve the better off your family will be. Don't you guys see. This is the American way. You guys don't have plans for your money and you know it. You would much rather give it all to government after all you didn't work for any of it to begin with. You small business owners should know better than anyone that hard work doesn't pay off. Why not just live off the government that would be better for you and your family anyways right?

Wake up people you are living a lie. Your government has engineered this reality for us. Until you realize this you will forever be a slave to the system.
  • I don't see
that ANYTHING we bitch about to our POS representatives is going to change one damned thing. You can e-mail or call your REP until you're blue in the face and they are going to (maybe) tell you what you want to hear or take an undecided stance and then do what ever the hell they want to do.
The only way those morons are going to listen is when we MAKE them listen and I mean by force. It's going to take an armed revolution in this country by the masses (not the dumb ones) to realize we're NOT going to take this lying down.

Get your guns and ammo, your pitchforks, rocks, bricks, shovels, sledgehammers, whatever you can find to inflict serious bodily injury together 'cause that's the only thing that's going to get their attention.

Not one single person read the Patriot Act before it was passed. That was the agenda. Noone was meant to see it before its passage.
  • RE: Club-a-Liberal
Most American's do believe that dumping waste by-products from factories into the atmosphere does have some effect on the environment. Now have the environmentalist/global warming cultists exaggerated the impact? For my children and grandchildren's sake, I hope so.

If allowed to do so, most companies will pollute with abandon. Whether it is dumping toxic waste into suburbs of St. Louis or burning rivers in Ohio or filling in lakes with mining byproducts in Alaska or dumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, companies will do it because it benefits their bottom line to do so. The only way to ensure that companies will not destroy the next generations future, is to make it financially harmful to that bottomline.
  • Can Congress even read?
I wonder how many in Congress read the Patriot Act before they voted on it?
  • Look guys...
We need to give our rulers more money and power. We must ensure that we stay slaves to the system for as long as possible. We should not have any say in the way we are ruled. Our King will have his Cap and Trade because we give our King anything he wants. We are his subjects so why wouldn't we be thrilled to open up our wallets to them. Hey while we are at it I think we should go ahead and just hand over our retirement accounts and we might as well hand over our children to be tagged with RFID chips so that our rulers can track them more easily. While we're at it we might as well get a chip ourselves cause afterall our rulers would never do anything bad to us...
  • H.R. 2454 Cap and Trade (i.e. Crap and Spayed)
    MINORITY VIEWS ON H.R. 2454

    SUMMARY
H.R. 2454 is proposed legislation that if enacted would impose major new costs and expansive regulatory controls over a weak and struggling U.S. economy. If implemented, this legislation threatens to lock the United States into an era of economic stagnation and global decline.

The bill would impose new greenhouse gas emissions standards and efficiency standards across the U.S. economy, create an untested and complex multi-trillion dollar cap-and-trade program, direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Energy (DOE) and other agencies to promulgate a host of new regulations on American businesses and enterprise, and authorize more than a trillion dollars of taxpayer outlays. This bill if enacted would result in a massive expansion of the EPA and other federal regulatory control over virtually all major sectors of the U.S. economy.

If enacted, the bill would impose enormous new direct and indirect costs on U.S. consumers and would have major implications for financial markets and international trade and commerce. The full costs of implementing the bill are not known and the bill was considered and reported by the Committee before cost estimates of all the titles were prepared or made available. While prices for energy and goods and services would rise for virtually all Americans, certain regions of the country will be particularly adversely affected by the legislation. All amendments offered by the Minority to suspend the bill in the event of significantly increased energy prices, including amendments offered by Representative Lee Terry (R-NE), Representative Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Representative George Radanovich (R-CA), were defeated. An amendment offered by Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) that would have required that the costs of compliance be reflected in utility bills, fuel pump bills, and manufactured products and food labels, was also defeated.

Enactment of this legislation will unquestionably cause job losses in the U.S. in the manufacturing, industrial and other energy-intensive sectors, including in those industries that produce globally-traded commodities. The bill would dramatically increase energy costs for energy-intensive industries and put U.S. companies at a competitive disadvantage with foreign competitors in China, India, and other developing countries. While the proponents of the bill contend that an unspecified number of clean energy jobs will be created in the coming years, modeling done to date concludes that the number of jobs lost would far exceed any jobs created. All amendments offered by the Minority, including amendments offered by Representative Fred Upton (R-MI), Representative Tim Murphy (R-PA), Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI), Representative John Shimkus (R-IL), and Representative George Radanovich (R-CA) to protect against high national unemployment or job losses in specific industries resulting from implementation of the bill, such as job losses in the steel, coal, automotive and agriculture industries, were all defeated along partisan lines.

  • I hear ya, JoeShmoe...
Both our Idaho senators are Republican, not much chance they'll vote yes, but I've already told our Rep (not that he'll care) that if he even thinks about voting for this disaster OR National Healthcare, I will do what I can to get him voted the hell out of office. He's a Dem, anyway...the only reason he got elected in THIS state was because the incumbent was a corrupt jerko, and everybody was tired of him.

Not that I have any illusions, mind you...I know this crap is going to get passed...only ones benefitting from this piece of crap are GE and Owl Gore.

I am getting sick and tired of having to email my elected officials 3 and 4 times a week. I've contacted them about 1000% more this year than I have in my entire life.

I'm glad I heat my home with wood...we'd never be able to afford the heating bill that's fixing to be rammed down everybody's throats.

Do we get a refund if global temperatures happen to go down? And what if the lower 48 fully complies with the desired levels that are prescribed...and the average temperature still goes up? Do we charge ourselves for crimes against the planet?

Who get's charged for wildfires? Volcanoes? Solar flares? Meteors?
Did we find some new method to change the overall level of carbon in the world? One cannot "create" Carbon...any more than one can "destroy" carbon...we can only change it's state. (solid, liquid, gas)

If they vote on it...and never read it, shouldn't they be impeached for incompetence/malfeasance?

Directive 10-289 is not far behind...
  • re; joyce ...cap and trade advertising
Radio ads and tv ads have been saturating locally here and they are really pushing the amount of jobs that will be created. With discriptions like"75% increase in new green energy jobs.." and "doubling the number of jobs in the renewable energy field..".This sounds impressive until you realize that there are so few of these jobs to began with that you could triple the number of these jobs its still a joke.Creating a dozen jobs locally(I don't know how many nationally) will not do diddly-squat for the thousand-plus jobs lost or the added millions paid in electricity cost. Most of the people I've talked to about Cap & Trade don't have a clue what it is let alone an opinion or motivation to call their rep. or senator. Its enough to make you just give up and if any of the conspiricy post are even half true then its hopeless.
  • MJ Distraction
I know I'll probably be slammed for saying this, but here's a conspiracy for you ... Maybe the US Gov't killed Michael Jackson to divert attention from this horrible bill in congress. ... ... Just sayin'. I'd not put it past them.

  • It's all about Al Gore worship, Al Gore love.
This bill is nothing more than Pelosi's attempt to suck up to Al Gore. This man is not a scientist and he is not an environmentalist (after all he does fly around in a private jet, and lives in a mansion that wastes more energy than 50 average American homes do). Al Gore is nothing more than a sore loser, a hypocrite, and sad lawyer that is cashing in big time on his "global warming" stories, or now I believe the correct term is "climate change". Oh yeah, how many times was Gore snowed out when he tried to present his "global warming" to some hapless group of people , or college paying him a fortune to hear him bark. If you can't practice what you preach you should not preach that message.

What a great way to help the American economy. Oh yeah, what are we going to do about China? They are the most polluting country today. While we cut back, they pollute more. Will we simply buy compact florescent bulbs that are "Made In China"?

I think you are right, we will start seeing a return of the recession in the spring, maybe next summer. Which is exactly what CBO said would happen if the stimulus bill passed.

    >>>I'm Broke
I will pay more to protect the environment. Neal says it is our grandkids who will pay with taxes, but in truth it is our grandkids who will pay with their health and lives if we keep destroying the environment. I for one am all for giving businesses "incentives" to reduce pollution.<<<<

You are the type of fool that is responsible for something like this bill passing. You are the ones that warmers and the Al Gores out there have been able to scare and actually brainwash you in feeling guilt for not "saving the environment".

Give me a freakin' break. Newsflash, the planet has been around for billions of years and has seen and been through much worse. The arrogance for you to actually think that you have some impact on our freakin' weather is beyond me. Furthermore, the arrogance to think that you can actually change it, even if you did have an impact, is mindnumbing.

    Wake up.
  • voting without reading
It should be law that an affirmative vote for a new law stipulates that you have in fact read the legislation.
  • Get on with it
Ok - we all know that the Grand Pooba and company are going to pass this S&@** so let's just suck it up and get on with it already. The sooner they pass this piece of garbage the sooner we can look ahead to the day when the pain kicks in and folks wise up, and actually repeal the junk.
Face it - we are getting what some of us asked for, and oh what a pain it will be.
  • Economic Suicide
    “grandchildren that will eventually suffer”

Neal, you keep implying that the economic tsunami will wait a couple of decades. That’s just not true. Try 18 months or so. Already confidence in the dollar is declining. We are looking at a replay of the 70’s on steroids, i.e. in stead of an inflationary recession it will be an inflationary depression.

Yes, they have crafted this bill to put off some cost until later but you know they will start chipping away at that in a few months. If it passes the House we can hope it is stopped in the Senate. If not this bill on top of the other third world banana republic economic policies being implemented will deep-six this economy. It’s literally economic suicide.

  • slightly off topic, still tax related, but I CALLED IT!
I've been saying it on here for ever... The government needs to cut wasteful defense spending. We buy crap we don't need because we have companies with employees in nearly every state, and congress votes to extend very expensive projects that are deemed unnecessary by the pentagon, only to keep jobs in their districts. I've been saying it... now here's a perfect example:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090625/pl_nm/us_congress_defense_1

The OMB said it strongly objected to the House decision to include $369 million in advanced procurement funds to buy 12 more F-22 fighter jets built by Lockheed Martin Corp despite a Pentagon decision to halt production at 187.

Some lawmakers are pushing to continue production of the F-22 until a current ban on exports can be lifted to allow Japan to buy a modified version of the premiere U.S. fighter jet. The Lockheed program employs workers in over 40 states
    ---------------------

And Obama is set to veto the bill unless the funds for the unnecessary jets are removed. Thank you, sir, for doing something admirable. It isn't weak on defense (jets that don't get used are not going to defend us) it is smart on money. Now, if you can just find the other 300 billion in waste in defense, we'd be in great shape.

    Cap and Trade sucks, FYI
  • Read the damn bill!

  • Some facts sent to me by a lobbyist in DC
    "Here are the facts:

    1) Three hours of debate on a 1200 page bill.

    2) Only two amendments allowed in order, one is manager's amendment which has the text of the legislation.

    3) Text of legislation (managers amendment) not available until this morning."
  • Global warming and tree rescue
"Save a tree" is an absolute sham, at least here in the USA. Owlgore and his ilk have used it for years to convince US that we are pulling out the trees that prop up the sky and now it is falling! It is a political scam aimed at gaining control. It feeds off the mantra “America is bad, its people are hogs and American Industry is bad; now go hide and feel guilty.”

I have been in printing since 1970 and I have long been amazed at the paper industry and their methods of resource management. Talk to anyone in the forestry business and ask them how logical it would be for them to "rape our forest lands" without replanting, managing their industrial resources. Think about it; how smart would it be for the paper and wood industries to wholesale wipe out all the trees with no plans for the future of their business? How long would their industries last? The past 30 years alone would have wiped out the majority of trees in the US if they had failed to manage their forests. They would have been long gone by now and all the oxygen would have been sucked out of our atmosphere.

It is an absolute verifiable fact that there are more acres under trees today in the lower 48 than when the Constitution was signed. It is true that in some 3rd world countries trees have been scavenged. The Forest Stewardship Council is working on stopping that. Here in America our paper and wood industries have for many years managed their forests, growing healthy trees and planning for their industries future growth. The US version of the FSC is the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

So next time you hear someone saying “don’t print that email… you’re killing a tree and pretty soon there won’t be any more left!” tell them they are ignorant, government educated NUTS.

But then, we need that group of people now don't we, so they can vote Democrats into power? Then the all powerful Dems can give us such idiocy as this Cap and Trade farce.

    God help US.
  • I hope you all have
called and emailed and written your duly elected congressman and expressed your opinion as forcefully as you dare, understanding that the grand and glorious, omnipotent, omniscient and all-powerful federal gub'mint gonna add your name to the "potential terrorist" list. #@$%^&*(!!!!
  • Email/Phone/Fax/Snail Mail your rep
If you oppose Cap and Trade and you have not contacted your Representative to voice your opposition to HR 2454...shame on you.
  • Answer to Club
I think it's all of the above. I myself am getting very tired of fighting it. Every day there is some phone call to be made, some email, some petition to sign, and it feels like we are getting no where. The Looters are not listening.
  • Cap and Trade
Who actually wrote this bill? If congress was only allowed to vote on something they actually wrote we'd have more of something we could all read because it would be written on a 6th grade level.
  • I'm Broke
I will pay more to protect the environment. Neal says it is our grandkids who will pay with taxes, but in truth it is our grandkids who will pay with their health and lives if we keep destroying the environment. I for one am all for giving businesses "incentives" to reduce pollution.
  • Crap and Tax
Unfortunately not enough people in this country question what they see in the mainstream media and even fewer ever contact their representatives to tell them "if you vote for this I will never vote for you again". This is something I have done multiple times and will continue to do.
  • Pertinent Reading
Congressmen have read enough to know that the only known quantity is that more tax revenues will be extracted from the public.

Why should they read further? They got their own interest covered.
  • Cap and Trade Bill
The question is not "Do you think they've even read this thing?" but "Do they even know how to read?"
  • One more thing
    >>>Americans have been so sucked-in by this phony global warming scam that they will accept almost any solution the politicians throw at them<<<

True, we have many drones out there that actually belive this garbage and treat it like sacrilege if you dare say something or do something that isn't "greeeeeeeeeeen".

However, I think the vast majority of people aren't buying this crap anymore. Each poll shows more people seeing that this is a scam. Also, when people are polled on what their main concerns are, global warming is at the bottom.

So, the question is, despite the vast majority against this, how did we get this far that this may pass? Is it apathy by the voter? Ignorance? or maybe not a full grasp of what the consequences of something like this would do to the avg family? or maybe people are so beaten down, that they have no will to fight Washington any more? all of the above?
  • Re: DO YOU THINK THEY'VE EVEN READ THIS THING?
Unfortunately no, most only have a vague idea of what's in the bill (except those who actually stuffed it with pork, and they only know their section.) You can bet that the Liberals will use scare tactics and fear mongering to get it passed (remember how if Congress didn't pass the stimulus bill America was doomed?) That seems to be how this administration gets things done. They're gonna cry wolf, and they're getting everything they want through now before the people wake up and realize there is no wolf, except, y'know, those crying it.
  • Cap & Screw
Just remember half of Americans are more stupid than the average American aaand the average American can only read on a sixth grade level. Remember rape ain't love.
  • Disaster
No one has read it. On the other hand, if I were in Congress, I would vote NO without reading one single page of this garbage. Why on earth would I need to read this crap to know what it is. However, for the ones voting YES, who are making us pay $1 trillion for this scam because of their yes vote, they should be called out and they better have read it. The MSM won't do it. If I were Fox, I would invite one of these guys who voted yes, and then grilled him on the details of this thing to see if he read any of it. Then, after it becomes obvious that he didn't read it, ridiculue and destroy him on air. Tell him, "You are adding another TRILLION to the taxpayer's billfor this bill yet you haven't even took the effort to do the minimum of what your job requires which is read the bill? Are you serious?"
  • Isn't that what cap and trade is really doing??
    Nuff said
  • Cap and Trade Tirade
    WELL SAID NEAL!!!!
  • READ IT
This is one of the most aggravating things that occurs in Washington. And it's considered business as usual! We need a law that no one votes on anything they haven't read.

Anyone want to guess what little goodies are hidden in this one?
  • Re: if these same power-hungry cretins could lay claim to the very air that we breathe, and then sell it back to us, they would do it.
Geez Neal – Don't give them any ideas...
