MIRANDA RIGHTS FOR TERRORISTS?

It turns out that it is true .. the Obama administration has been reading Miranda rights to detainees that are captured and held abroad.  But apparently this isn't new, according to ABC's Jake Tapper.  The Bush administration did so as well "to preserve evidence for a potential prosecution."

Justice Department spokesman Matthew Miller says, "While there have been specific cases in which FBI agents have Mirandized suspects overseas, at both Bagram and in other situations, in order to preserve the quality of evidence obtained, there has been no overall policy change with respect to detainees."

I disagree with the policy, whether Bush's or Obama's.  If the world is so sure that these Islamic goons have Geneva rights, let's give them those rights.  Under the Geneva Convention enemy combatants dressed in civilian clothes can be summarily executed.  No Miranda rights necessary.  "You have the right to stand up against this wall.  We have the right to put a slug in you.  Stand by for your rights."

Yesterday I spelled out for you the "suggestions" and "guidelines" the Obama administration has for executive pay.  These guidelines are meant for executives at any publically traded company.  Are you letting that sink in, folks?  We are talking about the government setting guidelines for how CEOs at private companies will be paid, whether or not they have received bailout funds, TARP funds, fun funds or whatever.   A top counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says, "We believe that compensation practices must be better aligned with long-term value and prudent risk management at all firms, and not just for the financial services industry."  That's what the tax cheat's counselor believes.  I believe the government has no business whatsoever getting involved in how private companies compensate their employees.  The role of the government is to provide a forum where employment and pay contracts can be adjudicated and enforced ... nothing more.

As for companies that have received bailout money, the government's new "master of pay" will be setting the actual specific compensation levels.  You don't have to be government educated to realize that this is going to mean that the brightest and most capable talent out there.  What capable executive wants to work for a private-sector company where government hacks with not one-tenth of his ability will be setting his salary?

Some Democrats are upset.  Any rational person would be upset over the fact that the government will be meddling in the compensation levels of private businesses.  But this is not what they are upset about.  They are upset because they feel that the Obama administration's efforts to reform private sector executive pay haven't gone far enough.

One of those Democrats would be Rep. Brad Sherman of California.  He says that the government's plans to have shareholder's vote on compensation packages should be made binding on board of directors.  In other words, Brad Sherman should write the incorporation by-laws for America's businesses.

Of course, slobbering Barney Frank is another Democrat who believes that the administration hasn't gone far enough.  He says, "I do differ with the administration in that hope springs eternal and their position seems to be that if we strengthen the compensation committees we will do better ... I believe the structure of compensation has been flawed."  In other words, the government can do it better.

Speaking of slobbering Barney ......

BARNEY CAN'T HANDLE THE HEAT

Yesterday Barney Frank was being interviewed by CNBC about these executive compensation levels.  Between all the spit and mumbling, you quickly notice that Barney Frank is really irritated.  After all, he's two damned important to have to stand around and answer to the people.  Another explanation is that he realized he was being bested by the interviewer, Mark Haines of CNBC, and wanted to get the hell out of there.  He knows that he can't rationally explain why the government should be able to set any type of guidelines or regulations on pay levels at private companies.

So Barney Frank, the quintessential void surrounded by a sphincter muscle, throws a hissy fit and declares the interview to be over and rips out his earpiece.  Haines' response, "Fine, goodbye sir. We'll manage without you."  Ain't that the truth.

This one is delicious.

Now that King Obama has decided that it is the government's place to guide private companies to appropriate levels of compensation ... business groups want to know if Obama plans to do the same for labor union bosses.  Katie Packer, executive director of the Workforce Fairness Institute says, "Given that union bosses' job performances have yet to be scrutinized despite numerous, credible reports that they have engaged in 'creative accounting' and have mismanaged and underfunded worker pension plans, while wholly funding their own, is deplorable."

Obama limit union executive pay?  Are you kidding me?  This guy owes his job to these union executives ... they get a pass.  So, the answer to the question is a big, resounding "hell no."  Obama knows who got him elected.  Heck, just yesterday we linked to an article that explained how the labor unions are broke after paying to get Obama elected.  I have a better chance with Angelina Jolie than businesses groups have of convincing Obama to touch labor union bosses.

OBAMA'S MESSAGE IS SINKING IN

With younger generations graduating college and entering the workforce, where are they now turning to for job opportunities?  The government.  Yep, and this is just the way Barack Obama wants it to be.  Wall Street and the private sector are losing their luster, thanks to the economic crisis and the demonizing of wealth, corporations or anything that is deemed "evil" by the liberal media.  So we are producing a generation of government bureaucrats.  They know where the power and prestige is .. and that's where they're heading.

Labor department data shows that employment in Washington has increased since 2008, even though other sectors have lost jobs.  Economist Marisa Di Natale says, "D.C. is the only place where we can point to that is actually adding jobs right now, and we also know that the government is hiring thousands of people to oversee both the (economic) stimulus package and all the associated projects."

Now get this.  The demonizing of Wall Street and the economic crisis are not the only reasons why graduates are turning to the government for unemployment.  There is another reason that Barack Obama would be very proud of: it has because really "cool" to "give back" to your community.  For example, Britini Wilcher (her real name, not a stripper name) is a recent graduate of a college here in Atlanta.  She says, "It's becoming trendy to take your community into your hands and give back, which is a good thing ... People are empowered by the current political climate."

No ... I won't go into my rant on this "give back" crap.  It's just what you would expect from a newly minted college grad.  These new college grads are just the type that would be thrilled by the current political climate.  They're fresh out of school.  Their entire life's experience has been one of a culture of government.  Government schools -- Government universities --  Government employees at every turn telling them what's what and what's not and how the world works ... from the government perspective.  So, when the government grows stronger of course Britini and her ilk are going to feel empowered.

Gag me.  But that is the America we are raising.  These are the future leaders of this country.

If you want to know the real reason why California is in a dire situation when it comes to its budget, look no further than the unions.

Barack Obama says that he has identified hundreds of billions worth of savings in our budget in order to pay for healthcare.  Oh yeah?  Do tell ....
