What headlines am I talking about? Ones like this: "Obama Halves Chrysler's Planned Marketing Budget." Barack Obama, the president of the United States, is now in the business of setting marketing budgets. Tell me, where in the Constitution does it mention this one? Probably right next to the part where it says that he can oust CEOs of private companies.

Here's the deal ... Chrysler wanted to spend $134 million in advertising over the next nine weeks. But Barack Obama's auto task force decided to give them half of that. The sad part about this is that many people are simply excited that the Obama task force would even somewhat recognize advertising as a necessary expense. How sad. In the real world a bankruptcy trustee would make decisions of this type with the approval of the bankruptcy judge. No more, it seems. It's the rule of Obama now, not the rule of law.

What others are saying

  • Great plan...
Obama has yet again shown his complete lack of any understanding of economics in a free economy. Doing less advertising leads to less sales, less income, and BIGGER economic problems.

Or maybe that's what he's going for...
  • makes sense to me
I guess Obama's taskforce gets to decide how much Chrysler spends on marketing because Chrysler is begging for money. If Chrysler were in good financial shape, I think it's safe to say that the government wouldn't try to dictatte how they spend their money. But since it's not Chrysler's money, it makes perfect sense to me that Chrysler has to take some orders on how to spend it.
  • I would STILL like to know at what point do people consider the Fauxbamo administration to be Fascist.
At what percentage of the economy Controlled BY the Government would you people consider them to be Fascist? (or Statist)
Somewhere between 0% [no governmental control] and 100% [complete control].
Clearly the value is above 0%, maybe it's somewhere around 10%-20%, but what is the break point in this determination?
Note: Don't bother with some supercilious argument that since it's not 100%, it can't be Fascism.
  • Re: First President elected by the media?
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.

Obozo's popularity is directly related to how much money he can throw at the looter class in exchange for their adoration and votes.

Partially elected by those looking to Loot from others, partially with fraudulent ACORN votes, and the Media.
  • Steve Boston
first President elected by the media?

    not hardly
  • Obamalaw
We couldn't have picked a worse time in our country's history to have the first President elected by the media. This with strong support from the idolizing, indigent and indoctrinated. President Obamuppet and friends are capable of inducing irreversible damage to our country. God help us.
  • Roberta
I guess they're too busy today to bother with the nuze today.
  • Buying a new car
And well, it will be non-American, unfortunately. I have bought American my whole life... Ford in fact. This year, I am afraid of who is next... Pontiac, Crysler, now GM... who do you think is next???
  • HELLO!!!
    Where is today's NEWZ?
  • Govt Motors
Well it only makes sense - I mean, if we give the government money to build the cars and then give them more to buy one, why shouldn't we also advertise to ourselves? Besides, who better than "The One" to decide exactly how much marketing GM needs to maximize profits? Does he also decide how much toilet paper to stock in GM offices? Or which kind of snacks to put in the vending machines? I'm sure there will be a cushy government job made available to handle these things, so that Obama can spend his term in office setting advertising budgets and capping executive pay. Didn't you people read in the constitution where it expressly gives the federal government authority to decide between Billy Mays and Slap Chop for GM's advertising campaign?
  • Chrysler
Obama is not and cannot (due to his own
personal and political philosophy) be a businessman. Isn't marketing a necessary and vital component of a successful business? I cannot wait to get my Political Science degree so that I can be a businessman.
  • Familiar Headlines
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Eine Obama
  • Obama is just following orders...
Honestly don't hate Obama for this. He is just a puppet. I don't hate Obama and I do not think he is the anti-Christ or any of that mumbo jumbo. He is our punching bag while all of this goes down. We will never meet the men behind the curtain. This is fascist, but we have noone to hold accountable. We will not be able to punish anyone for this cause it was always going to happen. McCain would have done the very same thing. We were screwed by default. The only way this kind of corruption will go away is if we literally overthrow the government. Sad thing is noone has the guts to do it. They are capable of the unthinkable. :(
  • petercat...
Actually Obama seems to be emperor of the planet, when you consider the multitude of countries America has military presence in. Kind of like Rome, and we see how nicely Rome ended up.
  • When did Obama get put in charge of the Judgical system?
Ok, correct me if I am wrong. Obama is the so called Press of the US. Chrysler is in bankruptcy court. Bankruptcy court is run by bankruptcy JUDGES that have to follow the LAWS.

When did Obama get the RIGHT OR AUTHORITY to run the Judgical branch? I always thought we had 3 branchs of goverment for a reason, THIS REASON!
  • The Emperor
Ad slogan for Ford: (while they still can...)

    "It's not Obama's automobile!"

Obama seems to think he is Emperor of the USA. Will we even be able to vote in 2010, or will Congress declare him such and cancel all elections? After all, now that we have the perfect president, why would we even THINK about hiring another?
  • Budget
It's amazing how he can magically cut a private company's marketing budget in half. But he can only find 1/2 of 1 percent to cut out of the government budget. I own a Jeep now which is my 3rd but will never by another Chrysler product again. I'm going back to Ford.
  • who knew....
...that Americans would sit by, and roll over so easily to accept fascism, particularly when their forefathers did not put up with this sort of thing from the British....?

Americans are in the process of giving away what the founders fought to establish....
  • John Wanamaker has his answer in Obama
Apparently Obama knows which half of advertising spending is wasted.
  • The Chrysler Bankruptcy and Who's in Charge
Besides Obama suddenly becoming a marketing genius, the Chrysler "bankruptcy" has sent shock waves reverberating thoughout the serious investment community. As Neal wrote about earlier, secured debt-holders (bondholders) have had their interests in Chrysler slashed while prefential treatment has been granted to junior debt-holders, namely the UAW pension fund.
Bond-based corporate financing may never be the same again.
The Wall Street Journal has a great op-ed piece here today: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124217356836613091.html
  • THE WAIT IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!
    Socialism is here folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Like it or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A.R. II is on the Horizon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The Real Truth
The real truth here is that the current president is exceeding his authority under the constitution. The problem is the concerned people really have no avenue to address this since it would take years to challenge the problems through the court system.

Where is the economic justification for cutting the advertising budget in half? This happens on the local level as well. Florida just decided to raise taxes on a pack of cigarettes by $1. Where is the economic backup for these decisions? Have you ever noticed how rounded the numbers are?

There is no justification, only a bunch of people sitting around a table, not wanting to be there, making a decision that impacts all of us so they can go meet their mistress at lunch.

If we had term limits, this would all change.....but that will not happen.
  • soon
in the coming "fundamental change" of the united states.. advertising will not be necessary.. you do not need to advertise products when you do not SELL them... and if everyone has a RIGHT to a home a car medical care an education and a job.. theres no point to money at all. Come to think of it.. I think Geitner himself said something about money being less important in the near future didnt he?
  • As A Lawyer, Does Neal Know
whether the bankruptcy judge has to approve these funds going forward and not what the task force wants or not want?
  • presidential goals vs powers
We have a dictatorship by PC silence. Can't complain, or you're racist. How does a company make money? It sells product at a modest profit and makes lots of money by selling lots of product. It advertises to sell. Cut the ad budget and you cut sales.
But obama [bot cap on purpose] was likely born in Africa and not legally qualified to be President, but that is just the Constitution. obama was raised in Indonesia and does not feel American in his gutt.
[The question somebody needs to ask-- "mr. obama, is your grandmother a liar when she says she was in teh hospital in Africa when you were born? and the followup-- "Why have you spent so much money keeping your birth certificate secret?"
Maybe somebody can type an answer into the Teleprompter and he'll know what to say.
  • Obama=Fascist
It is getting harder and harder to believe Obama is not actually trying to (economically) destroy this country and rebuild it as an genuine socialism. He may not in reality be the incompetent fool I thought he was. Maybe he is a twisted genius. I am truly frightened. God help us all.
  • Hitler created Volkswagen
Obama is just following in the footsteps of his national socialist hero, now that he's created Chryslerf$#@k. So what else is new?
  • They can advertise all they want...
and I still won't buy one of their vehicles. I can't imagine what kind of garbage is going to roll out of there and at what price.

The Fed screws up anything it lays its hand to...I'm gonna spend THAT much money on something that UAW and the Fed had a hand in creating? No way, Jose...

I am grateful I live in Idaho...I read our Constitution yesterday...if Obama thinks he can force me into buying one of his pieces of crap, well, let's just say that there will probably be even more sections added to the ones we already have telling the Fed to butt out.
  • Clear?
"History is clear what happens to people when their "leaders" are above the law."

    Sometimes they get quite irate.

You can ask Nicolae Ceauºescu how that worked out for him.
  • OBAMAS MARKETING EXPERENCE
Are you kidding!! Just look at the sales pitch he blew up your butts to get elected. The man's a f**kin' genuis and a god(I know cause the MSM tells me so).If he can get only 20% of his voters to buy a car from chrysler then they'll be solvent in no time.So come on all you Obamacans,be the first on your block to buy a NEW DODGE OBAMAMOBILE,blessed by the"HOLY ONE" himself. re:mailman forget it,you can't impeach god himself
  • Ave Obama
Dear Leader dictates the operations of another company in his growing empire.

GM, like the other corporations now wholly or partly owned by the government, is now aware of the fact that their bailout came with another price tag—the government gets to run your operations as it sees fit.

Hugo Chavez is doing the same thing in Venezuela.

This has got to be the tenth time Obama has made a power grab and violated the Constitution. If Bush had done this, the Left would have had aneurisms.

Our money is being flushed down a socialist toilet creating a huge deficit, and then he demands tax increases to fix the disaster he created.

    Welcome to ‘change’.
  • A very simple solution
You can reduce Chrysler's advertising budget to ZERO and achieve PERFECT sales. We're talking MILLIONS in savings and Chrysler, I mean the UAW, sell every car they can push out the door.

Obama simply mandates every car buyer to purchase only Chrysler products.

    Problem solved.

    Next!
  • Lord Obama
Has he yet passed a point at which he has now overextended his legal authority that we could impeach him?Of course that won't happen with the make up in the Congress at this time.If there is any country left in 2010 we need to "change" that make up.
  • Obama the problem employee
No wonder he is doing a lousy job of running the Country, he is too busy sticking his nose into private businesses.
Hey, somebody read BO his job description again!
  • Chrysler New Marketing Plan
Maybe Obama is slashing their marketing budget so he and his family can star in the new commercials for the resurected Chrysler Cordova.

I would love to see him talk about, in a Ricardo Montalban's tone and accent, how you "will enjoy the luxurious corinthian leather". Of course, he would have to use the teleprompters, just too much to remember.
  • hahah
So, Neal is mad that Obama is only giving them half the money they wanted? Crazy republicans that are used to crazy zpending habits
  • Just plain scary
It's just plain scary when there are people in the country that are above the law. No one cares that we are setting a very dangerous precedent. History is clear what happens to people when their "leaders" are above the law.
  • Obama lording over Chrysler
This from the man who said he didn't want to run Chrysler, GM or any other business. When I read this to my spouse last night, he fell out of his chair. Where is the end????? Four years will be TOO LATE!
  • Obama Law
Our Congress and Supreme Court are failing in their responsibilities and are allowing free reign (Yes, I meant to spell it that way) by Mr. Obama. As we now stand your statement can properly end with "It's the rule of Obama Law."

What will be left of our Republic after four years?
  • Re: NOLAnative @ 05/13/09 08:47:32 AM , Atlas Shrugged:
Yeah, This passage seems strangely appropriate:

"Then you will see the rise of the men of the double standard--the men who live by force, yet count on those who live by trade to create the value of their looted money--the men who are the hitchhikers of virtue. In a moral society, these are the criminals, and the statutes are written to protect you against them.

But when a society establishes criminals-by-right and looters-by-law--men who use force to seize the wealth of disarmed victims--then money becomes its creators' avenger.
Such looters believe it safe to rob defenseless men, once they've passed a law to disarm them.

Excerpt from Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
  • What's the under/over?
What's the under/over on how many years until the UAW own 100% of Chrysler?
  • I would like to know at what point do people consider the Fauxbamo administration to be Fascist.

  • Wrong title
You're using the wrong title of Barack Obama... we elected him President of the United States and now he's President of Chrysler as well. It is no longer POTUS but POC...

Go ahead Copy... tell me how I'm wrong... that the President should be worrying about managing a company and not the U.S.
  • Barack Obama is NOT a Fascist!
    Riiiiiiigghhht
  • Chrysler Budget
    All Hail, Obummer
  • Atlas Shrugged
I'm about a third of the way through "Atlas Shrugged." It is starting to creep me out seeing parts of it come true.
  • Obama and Chrysler
Maybe Obama can star in the commericals (ala Lee Iaccoa) and tell the dumb masses that the UAW members need them to go out and buy a car, so buy a Chrysler and Obama will stand behind it (I'd prefer in front of it) 110%.

I am not currently in the market to buy a car, but my next one will not be purchased from any car company that takes taxpayer money (mine and yours) in order to continue in business. Heck, that would be like paying for it twick. If the business cannot survive without taxpayer money, it should not survive.
