NEXT UP FOR NATIONALIZATION

On Monday it was General Motors. On Tuesday, the Senate advanced a bill giving the government some controls over the tobacco industry. Let's see what our imperial federal government can come up with today! Oh wait! Almost forgot. There's Citigroup too. And our health care industry. Are you keeping a list out there? Just how much of our economy is going to be under government control, if not ownership, by the end of Obama's first year. The question now is whether to call this guy a fascist or a socialist. He's certainly not a capitalist.

Well ... it's going to be OK, isn't it? After all, we all recognize that the government does a much better job of running businesses and enterprises than the private sector does. Right?

Let's use the insurance industry as an example here. How would things be different if the government were running our life insurance companies? As things stand the life insurance companies have to take premiums and invest them. The object is to obtain a decent return on those investments so that the company will not only be able to make money for its shareholders, but also have enough assets to pay death benefits as they come due. Now ... if the government was running a life insurance company it would set enough money aside in any given year to cover expected claims, and then spend the rest. There would be no investment accounts. An inability to sell new policies and collect new premiums to cover current claims would lead to failure. Sounds good, doesn't it?

I know you're tired of hearing this, but elections have consequences ... as does allowing ignoranuses to vote

GIVE THIS RACISM THING A REST

When the Republicans were in power leftists delighted in screaming "racist" or "racism" every time a conservative made any utterance that was anything less than praiseworthy of any non-white American. The media generally ignored these asinine "racism" claims.

Now that the looters are in power (and how) we find Republicans starting to call leftists racists. The charges of racism from Republicans against Sotomayor are completely absurd. Obama's Supreme Court nominee has said nothing that I can find which would indicate that she feels that any one race is genetically or inherently superior to another. She may have shown just a bit of prejudice or bigotry or prejudice, but no racism.

Sure .. the left could get away with screaming racism at the drop of a hat. Why? Because the media wouldn't call them on it, that's why. A Democrat would scream "racism" and the media would remain silent. It's not going to be that way when a Republican calls a leftist a racist. The media is going to howl.

Due to rampant misuse the word has no meaning any more. So give it a rest. You're just giving the Obama-infatuated media something to use against the right.

Finally, later yesterday afternoon, the media came around. At least, some of the media. Finally we get headlines identifying this Army recruiter shooter as a Muslim. Or more precisely, a "Muslim convert." Overall the media has been pretty mum on the subject. But it turns out that the suspect Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad is a homegrown terrorist. He's a radical Muslim. He attacked the army recruiters earlier this week "because of what they had done to Muslims in the past." It also turns out that this radical lowlife was under investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force after he had traveled to Yemen with a Somali passport.

This means that this goon's attack on those two soldiers outside that Arkansas recruiting center was an Islamic terrorist attack.

Today we're learning that this Islamic goon had a list of other targets he wanted to hit on his computer. How many more like him are there out there? My guess? More than you could be comfortable with.

SOTOMAYOR CLARIFIES

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor spent time on Capitol Hill yesterday meeting with Senators. She decided ... or probably the White House decided ... that this was the right time to clarify her remarks that a "wise Latina woman" could reach a "better" decision than a white male. In a meeting with Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, Sotomayor says that "ultimately" and "completely" a judge should follow the law. She says that what she meant was that people have different backgrounds but that "there is only one law."

Are you buying it? I'm not. This is just the best line of bull she could come up with. There is no way in the world her comments can be morphed into a statement upholding the concept of equal treatment under the law. That concept, by the way, is dead in America. Either way, these Republicans are going to have to decide whether they believe that explanation ... and then give the woman an up-or-down vote.

I'm not going to use that "elections have consequences" line here again.

VOTING IN GEORGIA

Last year, Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel put together a program whereby election officials would use state driver's license databases and match them against voter databases to determine if any illegal aliens participated in the voting process. The process would apply special scrutiny to any person registering to vote who said that they were not a citizen when they got their driver's license. Seems fair, doesn't it? The Justice Department thought so, and the process did indeed find illegal voters.

Well now Barack Obama's Department of Justice has decided that this program is discriminatory. So let the battle begin. Here's what the DOJ had to say for itself:

We have considered the accuracy of the state's verification process. Our analysis shows that the state's process does not produce accurate and reliable information and that thousands of citizens who are in fact eligible to vote under Georgia law have been flagged....

An error as simple as transposition of one digit of a driver[s] license can lead to an erroneous notation of a non-match.....

....Although the state has not provided data on the racial and language minority characteristics of all registrants whose applications went through the verification process, we have been able to compare the composition of those persons whom the state has flagged for further inquiry because of a non-match with both the composition of newly registered voters in the state and the composition of existing registered voters....

[A]pplicants who are Hispanic, Asian or African-American are more likely than white applicants, to statistically significant degrees, to be flagged for additional scrutiny....

So ... what is the Justice Department's beef here? Well, it seems that they're concerned that when Georgia starts to ferret out illegal voters they find more among Hispanics, Asians or Africans than they do among whites! Who would have thunk it? And since Hispanics (for instance) are more likely to be illegal voters than white folks, the entire process must be discriminatory, and therefore illegal.

Get it?

Naturally, Karen Handel is more that peeved that the DOJ has rejected her program for voter verification. So she decided to respond to the DOJ about its rejection:

The decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to deny preclearance of Georgia's already implemented citizenship verification process shows a shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections.

With this decision, DOJ has now barred Georgia from continuing the citizenship verification program that DOJ lawyers helped to craft. DOJ's decision also nullifies the orders of two federal courts directing Georgia to implement the procedure for the 2008 general election.

The decision comes seven months after Georgia requested an expedited review of the preclearance submission.

DOJ has thrown open the door for activist organizations such as ACORN to register non-citizens to vote in Georgia's elections, and the state has no ability to verify an applicant's citizenship status or whether the individual even exists.... Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy.

This is a great article from the Financial Times explaining how Washington blew the bankruptcy of GM all because it wanted to save the unions. What did I tell you?

Here's an intelligent article from Forbes Magazine about how to approach the Sotomayor nomination from a conservative versus a libertarian perspective.

What is Congress going to impose taxes on next? Let's try Internet sales. Well, there is something to be said for leveling the playing field here.

Phyllis Schlafly says that Barack Obama is "remaking America" into a socialist nation. I wonder what her first clue was.

Russia wants a new world currency. So does China. How many Americans can even put one minute's worth of cogent thought into considering the circumstances? Maybe there will be a bit about this on Entertainment Tonight.

One of my personal favorite sayings: Somebody's got to cook the French fries. Here's your poster.

The Senate is resurrecting the cash-for-clunkers plan in order to boost car sales. How do you like the idea of your tax money being spent to buy and junk someone else's old car?

Barack Obama called Bill Clinton a "liar" and a "loose canon." Well he got that right, but do we really need to talk about Clinton's cannon any more?

A majority of Americans (54%) do not want to see the detainee prison facility at Guantanamo Bay closed.

Joe Biden admits that "some of this money is going to be wasted," in the spending of a $787 billion economic stimulus package. Don't worry ... it's just your tax dollars.

According to the World Health Organization ... the world is getting closer to a Phase 6 swine flu pandemic. Still trying to scare the pants off of us on this one, huh?

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty will not seek reelection in 2010. He could probably be setting himself up to run for president in 2012.

Is Obama getting tough with Israel for the sake of apologizing to the Muslim world?

A new national poll suggests that one in five Americans have a favorable view of Muslim countries.

GM has an agreement to sell its Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. of China.

Sadly, GM isn't the first company that has been nationalized by the federal government. Here's a look at some other examples in history.

Is China blocking people from accessing Twitter? I wouldn't doubt it.

Here's a no brainer ... fill in the blank: New Orleans is once again the nation's ______ capital. Murder? Parasite? Either would work.
