THE CENSUS

I know that a lot of callers have said that census workers have begun to knock on doors. The latest story about the census comes from Kansas where a woman says a census worker asked her some questions beyond the typical "how many people live in your household."

Kim Mertin says that the census workers asked her if she'd like a backrub and it she "was wearing pink undies." Who knows ... maybe these are the kinds of details the new administration is looking for. Either way, Mertin closed the door and called the police.

My first gut reaction to this story was that this census worker was clearly a fake, an imposter. But Mertin got ahold of the Census Bureau and it turns out that the man is really employed as a Census worker.

I suppose that is what you get when you team up with organizations like ACORN to hire your Census workers.

  • LOL@Big G
Oh well! What was I thinking? Heck I was wondering if I even spelled it right.
  • @Joyce
Joyce, Joyce, Joyce... When communicating with an Obama Kool-Aid drinker please don't use big words like EXTRAPOLATE it just sends them into a tailspin.
  • Jamal
I don't know about the crack, but you definitely drink the Kool-Aid!

Now I'm not assuming anything, just asking a question; do you have a job? And if so, do you pay taxes or get more back than you pay in?

Give President Obama a chance? You need to look at the 68 and growing comments on his bailout of Chrysler. He is deliberately destroying this country.

One more question; are you a communist? Really, do you believe everyone should get paid the same? Do you think the government should tell us what job we will have? Because if we give President Obama his chance this is where we will be.
  • jamal
The perfect example of what we are up against. Simply delusional. So sad that sheep vote.
  • Jamal
I tried when he first took office. Really I did. But you can take the steps he's taken already and extrapolate the results. And I don't like where we are going. Don't have to wait to see that. The government is NOT supposed to look out for us. We are supposed to do that.

I have a better idea, how about the President supporting us, since he does work for us.
  • J Cooper/Joyce
I don't do drugs. You must be awhite guy becasue you immediately assume that I do crack because I am a black Man.

My point is that we need to give the pesident a chance. He will bring us the change that we need and that we can truely belive in. So please stop the hate and start supporting our president. Finally government will help look out of us all the way it is supposed to. Yes we CAN!
  • Census
Had one come to my house. All she did was give me a paper explaining the 2010 census. Didn't ask any questions. Wonder if there are any white census workers? Anyway if the white house is on control. They can use fuzzzy math with the results.
  • Jamal @ 05/04/09 11:54:58 AM
Hey Jamal, put the crack pipe down man.
  • Jamal
You are joking right? Is that Liberal Hater playing with us????
  • Census nonsense
We had a "Census worker" (probably one of the 150k jobs BHO created) show up at our house after 8pm on a dark Sunday night. She was lucky she did not end up a statistic in the process. The had an ID, but it did not have a picture on it. She wanted a GPS reading "within 10 feet of our back door".

I emailed the regional census office. They said the GPS readings were legitimate, but offered no response as to the odd hours visit.
  • Quite being such a hater, neal.
Neal, you are such a hater. You and the Bush republicans are always against all that is good that is proposed by our President Obama and his government. This census is a good thing in that it will count all the folks that have been ignored by Bush and his haters for so long. I thank good ness that Obama came to rescue us from the perils of the past.

Obama is the MAN! Get behind him because he will save us all and make this country better for all of us. Gas won't be free, but it will be cheap and plentiful and healthcare and jobs will be provided for all of us- of all colors, etc...
  • Community Survey
Hey Everyone. I received a Community Survey of some sort the other day in the mail with all the language about it being required by law that I fill it out. I guess this isn't the full census, but more like a sampling of people (it said my address was chosen at random). Does anyone know a website or publication that explains my rights in regards to the census? Surely the articles or whatever that they reference as being the legal justification for asking so many questions don't specifically address every issue they ask about!! Any thoughts would be helpful. THanks,
    Rhurc
  • Census takers
I don't know about your neighborhood, but the local burglars have been using the Census ploy to case out houses here around PDK.

A non emergency follow up call to Law Enforcement is not a bad idea.
  • census
I too refused to fill out the census questions. When is it the government's business when I leave my house in the morning, how long does it take to get to work, how many hours a day I work, how much money I make ect. It sounds to me like they are going to steal from me and just want to know when I won't be at home...UGH! Maybe that IS the government's plan afterall.
  • CENSUS
A couple of weeks ago two Census workers came to the door. They had ID (fake, perhaps, I don't know). Said they wanted to know if the house was a "Single Family Dwelling."

I laughed at them and told them only to government would send someone around a year before the Census to ask that kind of stupid question.

I also asked them how much this was costing us taxpayers. Of course they didn't know.

Reminded me of the letter the government sent last year to people telling them they were going to receive a check in a few weeks. I read the cost of mailing the letters was $30M.

Why am I not surprised at this stupidity.
  • THE CENSUS
No reason for them to contact the households. Census/Acorn reps will just make up the results just like the made up voters for the fraud in the last election.
  • A feel-good act of rebellion
In the last census, I got the long form with all the none-of-your-business questions. I tossed it, as well the replacement form. When they sent out a case worker, I told her (politely) that I would only tell her how many people lived at this address. Her boss phoned, and I told him the same... He tried to argue that my answers would get money for gov programs for the area... But I countered that those programs were illegal...
That was the last I heard of it... A minor act of rebellion to be sure, but satisfying. ;-)
  • Acorn
If ACORN is in your neighborhood or township and they are canvassing the area (for the census, stumping for a certain candidate or seeking donations), you had better answer your door with some type of protection.

It's an almost statistical certainty that someone will be the victim of these people. Protect yourself and your family and don't answer the door if you feel unsafe.
  • Criminal activity
These encounters are not with legitimate census takers. These are criminals scoping out property to determine if it's an easy egg to crack. They usually carry no real identification and maybe a few fake documents to try and look real if anyone questions them. If you're not home, or if you look to be easy to overpower, they return with their "colleagues" and finish the job.

As for the "pink undies" encounter, question like those make me suspect a local radio show playing a prank.
  • NC had a Census?
I'm not sure if a census was conducted in my neighborhood or not. My son in law answered the door one day and was given a sheet saying that "all answers were confidential". The problem is that no questions were asked, no number of occupants, etc. I was not at home and so have no idea how (if) my household was counted. We are a multiracial family of 6 but that will not be relfected in this census. What gives?
  • census
we had a "census" worker stop at our house about 2 weeks ago. she had no identification on her, which they are required to wear around their neck, and insisted upon coming thru our gate into our house becasue she had to "measure our house". mu husband refuted what she was asking, said no census worker ever has to do that, and that information is public knowledge at the court house. she threatened to come back with "officials" that will force us to let her in. we reported it to the charlotte, nc census office. they agreed that no census required what she wanted to do, and they would follow up on it. good thing we have 5 LARGE dogs and 6' chain link around our 8 acres!!
